Is AI Beneficial to Our Learning?
Nowadays, AI-assisted learning has become a hot topic among students. As far as I’m concerned, AI is beneficial to our learning if we use it properly.
AI brings many advantages to our study. It can provide personalized learning plans according to our weak points, helping us improve efficiently. For example, when we struggle with English grammar, AI tools offer targeted exercises and instant feedback. Also, it acts as a patient tutor, answering our questions anytime.
In short, AI is a helpful tool for our learning. We should use it reasonably, letting it boost our learning efficiency instead of replacing our own efforts.

(范文)
“How can I persuade Alice to undergo the surgery?” Alice’s mom said to herself. An idea suddenly struck her. She took Alice back to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium the next weekend. There, they saw Betty swimming freely with her prosthetic tail, chasing fish and greeting visitors happily. The staff told Alice how Betty had overcome countless difficulties to learn to swim again. Alice stood still, tears welling up in her eyes. “Betty never gave up,” she whispered to herself. On the way home, Alice remained silent, but her mom could see the spark of hope in her eyes.
Encouraged by Betty, Alice changed her mind and did what her mother and doctor had told her to. She went through the surgery bravely, and the recovery period was tough, but she never complained. Every day, she thought of Betty, reminding herself that courage could help her overcome anything. Months later, Alice walked out of the hospital with a new prosthetic leg. She even visited the aquarium again, waving at Betty with a big smile. At that moment, she realized: being “different” didn’t mean being weak. With determination, she could shine just like Betty.

WALK FOR GREEN
How often do you walk around the campus instead of getting straight onto the shuttle bus? The beauties of our campus deserve to be better explored and can best be explored on foot. Walking is also a greener and healthier alternative to using vehicles. To encourage more students and staff members to walk around the campus, our school has launched a new “Walk for Green” initiative.
Programme
Setting out from the MTR Station, “Walk for Green” recommends various walking routes on campus, one of which covers the YIA Building, LSK Building and LWS Building. Card readers for different walking routes have been installed (安装) to record the number of points completed by “Walk for Green” participants. Participants who collect 60 points within 30 days will be awarded the title “Green Walker”.
Participation
To participate, students and staff members would choose a marked route, and tap their school cards at the card readers installed at both the start and end points(and also at an intermediate card reader). Name, student/staff ID, department/unit, date, time and card readers tapped will be recorded.
Walking Journey Points
Important Notes:
● Walkers must complete one trip (either upwards or downwards) within one hour to score points.
● A total of up to six points can be earned each day.
Every time you take a walk on campus, you are helping to preserve our environment and also keeping yourself healthy. Let’s start from today!
21. Where does “Walk for Green” start?
A. YIA Building. B. LSK Building.
C. MTR Station. D. LWS Building.
22. What are participants required to do to score?
A. Collect at least 6 points. B. Choose a pre-set route.
C. Maintain a fixed speed. D. Complete a round trip.
23. How many points do you get daily by walking from YIA Building to LWS Building?
A. 1. B. 2.
C. 3. D. 6.

