I found a special app on my cellphone after I turned 15 and I fell in love with it immediately.
The app is a social media platform where people share snippets (片段) of their lives and content they consider worth sharing, and it’s also a space to communicate with others. While all those are obviously great things, it comes with many negative aspects. Number 1 on the list of problems is the scrolling (滚屏) addiction. The Internet is overflowing with con tent and our “Far You” page is an unending supplier of it. What I’ve come to learn through my own experience is that after some time we become so used to scrolling that it becomes a reflex action (反射动作) for us to do so whenever we’re bored.
Before I used the app, I really loved writing and reading books. However, after I used it, everything changed for me. All I wanted to do was to be on my phone. Scrolling was just making me feel tired and lazy and my creativity was lost. I wasn’t feeling motivated enough to get myself out of the bad cycle I’d fallen into.
Finally, I realized that I was stuck. I knew I needed to get out of it. It didn’t just happen overnight though. It took me a few weeks to finally stop using the app. Now I can concentrate on reading and writing again. I’m glad I’ve made the right decision.
I know many young people are struggling now just like I used to. If you think using social media platforms is negatively affecting your life, then take action to quit it. I’ve managed to do that. You can do it, too.
1. What does the author think is the biggest problem of using the app?
A. Being addicted to scrolling. B. Sharing too much about one’s life.
C. Making one get bored easily. D. Having’ difficulty in finding good content.
2. How did the app influence the author?
A. She became more creative. B. She became interested, in online stories.
C. She developed some new hobbies. D. She couldn’t focus on reading and writing.
3. What do we know about the author’s quitting the app?
A. She failed many times. B. She succeeded gradually.
C. She managed it overnight. D. She got help from her parents.
4. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To tell her story of using social media.
B. To show how she began to write again.
C. To show social media is a double edged sword.
D. To warn young people not to be addicted to social media.
【答案】1. A 2. D 3. B 4. D

Meat, milk, cheese — just some of the things provided by goats. But now we can also add fire safety to this list. As wildfires damage increasingly large areas of the planet each year, goatherds (牧羊人) may offer a way of reducing the risk.
Wildfires are made possible by hot, dry weather conditions as well as a supply of dead plants that serve as fuel. We may have limited control over the former factor, but we can control the latter. Reducing the fuel load lowers the possibility of wildfires occurring, as well as the amount of damage caused. This is where we can turn to goats to search for a solution, which are being used for landscape management in a number of places around the world, including Greece, Spain, Portugal, Chile and a number of parts of the United States.
Goats have an extremely powerful digestive (消化的) system. Many kinds of plants that are dangerous to other animals can be easily eaten by goats. It’s not just fully-grown plants that goats are able to deal with: any seeds that pass through a goat can’t survive and will not grow. Human clearance teams have to worry about getting to the hard-to-reach places where plants grow but goats don’t. They are skilled mountain climbers and when standing on their hind legs, they can reach up to two metres to the plants that humans would struggle to reach. Because of this, using goats can reduce both the possibility of workplace accidents and the amount of money spent on fire protection measures. Goatherds have been found to clear some parts of land for a third of the price of human control teams.
Cost and safety aren’t the only benefits. Goats are quieter than grass-cutting machines and people usually prefer to see goats eating grass rather than litres of herbicide (除草剂). Children are often attracted to see the goats at work and this provides an opportunity to educate people about preventing wildfires.
5. Why can goats help to prevent wildfires?
A. They are not afraid of bad weather. B. They are easily controlled by goatherds.
C. They have the strongest digestive system. D. They can remove dead plants causing fire.
6. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. The fire protection measures that people often take.
B. The reasons why goats are used to prevent wildfires.
C. The difficulty human clearance teams have preventing fire.
D. The effects goats have on the natural balance of mountains.
7. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Herbicide will not be used to remove grass soon.
B. Children like goats because of their quiet character.
C. It’s a green way to prevent wildfires by using goats.
D. Herbicide works better than grass-cutting machines.
8. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Firefighting Goats. B. Clever Goatherds.
C. Damage Caused by Wildfires. D. Ways to Prevent Disasters.
【答案】5. D 6. B 7. C 8. A

