Hi everyone, i'm daring bigs a travel blogger from the U. S. A. I, D, love to share my story with you. So how I decided to become a travel blogging. R, I wanted a job that would give me something to look forward to every day. And I realized I was spending less and less time doing the things I truly enjoyed, like riding and traveling. Well, unlike my usual pix like paris or london, I chose high non in china as my first place to go, and IT was amazing. Now you might be wondering how I support myself. Some bloggers focus on hiking, which requires proper clothing, and get paid for recommending clothes in their posts. I thought about teaching english, but I didn't have much time. During the journey, I have met people living in tough conditions who never give up and is shown me the importance of keeping up through my blog. M: Hi, everyone. I’m Darren Biggs, a travel blogger from the USA. I’d love to share my story with you. So, how I decided to become a travel blogger? I wanted a job that would give me something to look forward to every day. And I realized I was spending less and less time doing the things I truly enjoyed, like writing and travelling. So becoming a blogger and writing about my travels made complete sense. Then how did I pick where to go first? Well, unlike my usual picks like Paris or London, I chose Hainan in China as my first place to go. And it was amazing!
Now you might be wondering how I support myself. Some bloggers focus on hiking, which requires proper clothing, and get paid for recommending clothes in their posts. I thought about teaching English, but I didn’t have much time. Luckily, I landed a deal with a company that was interested in the pictures I took on my travels.
During the journey, I have met people living in tough conditions who never give up, and it’s shown me the importance of keeping up. Through my blogs, I hope I’ve opened people’s eyes to the beauty of our world.

