三、阅读理解(本题共15题;每小题2分,共30分)
A
Here’s how to make a model submarine (潜水艇) that dives and comes up from underwater like a real one.
You’ll need
Plastic bottle; Tape; Four coins; Thin plastic tube (管子); Waterproof modeling clay (防水黏土); Small scissors; Tub (盆).
You’ll follow
1. Cut two small holes on one side of the bottle.
Tape coins to that side of the bottle.
Remove cap; seal (密封) the tube to the bottle with clay.
2. Fill tub with water; put bottle in and let it fill with water.
3. Gently blow into the tube and watch what happens. Stop blowing and close the tube with your thumb (大拇指). Lift your thumb and watch what happens.
You’ll see
When you blow, air pushes out water; the bottle becomes lighter and comes up.
Bottle sinks (下沉) when it fills with water and coins weight it down.
Coins keep holes pointing downward, so air does not escape.
When you stop blowing and seal the tube with your thumb, the bottle floats. Lift your thumb, air escapes through the tube and the bottle sinks.
A real submarine works this way, by filling tanks with air or water.
26. Which step needs the help of small scissors?
A. Blowing the air into the bottle. B. Sealing the tube to the bottle.
C. Cutting holes on the bottle. D. Weighting the bottle down.
27. Which of the following is NOT true according to the experiment?
A. Coins are used to stop the air entering the bottle.
B. The bottle will sink when there’s no air but water in it.
C. We can’t use real clay because it can melt easily in water.
D. We should keep watching what happens during the experiment.
28. Mary made a model submarine, but it can’t float. What might be the problem?
A. She used a longer plastic tube.
B. She taped fewer coins to the bottle.
C. She blew too much air into the bottle.
D. She cut holes on opposite sides of the bottle.

Sugar painting, as the name means, is a painting made of sugar. It’s the sugar for us to taste, and the painting for us to admire.
Since the Warring States Period (战国时期), the ancient people loved sweets and developed methods of producing sugar. In the Tang Dynasty, there was huge progress in the technology of sugar making. And sugar, the precious product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into common people’s homes. With the cultural and economic (经济的) development of Song and Yuan Dynasties, people became less interested in only tasting sweetness. In the Ming Dynasty, some people added pictures with good luck into the bowl of sugar, and sugar painting appeared.
Sugar painting is different from normal painting. Sugar painters use syrup (糖浆) as the material, a spoon as the “paintbrush”, and a smooth table as the “paper”. To make syrup, they have to make sugar hot before painting. Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work very quickly. They move the spoon full of syrup up and down, left and right. Soon a sugar painting is done.
However, it’s a pity that this folk art is dying. The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass down the art except those aging sugar painters.
For most people, painting is a kind of art and difficult to understand. However, sugar painting has pulled the art down into people’s daily lives. Through it, we may see the spiritual support of the ancient people across centuries. Now, sugar painting has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in China. Therefore, the art should be remembered , missed and passed down.
29. What does the underlined word “ precious” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Valuable and expensive. B. Useful and cheap.
C. Special but worthless. D. Simple but priceless.
30. Why should sugar painters make the work very quickly?
A. To show their excellent skills. B. To avoid syrup becoming hard.
C. To protect the spoon and the table. D. To reduce people’s waiting time.
31. What’s the writer’s attitude towards today’s sugar painting according to Paragraph 4?
A. Uncaring. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Unclear.
32. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Exploring the Art of Sugar Painting B. Improving the Taste of Sugar Painting
C. Effects of the Sugar Producing Technology D. Way to Change the Future of Sugar Painting

