“Coo-COO-coo! Coo-COO-coo!”
For students in the graduating class, spring remains a busy and stressful time as they prepare for the zhongkao and gaokao. But outside the window, it is also the busiest season of the year for birds. While you follow your teacher and read the passages in your textbook, your feathered friends are singing, dancing and running after one another, hoping to attract a mate.
From the soft twitter that fills the spring valley under Wang Wei’s pen to the “wandering voice” that brings joy in William Wordsworth’s poem “To the Cuckoo,” birdsong has inspired poets for centuries.
But not everyone sees birds as lovely messengers of nature. One high school student in Shenzhen recently complained about the Asian koels on campus. The birds’ loud calls—“Ko-EL!”—had seriously disturbed (干扰) his studies, so he asked the principal (校长) to drive them away.
I can understand how annoyed (心烦的) the student felt. Living close to several parks, I often see light-vented bulbuls, spotted doves and oriental magpie-robins in my neighborhood. These birds are all excellent singers. In springtime, their loud mating songs often wake me up as early as 4 a.m.! But should we try to remove these birds from our lives just because of their unplanned disturbance?
The principal of the Shenzhen high school said no. While we call our schools—and our cities—our homes, they aren’t only ours. Countless birds, insects and other creatures live here, too. As our neighbors, they should have the same right to follow their natural instincts(天性). We shouldn’t always try to shape our world to fit our needs. Rather, as the principal put it, we should learn to “live with it.”
In fact, a little “disturbance” can even be helpful. Much like you, I learned English by listening to CDs recorded in quiet studios(录音棚). Then, the first time I spoke with a native speaker in real life—in a restaurant with music playing, people chatting and all kinds of background noise—I could hardly focus on his words. My guest laughed and said, “You can’t always learn with these perfect recordings!”
As I wrote this article, a male spotted dove was cooing and bowing to a female beside him. When I turned to look at them, they quickly flew away. Were they just too shy to find their love story on this front page?
29. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. Birds have inspired many poets.
B. Not all people think birds are lovely.
C. Birds are much more active in spring.
D. Most poets like cuckoos best of all birds.
30. What kind of bird made loud disturbing sounds on the Shenzhen campus?
A. Cuckoos. B. Asian koels. C. Spotted doves. D. Oriental magpie-robins.
31. Why did the author mention being woken up by birds at 4 a.m.?
A. To show he sleeps very lightly in spring.
B. To complain about the noisy birds nearby.
C. To prove the city environment is getting better.
D. To show he can truly understand the student’s feeling.
32. Which of the following is most likely the principal’s reply to the student’s complaint?
A. “The campus should be very quiet.”
B. “You should learn more about birds.”
C. “Humans should share space with birds.”
D. “You should work harder to prepare for the gaokao.”
33. What does the author want to tell us with his restaurant experience?
A. Noise always brings trouble to people’s lives.
B. Students had better not listen to recorded English.
C. There is a difference between classroom and real life.
D. A totally quiet learning environment is not always good.

