A. That B. What C. When D. Which 【答案】A 【解析】 【详解】考查名词性从句。 B. what所……,…… 故选A项。 7. He had never taken me to work with him before. How could I have said no? I had no idea where my father worked, nor how he earned a living. All I knew, back around 1992, was that he left our house every morning before we woke up and came back every night after we finished dinner. So, I gave him a positive answer. My dad drove us south to the city of Newark, where he was born. There we entered a middle-class apartment building. He made the rounds doing regular duty for the next few hours with me following closely. He checked the basic systems and services. He collected rents. He carried around a case of tools in case he needed to fix a broken door or get a washing machine running again. He took me to work with him a few other times over the years. I always loved going: I got to see him in action, doing his job among other people, out in the wider world and looking important, even heroic. I felt proud of him, proud to be his son. I wish he had taken me more often. Years later, I followed this tradition. I took my daughter Caroline with me to my office for a day. She saw me in a glassed-off conference room brainstorming with colleagues, on the phone talking with clients and — no doubt the most attractive scene of all — on my computer writing a report. With any luck, my daughter felt the same pride I had felt with my own father. Today fewer and fewer kids get the same opportunity. Maybe we should make this a tradition. 34. C. Answering phone calls and organizing paperwork. D. Writing reports and attending meetings regularly. 36. How did the author feel after seeing his father work? A. He felt pity for his father. B. He admired his father’s skills. C. He thought highly of his father. D. He questioned his father’s choice. 37. How did the author’s experience with his dad influence him? A. It helped him build a successful career. B. It developed his great talents for business. C. It deepened his understanding of his work. D. It made him proud and follow the same tradition. 34. It is using machine learning and AI to help firefighters. The company hopes its software can make exact predictions about earthquake damage. It can tell firefighters how to plan for an earthquake and how to do their jobs better when it happens. Nicole Hu, a technology officer from One Concern, says the key is to feed the computers a lot of data (数据) about an area. The data may include information about homes and other buildings, the natural environment, and the size of an earthquake. The computers then use the information to make predictions about what would happen if there were an earthquake in the area. It then uses data from past earthquakes to see whether its predictions are any good, and changes its predictive models accordingly. Gregory Deierlein, earthquake engineer at the Stanford University, says one of the most surprising things about the company’s software is its ability to make use of data from an earthquake as it’s happening, and to change its predictions in real time. In the past, researchers would collect data after an event and a few years later they’d produce new models, says Deierlein. Now the new models appear in a matter of minutes. Dan Ghiorso leads the Woodside Fire Protection District near San Francisco, which covers about 32 square miles. He says in the past, when an earthquake hit, he’d have to make educated guesses (based on experience and training) about what parts of his district might be badly damaged and then drive to each place to have a look around. He hopes One Concern’s software will change that. “Instead of driving thirty-two square miles, in fifteen minutes on a computer I can get a good idea of the damage,” be says. “Instead of me taking my educated guess, they’re putting science behind the predictive models.” 38. What do we know about the software’s predictions? A. They can be made before and during an earthquake. B. They are based on data from many different areas. C. They are about when an earthquake may happen. D. They can tell people the size of an earthquake. 39. What is an advantage of the software according to Deierlein? A. It has many different uses. B. It is sold at very low prices. C. It can make predictions very fast. D. It can be used by common people. 40. How does Ghiorso feel about the new technology? A. Worried. B. Hopeful. C. Indifferent. D. Doubtful. 41. What is the purpose of the passage? A. To introduce the software developed by One Concern. B. To tell us how to reduce earthquake damage. C. To tell us how software works. D. To introduce a promising company. A 39. C 40. B 41. 根据第一段“One Concern is an AI company in California. Now the new models appear in a matter of minutes.(迪尔林内表示:“过去,研究人员会在事件发生后收集数据,然后过几年再推出新的模型。而现在,新的模型几分钟内就能生成出来。”)”可知,根据Deierlein的说法,该软件的优势是它能非常快地进行预测。 【40题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“He hopes One Concern’s software will change that. “Instead of driving thirty-two square miles, in fifteen minutes on a computer I can get a good idea of the damage,” he says. “Instead of me taking my educated guess, they’re putting science behind the predictive models.”(他希望One Concern的软件能改变这种情况。“不用开车跑32平方英里,在电脑上花15分钟我就能大致了解损害情况,”他说。“他们不是像我那样靠合理推测,而是在预测模型中运用了科学方法。”)”可知,Ghiorso对这项新技术充满希望。 【41题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“One Concern is an AI company in California. It is using machine learning and AI to help firefighters. The company hopes its software can make exact predictions about earthquake damage.(One Concern是加利福尼亚的一家人工智能公司。它正利用机器学习和人工智能来帮助消防员。该公司希望其软件能够准确预测地震造成的损害)”可知,文章主要介绍了One Concern公司利用人工智能开发的可以预测地震损害的软件,故文章的目的是介绍One Concern公司开发的软件。 D Years ago, when I started looking for my first job, wise advisers advise “Barbara, be enthusiastic! Enthusiasm will take you further than any amount of experience.” How right they were! “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” Wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson. It is the paste (粘合剂) that helps you hang on there when the going gets tough. It is the inner voice that whispers, “I can do it!” When others shout, “No, you can’t!” It took years and years for the early work of Barbara Mclintock, a geneticist who won the 1983 Nobel Prize in medicine, to be generally accepted. Yet she didn’t stop working on her experiments. Work was such a deep pleasure for her that she never thought of stopping. We are all born with wide-eyed, enthusiastic wonder and it is this childlike wonder that gives enthusiastic people such youthful air, whatever their age. At 90, cellist Pablo Casals would start his day by playing Bach. As the music flowed through his fingers, his stooped (驼背的) shoulders would straighten and joy would reappear in