Handing out flowers in Green Park部分内容可知,格林公园的花都被摘掉了,只剩
Counting trees in the Royal Parks部分的第二句话“These are young trees,
though, compared to London's oldest tree-a great elm in High Barnet that is said to be over 2,000 years
old.”
根据Underground secrets in Greenwich部分中的“Greenwich Park shows more
fascinating features.Deep under the surface are buried a series of secret tunnels that are tall enough for a
person to walk.”
根据第三段“It first caught public attention20 years after Ehrmann's death in the 1960s,
when peace and love suddenly seemed quite attractive.By the 1970s copies of the text hung in classrooms and
living rooms all over America. However, most people today don't know the poem anymore..”可知,
Desiderata
根据倒数第二段“But Desiderata still seems the most helpful one..Go placidly through
life. Not gently or quietly, but with calm and confidence, even when in the middle of 'noise and haste'.And
I don't know if you've looked out the window recently, but there's an awful lot of noise and haste going
around.”
根据最后一段“I now have a two-year-old kid, which means our house is usually like a
space in a war.”
根据第一段“When I was in my early2Os,I first discovered the poem Desiderata.”;第四
"I have several poems memorized and they have been a great help in their own different ways. But
Desiderata still seems the most helpful one.”
根据第一段中“Last year,an estimated one in seven Americans participated in Dry
January,a challenge to avoid alcohol for a month. The idea is to keep away from holiday excess and start the
new year on a healthier note.”
根据画线词所在句“Doing a‘trial quit'for a short period of time is easier for many people
than going straight to total abstinence”中“easier for many people than'”可知,句中将trial quit和total
absolutely no drinking.
根据第三段中“Within just a few days of not drinking, your blood pressure and heart rate
will be lower, and you'll have improved blood sugar regulation, better sleep, and less anxiety and
depression,'he says.Another bonus:Quitting alcohol often makes other good habits-exercise and healthy
eating, for example-easier to start and maintain, which in turn leads to even more health benefits..”
Taking time away from drinking, even just for a few
weeks, gives you a fresh perspective and the opportunity to break bad habits you may have with alcohol.
It will definitely help you get rid of the
bad habit with alcohol addiction.”
通读全文,尤其结合最后一段中“For everyone一social drinkers and possible problem
drinkers-one key to a positive Dry January is to see it not as a month of gritting your teeth and getting
through it until you can drink again, but rather the start of a healthier lifestyle overall. What better way to
start the new year??”
能接受“For a brand-new start and healthier life,keep it up.(为了一个全新的开始和更健康的生活,坚持下
根据第一段“The study, published in the journal Nature, identified for the first time a
clear and alarming link between the climate crisis and high-intensity agriculture and showed that,in places
where those impacts are particularly high, insect abundance has already dropped by nearly 50%,while the
number of species has been reduced by27%.”和倒数第二段中“Researchers found evident declines in insect
populations in warmer areas, particularly in the tropics. They concluded that in areas with less agriculture,
less climate warming, and a nearby natural habitat, insects only declined by 7%.compared to the 63%
decrease in areas with less natural habitat cover..”
通读全文,尤其是第一段“Extreme land use combined with warming temperatures is
pushing insect ecosystems towards collapse in some parts of the world, scientists reported Wednesday.

38.F上文提到“In this case, they might not understand your point.(在这种情况下,他们可能不理解你的意
Instead of getting impatient,.try to treat it
as a learning experience.(不要不耐烦,试着把它当作一次学习的经历。)”
39.E上文提s到“It's possible that you might think you're working with the same goals in mind, but others may
have different ideas about how to achieve them.(你可能认为你们都在为实现同一个目标而努力,但其他人
项“Once someone explains their viewpoint, take some time to reflect..(一旦有人解释了他们的观点,花点时

4O.G下文提到“But if you put yourself in the right frame of mind, you will likely find it a rewarding
选项“If you've never worked with different cultures before,it can be difficult..(如果你以前从未与

language.
Personally,I've had an amazing experience.Reading English poems is like stepping into a world of beauty
and emotion. The vivid imagery and profound meanings touch my heart. It's not just learning but a journey of
feeling the power and charm of the English language.

low as I possibly could in my chair. After a few seconds, though.I gathered courage to uncover one ear and
peek through a half-open eye. That's when I saw the expression of pure joy on my mum's face. She was having
so much fun that I couldn't help smiling. My classmates clapped and cheered, and I heard someone say,"Wow!
Arizona's mother is pretty talented!"
My mum turned out to be very good at performing. She was also good at teaching us the song and the dance
steps.too.We learned quickly.By the time of the fair.I was actually proud of her for putting herself out there
for us kids. Our performance at the Winter Fair was a huge success. As we drove home,I said to my mum,
"I'm really glad you volunteered to help my class with the performance."My mum reached back and squeezed
my hand."Thanks for saying that.I can see why you might have been embarrassed, but I had such a great
time,”

