Three Men Make a Tiger
Long ago, during the Warring States period in China, there was an official called Pang Cong. ____1____ he left the kingdom for a trip, he went to see the king. He asked the king a question. “If one person comes and tells you that there is a tiger on the street, do you believe ____2____?” The king answered, “No, of course not.” Pang then asked, “What if two people say the same thing?” The king said, “I might begin to doubt.” Pang asked again, “If three people all say they have seen a tiger on the street, what would you do?” The king replied, “Then I would believe it.”
Pang used this example to ____3____ the king that rumors (流言) could be very dangerous. He ____4____ that even a silly lie could spread quickly if many people repeated it. He explained that while he was away, his enemies might spread false information about him. Even if those stories were not true, if enough people repeated them, the king might accept them as truth. The king understood the warning. But ____5____, when Pang returned to the kingdom after his trip, the king still refused to see him. The rumors had won ____6____ the end.
This story gives us the famous Chinese proverb: “Three men make a tiger.” It means that a lie repeated by many people can begin to sound ____7____. People often believe something just because they have heard it many times. That is why we must be careful of hearsay—information that mixes truth and lies.
Today, we see the same problem with fake news on social media. Do not let repeated lies fool you, and try to avoid ____8____ false information easily. Remember: three men ____9____ not really make a tiger. Always base your judgment (判断) on ____10____, not on how many times something is said.

Do you remember playing the “I Spy” game on long car rides as a kid? A color walk is very similar. You pick a color and then look for things in that color while you walk. This activity is a kind of walking meditation (冥想). It is also a popular trend on TikTok with millions of views.
There are many benefits of walking meditation. Many adults do not get enough exercise. Taking a 30-minute walk five times a week is good for your health. Walking can lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease and help you sleep better. It can also make you feel less tired and get sick less often. A 2018 study found that a 10-minute brisk (轻快的), meditative walk can reduce stress and improve mood. Another study in 2022 showed that walking in nature helps with anxiety and depression.
For some people, sitting meditation is very difficult. They may feel bored or restless. A walking meditation is easier because you move your body and focus on a simple task. A color walk keeps you in the present moment. This is especially helpful for people who often feel worried or keep thinking about problems. Looking for colors around you stops you from thinking about stress.
So how can we take a color walk? First, go outside without music or podcasts. Focus on what you see, hear, and smell. Second, pick one color, such as red, blue, yellow, or green. Then look for different shades of that color. For example, if you choose green, you might see grass, tree leaves, a green car, or someone’s green backpack. Enjoy finding each item. You can change colors every 10 minutes or walk with a friend. There is no wrong way to do it. The most important thing is to get outside, exercise, and practice mindfulness.
16. How does the writer begin the passage?
A. By listing the health benefits of walking.
B. By asking a question about TikTok.
C. By giving an example of a color walk.
D. By comparing color walk to a game.
17. The underlined word “depression” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________ in Chinese.
A. 乐观开朗 B. 情绪低落 C. 积极向上 D. 胆战心惊
18. According to the passage, why do some people prefer a color walk to sitting meditation?
A. Because it requires less time.
B. Because it doesn’t need any preparation.
C. Because it can be done with a friend.
D. Because it’s about moving and focusing on a simple task.
19. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a benefit of color walk?
A. Increasing your walking speed. B. Lowering blood pressure.
C. Reducing anxiety. D. Keeping you in the present moment.
20. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce a popular childhood game “I Spy”.
B. To explain the health benefits of sitting meditation.

Bye-Bye, Fly
Deep in a marsh (沼泽) somewhere in North Carolina, a hungry fly is searching for a meal. The air is warm and damp, and a soft wind moves through the grass. Buzzing in the sky, the fly notices a sweet, fruity smell. That smell comes from a very special plant—the Venus flytrap. Its leaves grow in pairs, like an open clam’s shell, and they shine with sweet juice. To the fly, it looks like the perfect place to land and eat.
But the Venus flytrap is not a common plant. As the fly lands on the leaf and takes a few steps toward the juice, it touches tiny, sensitive hairs on the leaf’s surface. Snap! In less than a second, the two sides of the leaf snap shut, trapping the fly inside. The fly buzzes and pushes, but the leaf stays closed. Instead of enjoying the Venus flytrap’s sweet juice, the fly will be eaten by the plant. Then, the plant begins to break down the fly. After about a week, the leaf opens again, and all that remains is the fly’s empty shell.
You might wonder: why would a plant eat insects? Most plants get all the nutrients (养分) they need from the soil. But North Carolina’s marshes are missing some important nutrients. Few plants can grow there. The Venus flytrap, however, has found a clever solution: it gets the missing nutrients from the insects it catches. That is how it lives in a place where other plants would die.
Next time you see a plant standing perfectly still, remember: it might be a hunter, waiting for its next meal.
21. What is the correct order of how the Venus flytrap catches a fly?
a. The fly lands on a leaf.
b. The leaves close tightly around the fly.
c. The fly is attracted by the sweet juice.
d. The Venus flytrap senses the insect touching the hairs.
A. a-c-d-b B. c-a-d-b C. c-a-b-d D. a-c-b-d
22. Why does the Venus flytrap eat insects?
A. To protect itself from danger.