his eyes. As author and poet Samuel Ulman once wrote, “Years wrinkle (起皱纹) the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.” Enthusiastic people also love what they do, regardless of money or title or power. Patricia Mellratl, a retired director of the Missouri Repertory Theater in Kansas City, was once asked where she got her enthusiasm. She replied, “My father, long ago, told me, I never made a fortune until I stopped working for money.” If we cannot do what we love as a full-time career, we can as a hobby. Elizabeth Layton Wellsville, Kan, was 68 before she began to draw. This activity ended periods of depression that troubled her for at least 30 years and the quality of her work led one critic to say, “I am tempted into a genius.” We can’t afford to waste tears on “might-have-been”. We need to turn the tears into sweat as we go after “what-can-be”. We need to live each moment whole-heartedly, with all our senses — finding pleasure in the sweet smell of a back-yard garden, the simple picture of a six-year-old, the beauty of a rainbow. 42. The author holds the view that _______. A. enthusiasm is more important than experience B. enthusiasm can give people more success and fame C. enthusiastic people will never get old D. enthusiasm can make you succeed and enjoy life 43. The author mentions cellist Pablo Casals in the third paragraph to show that _______. A. enthusiasm can make people feel young B. music can arouse people’s enthusiasm C. enthusiasm can give people inspiration needed to succeed D. enthusiasm can keep people healthy 44. According to the passage, what can we learn about Elizabeth Layton Wellsville? A. She started drawing at the age of 38. B. Drawing helped her get rid of depression. C. Her drawings were not well-received. D. She made a living by drawing. 45. Which proverb may the writer agree with according to the last paragraph? A. Good beginning makes a good ending. B. Don’t cry over the spoiled milk. C. Love me, love my dog. D. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. D 43. A 44. B 45. Accompanied by typical Jin opera (晋剧) music, a red-faced performer with a long beard showed up at the hall of a high school in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. All the students in the hall stood up and craned (伸长) their necks to get a better look. In their eyes, Jin opera was something from the past. They are not alone. It goes without saying that kids nowadays are much more familiar with popular music than traditional opera, which is why performing artist Wu Lingyun, together with his colleagues, goes to campuses to promote the art. Wu Lingyun is renowned for his role as Guan Gong, a general during the late Han Dynasty period.Wu began playing the role in 1985, at the age of 21, and has been associated with it ever since. Wu was significantly influenced by his parents, both of whom are also famous Jin opera performers. With a natural talent for performing and great effort, Wu was soon recognized by audiences and later awarded the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award in 2000, the highest award for Chinese drama performing arts. Given Wu’s considerable fame, one might think he would now prefer to enjoy a life of leisure. However, this is far from the case. Deep down, Wu has a big dream. He pictures a growing future for Jin opera. Wu expected more chances for more people to get to know about the art, hoping Jin opera could become a worldwide art. Wu has also made some changes to the traditional art to bring it up-to-date. “Jin opera should keep pace with the times if we want to bring it back to life and get the young generation to accept it,” he says,“An art without life can never survive.” 46. How did the students react to the performance at the hall? (no more than 10 words) __________________________________________________ 47. What does the underlined word “renowned” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? (only one word) __________________________________________________ 48. Why was Wu soon recognized by audiences and later won the Award? (no more than 12 words) __________________________________________________ 49. What does Wu Lingyun expect of Jin opera? (no more than 8 words) __________________________________________________ 50. What do you think of Wu Lingyun according to the passage? Why? (no more than 20 words) __________________________________________________ 【答案】46. They felt curious. 47. Famous. 48. Because of his talent, effort and parents’ influence. 49. It will be popular across the world. 50. He is dedicated. Because he makes efforts to develop and promote Jin opera. 由文章第一段中“Accompanied by typical Jin opera (晋剧) music, a red-faced performer with a long beard showed up at the hall of a high school in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. All the students in the hall stood up and craned (伸长) their necks to get a better look. 故答案为They felt curious. 从文章第三段“Wu Lingyun is renowned for his role as Guan Gong, a general during the late Han Dynasty period. (武凌云以其扮演的东汉时期的将军关羽这一角色而renowned)”和第四段中“With a natural talent for performing and great effort, Wu was soon recognized by audiences and later awarded the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award in 2000, the highest award for Chinese drama performing arts. 依据文章第四段“Wu was significantly influenced by his parents, both of whom are also famous Jin opera performers. With a natural talent for performing and great effort, Wu was soon recognized by audiences and later awarded the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award in 2000, the highest award for Chinese drama performing arts. Because of his talent, effort and his parents’ influence. 根据文章第五段“He pictures a growing future for Jin opera. Wu expected more chances for more people to get to know about the art, hoping Jin opera could become a worldwide art. It will be popular across the world. 根据倒数第二段的“Given Wu’s considerable fame, one might think he would now prefer to enjoy a life of leisure. However, this is far from the case. Deep down, Wu has a big dream. He pictures a growing future for Jin opera. Wu expected more chances for more people to get to know about the art, hoping Jin opera could become a worldwide art. 武凌云希望有更多的机会让更多的人了解晋剧艺术,希望晋剧能够成为一门世界性的艺术)”以及最后一段中的“Wu has also made some changes to the traditional art to bring it up-to-date. He is dedicated. Because he makes efforts to develop and promote Jin opera. Dear teachers and schoolmates, Good morning! B “Do you want to go to work with me today?” Asked my father one day when I was nine or 10 years old. 34. C One Concern is an AI company in California. D Years ago, when I started looking for my first job, wise advisers advise “Barbara, be enthusiastic!
