阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Shared Mobility: Making Travel Easier for All
In many big cities in Europe and the U.S., it might seem like we’ve achieved cheap and easy mobility for everyone — just use your phone to find shared e-bikes and electric cars. But if you’re elderly, living in a low-income area or without a smartphone or credit card, using these shared services becomes much more difficult. Here is a survey reporting barriers to using bike sharing.
Shared mobility could be a key part of a more sustainable transportation system. But to be most effective, it needs to include everyone. For-profit shared mobility providers have largely failed to deliver on this, but various initiatives and projects are finding creative solutions to reach underserved communities.
By combining economic support, grassroots innovation, and empathetic design, these efforts aim to make mobility available to everyone, reduce reliance on private vehicles, and ensure fair access for all. “You tend to plan for what you know. That’s why it’s so important to bring in different views in the development of mobility,” says Lina Mosshammer, founder and CEO of the Austrian mobility consultancy company POINT &.
21. What percentage of lower-income people express concern over safety in the survey?
A. 24%. B. 27%. C. 42%. D. 88%.
22. Which solution involves the idea of recycling used bikes?
A. Public-Sector Intervention. B. Community-Centric Design.
C. Non-Profit Innovation. D. Technology Adaptation.
23. What does Mosshammer stress to address the challenge?
A. Increasing urban mobility. B. Offering affordable alternatives.
C. Integrating diverse viewpoints. D. Consulting with the users beforehand.

Massimo Bottura, a three-Michelin-Starred chef, has extended his culinary (烹饪的) empire globally. However, he says that the peak of all of his achievements is Milan’s Refettorio Ambrosiano and the following 12 global branches.
At Refettorio Ambrosiano, dinner guests are greeted by name. They dine on fine china at tables created by the country’s most sought-after furniture designers. The waiters are polite, and the chefs have been trained under the finest restaurateurs in the world. The set menu changes every day, depending on what comes in with the morning’s delivery.
This morning’s delivery contains dry arugula (芝麻菜), chicken close to its sell-by date and too-ugly-to-be-sold oranges. By dinner, however, the supermarket castoffs have been transformed into a three-course meal. The 100 or so diners — refugees, the homeless, and the unemployed — enjoy the meal with obvious pleasure, laughing with the volunteer waiters, praising the volunteer chefs, and forgetting, at least for an hour, the challenges of a life lived on the streets.
The brightest gems in Bottura’s culinary empire are not restaurants at all. He thinks of them as spaces that shine a light on the dignity of their guests while focusing attention on the food-waste problem by turning foods that were otherwise going to be headed toward rubbish bins into Michelin Guide-worthy meals.
Botura first thought of Refettorio Ambrosiano as a pop-up concept for the 2015 World Expo in Milan. The organizers had invited him to cook for the grand opening. Bottura proposed something different. He wanted to invite the world’s best chefs to cook with him for the city’s homeless, using leftovers. That idea soon got supported and turned into something more permanent.
Today, the Refettorio is “a movement,” Bottura says. “It is a model for fighting food waste and isolation on the front lines. And it starts by looking at an old carrot or a piece of hard bread and catching sight of gold.”
24. How do the Refettorio Ambrosianos differ from Bottura’s other restaurants?
A. The waiters are well-trained.
B. The tables are custom-made.
C. They are three-Michelin-starred.
D. Daily delivery decides the set menu.
25. Which of the following best describes the event at Refettorio Ambrosiano?
A. An evening gathering for local chefs.
B. A charity sale of supermarket castoffs
C. A wealthy meal for the less-fortunate.
D. A volunteer training for the homeless
26. What does Bottura think of the Refettorio?
A. It’s his best profitable restaurant.
B. It’s a good project for food safety.
C. It’s a pop-up concept to extend his business.
D. It’s win-win for the environment and society.
27. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Less Waste, More Taste. B. A Dinner of Dignity
C. Best Restaurant, Best Service. D. The Power of Food
C
Many concepts that are central to the human experience are abstract, such as relationships, ideas, and time — things we can’t directly see or touch. We commonly use concrete language to talk and think about these things, often through metaphors.
Using metaphors is far more than a poetic device of factual statements. A study conducted at Purchase College found that metaphors can frame people’s perspectives, thus shaping their reasoning and subsequent actions. For example, describing the effort to stop climate change as a “war” rather than a “race” caused people to feel more urgency about reducing emissions.
Another example is the lightbulb metaphor commonly used to describe new ideas, suggesting that new thoughts appear suddenly like a light switch being turned on. However, this metaphor implies that new ideas come effortlessly and are accessible only to a select few geniuses, such as Isaac Newton, who supposedly developed his theory of gravity from a sudden insight about a falling apple. It may lead people to question their capability to generate new ideas, and as a behavioral consequence, people may underestimate the role of hard work and continuous learning in bringing about change.
An alternative way to describe ideas is by comparing new thoughts to seeds that fall on fertile ground and if cared for, will grow and develop over time. Different from the lightbulb metaphor, the seed metaphor implies an understanding that generating new ideas is a laborious process, which requires time and effort. It also suggests that anybody can be the cultivator of ideas as long as they put their mind to it.
The subtle effects of metaphors show how powerful language can be, even though we often don’t realize it. Who’d have thought a simple use of a lightbulb metaphor could profoundly affect how we understand the concept of innovation? Given the nature of our metaphorical minds, it is worth asking: are our metaphors suitable? We owe it to ourselves and others to use metaphors appropriately. These choices, conscious or not, can be constructive or destructive.
28. What does the study find about metaphors?
A. They help clarify abstract concepts.
B. They may cause some misunderstanding.
C. They make language more poetic and vivid.
D. They can influence people’s minds and behavior.
29. Why is the example of “lightbulb metaphor” quoted in paragraph 3?
A. To raise some doubt about metaphors. B. To highlight improper use of metaphors.
C. To illustrate poetic functions of metaphors. D. To demonstrate the influence of metaphors.
30. How does the “seed metaphor” differ from the “lightbulb metaphor”?
A. It suggests consistent efforts of individuals.
B. It attaches great significance to natural talent.
C. It arouses people’s awareness of their creativity.
D. It simplifies the process of generating new ideas.
31. What does the author suggest about the use of metaphors?
A. Making them more poetic and vivid.
B. Applying them with caution and appropriateness.
C. Using them to change people’s negative behavior.
D. Avoiding metaphors that involve abstract concepts.

