far和much都不能直接修饰good。
He sat down…

not only...but (also)...

Have you ever thought that dogs might know when people are stressed? Scientists in Ireland did an experiment (实验). It showed that dogs can tell the difference between the smell of people when they’re relaxed and when they’re stressed.
People have long known that dogs have a great sense of smell. But scientists weren’t sure whether (是否) stressed people had a special smell. And if they did, scientists weren’t sure whether dogs could detect (发现) that smell. It turns out that the answer to both questions is “yes”.
All day long, our bodies go through changes and produce different chemicals. These chemicals (化学物质) come out in our breath and sweat (汗), changing the way we smell. So the scientists collected breath and sweat samples (样本) from different people. They got samples when the people were calm and also when they were stressed. The calm part was easy, but to stress people out, the scientists asked people to work out a really difficult math problem in their heads quickly. They kept telling the people to hurry up and didn’t give them any help. That lasted for three minutes.
Then came the challenge. The dogs had three choices: a calm sample from a person, a stressed sample from that same person, and a clean piece of cloth. In all, the dogs did 720 of these tests. They correctly detected the stressed sample about 94% of the time.
The results make it clear that stress does have a smell that dogs can detect.
24. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By explaining an idea. B. By asking a question.
C. By telling a story. D. By listing some numbers.
25. What do the underlined words “both questions” refer to?
① Do dogs have a great sense of smell?
② Do stressed people have a special smell?
③ Can dogs tell whether a person is relaxed or stressed?
④ Can dogs help people feel less stressed?
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ②④ D. ①③
26. How many times did the dogs correctly find the stressed sample in the experiment?
A. About 94. B. About 44. C. About 720. D. About 677.
27. Which is the best title of the passage?
A. Why are Dogs Smarter than People Think?
B. Dogs can Do Experiments with People
C. Scientists Learnt that Dogs Can Smell Stress
D. How Do People Get Over Stress in Their Life?
B 25. B 26. D 27. C
第一段第一句“Have you ever thought that dogs might know when people are stressed? ”说明作者是通过提出一个问题来开始这篇文章的。
【25题详解】
第二段“But scientists weren’t sure whether stressed people had a special smell. And if they did, scientists weren’t sure whether dogs could detect that smell.”
第四段“In all, the dogs did 720 of these tests. They correctly detected the stressed sample about 94% of the time.”
最后一段“The results make it clear that stress does have a smell that dogs can detect.” C“Scientists Learnt that Dogs Can Smell Stress”是最佳标题。
C
Monday mornings were a terrible thing for Tom. They always meant one thing: a new week of school; and Tom hated school. This morning, he thought about how he might avoid going to class. Then an idea came to him.
“Oh! Sid!” he cried, “Oh, it hurts! I think I’m dying, Sid!” Sid, who was already up and dressing for school, stopped what he was doing, and ran over to Tom’s bed.
“What’s wrong, Tom? What is it?”
“Don’t come closer, Sid! You might get sick too! And Sid, I want you to know that I don’t care about the bad things you’ve done to me all these years. So, when I die, you don’t have to feel bad. Oh! The pain! Ohhhh…”
Sid quickly ran downstairs.
“Aunt Polly! Aunt Polly! Tom’s dying! Quick! Help him! Do something!”
Aunt Polly dropped everything and ran up to Tom’s room as fast as she could.
“What is it, Tom? What’s wrong?” she asked with a shaking (颤抖的) voice.
“Oh, Aunt Polly, it’s —”, he had to think for a moment, “It’s my toe (脚趾)! It hurts!”
Aunt Polly fell into a chair next to the bed and started to laugh, then to cry, and then both at the same time.
“Tom! You had me so worried!” she said. “Well, you’re not going to die from a sore toe! Get up and get ready for school!”
“But what about my tooth? I think it’s loose (松动的)!” said Tom.
“That won’t kill you either! But let me take a look. Open your mouth. Well, your tooth is loose. Mary! Bring me some string (线) and a piece of burning wood from the stove!”
“Please, Aunt Polly! Don’t pull out my tooth! I’m feeling much better now. See? I can get up and go to school after all!”
“Sit down, boy! You will go to school, but that tooth is going to be pulled first.”