From a young age, we are taught not to lie. But do people sometimes lie when it is to their advantage? If they do lie, how often do they do so? What kind of lies do people usually tell? These are the questions that interest researchers.
To study lying behavior without influencing the behavior of a liar, researchers have developed some creative experiments. One is the die-under-the-cup experiment. Each participant (参与者) sits alone in a closed room. In front of the participant is a cup with a small hole and a die. Each participant is asked to cover the die with the cup, shake the die, peek through the hole, and report the number on the die. They are told that the higher the number they report, the more they get paid, which means if they report 2, they will receive $2, and 6 for $6. In this experiment, it is worthwhile for them to report a high number to receive more money. They know only they can see the true result.
When people roll a die, the chance of rolling any number from 1 to 6 is the same—exactly 1/6 (about 16.67%). So, if a large number of participants roll a die and report the number they really see, then about 1/6 would report 1, 1/6 would report 2, and the like. However, if participants lie and report higher numbers to get more money, the percentage of participants reporting 1 or 2 would be lower than 1/6.
Here is what the researchers found. Participants were more likely to report more high numbers (4, 5, 6) and fewer low numbers. However, instead of always reporting the highest number, participants usually reported slightly (稍微) higher numbers than what they rolled.
Why do people lie only a little? Some studies note it is important for people to think of themselves as honest people, so they balance the wish to benefit from the lie with the wish to keep a positive self-image (自我形象). Also, the wish to keep a positive social image is another reason. The fear of being seen as a liar often reduces the possibility to lie.
How is it possible to use these findings to reduce dishonesty? In a study in the UK, aimed at stopping people from stealing bicycles, researchers placed signs near the bicycle-parking area with a photograph of eyes and the words “we are watching you.” After that, fewer bicycles were stolen in those areas. The image and words increased people’s social image concerns (担忧). That means the findings are useful in reducing dishonesty to some degree. Future experiments should test how these findings might help people be more honest in different real-life situations.
34. What are participants asked to do in the experiment?
A. Guess the die number without looking.
B. Show the real die number to the public.
C. Compare die numbers with other participants.
D. Shake the die and report the number they see alone.
35. Which of the following can best show the result of the die-under-the-cup experiment?
A. B.
C. D.
36. Why do people only tell small lies in the experiment?
A. They are afraid of losing money.
B. They want to keep a good self-image.
C. They know others will know the truth.
D. They cannot remember the real number.
37. What can we learn from the UK study?
A. Eye pictures can remind people to behave honestly.
B. Bike stealing is mainly caused by social pressure.
C. Clear rules can stop people from telling small lies.
D. People care little about their social image in public.
38. How does the writer develop the passage?
A. By listing problems and having discussions.
B. By presenting a fact and telling personal stories.
C. By raising questions and showing related research.
D. By comparing different opinions on a common habit.

What if nature’s most hated blood-sucker were actually a high-tech gift? It sounds impossible, but it is happening right now in a lab. Scientists have found that the long, needle-like mouth (针状嘴) of a mosquito, called the proboscis, is a perfect tool. Usually, mosquitoes use this tiny straw to suck blood. However, new research shows that it can also serve as a great nozzle (喷嘴) for 3D printing.
Engineer Changhong Cao and his team at McGill University are leading this study. They call it “3D necro printing.” This term comes from necrobotics, which means using real animal parts in machines. To find the best printer tip, the team searched through nature’s “toolbox”. They checked out insect tails, sharp teeth, and small pointed parts. In the end, they chose the female mosquito. Its mouth is not only very tough (坚硬的) but also quite thin. In fact, it is only half the width of a fine human hair! To make it work, the team designed a special printer around the mosquito’s mouth. They also coated the part with resin (树脂) to stop it from moving during the process.
These natural tips have many advantages over the ones humans build. Most 3D printing nozzles on the market are expensive and very hard to make at such a tiny size. But by “borrowing” from a mosquito, Cao’s team printed lines that are much thinner than those made with the best factory tools. This clever trick lowers the cost while reaching very small sizes that were once impossible to hit. It shows that sometimes, nature is a better inventor than we are.
So far, this “mosquito printer” has created different shapes like honeycombs and maple leaves using a special bioink (生物墨水). In the future, the team hopes to use the mosquito’s mouth in medicine as a tiny needle to give medicine to bodies. As the researchers explore these new tools, they are excited to see what else nature can offer.
39. What surprising thing have scientists found about the mosquito’s mouth?
A. It is thicker than a human hair.
B. It can be used to suck blood in a lab.
C. It can work as a part of a 3D printing machine.
D. It is a high-tech gift that scientists gave to nature.
40. What does the underlined phrase “nature’s toolbox” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Body parts of animals in nature. B. Real wooden boxes in the wild.
C. The shapes made by the 3D printer. D. Small medical tools from nature.
41. Why did the team choose the female mosquito’s mouth as the printer tip?
A. Because it naturally produces resin.
B. Because it is easy to find and cheap.
C. Because it is both strong and very thin.
D. Because it is the hardest object in nature.
42. What is one possible future use of the mosquito’s mouth according to the passage?
A. To put medicine into the human body.
B. To create honeycombs and maple leaves.
C. To make a medicine that kills mosquitoes.
D. To replace all 3D printing nozzles in factories.
43. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Hidden Danger of Mosquitoes
B. The Future of 3D Printing Technology
C. A New High-tech 3D Printing Machine
D. Mosquitoes Help Improve 3D Printing
三、短文还原(共5空,每空2分,计10分)
阅读短文,从短文下面的六个句子中选择五个还原到短文中,使短文通顺完整、衔接自然。
Plastic is one of the most useful materials in the world. It provides many benefits to our lives because it is cheap and convenient. For example, two or three hundred years ago, clothes were quite expensive, so many people only had one or two sets of clothes to wear. Now, with plastics like nylon and polyester, clothes have become much cheaper. ____44____. For example, things like piano keys, which were once made from ivory, are now usually made from plastic. This saved the lives of many elephants.
____45____. Some plastic is so strong that it takes more than 400 years to break down before returning safely to the environment. When plastic is put in a landfill, the harmful materials inside can get into the soil and water underground. When plastic rubbish is burnt, it fills the air with harmful gas. ____46____. Rain washes that rubbish into the rivers. From there, it is swept out to the sea. Sea animals can get caught in it or hurt by it. Worse yet, sometimes fish eat the plastic as food, and it gets into their bodies. When the fish get to our dining table, the plastic would get into humans’ bodies and harm our health.
What can we do about this problem? ____47____. For example, bring your own reusable bag when shopping. Buy products, such as clothing and toothbrushes, made of natural materials. Avoid buying products with plastic packaging. Say no to single-use plastic items—plastic spoons and forks, plastic food containers and straws, etc.
While plastic is convenient and useful, in the end, most of it will last longer on our planet than we will. ____48____.
A. The best solution, for now, is to use less plastic
B. Plastic waste has become a serious hidden danger in our daily lives
C. Another problem is that plastic rubbish is often thrown on the ground
D. Plastic can also be used to replace other things that are rare or valuable
E. However, while plastic has many benefits, it also causes lots of problems
F. Let us not leave this problem to our future generations when we can deal with it now

