movies.Asir also uses similar physical movements. He performs on the streets and at events in the
capital of Afghanistan,Kabul.
Afghanistan has dealt with many years of war and widespread destruction brought by attacks.
The 25-year-old actor says his goal is to use humour to help take people's minds off the difficulties
they face every day."It is very simple.I want to give Afghans a reason to smile,"he said.

Over the years, movies and books have used tornadoes to sweep their characters off to magical
lands,to destroy entire cities,or to defeat a superhero's dangerous super villain ()All of these
tornadoes have one thing in common:They are incredibly powerful. They can have wind speeds
over 300 miles per hour (mph),grow over a mile wide, and travel over 50 miles. They are
incredibly dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.
Scientists can't go inside tornadoes, which means that they are extremely hard to research. As a
result,we know surprisingly little about them.In order to tell how powerful a tornado is,scientists
look at how much destruction it causes.Scientists then rank the tornado on the Enhanced Fujita
Scale ()(EF-Scale),which ranges from EFO to EF5.For example,a tornado that only damages
trees but doesn't significantly damage buildings would be rated EFO with wind speeds between 65
and 85 mph.A tornado that blows away buildings and tears up sidewalks,on the other hand, would
be rated EF5 with wind speeds over 200 mph.
The most powerful tornado in United States history occurred near Oklahoma City in1999.It
had wind speeds over 310 mph,the highest wind speed ever recorded on Earth.A tornado with wind
speeds that high can not only pick up and throw automobiles, but also knock over trains and tear up
roadways.
Luckily for anyone living in an area that experiences the occasional tornadoes, they usually
only last one to ten minutes.More powerful tornadoes can last over an hour in the right conditions,
but they are very rare.
If you find yourself experiencing a tornado, find a safe place inside, like an interior hall,
basement or closet.Stay away from windows and heavy objects that could fall on you,and lie on
your stomach with your hands protecting the back of your head.Having a tornado emergency plan
is extremely important as tornadoes can appear very quickly.Make sure to listen to the radio or
television to stay updated on serious weather patterns in your area.
28.Which of the following is probably the wind speed of an EF4 tornado?
A.65 mph.
B.85 mph.
C.200 mph.
D.310 mph.
29.What can we learn from the example given in paragraph 3?
A.Tornadoes can do great harm.
B.American cars need developing.

D.The strongest tornado occurred in the UK.
30.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.What a tornado is.
B.How a tornado forms.
C.Tips to survive a tornado.
D.How to recognize a tornado
31.Where is the text most probably taken from?

Research has shown that listening to music while showering, taking a walk or travelling to
school could affect your ability to think outside the box and come up with artistic or creative things
to do.Experts say being bored can lead to daydreaming plus the birth of new ideas.
While there is nothing wrong with listening to music, doing so when taking a shower or going
for a walk takes away time that could be spent thinking about yourself and your life-the perfect
time to let your creative juices flow.Happiness expert Gretchen Rubin said,"You need this
open-searching time in order for new ideas to spring up.This is why people get ideas in the shower
or in the middle of the night-it's a period of time when the brain creates its own fun. It's when I'm
bored that I have big insights because my brain is open and trying to entertain itself."
A recent study by psychologists showed the same process at work.In the research, two groups
of people were expected to come up with proposals. They were then asked to complete the task in
two backgrounds. One is in a quiet room while the other is with music playing.Researchers found,
compared to participants who completed tasks in a quiet background, participants who listened to
music performed less creatively.
So,is it best to throw away the bath-time tunes? Most people said the research was a real mood
killer. One said,"Sometimes,I need the music to cover all the thoughts I don't want to think."
Another commented,"Many people have too much going on in their heads. That's why they listen
to music in the shower,by which they can actually relax."But other listeners said they liked having
quiet time while travelling home at the end of the day.
In any case, striking a good balance and listening to music sometimes but being quiet at other
times could be the best balance in our life.
32.What do the experts find according to the first paragraph?
A.Keeping our minds busy brings in new ideas.
B.Listening to music helps to bring inspiration
C.Taking a walk keeps us from daydreaming.
D.Feeling bored tends to stir up our creativity.
33.How does the psychologists do the research?
A.By observing through daily life.
B.By referring to former reports.
C.
By carrying out an experiment.
D.By filling up a questionnaire.
34.How do most people find the result of the research?
A.Unacceptable.
B.Misleading.
C.Confusing.
D.Convincing.
35.What is the best title for the text?
A.Does your playlist really appeal to you?
B.Is it time to throw away your playlist?
C.Listening to music keeps us mentally fit
D.Being quiet is always a good habit for us
When we are kids,we laugh a lot.But as we become adults,it is much more difficult to laugh
so easily.Do you laugh too little in your life?Do you remember how you used to laugh before,as a
child?
36
_It's a great way to relax,not just on a purely emotional level,but also physically.It
can reduce our blood pressure. It also contributes to the release of hormones (that are good
for our health.37.It helps us feel more at ease around new people and also connects us with
others.
Sometimes you might feel like there is not much cause to laugh.Life can be tough. But