Handing out flowers in Green Park
Nobody is totally sure how Green Park got its name. There are a few different theories.
One tale says that the name originates from the time of Charles II.The King was walking
through the park with his wife and courtiers when he picked a flower.Instead of handing it to
Queen Catherine,he handed it to another woman that was said to be his mistress(.
Extremely angry, the Queen ordered that all the flowers in the park be dug out, leaving only
grass.
Counting trees in the Royal Parks
When counted together, the Royal Parks contain over 170,000 trees, with the oldest
being the 400-year-old chestnut trees in Greenwich Park. These are young trees, though,
compared to London's oldest tree-a great elm in High Barnet that is said to be over 2,000
years old.London has more than 8 million trees:nearly as many as people there.
Underground secrets in Greenwich
Greenwich Park shows more fascinating features.Deep under the surface are buried a
series of secret tunnels that are tall enough for a person to walk. It's been claimed that the
tunnels were built as secret escape routes for King Henry II.Their real purpose is a little less
exciting, and the tunnels were actually built as waterways to allow groundwater from the
hillsides to escape.
Walking is the best way to explore London's beautiful green spaces. We hope you will
enjoy these fun facts.
21.How might Green Park get its name according to the text?
A.There were so many green trees in it.
B.The King Charles II gave the park its name.
C.The grass in the park was well protected by the Queen.
D.Its flowers were removed and only grass was left.
22.Where is the oldest tree in London?

B.The hillsides with waterways.

When I was in my early 20s,I first discovered the poem Desiderata. It was a grey rainy
weekend in a shop in Australia. On the wall was a poster with a text, and the first two words
were“Go placidly(平静地)”.
Curious,I stepped up to the poster. My eyes were drawn to the poem:Go placidly amid
the noise and haste(),and remember what peace there may be in silence...Speak your
truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others.
Desiderata is a 1920s poem by the almost-forgotten American poet Max Ehrmann. It's
basically an instruction on how to live a happy life.It first caught public attention 20 years
after Ehrmann's death in the 1960s,when peace and love suddenly seemed quite attraetive.By
the 1970s copies of the text hung in classrooms and living rooms all over America. However,
most people today don't know the poem anymore.
I have several poems memorized and they have been a great help in their own different
ways. But Desiderata still seems the most helpful one.Go placidly through life. Not gently
or quietly, but with calm and confidence, even when in the middle of"noise and haste"And
I don't know if you've looked out the window recently, but there's an awful lot of noise and
haste going around.

But among the tears and the painful joy of parenthood,I think of those words-go placidly-

Last year,an estimated one in seven Americans participated in Dry January,a challenge
to avoid alcohol for a month. The idea is to keep away from holiday excess and start the new
year on a healthier note. The annual 31-day practice began as a public health campaign in the
United Kingdom about eight years ago and has been growing ever since.
Dry January is a great strategy for improving your relationship with alcohol, says Keith
Heinzerling,MD,an internist(内科医生)and addiction medicine specialist,.“Doing a‘trial
quit'for a short period of time is easier for many people than going straight to total
abstinence,"he says."Taking time away from drinking,even just for a few weeks,gives you
a fresh perspective and the opportunity to break bad habits you may have with alcohol.
It doesn't take long to start to see positive changes, according to Dr.Heinzerling.
"Within just a few days of not drinking, your blood pressure and heart rate will be lower, and
you'll have improved blood sugar regulation, better sleep, and less anxiety and depression,"
he says.Another bonus:Quitting alcohol often makes other good habits-exercise and
healthy eating, for example-easier to start and maintain, which in turn leads to even more
health benefits.
For those who might not be able to handle a month of not drinking,Dr.Heinzerling
says,"People who wake up with withdrawal symptoms ()sweating,tremors,and a
strong need for a drink should not do Dry January."
For everyone-social drinkers and possible problem drinkers-one key to a positive Dry
January is to see it not as a month of gritting()your teeth and getting through it until you
can drink again, but rather the start of a healthier lifestyle overall. What better way to start
the new year?
28.What can we learn about Dry January?
A.It is a campaign in which participants can learn more about alcohol.
B.Participants are advised to cut out alcohol for a month in January.
C.Participants are advised to take holidays and keep healthy in January.
D.It is a challenge which aims to introduce the harm of drinking alcohol.