There is a famous saying: failure is the mother of success. But life isn’t always that simple. What if failure is followed by more failure, and success ____49____ appears?
It was the 2004 Olympic Games. Twenty-three-year-old Matthew Emmons had one gold medal already. He raised his gun. With nine perfect shots in hand, he could win another gold medal with his eyes closed. Bang! Oh no! He missed and shot someone else’s target! He ended the Olympic Games without a ____50____ medal around his neck.
But Emmons refused to give up. He allowed ____51____ to be sad for just one night. Then he went back to training hard. He aimed once more at being an Olympic champion.
However, over the years, bad luck stuck to him like glue. ____52____ repeated itself at the Beijing Olympics. He missed another shot and lost out on the gold medal. And life handed him more ____53____. He was told that he had cancer. He got through the disease, ____54____ he never made it as an Olympic champion again in his sporting life.
Some might consider Emmons one of the ____55____ athletes in history. But Emmons wouldn’t agree. He always looks at life on the bright side. For him, those failures have made his life rich. On that night in 2004, after missing the shot, he went out with some friends. That’s ____56____ he met his future wife. And while he was unlucky to have cancer, he took it as a chance to spend time with his family. He didn’t win all the medals, but he is a ____57____ at what really counts-life!
It’s important to learn lessons from failures. And it is equally important to accept them. When you’ve tried your best, just smile and enjoy the journey. Failure does not always bring success, but it can always help you grow. Remember that “success” and “win” don’t mean the same thing. Success is ____58____ so much more than that.

五、阅读表达(共5小题,计10分)
阅读短文,根据题目要求完成各小题。
Imagine you’re focusing on the screen, controller in hand. Your mom walks in. What might she say? But wait—what if you’re not sitting? You’re jumping up and down and punching (打拳) the air! You are not gaming—you’re actually exergaming!
So, what exactly is exergaming? It refers to video games that require physical movements. Exergames use motion-sensing (运动传感) technology cameras, or special equipment to translate your real-world body movements into in-game actions. Exergaming can take place anywhere, such as in the gym, at school or even at home.
According to the research from the University of Georgia, people who don’t want to hit the gym benefit from exergaming the most. The study shows that exergamers feel high levels of enjoyment and a sense of control over their exercise. “When you can choose what game to play and how hard to push yourself, you’re more likely to exercise on your own,” says Sami Yli-Piipari, the co-researcher of the study. “You feel like you are doing it for yourself, not because someone tells you to.”
Traditional exercise, like weightlifting or running, is great for building strength, but it doesn’t attract everyone. Exergaming feels more like playing than exercising. That desire to play might help people take up physical activities without the pressure or boredom that sometimes comes with heading to the gym.
Another study followed 55 people who exercised less than 150 minutes a week. They were asked to have either exergames or traditional gym workouts. The results showed that the gym group worked harder. “That makes sense because you probably will push yourself harder if somebody is looking over your shoulder,” says Yli-Piipari. But the exergamers had a better time. The good feeling and a sense of ownership over their physical exercise make exergamers more likely to stick to it. And possibly, they will be more open to other physical activities in the future.
“Sometimes it’s hard for the inactive people to take the first step,” according to Yli-Piipari, “Exergaming might be a chance for them.”