Growing up in rural (农村的) communities, I always had a love of the countryside, animals and nature. The books I read as a child often had animals at their heart — The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark, Charlotte’s Web.
Farming, however, was something I experienced later in life, in my teenage years. It’s something I instantly connected with, and I feel fortunate that my children have been able to grow up helping out on the farm and spending lots of time with our livestock and pets.
It’s so important to get a connection with farming at an early stage. We all eat food, so being familiar with where it comes from and what goes into producing it is a natural thing. If a spark of interest can be ignited early, it can only be a good thing going forward. It’s a joy to see the children’s faces light up on school visits when they see the photos of animals on our family farm and watch the video of an egg hatching (孵化). Animals have a unique magic all of their own.
Being around animals also teaches children what they can take with them into adulthood. It builds foundations of responsibility, kindness, as well as perseverance and problem solving. We work together as a family a lot on the farm, which builds a strong work ethic and a sense of teamwork — both fantastic life skills.
I’m a firm believer that you don’t know what you’re going to love until you try it. My hope is that if children from non-rural backgrounds get a taste of what it’s like on a farm, then they might discover something they love.
24. How does the author lead into the topic?
A. By showing his desire to keep animals.
B. By recommending his childhood reads.
C. By sharing his own experience with nature.
D. By comparing his farm life with his children’s.
25. What does the underlined word “ignited” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Kept. B. Expressed.
C. Weakened. D. Awakened.
26. What role does an early contact with farming play in children’s growth?
A. A time killer. B. A social connector.
C. A character builder. D. An emotional comforter.
27. Which statement does the author probably agree with?
A. Well begun is half done. B. Interest starts with practice.
C. What pains us shapes us. D. Actions speak louder than words.
C
It’s easy to keep your aging brain as quick as it was in college. Use a website full of brain games or download the right apps, and within 20 minutes you’ll be doing your part to sharpen your memory and slow the decline of your mental functions. At least that’s what the companies behind this booming industry would have you believe. But is it true?
Concrete proof about the benefits of brain games is hard to come by, experts say, when it comes to measurably improving aspects of mental fitness, like having a good memory. “People would really love to believe they could do something like this and make their brain better, but there’s just no solid evidence,” says Randall W. Engle, a primary investigator at the Attention & Working Memory Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
That’s not to say brain games are without benefits. Experts say these kinds of mental exercises can change your brain. The brain changes with just about everything you do, including mental training exercises. But numerous studies have shown that brain games lack what researchers call “transfer”. In other words, repeating a game over and over again teaches you how to play the game and get better at it but your brain aging won’t necessarily come to a stop.
“It’s like, you walk through fresh snow, and you leave a trace. If you walk the same route again, the trace gets deeper and deeper,” says Ursula Staudinger, director of the Butler Columbia Aging Center at Columbia University. The fact that structural changes occur does not imply that in general this brain has become more capable. It has become more capable of doing exactly the tasks it was practicing.
28. What does the writer intend to do in the first paragraph?
A. To introduce a new theory. B. To promote a new app.
C. To question an idea. D. To correct a mistake.
29. What does Engle think of the functions of brain games?
A. They have little practical effects. B. Their effects still need proving.
C. They really make some difference. D. They are bound to benefit brain health.
30. The underlined word in paragraph 3 most probably refers to “the ability to ________”.
A. improve gaming skills B. keep the brain functioning
C. speed up the brain aging D. stop the brain aging
31. Which can be the best title of the passage?
A. Stop Brain aging? Games’ Roles Need Proving
B. How to Slow the Decline of Brain Functions
C. Games Prevent Brain from Turning Slow
D. Brain Games A Boost to Your Mental Fitness

With its red color, Mars has long been called the red planet. Now, scientists may have discovered the potential source of that red color, overturning a popular theory in the process.
Previous analyses of the substances on Mars, based only on observations by spacecraft, didn’t discover any evidence of water, which led researchers to believe that the iron oxide must be hematite (赤铁矿) which typically forms in a dry environment over billions of years. However, a team led by Valantinas from Brown University analyzed data from Mars missions and suggested ferrihydrite (水铁矿) which forms quickly in cool water may be responsible for the redness rather than hematite.
The new study has combined lab methods with observational data for the first time to offer evidence. The scientists recreated Martian dust in a laboratory. The team analyzed the dust using techniques similar to those employed by orbiters. Then, the scientists compared the lab data with spacecraft data. It is suggested that even the dustiest parts of Mars hold evidence of water-rich substances, and the presence of ferrihydrite is the best match for dust on Mars, rather than hematite, when compared with the lab samples.
The study wasn’t focused on determining when exactly the substance formed. However, since ferrihydrite forms in cool water, it’s possible that it was created about 3 billion years ago, as opposed to when the planet was warmer and wetter millions of years before. “This was a time of volcanic activity on Mars that likely caused ice-melting events, providing conditions favorable for ferrihydrite formation,” Valantinas said. “The timing matches with a period when Mars was changing from its earlier, wetter state to its current desert environment.”
Now researchers are waiting for the samples on Mars to be brought back to earth. “Once we get these samples into the lab, we’ll be able to measure how much ferrihydrite the dust contains, and what this means for our understanding of the history of water,” said Valantinas.
32. What’s the popular theory?
A. Mars is a red planet. B. Hematite accounts for Mars’red color.
C. Water existed on Mars. D. Ferrihydrite was formed without water.
33. How does the experiment in paragraph 3 challenge the previous idea?
A. By observing the activities on Mars.
B. By analyzing dust collected from Mars.
C. By indicating the existence of ferrihydrite.
D. By comparing hematite and ferrihydrite.
34. What makes the formation of ferrihydrite possible on Mars?
A. High pressure. B. The dry environment.
C. The lack of ice. D. Volcanic eruption.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Why Is Mars Red? B. A Red Planet Without Water
C. Volcanoes Shaped Mars’ Surface D. What Is Mars’ True Color?