A new study has suggested that the key to reducing feelings of anger is not venting (letting the angry emotions out) but doing calming activities such as yoga or meditation.
The study was published in March by Sophie Kjaervik and Brad Bushman from Ohio State University in the US. They wanted to explore the popular theory that venting (expressing) anger is a good way of reducing it. Examples of venting anger include shouting or hitting something like a cushion, so that you let go of the emotion and therefore don’t feel it any more. The pair looked at 154 other studies on anger. These involved 10,189 people, and included a variety of ages and backgrounds. In their study. Kjaervik and Bushman define anger as an emotional response (反应) to a real or imagined threat (威胁). They used a theory of emotion (情绪理论学说) that says emotions are partly felt in your body and partly in your mind.
The scientists looked at the other studies to see how different activities influenced anger. They found that activities such as running or boxing, which are often thought to be good for dealing with anger, weren’t very good at reducing it. In fact, some of these activities actually made it worse because they increased physical responses in the body that are linked to feeling angry. For example, they made people’s hearts beat faster. However, activities that decreased physical responses in the body did help to reduce feelings of anger. These included activities that slow the heart rate, such as deep breathing, meditation and yoga. Bushman says activities that increase physical responses may be good for heart health but are “definitely not the best way to reduce anger”.
The team found jogging was most likely to increase anger. However, some heart-rate increasing activities like ball games and team sports could reduce anger.
A theory of emotion
Two scientists called Stanley Schachter and Jerome Singer developed the two-factor theory of emotion in 1962. They said that emotions are formed in two parts. First, the body has a physical response to a threat and then the mind considers the physical response as an emotion, which is then felt by the person. For example, imagine you are walking through a forest and you see a bear.
Seeing it would probably start a physical response, such as your heart beating very fast and sweat breaking out. Your mind then decides that this is fear, which you feel as an emotion.
Fear can be a strong emotion.
33. What is the main finding of the new study?
A. A new method of venting anger. B. A new method of reducing anger.
C. Good activities to vent anger. D. Good activities to reduce anger.
34. What can we learn about calming activities?
A. They can reduce feelings of anger. B. They can increase the heart rate.
C. They are good for mind health. D. They are good for heart health.
35. According to Schachter and Singer’s theory, what happens first if you see a snake and feel afraid?
A. You get the feeling of fear. B. You get the feeling of calm.
C. Your heart beats fast. D. Your heart beats slowly.
36. The following sentence can best be put at the end of __________.
They think this shows that fun or playful activities help to reduce negative feelings.
A. Paragraph 1 B. Paragraph 2 C. Paragraph 3 D. Paragraph 4

Joe Gardner in the new movie Soul (《心灵奇旅》) is a jazz lover and gifted piano player who teaches middle school band. He’s trying to win success and get his mother to accept him. When he gets a chance to play with his role model, saxophonist (萨克斯管吹奏) Dorothea Williams, Joe thinks he’s about to achieve his dream in life.
Then Joe falls down a hole Finally, he finds himself in the Great Before, where new souls are prepared for life. It’s also where Joe meets Soul Number 22. He’s sent to help her find her spark—the passion (激情) that encourages her. But 22 isn’t excited about anything till she begins to experience life for herself.

By guiding 22, Joe gains an appreciation for the little things that make life meaningful. For example, 22 gets her spark from common activities, like watching the sky.
The characters in Soul are all very interesting. Everyone has something the movie calls a “spark”. The movie suggests that part of the beauty of life is in finding one’s own spark, and in helping others to find theirs as well. Joe’s piano pieces, played by musician Jon Batiste, are one of the best parts of the film. The music is impressive and full of feeling. It’s easy to believe these works take Joe on a musical journey to another world. By hearing them, we are transported too.
I give Soul 9 points out of 10. The movie is thought exciting and encouraging. As the characters learn from one another, the viewer is invited to examine his or her own life. You’ll want to watch this film again and again with those who know you best, so you can discuss your spark and why it makes you—you.