Oh no.Coach Cafferty just said my name-for the event. The one-kilometer bicycle race for
the upcoming sports meeting! Not the event I had wished and practiced for so long!
Beads of sweat popped out over my upper lip.Morgan,my best friend and fellow cyclist,
pressed her elbow into my side, trying to offer some moral support. But even her encouragement
didn't help this time.My stomach felt like it was sinking into my knees, heavy and tense.
Morgan tried to convince me it would be fine."Maybe Coach has more confidence in you than
you think.""Or maybe Coach Cafferty just wants to give the rest a laugh when I struggle through
the track,"I thought desperately.I walked toward Coach Cafferty and told her about my worries and
my desire to quit this event. She frowned and asked if that was what I really wanted.I hesitated. She
smiled and urged me to go practice as much as possible.
The first practice was a disaster.I misjudged my speed,my legs burned halfway through the lap,
and I even had to stop to catch my breath.A kilometer had never felt so long.I felt like everyone
was watching, maybe even laughing at my attempts, and my stomach twisted with embarrassment.
How could I get this right in just two weeks? But when I finally climbed off the bike, exhausted and
frustrated,I spotted Coach Cafferty smiling at me.Even with only two weeks to prepare,I pushed
myself to practice every single day. Each session,my legs felt a little stronger, and my speed
improved bit by bit.Slowly, the kilometer didn't seem as impossible as it had at first.
Finally, the big day came. The whistle blew, and we were off.I pushed down hard on the pedals,
launching myself forward

Yesterday, our class had a discussion on whether reading a book is better than listening to it and opinions divide.
Some students hold the view that reading a book is better in that they can stop wherever they need to digest or reflect on the material or write down important points for subsequent review. Also, the scent of the ink will intrigue them into the magical world of books, spiritually satisfied.
However, others argue that listening to a book can take place anytime and anyplace, which saves them the trouble of carrying books wherever they go. And listening to a book can more easily get them immersed in what the speaker is saying.
I think we should deal with serious books by reading, and books for relaxation can be done by listening.
Yesterday, our class had a discussion on whether reading a book is better than listening to it and opinions divide.
Some students consider it better to read a book. It helps them better digest the information in it and more easily turn the pages back and forth to review points. However others disagree. They think listening to books is more convenient, as they can do it anytime and anywhere. Moreover, they can do other stuff while listening.
Personally, both methods have strengths and weaknesses. As students, we should read the books related to our lessons and listen to other books for relaxation.
第二节
My legs felt strong at first, but halfway the familiar burn came back. I gritted my teeth and pushed through the pain, remembering all the hard work and determination that had brought me to this point. The cheers from the crowd seemed to grow louder, giving me an unexpected boost of energy. I focused on my breathing, in and out, and kept my eyes fixed on the track ahead. As I rounded the final turn, I could see the finish line just a few meters away. With every last bit of strength, I sprinted toward it, crossing the line with a burst of speed. The moment I stopped, I was overwhelmed with a mix of relief and pride. I had done it—I had completed the one-kilometer race, and to my surprise, I had even managed to place among the top competitors.
Holding the trophy in my hand, I heard someone call my name. It was Coach Cafferty, her face beaming with pride. “You did it!” she exclaimed, giving me a warm and encouraging hug. “I knew you had it in you.” Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized how far I had come. Morgan rushed over, her arms wide open, and we embraced, both of us laughing and crying at the same time. The sense of accomplishment was overwhelming, and I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, I had the strength and perseverance to overcome them. This race had not only given me a trophy but also a newfound confidence and a belief in myself that would stay with me for years to come.