Life! It’s a lot of fun but it can also be challenging. 36 Life can let us down and can sometimes fail to deliver what we were hoping for. That’s just the way it is . But sometimes the problems that trouble us are the ones that we create in our own minds so maybe it’s time to stop blaming others, bad luck, or whatever, and look to ourselves. Here are a few simple tips to change the way we live for the better.
“My life’s a mess. I just wish I could disappear”; “Why do these things always happen to me?” Thoughts like these help no one. Overdramatising (过分夸大) a situation only makes it worse. Try and put things into perspective a little, take a step back, sleep on it, or ask a friend for help. 37
So your teacher didn’t give you the part in the school play that you really wanted. Well, that’s a shame. 38 Maybe there were other students who were more suited to the role. Similarly, when your football team loses, they don’t lose just to upset you. Things go wrong for a million and one different reasons. It’s not all about you.
No one gets it right all of the time, and that includes you! So don’t expect life to always work out the way you think it should. 39 If you’re not living up to your own expectations, be kind to yourself.
40 And next time life doesn’t go exactly the way you want it to, try and use one or two. It’s time to take control of your life.
A. There’s nothing you can do to change the past.
B. Things are never as bad as they seem.
C. Things don’t always go our way.
D. If others let you down, be kind to them.
E. Open your mind to other possibilities.
F. So keep these tips in mind.
G. But it doesn’t mean your teacher doesn’t like you.

Alice sat in the car while palm trees seemed to speed by the car window. Eight-year-old Alice began to get nervous, the way she always did in new surroundings. She felt a thin shine of sweat above her lip in spite of the car’s cool air. “The aquarium (水族馆) won’t be crowded. I bet, and people are going to notice me. I hate wearing this prosthetic leg (假肢).” She felt tears coming from behind her eyes. “Not being normal is the worst,” she thought to herself.
Entering the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, around a corner of a tank, she noticed an animal that looked unusual. “Is that a dolphin with a prosthetic tail instead of a real tail?” she asked an aquarium staff member. He nodded and replied, “Yes, that’s Betty. She’s a very special dolphin.” “What happened to her?” “This girl dolphin was found off the coast of Florida, caught in a crab trap. The ropes from the trap cut off the blood circulation to her tail. So she lost her tail.” Alice caught her breath. “She’s just like me.” “But she struggled to survive. Now she wears a prosthetic tail to help her swim like a dolphin’s supposed to swim,” the staff member continued. “Every day, Betty shows us anything is possible if we believe.”
Alice felt her heart was touched. She waved at Betty. Looking at Alice, Betty raised her flippers (鳍). She came to her and lifted her head. “She’s swimming right into my arms,” Alice said tearfully. They made eye contact. She seemed to be speaking to Alice: We’re the same.
Back home, all Alice talked about was Betty. For two weeks, she cried and begged her mother to take her back to Clearwater.
Unfortunately, another blow hit Alice. She fell on the hardwood floor at home and broke her other leg. Alice suffered the pain in her leg. After a thorough examination, the doctor explained bad news to them that she would need some surgery on her leg. Years of a living hell (地狱) came back to her.
She started fearing surgery again and refused to go to hospital for treatment.