C. To get nutrients missing in the soil.
D. To clean up the marsh environment.
23. From the passage, we can infer that ________.
A. the Venus flytrap grows well in rich soil
B. most plants can get nutrients from insects
C. the Venus flytrap acts very slowly when catching insects

You may feel that math is difficult and boring. Is it possible that you’ve been looking at math in the wrong way? Li Xing, a math professor at Ningxia University, thinks math can be beautiful and fun. I completely agree with what he said.
Numbers are beautiful
There is math hidden in beautiful human bodies. Measure the length from your head to your belly button and from your belly button to your feet. The ratio (比例) of these two numbers is always around 0.618. This is the golden ratio, which can be seen everywhere, like in nature, music and paintings.
In Chinese poems, we can also see the beauty of numbers. As Li Bai wrote, “My skiff has left ten thousand mountains far away”, “A thousand miles in one day”—all these numbers show how fast Li Bai traveled and how happy he felt.
Curves (曲线) are beautiful
“Sine curves” are beautiful. They go towards the two opposite directions on and on without ever ending. When you look at them, you may feel like standing by the sea and watching the waves slowly moving. “Tangent curve” is like a waterfall, just as Li Bai wrote, “dashing down three thousand feet from on high.”
Formulas (公式) are beautiful
There are some amazing formulas. In a right-angled triangle (), the square of the longest side is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. How amazing! Just as Chinese-American mathematician Shiing-Shen Chern said “fun!”
26. If the ratio of a thing is around 0.618, ________.
A. it has a golden color
B. it only happens in human bodies
C. it looks like a human body
D. it might bring people a sense of beauty
27. Why does the writer mention Li Bai and his poems in the passage?
A. To introduce the topic.
B. To support his opinion.
C. To share the beauty of Li Bai’s poems
D. To offer advice on learning math.
28. What does a tangent curve look like?
A. B. C. D.
29. What does the passage tell us about a right-angled triangle?
A. Its three sides are of the same length.
B. The longest side equals the sum of the other two sides.
C. The square of the longest side equals the sum of the squares of the other two sides.
D. Math formulas can only be used in triangles.
30. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Why math is beautiful and fun.
B. Why math is difficult and boring.
C. How we can learn math in the right way
D. How math helps us live a better life.
【答案】26. D 27. B 28. C 29. C 30. A

Young Chinese Dream Makers
Young Snooker Champion
Wu Yize, a 22-year-old Chinese snooker player, was born in Lanzhou in 2003. He fell in love with snooker at the age of seven. To support his dream, his father sold the family house and moved with Wu to Sheffield, England. They lived in a small room with no windows and shared a narrow bed for two years. Wu trained eight hours or more every day. His idol is Ronnie O’Sullivan.
In May 2026, Wu made history by winning his first World Snooker Championship. He defeated England’s Shaun Murphy 18-17 in a thrilling final. When the score was tied at 17-17, he kept his cool and made an 85-point break to win. Wu became the first player born after 2000 to win the title. His next goal is to become world number one. He is now a role model, proving that hard work and perseverance can turn dreams into reality.
Two Young Inventors
Dun Tianrui and Weng Hanke, both 28 years old, are from China. Dun studied directing at university and had no physics background, but his childhood dream came from watching the cartoon Big Hero 6. Weng was a physics student who shared the same interest. For eight years, they failed hundreds of times but never gave up. Dun even sold his future wedding house to get money for their project.
Finally, they built a large floating wind power system that works at 2,000 meters above the ground—a “flying power station” that set a new world record. The system can quickly send electricity after natural disasters when power lines are broken. Their success shows that science and technology make our country stronger, and young people with big dreams can achieve amazing things.

C. To describe how to do a color walk and its advantages.
D. To compare different studies about walking in nature.
D
B. To produce sunlight for growth.
C. To get nutrients missing in the soil.
D. To clean up the marsh environment.
23. From the passage, we can infer that ________.
A. the Venus flytrap grows well in rich soil
B. most plants can get nutrients from insects
C. the Venus flytrap acts very slowly when catching insects
D. the Venus flytrap is different from most common plants
24. The main purpose of the last sentence is to ________.
A. encourage readers to think differently about plants
B. suggest that people should stay away from still plants
C. warn readers that all plants are dangerous
D. stress that only the Venus flytrap eats insects
25. We can probably read this passage from a ________.
A. science website B. tourist guide C. story-telling magazine D. history textbook