Extreme land use combined with warming temperatures is pushing insect ecosystems
towards collapse in some parts of the world, scientists reported Wednesday. The study,
published in the journal Nature, identified for the first time a clear and alarming link between
the climate crisis and high-intensity agriculture and showed that,in places where those
impacts are particularly high, insect abundance()has already dropped by nearly 50%,
while the number of species has been reduced by 27%0.
These findings cause huge concerns, according to Charlotte Outhwaite, the lead author
on the study and researcher at the University College London, given the important role of
insects in local ecosystems, pollination (and food production, and note that losing
insects could threaten human health and food security."Three quarters of our crops depend on
insect pollinators,Dave Goulson,a professor of biology at the University of Sussex in the
UK,previously told CNN."Without insects,crops will-begin to fail.We won't have things
like strawberries.We can't feed 8 billion people."
Scientists say, extreme land use has a link with the climate crisis.Clearing natural
habitats for agriculture can dramatically change the area's local climate and cause temperature
extremes.Researchers found evident declines in insect, populations in warmer areas,
particularly in the tropics().They concluded that in areas with less agriculture, less
climate warming, and a nearby natural habitat, insects only declined by 7%,compared to the
63%decrease in areas with less natural habitat cover.
Outhwaite told CNN there are things we can do to help prevent this crisis, like planting
more native species and wildflowers, and reducing chemicals used in gardens."It's also
probably a good idea to think about where the foods that we are buying are being sourced
from,Outhwaite said."So if they're being sourced from tropical countries, there's probably
going to be a high impact on biodiversity there.
32.Why does the author quote Dave Goulson's words in Paragraph 2?
A.To provide evidence for the decline in insect populations.
B.To emphasize the significance of insects to human life.
C.To show the importance of preserving natural habitats for animals.
D.To suggest potential solutions to prevent the decline of insects.
33.Which of the following may contribute to the largest decline in insect population?
A.Preserving habitats cover in colder areas.
B.Making full use of land in colder areas.
C.Expanding agriculture production in tropics.
D.Planting more native species in warmer areas.

D.The reasons why we should preserve the diversity of insects.

How to Work with Different Cultures
Working effectively with different cultures is a necessary skill for anyone in a culturally
diverse work environment.Cultural variations in the workplace may range from simple
regional differences, such as varying dialects(),to different viewpoints on timeliness,
efficiency,and communication.36
Be aware of your words and actions. What seems proper to you may not be a cultural
standard to another person.37 Is what you're about to say possibly rude?If so,figure
out a way to express it differently. Before you give someone at work a high five or a pat on the
back, take a moment to consider your actions.Based on what you know about that culture,is
touching in the workplace proper?
Practise patience. It may take a while for you to get used to working with people from
different cultures.Don't worry, that's normal.Try not to get angry if communication takes a
little extra effort at first. For example, maybe you are now working with someone whose first
language is not your mother tongue. In this case, they might not understand your point.
38 Try saying,"OK,I can see I'm not making myself clear. How can I help us get on the
same page?”
Look at issues from a different angle().Don't assume that you are all looking at the
issue from the same angle. It's possible that you might think you're working with the same
goals in mind, but others may have different ideas about how to achieve them.39
Looking at an issue from another point of view can help you find solutions that you might not
have considered.
40 But if you put yourself in the right frame of mind, you will likely find it a
rewarding experience despite some challenges.
A.An important way is trying to be humorous.
B.A good rule is to consider your words before you speak
C.Learning to communicate better helps you work with people.
D.There are suggestions for you to work with different cultures.
E.Once someone explains their viewpoint, take some time to reflect.
F.Instead of getting impatient, try to treat it as a learning experience.
G.If you've never worked with different cultures before,it can be difficult.

My parents do a lot of embarrassing things!Usually,it's my dad who sings silly songs or
tells jokes around my friends. But a few weeks ago,it was my mother who played the
embarrassing-parent role.
While my mum and I were shopping,we ran into my teacher, who mentioned the school
didn't have a music teacher to help our class put together a performance for Winter Fair. And,
then my mum said,"I know the perfect song and dance.I'll teach it to the kids!"
Before I could say "Please don't",my mum had agreed to come to my class every morning
at 9:30 for a week.Oh,and just to be clear,it's not as if she's a professional entertainer.My
parents run a small grocery store, and the only singing my mum does is in the shower.
“Mum,”I said on our way home,“are you sure this is such a good idea?”“Of course,.
Arizona!"she said."If we want your school Winter Fair to happen, people need to step up
and volunteer.”She laughed,“We will have fun!”
"OK,kids!"my teacher said at 9:28 on Monday."We're going to stop silent reading a
little early today because a special guest is here to help us with a performance for Winter Fair.
Let's all welcome Arizona's mother.
I looked up to discover my mum standing in the front of the room wearing the world's
silliest hat."I'm super excited to be here with you!"my mum said,"I'm going to teach you a
fun little song-and-dance performance I learned a few years ago.Here goes!"Oh please,oh
please,I said over and over in my head, let there be a fire drill,or a power failure,or
anything to stop my mum from completely embarrassing herself and me!
But apparently,my mum was not at all concerned about looking silly. She turned on
some background music and started singing and dancing away.