【原文】Hello everyone, I’m Lucy. Glad to be on Voice of the School. I have been a TV reporter for seventeen years. Some of you want to be reporters. Today I’d like to share something about it.
I’ve always been interested in news. I like to write, read and tell people’s stories. That’s why I became a reporter. People always wonder how we find stories. Actually we don’t look for news. It comes to us. When people know we are reporters, they will call us if something unusual happens. So we should meet as many people as possible. And we need to keep an eye on things that are important, because they might make good stories.
My advice to be a reporter is that we have to learn to write quickly. Every reporter wants to be the first to report stories, so we have to work very fast. We also need to do a lot of research to discover the truth. We have to make sure the story is true.
Boys and girls, you can be anything you want to be if you try your best. Go for it. Thanks for listening.

【答案】29. A 30. B 31. D 32. C 33. D

【答案】34. D 35. B 36. B 37. A 38. C
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,讲述了研究人员通过实验探究人们在何种情况下会说谎、说谎的程度,以及如何利用相关发现减少不诚实行为。
【34题详解】
根据第2段中:Each participant is asked to cover the die with the cup, shake the die, peek through the hole, and report the number on the die. 可知,参与者被要求独自待在房间,摇晃骰子后从杯口小孔偷看,然后上报自己看到的数字,只有D选项符合要求。
【35题详解】
第4段第2句“Participants were more likely to report more high numbers (4,5,6) and fewer low numbers. However, instead of always reporting the highest number, participants usually reported slightly higher numbers than what they rolled.”可知,参与者倾向于报告偏高的数字(4、5、6),低数字(1、2、3)报告率低于理论值,且不会总是报告最高的数字6,因此选项B符合该分布特征的柱状图。
【36题详解】
第5段指出“Some studies note it is important for people to think of themselves as honest people, so they balance the wish to benefit from the lie with the wish to keep a positive self-image (自我形象). Also, the wish to keep a positive social image is another reason. ”可知人们只说小谎的核心原因是,他们想要维持自己诚实的正面自我形象,同时也在意正面社会形象,对应B选项。
【37题详解】
第6段提出“researchers placed signs near the bicycle-parking area with a photograph of eyes and the words ‘we are watching you.’ After that, fewer bicycles were stolen in those areas.”
D
【答案】39. C 40. A 41. C 42. A 43. D

F. Let us not leave this problem to our future generations when we can deal with it now
【答案】44. D 45. E 46. C 47. A 48. F

空后“Rain washes that rubbish into the rivers. From there, it is swept out to the sea. ”提到“雨水将那些垃圾冲入河流”,暗示垃圾位于地面上。C选项“另一个问题是塑料垃圾经常被扔在地上”与后文雨水冲刷垃圾的场景紧密衔接。
【47题详解】
空前“What can we do about this problem?”提出问题“我们能做些什么来解决这个问题?”,空后“For example, bring your own reusable bag when shopping. Buy products, such as clothing and toothbrushes, made of natural materials. Avoid buying products with plastic packaging.”

例文
AI and My Life
AI is changing our lives, bringing great convenience and new challenges at the same time. In my daily life, AI helps me a lot. With learning apps, I can practice spoken English and check homework efficiently, which saves much time. When I feel tired, AI music and translation tools also bring me fun.
However, it also causes problems. Once I spent too much time on AI chat tools and neglected my revision, leading to a worse exam result. Besides, over-reliance on AI may make me lazy to think independently.