They are skilled mountain climbers and when standing on their hind legs, they can reach up to two metres to the plants that humans would struggle to reach. Because of this, using goats can reduce both the possibility of workplace accidents and the amount of money spent on fire protection measures. Goatherds have been found to clear some parts of land for a third of the price of human control teams.(山羊有非常强大的消化系统。

Frank Caprio is a well-known judge who has gained popularity for his caring and understanding approach in the courtroom. Born on November 23, 1936, Caprio serves as the Chief Judge of the Providence Municipal Court in Rhode Island, USA.
His trials have been turned into a television program called “Caught in Providence”, which airs on local Fox stations and presents his work.
Caprio’s decisions often reflect a mixture of legal strictness and human warmth. He is known for his merciful judgments and his ability to connect with the people before him. For instance, in one case, a 96-year-old man was brought before Caprio for speeding in a school zone. The elderly man explained that he was driving his 63-year-old son, who has cancer, to a blood test. After hearing the man’s story, Caprio responded with sympathy, highlighting the man’s dedication to his family at an advanced age.
Judge Caprio has been called “the warmest judge” by his admirers because of his way of handling justice. His trials prove that the law can be applied with understanding and mercy, which has made him a beloved figure both in the United States and around the world.
Another heartwarming example is that Caprio once canceled a double fine for a truck driver who hadn’t got a notice for a previous fine. After the case was dismissed, the driver shared that 20 years ago, as a lost teenager, Caprio had asked him about his future dreams during a trial, a question that marked a turning point in the driver’s life.
Caprio’s story is not just about his role as a judge but also about how a single kind act can affect someone’s life. His way of working as a judge shows that justice can be done with sympathy and that sometimes a kind word can change a person’s path for the better.
9. What makes Frank Caprio popular?
A. His appearances in a TV program.
B. His ability to solve complex legal cases.
C. His balance of mercy and justice in trials.
D. His strict legal decisions in the courtroom.
10. Which word can best describe Judge Caprio in dealing with the speeding case?
A. Flexible. B. Stubborn. C. Generous. D. Passionate.
11. What lasting impact did Judge Caprio have on the truck driver?
A. He taught the driver the importance of obeying traffic laws.
B. He inspired the driver to map out his future life path.
C. He eased the driver’s financial burden by canceling the fine.
D. He encouraged the driver to take responsibility for his actions.
12. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Life and Work of Frank Caprio

C. The Role of a Judge in the Courtroom
D. The Humanity of a Judge in the Courtroom
【答案】9. C 10. A 11. B 12. D

故选A项。

【答案】范文
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Today, I stand before you to share my view on the Internet.
The Internet, in my view, is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it offers unparalleled access to information, facilitates communication, and enhances education. We can learn anything, connect with anyone, and explore the world without leaving our homes. On the other hand, it can be a source of distraction, misinformation, and privacy breaches. Cyberbullying and online scams are real threats that we must be aware of.
As students, we should harness the Internet’s benefits while guarding against its pitfalls. We must be critical thinkers, verifying information before accepting it. We should also be mindful of our online behavior, respecting others’ privacy and contributing positively to the digital community.
In conclusion, the Internet is a powerful tool, and it is up to us to use it wisely.

Mr Smith, the headteacher, noticed his unhappiness. One Friday afternoon, the teacher approached him and said, “Tom, I’ve noticed that you’ve been a bit down lately. Is there anything wrong? Are you willing to share your feelings with me?” Hesitating for a moment, Tom sighed and said, “I just can’t fit in here. I miss my parents and old friends so much, and it seems that I have little in common with the classmates here.” They chatted for a long time that afternoon.
The next Monday, it was time for the class to change seats as usual and the headteacher asked Jack, an outgoing and helpful boy, to sit next to Tom. Jack said cheerfully, “I’d like to make friends with you.” Tom was amazed by Jack’s friendly offer, but soon felt a wave of warmth flowing through his heart. 高一期中检测考试英语试题
第一部分 阅读(共两节,满分42.5分)
第一节(共12小题;每小题2.5分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
I found a special app on my cellphone after I turned 15 and I fell in love with it immediately.
B
C

Jack immediately started a lively conversation, sharing his favorite hobbies and interesting experiences. Tom, who had been so lonely before, gradually found himself responding and opening up.
