Sudden cardiac(心脏的) death is a sudden death caused by heart problems. It is very dangerous because it happens fast and is hard to treat. Some bad habits make the heart work in a wrong way. Its beats can be very fast, which can lead to blood flow problems. People may feel bad and even die in a few minutes.
In China, about 550,000 people die from it every year. Many of them are young. Bad living habits such as staying up late, eating much junk food and working too long are the main reasons.
We can do many things to protect ourselves. First, we should have health checks every year. Second, we need good living habits. We should sleep early, exercise three times a week and eat less salty and sweet food. Third, if we have hypertension (高血压) or other illnesses, we must take medicine on time.
Our body will give us warning signs before it gets very serious. We may have chest (胸口) pain, feel it hard to breathe, be too tired or feel dizzy (头晕的). When we have these problems, we must stop all activities at once, lie down slowly and call 120 for help right away.
It’s important for us to learn about these signs. Many young people think they are healthy and don’t care about these small signs. But they are wrong. Sudden cardiac death is not far from us. We must care about our heart health, keep healthy habits and care for ourselves well

An old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law (儿媳妇), and four-year-old grandson. The old man’s hands shook, his eyesight was poor, and he walked shakily.
The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather’s shaky hands and poor sight made eating difficult. Food fell off his spoon onto the floor, and when he tried to pick it up, the glass of milk spilled(洒) on the tablecloth. The son and his wife became irritated with the mess.
So they set a small table in the corner. From then on, the grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed their dinner together. Since he broke a dish, his food had been served in a wooden bowl.
Sometimes, the family would see a tear in the old man’s eye as he sat alone. Yet, all he ever received were sharp scoldings (斥责). His four-year-old grandson watched everything in silence.
One evening before dinner, the father noticed his little boy playing with some pieces of wood on the floor. “What are you making?” he asked sweetly. “Oh, I’m making bowls for you and Mama to eat from when I grow up,” the boy answered and went back to work.
His words touched the parents deeply. No word was spoken, but both knew what must be done. That evening, the husband took his father’s hand and gently led him back to the family table.
For the rest of his days, the old man ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, the son and his wife no longer seemed to care about the spilled milk or the food on the floor.

Among the many amazing animals in the ocean, few are as strange and unusual as the octopus (章鱼). There are around 300 different kinds of octopuses, and they come in all sizes. The smallest is only about 2.5 centimeters long, but some can grow to more than five meters. There was even an octopus over nine meters long.
The octopus has a very interesting body. All octopuses have eight arms. Their brain is not only in their head but also in their arms, which allows them to think about and do more than one thing at the same time. Octopuses can also fit into small spaces because they have no bones. And did you know they have three hearts? These hearts work with different parts of the body.
Octopuses can also do many amazing things. Most of them can change their color and shape to look like plants or other sea animals, which helps them hide from danger. They can also produce ink and keep it inside a small bag in their body. When they let out the ink, it creates a dark cloud that makes it hard for other animals to see them. This helps the octopus escape quickly. What’s more, if an octopus loses an arm, it can grow a new one.
Studying amazing animals like the octopus is important because we can learn a lot from them. They also remind us how wonderful nature is and why it is important to protect it.

A. Their three hearts. B. Their boneless body.
C. Their brain in both head and arms. D. Their ability to change color.
37. How does ink help an octopus run away from danger?
A. It makes the octopus swim faster.
B. It creates a dark cloud that stops their enemies from seeing them.

Look on the Bright Side
Last year, I failed a math exam. I felt very sad and disappointed. At first, I thought I was not good at math. But then, I decided to look on the bright side. I realized that failure is a chance to learn. I analyzed my mistakes and found that I needed to practice more. I started to study harder and ask my teacher for help. Gradually, my math skills improved. In the next exam, I got a much better score.
From this experience, I learned that setbacks can make us stronger. Instead of giving up, we should face challenges positively. Now, I always try to find the bright side in every situation. It helps me grow and become a better person.