By 2050, the United Nations says, we’re going to need 70 percent more food to feed the nine billion people living on Earth. Sara Menker says the problem may be even more urgent than the U.N. suggests. In 2017, she gave a TED talk in which she said a “tipping point,” beyond which global food markets become too overloaded to function effectively, could come in just a few years.
“We discovered that the world will be short 214×1012 calories by 2027,” she said. Or, in more familiar terms: “A single Big Mac has 563 calories. That means the world will be short 380 billion Big Macs in 2027. That is more Big Macs than McDonald’s has ever produced.”
Menker cannot change the world alone. But the firm she started, Gro Intelligence, is providing information that food companies, insurers, lenders and policymakers use to make food production more effective, and perhaps help protect against that tipping point.
Gro tracks 650×1012 data points daily—from sources such as government and local food reports, satellite photos, long-term weather forecasts and greenhouse gas measurements—and creates computer models so that food companies, such as Unilever and Yum! Brands, can know how prices are likely to trend, calculate surpluses (过剩) and shortages, and be more flexible when climate change makes food supplies harder to predict.
A type of artificial intelligence known as machine learning is key to dealing with the data because, as Allison Tepley of Gro’s staff put it, “The best information is often local information, but it’s often in local languages, in different forms and it all needs to be put together.”
Gro has sounded warnings on African swine fever in China (which cut pork production 30 percent in 2018), locust infestation in East Africa in 2020 and global inflation (通货膨胀) in food prices.
32. What is the problem mentioned by Menker?
A. Food shortage. B. Overloaded markets.
C. Overpopulation. D. Wrong prediction by the U.N.
33. What does Menker mean by her words in paragraph 2?
A. The problem is serious. B. Her discovery is more accurate.
C. Big Macs contain too many calories. D. McDonald’s should increase productivity.
34. What does Gro do to help food companies?
A. Get resources. B. Monitor greenhouse gases.
C. Analyse big data. D. Assess surpluses and shortages.
35. What might the underlined words “locust infestation” be in the last paragraph?
A. A data-driven drug. B. A food-related disaster.
C. A language-based approach. D. A production-centered policy.