Nowadays, smart home devices (设备) have become a popular choice for more and more people. They allow people to manage their homes from anywhere, making life more convenient and enjoyable. However, they also come with safety risks that you may not notice.
Some smart home devices are often rushed to the market, without enough safety testing. As a result, some baby monitors (监视器) and cameras have been hacked (非法入侵), so hackers (黑客) could spy on others and even control their devices. Many experts believe that with smart home devices, you shouldn’t ask “if” they will be hacked, but “when”, because many of these devices are easy to hack and don’t have strong protection.
If hackers break into your devices, they could get your Wi-Fi password (密码) or other saved personal information. Criminals (犯罪分子) might monitor your device activity to find out when you get up, when you’re not at home, when you come back from work and so on. What’s more, many people control their smart devices through smartphones, which means some important personal information could be at risk.
Although the risks of smart home devices might sound scary, there are several ways to stay safe. One of the easiest ways is to keep devices updated (更新). Companies often put out new versions (版本) to replace the old ones, so be sure to update your systems regularly.
Another important way is to protect your network. Use a strong Wi-Fi password, turn on network encryption (加密), and consider setting up a guest network for your smart devices. This will help stop strangers from visiting your network and devices.
32. Many people use smart home devices because ________.
A. they are easy to buy B. they make homes more modern
C. they make their lives easier to manage D. they are very safe to use
33. Which sentence uses “ spy” the same way as the underlined word?
spy /spaɪ/ ① v.
A. His task was to spy on an important person.
B. I hope one day there will be no spy in our country.
C. He was walking down the street when he spied an old friend.
D. In the distance we spied the Pacific Ocean for the first time.
34. What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The dangers of using smart home devices.
B. How hackers break into your computers.
C. Why smart home devices are expensive.
D. How to keep your smart devices safe.
35. What is the structure of this passage?
A. B. C. D.
C 33. A 34. A 35. B

At night, you fall asleep while listening to beautiful music. In the morning, you are woken up by the singing of birds outside. You can enjoy all of these things because of one important organ — the ears. March 3 is Ear Care Day. It helps us remember the importance of our ears and reminds us to take good care of them.
You may wonder: How do the ears work? The ear has three different parts: the outer ear, the middle ear and the inner ear. The outer ear is the part you can see. It collects sound around you. The sound then travels down to the middle ear, the inner ear and then to your brain.
Your ears never stop working, even when you are asleep! Your ears continue hearing sounds, but your brain just doesn’t notice them. That’s why you may sometimes wake up suddenly in the middle of the night — your brain heard something, but you don’t know what it was, because you were asleep.
But ears do more than hear. They are of great use for keeping your balance, too. In the inner ear, there are organs that are filled with liquid (液体) and covered with small hairs. When you move your head, the liquid and hairs move, too. They send messages to your brain about the movement of your head.
More surprisingly, ears even help in tasting food. Of course, you don’t actually taste food with your ears. But there are nerves (神经) running through the middle ear that connect the tongue to the brain. If something happens to your ears, you may have a hard time telling different flavors (滋味) apart.
The ears are truly important organs with many functions (功能). Everyone should make sure to protect their own ears as well as they can.
Do you know the functions of ears? First, ears have three different parts. They can ____50____. And when you are asleep, ____51____. Besides, ears are ____52____ when you keep balance and taste food. In a word, ____53____.
50. hear sounds
51. ears continue hearing but brain doesn’t 52. useful
53. we should protect our ears
根据题干“Do you know the functions of ears?”
根据第三段“Your ears continue hearing sounds, but your brain just doesn’t notice them.”,人们睡觉时,耳朵继续听声音,但是大脑并没有注意到它们。continue doing sth.“继续做某事”。
根据第四段“They are of great use for keeping your balance, too.”和第五段“More surprisingly, ears even help in tasting food.”,耳朵在保持平衡和帮助品尝食物方面也是有用的。
根据最后一段“Everyone should make sure to protect their own ears as well as they can.”,总结全文,我们应该保护耳朵。

Dear Mike,
I’m sorry to hear that you have a problem with your classmate Jack. I totally understand how you feel. Here is some advice for you.
First, you should have a talk with Jack. Tell him that playing online games too much is bad for his health and study. Second, you can’t let him copy your homework. You can tell him that it won’t help him learn anything. Instead, you can offer to help him with his schoolwork. Third, if he still gets angry with you, you'd better ask your teachers for help. They can communicate with him and give him some useful guidance.
I hope things will get better soon.
Yours,
Sunny

A. ①② B. ②③ C. ②④ D. ①③

A. About 94. B. About 44. C. About 720. D. About 677.
27. Which is the best title of the passage?
A. Why are Dogs Smarter than People Think?
B. Dogs can Do Experiments with People
C. Scientists Learnt that Dogs Can Smell Stress
D. How Do People Get Over Stress in Their Life?