A
Top Three Films for Medical Professionals
This list of films is specifically tailored for doctors and medical students. Whether you're looking for motivation, a reflection of your own experiences, or simply a cinematic journey through the world of medicine, these films are a must-watch.
Patch Adams
This film, whose key advantage is an adaptation from a real story, tells the biography of Hunter "Patch" Adams, a doctor who believes in treating patients with humour and sympathy, highlighting the importance of human connection in medicine. The real Patch Adams was involved in the film's production, and Robin Williams' performance was inspired by Adams' own personality and methods.
Something the Lord Made
This HBO film tells the partnership between Dr. Alfred Blalock and Vivien Thomas, who cooperated to develop pioneering and innovative heart surgery techniques, stressing the often ignored contributions of African American medical professionals like them. Despite its common plot, the film was based on an article in the Washingtonian magazine, and it received widespread praise for its presentation of medical history, making people forget the passage of time.
Wit
A professor of English literature with terminal cancer reflects on her life and treatment, offering a profound exploration of the human condition and the impersonal nature of modern medicine. Emma Thompson won an Emmy for her role as Vivian Bearing, delivering a deeply moving performance.
21. What is a main strength of Patch Adams?
A. It is based on a real experience.
B. It is filled with humorous plots.
C. It is performed by a famous actor.
D. It is focused on human connection.
22. How do people like Something the Lord Made?
A. Well-plotted.
B. Well-presented.
C. Poorly-made.
D. Poorly-timed.
23. What problem of modern medicine does Wit note?
A. Shortage of humanity.
B. Exposure of privacy.
C. Overemphasis on skills.
D. Suspension in treatment.
【答案】21. A 22. B 23. A
21. 细节理解题 根据 Patch Adams 部分中的“this film, whose key advantage is an adaptation from a real story”可知,这部电影的核心优势是改编自真实故事。故选A。
22. 推理判断题 根据 Something the Lord Made 部分中的“it received widespread praise for its presentation of medical history, making people forget the passage of time”可知,这部电影因对医学历史的呈现而广受好评,对应 well-presented(精心呈现的)。故选B。
23.细节理解题 根据 Wit 部分中的“offering a profound exploration of the human condition and the impersonal nature of modern medicine”可知,这部电影揭示了现代医学人文关怀不足的问题,即现代医学缺乏人文关怀(shortage of humanity)。故选A。
B
It started with the cutest little desserts: chocolate acorns with nut-covered caps that appeared in my search for cookies on Pinterest, a site I visit for inspiration and some step-by-step instructions. “They’re incredibly cute and surprisingly simple. Honestly, they’ve become the most photographed dessert at every family gathering I bring them to,” recommended food blogger Anna Kelly, who described herself as a professionally trained chef who runs the website DessertsPro.com.
“Who wouldn’t love these things?” I thought. The recipe said you could make a batch in 45 minutes. I readily bought my favorite Lindt chocolate bars to make them.
It ended at 1:00 a.m., after about five hours of effort—including an emergency run to the grocery store for a missing ingredient. Despite my attempt at adjusting the temperature of the chocolate and fixing the cookies—I cut them, piled them and stuck them together with chocolate—they just could not match the acorns in the photo. Then it dawned on me: Could this recipe have been generated by AI?
I attempted to reach the creators of the site through a “contact us” email as well as through the contact form but got no response by my deadline. I also attempted to contact Kelly through another food blog set up with her name and profile, MuffinIdeas.com. This site uses the same photo and text that talks about Kelly’s memories for her grandmother’s baking, but the biography is slightly different: It says she’s not professionally trained but self-taught by reading countless baking books.
“This site is almost certainly AI,” said Adam Gallagher, a food blogger running Inspired Taste, saying that not only are these fake sites stealing traffic that used to go to real bloggers, AI technology is copying their style to create the computer-generated content.
As for me, though I search online to find just about everything, I find myself coming out of this episode with a new appreciation for my cookbook I used to read. Maybe AI will end up boosting book sales, which wouldn’t be such a bad thing!
24. What made the author try the recipe?
A. Her love for Lindt chocolate.
B. The blogger’s strong request.
C. The success at family gatherings.
D. The appealing look and clear steps.
25. What can we learn about the author’s attempt?
A. It saved her much effort.
B. It turned out disappointing.
C. It took less time than planned.
D. It failed due to poor preparation.
26. What made the author believe the website was AI-generated?
A. The late reply to her message.
B. The attractive dessert pictures.
C. The precise and simple instructions.
D. The contradictory online information.
27. What did the author finally realize from this experience?
A. Online food blogs are mostly unreliable.
B. Traditional resources still have value now.
C. Food bloggers should protect their patents.
D. AI technology brings more harm than good.
【答案】24. D 25. B 26. D 27.B
根据第一段中的“the cutest little desserts ... a site I visit for inspiration and some step-by-step instructions”“They're incredibly cute and surprisingly simple.”可知,图片中诱人的外观和清晰的步骤让作者想要尝试这个食谱。故选D。
25. 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“after about five hours of effort ... they just could not match the acorns in the photo”可知,作者花费大量时间和精力去尝试仍然失败。因此,结果是令人失望的。故选B。
26. 细节理解题。根据第一段中的“Anna Kelly, who described herself as a professionally trained chef who runs the website DessertsPro.com”以及第四段中的“This site uses the same photo and text that talks about Kelly's ... she's not professionally trained but self-taught by reading countless baking books.”可知,关于Anna Kelly的信息在不同网站上相互矛盾:一个说她受过专业训练,另一个却说她是自学成才。这让作者怀疑网站内容是由AI生成的。故选D。
27. 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“I find myself coming out of this episode with a new appreciation for my cookbooks I used to read”可知,作者从这次经历中意识到传统资源(烹饪书)在现在仍然有价值。故选B。
C
As readers of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy know, humans are Earth’s third-cleverest species—after mice and dolphins. But perhaps the novel should have included dolphins’ cousins. Scientists have been studying the complex sounds of whales since they first discovered the songs sung by humpback whales in the 1960s.
In a paper published in Open Mind, a group of researchers with CETI describe a strikingly human-like feature in whale communication. Sperm whales communicate using a series of clicks that researchers call “codas”. These codas, the researchers argue, look a lot like human vowels.
For linguists, vowels have a clear definition. They are defined by the smooth flow of air through a shaking sound-producing passage. And the way we move our tongue and lips creates “formants”. Named F1, F2, F3 and so on, these are spots where sound energy is concentrated at certain higher frequencies. The way these formants relate to one another decides which vowel we hear—for example, “ah” or “ee”.
The whale codas were found to have two patterns which were similar to the F1 and F2 formants of human vowels, though their frequencies were much lower. What’s more, these patterns were separate. This shows that whales meant to make them different from each other, just like human vowels. The researchers named them the a-coda and i-coda vowels, because they sounded like those two human vowels. They also found that whales could make diphthongs—just like the ah-ee sound in English words such as ride and time. Exactly what the whales may be saying remains unknown—although working that out is CETI’s eventual goal. That will require a large body of sounds to study, as well as an equally big number of observations of how the animals interact with each other. But the discovery that whales use such complex ways to communicate will encourage the third smartest species on Earth to figure out how much these ocean neighbors can “talk”.