Zhangzhou hand puppetry (漳州布袋木偶戏) has a history of over 1,000 years. Hand puppet shows need performers to have direct control of their hands. A performer often uses the palm (手掌) as the body of the puppet and the index finger to support the head, while the thumb and the other three fingers support the left and right arms. Highly skilled artists can perform with two puppets, each with different personalities, at the same time. In 2006, Zhangzhou hand puppetry was listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage.
Zhuang Yanhong is a 55-year-old inheritor (传承人) of Zhangzhou hand puppetry. She was born into a “hand puppetry family”. So, her love for it started in her childhood. “My father is a national-level inheritor and my mother a costume designer for hand puppets,” said Zhuang.
Zhuang has studied in a professional art school since the age of 10 and was able to perform with masters across the country at age 16.
According to Zhuang, hand puppet shows become less popular with the rise of TV dramas. To save the old art and make it alive again, creative inheritors have been doing what they can to give it a modern touch. “The puppetry has become much more realistic after flexible (灵活的) arms and legs with joints (关节) were invented. It has also borrowed from other show forms like Peking Opera, modern TV drama and animation,” Zhuang said.
Zhuang believes the art has a bright future. “There is no limit (限制) to hand puppetry because it often needs much imagination and creativity in nature. I think it will have a more creative form in the future.”

【答案】26. C 27. A 28. D
【解析】
【导语】本文介绍了如何制作一个潜水艇模型。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据表格中第一步的“ Cut two small holes on one side of the bottle.”可知,在瓶子的一侧切两个小孔。因此会需要用到小剪刀。故选C。
【27题详解】
细节理解题。根据表格最后一栏中“Coins keep holes pointing downward, so air does not escape.”可知硬币保持孔朝下,因此空气不会逸出,而非阻止空气进去。故选A。
【28题详解】
推理判断题。根据“Cut three small holes in a line with the scissors on one side of the bottle.”可知,用剪刀在瓶子的一侧剪三个小孔,但如果小孔开在瓶子的两侧,则这个潜水艇模型不会浮起来。故选D。

【答案】29. A 30. B 31. C 32. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了糖画的定义、发展历史、制作工艺、现状及文化意义。
【29题详解】
根据第二段中“And sugar, the precious product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into common people’s homes.”可知,早期的糖只有皇室贵族才能享用,说明它是珍贵且昂贵的,因此“precious”的含义与“Valuable and expensive”一致。
【30题详解】
根据第三段中“Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work very quickly.”可知,画师快速创作的原因是防止糖浆冷却变硬,影响制作。
【31题详解】
根据第四段中“However, it’s a pity that this folk art is dying. The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass down the art except those aging sugar painters.”
C
Paragraph 4
【答案】33. D 34. A 35. C 36. D
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍了新研究发现,减少愤怒的关键不是发泄情绪,而是进行瑜伽、冥想等平静活动。
【33题详解】
第一段提到“the key to reducing feelings of anger is not venting (letting the angry emotions out) but doing calming activities such as yoga or meditation”,因此,研究发现的是“减少愤怒的有效活动”。
【34题详解】
第三段提到“However, activities that decreased physical responses in the body did help to reduce feelings of anger. These included activities that slow the heart rate, such as deep breathing, meditation and yoga.”,因此,平静活动可以减少愤怒情绪。
【35题详解】
根据表格中“First, the body has a physical response to a threat and then the mind considers the physical response as an emotion, which is then felt by the person.”可知,身体先对威胁产生生理反应(如心跳加速),然后大脑将其解释为情绪。因此看到蛇时,先是心跳加快。
【36题详解】
第四段提到“jogging was most likely to increase anger. However, some heart-rate increasing activities like ball games and team sports could reduce anger”,慢跑可能增加愤怒,但球类运动和团队运动等心率增加的活动可以减少愤怒,这正对应“有趣的或好玩的活动有助于减少负面情绪”,因此该句适合放在第四段末尾。
D
Joe Gardner in the new movie Soul (《心灵奇旅》) is a jazz lover and gifted piano player who teaches middle school band. He’s trying to win success and get his mother to accept him. Joe’s piano pieces, played by musician Jon Batiste, are one of the best parts of the film. The music is impressive and full of feeling. It’s easy to believe these works take Joe on a musical journey to another world. By hearing them, we are transported too.

阅读与回答问题
