The Arctic (北极) and Antarctica are wild places on the earth. Scientists study them to know about the history of the earth and the change of weather. They’re both super cold, but what else do you know about them?

Polar bears live in the Arctic, while penguins live in Antarctica. But you can see seals (海豹) and fish around both places. Are there people around these places? About 4,000,000 people live near the Arctic, but no one lives in Antarctica all year round!
Now here comes a surprise. A few parts of the Arctic and most of Antarctica get nearly no rain, so they are some of the driest places on earth. Antarctica is the world’s largest desert! Yes, a desert with snow and ice!
However, the ice is melting (融化) these years. How can we take care of these great places? Get more information on the internet. Maybe you’ll find your ways to help.

March 21st is World Forest Day. Trees are important — they do a lot for us humans, the environment and the animals. 36
Trees are important to animals. They provide homes for different plants, insects, birds and other animals. Even the sap (汁液) of the trees is useful as food for insects. Cutting down the forests is very bad. 37
Trees play an important role in protecting the environment. They help to keep the air clean and fresh: they take in dirty air and provide us with clean and fresh air. 38 They can also stop the water from washing the soil away.
39 Trees can provide us with many kinds of beautiful flowers and delicious fruits such as apples and oranges. Trees are also very useful in our daily life — we use them to make paper, desks and chairs. Besides, walking in a park with many trees early in the morning makes us feel relaxed and happy.
However, we are hurting our forest friends. We cut down tall trees and clear forests to build houses, roads, bridges and so on, trees can’t grow back quickly. 40 It is time for us to stop hurting trees. We can try to use less paper and join in some tree-planting activities. Everyone can do something small to protect trees and keep our planet green.
A.Trees are also important to us humans.
B.We know that one tree can’t make a forest.
C.If we do so, many animals will lose their homes.
D.As the saying goes, it takes ten years to grow a tree.
E.They help stop the wind from blowing the soil away.
F.And they are our good friends that we should protect.

11.句意:当他准备捡起球时,听到了一只小鸟的叫声,然后发现小鸟就在球旁边。
第一段“...he heard the sound of a small bird and...it next to the ball.”推测此处指Pat听到小鸟叫声后,在球边发现了小鸟,只有found“发现”符合语境;hit“击打”,kept“保持”和flew“飞”均不符合语境。

第一段“...it couldn’t fly.”

The Arctic (北极) and Antarctica are wild places on the earth. Scientists study them to know about the history of the earth and the change of weather. They’re both super cold, but what else do you know about them?
First, the Arctic is in the north, while Antarctica sits in the south. Imagine (想象) a big ball with snow and ice at both ends—that’s what our earth looks like!

Snow and ice are not the only things there. They have beautiful views and some special animals, too. You might think polar bears and penguins live together. No!