Nitrogen fertiliser (氮肥) is essential for modern agriculture but carries a heavy environmental price, contributing to water pollution and soil degradation. However, simply reducing its use is not a solution. Crops typically respond to nitrogen shortage by investing more in root growth to search for nutrients, often at the expense of shoot (茎叶) development and grain production. While adaptive in the wild, this root-shoot trade-off limits agricultural productivity.
For decades, the gene behind this trade-off has been unknown. In a new study, researchers from Nanjing Agricultural University, the University of Oxford, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences not only identified the gene responsible, but demonstrated that modifying it in rice can ensure stable shoot growth and yields even when nitrogen levels are low. The breakthrough could ultimately reduce dependence on artificial fertilisers.
In experiments, the team found that a gene in rice called WRINKLED1a has distinct roles in the shoot and root. In the shoot, it switches on NGR5, a key gene that promotes branching. In the roots, WRINKLED1a supports nitrogen uptake, but also prevents the formation of a protein complex that would otherwise limit root growth. Interestingly, WRINKLED1a does not prevent this protein complex in the shoot, showing that its roles are tissue-specific.
From over 3,000 rice varieties, the team identified a naturally stronger version of the gene and used traditional plant breeding (育种) to cross it into varieties carrying a weaker form. Over three field trials in Hainan and Anhui provinces, China, rice plants with this improved version maintained a more stable root-to-shoot balance across different nitrogen conditions, resulting in a 23.7% yield increase under low fertiliser use and a 19.9% increase under high fertiliser use.
Lead author Dr. Shan Li noted that WRINKLED1a helps rice avoid the usual “more roots, less shoot” situation under nitrogen limitation, supporting stable yields with lower nitrogen inputs. “The next step is to investigate whether similar genes in other crops, such as wheat and corn, can be used to achieve the same outcomes,” she added.
32. Which aspect of the root-shoot trade-off does the new study focus on?
A. Its economic cost. B. Its nutritional demand.
C. Its genetic mechanism. D. Its environmental impact.
33. What can we learn about WRINKLED1a?
A. Its function varies in different tissues.
B. Its effect is restricted to the shoot.
C. It promotes protein complex formation.
D. It reduces nitrogen levels in the roots.
34. What might the study help to do according to the text?
A. Contribute to food diversity. B. Facilitate sustainable farming.
C. Justify nitrogen fertiliser use. D. Advance rice breeding methods.
35. What do Dr. Shan Li’s words suggest?
A. The limitation of the research. B. A challenge in applying the findings.
C. The need to test the outcomes. D. A possible direction for further study.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
Mark had a secret: he couldn’t ride a bike. It wasn’t because he never tried. His father taught him one summer when he was seven. He ran alongside him, holding the seat, and shouting “Keep pedalling (踩踏板)!” But Mark’s balance was terrible. He fell into the bushes, and both knees bled. After two weeks of trying, his dad sighed, “Maybe next year.” But that “next year” never came. The childhood shame stayed with him.
Then, he grew up and had a family of his own. He never shared the secret with anyone but his wife, Lena. Most of the time, it didn’t matter. When friends invited him on bike trips, he volunteered to drive and bring snacks. When the kids were old enough to learn to ride, Lena offered to teach them.
But lately, his twelve-year-old daughter Alice and seven-year-old son Bob were planning the first-ever “Family Bike Adventure.” They had picked a campsite (营地) by the lake and mapped a biking route around it. Every night, they’d argue about who would win the family race. Mark smiled through every conversation, but inside, his stomach tightened. In every other way, Mark was a perfect dad. He never missed a school event and could fix everything in the house. Admitting he couldn’t ride? That was hard.
So he made a plan. After the kids went to bed, he slipped out and wheeled a bike to the empty market parking lot to practise. But thirty years after that summer, his body still remembered nothing. The bike seemed to have a mind of its own, and he just couldn’t control it. His legs shook. His hands ached. Sometimes he would crash into the wall.
The next day, Alice, a considerate girl, asked about his bruised (淤青的) knees. But he said nothing. After several nights, Lena said to him, “You don’t have to do this. The kids don’t care. No one can do everything.” Mark shook his head. “They think I can. Let me try a little longer.”
One night, after he fell off the bike again, he heard a voice. “Dad?” His heart stopped.

