As we spend more time on touch screens, digital devices (数码设备) are not just changing our habits, but also affecting our skills, especially in kids. While the digital world can be fun and educational, many experts are worried that too much screen time is hurting kids’ fine motor skills.
Fine motor skills are the small movements we make with our hands and fingers. These skills help us do important daily tasks, such as writing, buttoning shirts and tying shoes. Normally, children develop these skills by doing hands-on activities like playing with toys and creating arts. But now, ________. It leads to weaker fine motor skills.
Using screens relates to a lot of tapping and swiping (滑动), which doesn’t help develop the precise (精细的) finger movements and hand-eye coordination (协调) that hands-on play provides. Less physical playtime means that children have fewer chances to build these important skills naturally. As a result, everyday tasks once considered routine, such as fastening buttons or tying shoelaces, are now a challenge for many young learners.
Occupational therapists (职业治疗师) are seeing more children in need of help with their fine motor skills for school and daily activities. Some even find it hard to grip (紧握) a pencil or zip up their jackets. But there’s good news. Parents and teachers can help by adding screen-free playtime to kids’ daily lives. Fun activities like drawing, crafting, building with Lego, and doing puzzles build kids’ finger strength and improve their hand-eye coordination. These activities also help focus and balance, which help children perform better during playground activities. Finding a balance between screen time and physical play helps kids develop strong fine motor skills while still enjoying the benefits of technology.
26. According to the text, what problem might too much screen time cause in children?
A. Weaker ability to explore the digital world. B. Poor performance in precise finger tasks.
C. Serious eye problems and diseases. D. Less interest in art.
27. Why are fine motor skills important for children?
A. They help children improve their learning abilities. B. They enable kids to do basic daily activities.
C. They make tapping and swiping on screens easier. D. They allow children to develop personal strengths.
28. What does the underlined word “routine” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Something special. B. Something common. C. Something healthy. D. Something harmful.
29. Which of the following can be put in “________” in Paragraph 2?
A. kids often play more on screens than with their hands B. digital devices are more useful for kids
C. kids spend more time on toys, arts and crafts D. parents allow kids to have less screen time
30. Which can be the best title for the passage?
A. Why Kids Love Screen Time B. Who to Blame for Letting Kids Use Screens
C. More Attention to Screen time D. Fewer Digital Activities, More Hands-on Activities

A Wonderful Family Day
Family Day is a day that parents spend with their kids. It is a special time to strengthen the bond between family members. One of the benefits of Family Day is that it helps parents and children to communicate better. Another benefit is that it creates lasting memories that everyone can cherish.
Last year, my family and I had a wonderful Family Day. We decided to go to the park and have a picnic. We played games, shared stories, and laughed a lot. My parents even joined in a game of soccer with me and my sister. It was a day full of joy and love. I felt so close to my family, and it reminded me how important it is to spend quality time together.
I encourage all my classmates to take time to be with their families. Whether it’s playing a game, sharing a meal, or just talking, these moments are precious. Let’s make every day a Family Day!
