Shanghai residents passing through the city’s eastern Huangpu District earlier this month might be surprised to catch an unusual sight: a “walking” building. An 85-year-old primary school has been lifted off the ground — in its entirety — and relocated using new technology called the “walking machine”.
In the city’s latest effort to preserve historic structures, engineers attached nearly 200 mobile supports under the five-storey building. The supports act like robotic legs. They’re split into two groups which alternately (交替地) rise up and down, imitating the human stride. Attached sensors help control how the building moves forward.
In recent decades, China’s rapid modernization has seen many historic buildings razed to clear land for grand skyscrapers and office buildings. But there has been growing concern about the architectural heritage lost as a result of tear-down across the country. Shanghai has arguably been China’s most progressive city when it comes to heritage preservation. The survival of a number of 1930s buildings in the famous Bund district and 19th-century “shikumen” (or “stone gate”) houses in the renovated Xintiandi neighborhood have offered examples of how to give old buildings new life. The city also has a track record of relocating old buildings. In 2018, the city relocated a 90-year-old building in Hongkou District, in what was then considered to be Shanghai’s most complex relocation project to date.
The Lagena Primary School, which weighs 7,600 tons, posed a new challenge — it’s T-shaped, whereas previously relocated structures were square or rectangular. Experts and technicians met to discuss possibilities and test a number of different technologies before deciding on the “walking machine”.
Citizens welcome and appreciate the efforts made by the municipal government to protect these old buildings. In their eyes, not only are the old buildings part of their memory but they also represent part of Shanghai’s history.
4. What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A. A “walking building” can often be seen in Shanghai.
B. The 85-year-old building is called “walking machine”.
C. The 85-year-old building is the first building to be relocated.
D. Engineers relocated the building without breaking it into parts.
5. Which are excluded from the project of relocating the building?
A. Mobile supports. B. Robotic legs.
C. Attached sensors. D. Technical engineers.
6. The author shows Shanghai’s success in protecting historic buildings by ______.
A. listing figures B. giving reasons
C. making comparisons D. providing examples
7. What is probably the best title for the passage?
A. Many old buildings in Shanghai have been relocated.
B. Shanghai is making great efforts to preserve old buildings.
C. A 5-storey building in Shanghai “walks” to a new location.
D. Citizens in Shanghai are shocked to see buildings relocated.
C
The “cobot,” or collaborative robot, is rapidly transforming the modern workplace. Unlike traditional industrial robots that operate in isolated (孤立的) cages for safety, cobots are designed to work alongside humans. Equipped with advanced sensors and safety features, they can detect human presence and adjust their movements to prevent accidents. This partnership is enhancing productivity and reshaping job roles.
In automotive assembly lines, cobots assist workers with repetitive, physically demanding tasks like lifting heavy parts. This reduces worker tiredness and the risk of injury. In electronics factories, their precision (精确度) is used for delicate tasks such as circuit board testing.
A common concern is that cobots will replace human workers. However, evidence suggests they are more likely to change the nature of work. As cobots handle the dull, dirty, and dangerous jobs, human workers are freed to focus on more complex tasks that require problem-solving, creativity, and emotional intelligence — skills that machines cannot copy.
The rise of cobots calls for a shift in the workforce’s skill set. There is a growing demand for employees who can program, manage, and maintain these advanced machines. This highlights the increasing importance of STEM education and continuous vocational training (职业培训) . This new strategy of human-robot cooperation (合作) is not about replacement, but about improving how we work together. The future lies in preparing the workforce for this new, collaborative environment.
8. What is special about the cobot described in the text?
A. It operates entirely independently of human workers.
B. It is designed for safe, direct cooperation with humans.
C. It is primarily intended for helping us with housework.
D. It is more powerful than traditional industrial robots.
9. According to the passage, a significant advantage of using cobots in production is that they can __________.
A. entirely take the place of the human workforce.
B. make creative decisions on the assembly line.
C. take over repetitive or physically challenging tasks.
D. be installed at a lower cost than ever before.
10. Why is it unnecessary to worry that robots will cause job loss?
A. Cobots will be limited to only a few specific industries.
B. Some human skills are very important and irreplaceable.
C. Governments will introduce a universal basic income.
D. Cobots are still not technologically advanced enough.
11. What can be inferred about the cobot era from the last paragraph?
A. Current education systems are fully prepared for the rise of cobots.
B. The value of repetitive and physically demanding work will increase.
C. Technological progress should slow down to protect traditional jobs.
D. Workers with technical and adaptive learning skills will be valued.
D
Short videos have become a major source of entertainment and information for teenagers worldwide. With just a few touches on the screen, viewers can enjoy endless content ranging from funny moments to learning materials. Yet recent psychological studies warn that long-hour exposure to short videos may be quietly damaging people’s ability to focus on demanding tasks.
Researchers carried out a study among 200 high school students. One group was asked to watch short videos for at least two hours a day for two weeks, while the other avoided such videos during the same period. Both groups then took tests that required continuous attention and deep thinking. Results showed that the short-video group scored significantly lower and took much longer to complete the tasks. They were easily distracted and often gave up halfway when facing difficult problems.
Scientists explain the reason. Short videos provide constant, instant satisfaction. Every 15 to 60 seconds, a new picture or idea appears, training the brain to seek quick fun instead of patience. Over time, this makes it harder for the brain to deal with slow-paced, complex activities. Such a change may impair one’s ability to concentrate and think deeply.
The study does not suggest that short videos are completely bad. Used properly, they can bring knowledge and relaxation. However, students are advised to control viewing time and actively exercise their focus by reading, studying or doing creative hobbies. Finding a balance between digital fun and meaningful work is the key to keeping a sharp and healthy mind.
12. What is the public’s general view on short videos according to Paragraph 1?
A. They harm students’ mental health. B. They are convenient and widely welcomed.
C. They improve problem-solving skills. D. They reduce independent thinking ability.
13. What can be inferred from the study results?
A. Regular short-video watchers may become less patient.
B. All students are easily distracted by digital media.
C. Deep thinking can hardly be improved in daily life.
D. Short videos should be totally banned on campus.
14. What does the underlined word “impair” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A. weaken B. improve C. replace D. reflect
15. What is the author’s attitude towards short videos?
A. Supportive B. Unconcerned C. Objective D. Doubtful
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Music influences your emotions. In turn, your emotions influence your behavior. One of these is your food intake. ____16____ What does science say about this subject?
Researchers at the University of Arkansas studied how music influences people when they eat in a restaurant. For the study, they used four types of music: jazz, classical, rock, and hip-hop. Their results showed that people had more appetite when they listened to jazz music while they ate. ____17____ This has a lot to do with emotions. For instance, when you listen to music with harmonic rhythms like jazz, you feel happier. This increases your appetite.
However, another study published in Psychological Reports suggests it isn’t only increased appetite that causes people to eat more. ____18____ A more stimuli-filled environment makes you eat more. In fact, they tend to urge you on to eat and even “encourage” you to eat faster. On the other hand, if the atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed, you’re likely to feel more relaxed and spend more time enjoying yourself. For this reason, you’ll tend to eat less.
Besides, the study conducted by the Journal of the Academy suggests that the volume of music can also have an effect on how you eat. More specifically, the study states that, with low-volume music, you eat better because you make healthier choices. On the other hand, the study claims that music at high volume increases stimulation and stress. ____19____
For this reason, restaurants should consider the fact when thinking about the optimization of their products and services. ____20____ They equip themselves with the technology needed to provide memorable experiences through music, greatly strengthening their relationship with the customer.
A. Does music influence how you eat?
B. Being in a rush to eat also plays a part.
C. Does your emotion boost your appetite?
D. However, they had less appetite when listening to hip-hop.
E. In fact, many catering establishments have already taken action.
F. This could prove to be quite an interesting concept for restaurants.
G. This means you’re more likely to order comfort food or other unhealthy options.