That Saturday, when his family went biking, Mark stayed at the campsite happily.______________________
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
It was Alice, who had followed him out of curiosity. She happened to see him leave at night and the bruises on his knees made her worried. “Dad, what are you doing?” she asked. Mark picked up the bike slowly and asked her to sit down with him. Then he told her everything — the summer at seven, the years of excuses, the fear of letting them down. Alice listened quietly. When he finished, he felt a little embarrassed. But Alice just hugged him. “Dad, we don’t care whether you can ride,” she whispered. “We just want you to be with us.” Mark hugged her back, his throat tight. “Okay,” he said softly. “Of course, I’ll be there.” (107词)
That Saturday, when his family went biking, Mark stayed at the campsite happily. He set up the tent, lit the campfire, and started cooking dinner: steak, chicken wings, hot dogs, hot chocolate — everything the kids loved. An hour later, the kids came riding back, tired and hungry. “Daddy! I’m starving!” Bob shouted, grabbing a piece of steak. Alice drank the hot chocolate, leaning against him. “You are the best dad in the world,” she whispered. That night, watching his children sleep soundly, Mark smiled. He couldn’t ride a bike. But he could take good care of the family. And that was enough. (89词)

28. What is special about the codas of sperm whales?
A. They are songs found in the 1960s.
B. They were first studied by a novelist.
C. They are clicks similar to human vowels.
D. They are heard through whales’ screaming.
29. What decides the type of vowel according to linguists?
A. The movement of the tongue and lips.
B. The concentration level of sound energy.
C. The smooth flow of air through the mouth.
D. The relationship between different formants.
30. Which statement can well describe diphthongs in the study?
A. They are sounds named a/i-coda in the study.
B. They are sounds keeping a single vowel form.
C. They are sounds shifting rapidly between vowels.
D. They are sounds produced with separate patterns.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Whales: Cleverer Than Humans
B. CETI’s Study on Humpback Whales
C. Whales: Communicating Like Humans
D. Human-like Vowels in Whale Communication
D

Plants don’t hear sound like humans do, but they can feel vibrations from sound and respond positively to certain types of music, according to a study published in Nature. The sound vibrations from music copy natural influences like wind or water. 36. ______ They have taller stems(茎), larger flowers, and healthier leaves. Singing can also encourage healthy plants by adding CO₂.
Chris Beardshaw, a gardening expert, conducted a greenhouse experiment comparing music types. He discovered that classical music slightly improved growth, while the music of rock and roll singer Cliff Richard led to plants dying. The loud, rhythmic energy of heavy metal proved most effective for flowering. 37. ______
Overall, findings seem to demonstrate that plants prefer more rhythmic types, especially classical and heavy metal. According to the garden company Moana Nursery, classical music seems to work wonders to keep the pores(气孔) on the outer skin of plants open longer. 38. ______ Heavy metal appears to stimulate even greater growth. You can even find playlists on Spotify made just for your plants.
However, understanding plants’ music taste can be tricky. It can depend on all sorts of variables like plant type, music style, and environmental factors. 39. ______ The improvements in plant health observed during these studies could also be caused by better plant care and attentive behavior from caretakers.
40. ______ Play Mozart’s light music as you tend to flowers, or put on Metallica’s energetic beats while planting vegetables. You might notice lusher(更茂盛的) growth, or maybe no change at all. But either way, at the very least, you’ll have a great soundtrack.
A. In this way, they can take in more air.
B. Plants may sense someone is watching them nearby.
C. It was revealed that plants exposed to music grow faster.
D. After all, unlike animals, plants’ sense of hearing is weak.
E. Stricter controls are needed to link music and plant growth.
F. A link between energetic music and plant health is suggested.

D

G. Whether plants like music or not, adding it to your gardening.

第二节(满分25分)