Want a relaxing but fun challenge at home? 36 Puzzles have been around for more than 250 years and the challenge of working out where each piece goes and carefully recreating the scene on the box lid can keep you busy for hours, days or even weeks.
Puzzles come in a huge range of sizes and difficulty levels. For beginners, a 100-piece puzzle is usually a good starting point. 37 Try grouping pieces with the same colours or design because they will probably go in the same area once the puzzle takes shape.
38 Those pieces are easier to find because they have a straight side. Stay patient as you search through and try to make it fit together. You may not find any connecting pieces for ages but then several may suddenly appear.
For a real test, puzzles that have 1,000 pieces or more are a tough task and it’s best to complete them with friends or family if you can. Choosing a scene that interests you, such as a favourite film, sport or location, can help keep you interested and determined to work to the final piece. You can get fun educational puzzles, too. 39
Some of the best places to pick up puzzles are charity shops. They’re often on sale for less than €5. Once you have completed a puzzle it’s nice to exchange it with a friend. 40 You just upload an image, such as a family scene, and they will make a puzzle from it and post it to you. It makes lovely and unusual present.
A. So others can have a go.
B. You can’t beat a good puzzle.
C. Some companies make personalised puzzles.
D. However, a good start doesn’t always lead to a good result.
E. Most people like to start by getting the four edges of a puzzle laid out.
F. It can get you used to sorting out how the shapes, patterns and colours go together.
G. For example, you may try a map of the world, historical timelines or the periodic table.

Lu frequently finds its way in Chinese dishes. It 56 (original) meant salted water used for meat that’s boiled, and then served cold, and for vegetables.
“Salt is the core 57 Lu, even more important than spices. Spices can add a pleasant smell or remove some smells, 58 it is the salt that is crucial to the flavor,” says Cao Yu, a food writer at Jinan University.
The earliest 59 (preserve) recipes for making Lu date back to Qimin Yaoshu, an ancient Chinese agricultural text written in the 5th century.
Cao believes the Lu we know today emerged around the Ming dynasty, 60 private agricultural businesses and food markets sprang up in China. 61 (attract) customers, these businesses began introducing new flavors to Lu by adding spices. And they then used it to season cooked meats and vegetables that 62 (sell) cold for takeaway.

Ballet was a way of life in Kelly’s family. Her elder sister Serena was now dancing at a top college. Though Kelly’s mom always wanted her to follow in her sister’s footsteps and Kelly herself was good at ballet, her love for ballet had faded years before, and she was eager for a new challenge.
One day at school, as Kelly left the dance studio, she walked past the gym, fascinated by boxers (拳击手) training inside the boxing ring. She was deeply impressed by how hard they hit and how fast they moved. In fact, she’d long been attracted to boxing.
She pulled a piece of paper from her backpack. On the familiar Oakwood High School Club Sign-up Sheet was the phrase: BOXING CLUB TRYOUT. That was what Kelly really wanted to do. She knew her mom had high expectations for her when it came to ballet. Tired of trying to keep up with her sister, Kelly was ready to carve her own path.
The next day, she gathered her courage and told Serena about her new passion. At first, Serena didn’t understand and thought she was just joking. But when she saw Kelly was serious, she replied, “You know Mom wants you to be a ballet dancer, right? Besides, boxing is only for boys, and you’re so good at ballet. Lean into your strength, Kelly.”
“But this is where I want to put my strength,” Kelly insisted, “and what exactly does ‘only for boys’ mean, anyway? Boxing is a sport for everyone!”
Gradually, touched by her determination and passion, Serena began to understand and support her. Kelly could feel it. Her sister was going to respect her decision, no matter what. But that was nothing compared to the preparations for the tryout, where she was required to show her footwork and punching (击打) abilities with other candidates. Boxing didn’t come natural to Kelly, but she had made up her mind to stick with her choice.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