第二节 读后续写 (满分25分)
52. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The final exam bell rang as I sat in my usual seat. Sunlight streamed through the windows, lighting up Lily’s pencil box. The words “Honor First, Victory (胜利) Follows” shone like gold. These words had always been our belief. We’d been study partners since high school started, sharing sandwiches and celebrating tests under the old oak tree in the courtyard.
I was busy with my exam when her strawberry-shaped eraser, a gift from me last birthday, which once saw our late-night study, rolled near my math paper. Just one seat away, Lily took a deep breath. Her eyes darted (来回扫视) between the teacher and a folded paper in her grey sweater sleeve. It seemed that the words on the note she prepared beforehand had become unclear. So, Lily tapped my knee with her foot—our silent signal from soccer practices, then pushed another paper with several words toward me. Its edge caught the light, sharp and bright.
Raising my head, I saw Teacher Rivera pacing between desks, her glasses sliding down her nose. Out of nervousness, I felt my mouth dry. My pencil slipped from my sweaty fingers, dropping to the floor. The clock ticked loudly. Twenty minutes left, each second heavier.
The room was silent except for the clock. Telling on (告发) Lily meant losing three years of memories: movie nights, soccer games, and the snowy morning she brought me homework. Staying silent would break our promise of honesty. A fly buzzed against the window, like my thoughts.
I remembered a soccer game in the rain. Lily fell in the mud. “Honor first!” she said, refusing my help as she got up with bleeding elbows. Now her shoe pushed the paper closer. Her eyes begged through her hair.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
With fifteen minutes left, I knew I had to make a choice.

【答案】Dear Chris,
I’m writing to share with you my participation in a one-day spring outing organized by my school last Friday. It was a rare chance for us to get close to nature.
We gathered at school at 8 a.m. and took a bus to a forest park. We hiked through the forest observed and photographed a variety of wildlife there. At noon, we had a picnic lunch. Over lunch, my classmates and I played fun games like drawing and riddle guessing, which made everyone laugh. In the afternoon, the teacher taught us some survival skills, such as how to avoid getting lost in the forest and rescue ourselves.
Not only did the experience enrich our out-of-school life, but also built up our body and shape our character. We are expecting the next opportunity.
Yours,
Li Hua

【答案】范文
With fifteen minutes left, I knew I had to make a choice. I took a deep breath and gently pushed the paper back toward Lily. Her eyes widened in surprise. I gave her a smile and pointed to the words on her pencil box: ”Honor First, Victory Follows.” Lily’s face flushed. She nodded, stepped on the paper and paid no attention to it anymore. Together, we focused on the remaining questions, using our brains instead of notes. The last few minutes were tense, but we felt a new sense of teamwork. When the bell finally rang, we handed in our papers, looking at each other with relief.
After the exam, Lily and I sat in silence under the old oak tree. The sunlight streamed through the leaves, casting shadows on our faces. After what seemed a century, I broke the silence and explained, “We promised to be honest, so...” Lily nodded, tears in her eyes. “I know. I was just so scared of failing.” We hugged tightly, knowing our bond was stronger than any test score. The oak tree’s leaves rustled above us, as if cheering us on. From then on, we studied even harder, facing challenges together with honesty and courage.
