(一)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D 四个选项选出最佳答案。

Last week, our school organized an activity called “Donate your love!”. Most of us were kind and took out our lucky money and pocket money. We put the money into the donation box one by one. After that, the headmaster gave a speech. He told us the total amount of the money raised by us and the lives of the children in the mountains. We also watched a short film about children’s life and study in the mountains. What terrible conditions they are in! At that time, I realized the donation box contained not only money, but our love for the children in poor mountainous areas. The money we donated would become those children’s schoolbags, clothes, books, or one of the bricks to build a new school, so that they could live a better life.
In the evening, my mother said, “I will show you some pictures of the children in the mountains, then you may know how lucky you are.” She found some pictures for me on the website, and I found that it was even worse than I had imagined: old books, clothes made of a few pieces of cloth, mud walls, small pencil heads, broken tables and chairs. Tears came to my eyes. What impressed me most was a little girl, who held a pencil only two centimeters long in her hand but still focused on her studies. And the books on the table were simply tattered, which had been used a lot over a long period of time. I didn’t know what to say for a moment. However, that made me love my present life more.
The children in the mountains dream of studying in bright big classrooms, but their poor lives break their dreams. The children in the mountains wish to play football happily on the playground, but the poor conditions stop them from realizing this wish. They don’t have the power to change, but we do.

In most places of the world, a five-day work week is common. But in some places, people are trying carrying out the idea of paying workers the same money for working just four days a week.
The idea isn’t new, but businesses have been slow to try it. They may be worried about getting less work for their money. But the results of a last year’s test, run by the University of Cambridge, suggest the move may be good for both businesses and workers.
Last June, 61UK companies agreed to try the four-day work week when paying their workers the same money. In return, they asked their workers to try to do as much in four days as they usually did in five. The test ran for six months, and turned out to be good for most businesses. During the test, some companies cut meetings, or made sure they were shorter. Others used technology to help workers get more done quickly. Some companies created a “focus time ” so workers could work on just one thing without being interrupted (打扰). Therefore, workers worked faster and better. Besides, the companies made more money.
Most of the workers were satisfied with the four-day work week. Some people said they were able to get more training and take care of things at home. Others said they were able to spend more time with their families. At the end of the test, ninety-two percent of the companies involved (参与) said they planned to keep the four-day work week.
36.Why have businesses been slow to try the four-day work week?
A.Because they were afraid their workers would do less work.
B.Because they had no idea of how to start it.
C.Because they had some troubles in paying their workers.
D.Because they did not want their workers to rest more.
37.What should workers do in a four- day work week according to Paragraph 3?
A.They should spend more time helping others. B.They should work more and get less money.
C.They should do less work in shorter time.
D.They should finish as much work as they do in five.

My Unforgettable Charity Experience
Last month, our school held a charity sale to help kids in poor areas. I brought my favourite storybooks and hand-drawn cards to sell. Many teachers and students came and bought them. We raised over 1,000 yuan in the end.
This experience taught me that small actions can make a big difference. I felt proud to help others. I hope more people can join us to support charities. Even a little love can warm the world.