We’ll walk from Wednesday to Friday through the beautiful scenery of the Spanish Pyrenees. The route will take us through a variety of landscapes: first we’ll follow an amazing path along the coast. Then we’ll head away from the coast and walk through hills and forest. We will walk about 15 kilometers per day. It should take us about six to seven hours. Each day’s walking will start from one hotel and finish at the next hotel on the route. We’ll walk at a leisurely speed, so this challenge is no problem if you’re a fit and active person. Previous experience is useful, but it’s not absolutely necessary. We will have an experienced leader who’s fully trained and knows the route.
What will you need to take? The most important item you’ll need is good walking boots. You should buy them well in advance to make sure they fit well. You’ll need a waterproof jacket to keep you dry and warm and walking shorts are a good idea. You will also need a small backpack to carry your lunch and a water bottle.

56.was employed 57.to hold 58.ambitious 59.the 60.medals 61.running 62.that 63.to 64.have put 65.brighter
故填was employed。
故填to hold。
故填the。
分析句子结构可知,此处为强调句型“it was…that/who…”,强调的是时间状语at that time,用that。故填that。
故填to。
故填have put。

Some of the Most Beautiful National Parks in the UK
Snowdonia
North Wales's national park boasts mountain and sea views:Several of its peaks gaze across to Ireland and it has miles of sandy beaches. You can climb Wales's highest mountain without working up a sweat by catching an old-fashioned train. Those who dislike excitement can choose zip lines, bounce down mountain bike trails or catch breaks at an inland surfing.
Cairngorms
The UK's biggest national park is home to its mightiest mountains:Five out of six of Scotland's highest peaks are found here. Lying in the heart of the Highlands, the Cairngorms mountain range still has vast areas of pure wilderness and is one of the chilliest places in the country. For much of the year, its peaks are blanketed in snow and you can ski there in winter.
Peak District
Sandwiched between Manchester and Sheffield,England's oldest national park has two personalities:A tough and a gentle side.In the north are dramatic edges like Kinder Scout which rewards adventurous walkers with stark (荒凉的) views.Venture south for the lower,greener,grass-covered valleys of the White Peak.Walk along the Ecclesbourne Valley to experience both in one day.
New Forest
The New Forest is surprisingly old:William the Conqueror named it when he used to hunt deer and wild pigs here nearly 1,000 years ago. Confusingly, this beautiful corner of southern England isn't completely covered in woodland either—it also has acres of wild land and miles of pebbly (布满鹅卵石的),muddy coast. The terrain is gentle, and you're guaranteed a sighting of its free-walking horses.
21. How can visitors climb Wales's highest mountain without sweating? ______
A. By taking a cable car. B. By riding a bike.
C. By taking a train. D. By traveling in a plane.
22. What do we know about Peak District? ______
A. It is a good habitat for horses. B. It offers visitors two totally different views.
C. It is a newly-built national park in England. D. Its name was given by William the Conqueror.
23. What's special about New Forest? ______
A. It has a long history. B. It is completely covered by grass.
C. Visitors can hunt wild horses there. D. It's the biggest national park in the UK.

Afghanistan has its own version of the famous British comedy actor Charlie Chaplin.
His name is Karim Asir. He wears make- up and clothes to look like Charlie Chaplin in his movies. Asir also uses similar physical movements. He performs on the streets and at events in the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul.
Afghanistan has dealt with many years of war and widespread destruction brought by attacks. The 25- year- old actor says his goal is to use humour to help take people’s minds off the difficulties they face every day. “It is very simple. I want to give Afghans a reason to smile,” he said.
Charlie Chaplin rose to fame during the silent film age of the 1920s. His movies became popular around the world. When young Asir and his family escaped to Iran in 1996, he watched Chaplin’s movies on television and became fond of the actor and the characters he played. One of the characters impressed Asir most was a funny- looking man known as the Little Tramp. This character had no money and was always getting into trouble. The creative method he used to get out of trouble was always being humorous.
After returning to Afghanistan, Asir started wearing make- up and recreating Chaplin’s characters. He performs in public parks, homes for needy youth, as well as private parties and international aid agency events.
“I want to give my people a chance to forget their problems such as war, conflicts, and insecurity,” he said.
To do this, he keeps smiling while performing around the city and meeting with fans, but Asir says that inside, he cannot help but feel fearful about possible attacks.
“I am afraid of getting attacked, but these issues cannot stop me from being Charlie Chaplin,” he said.
24. What does Asir want to do by using humour?
A. To make himself look like Chaplin.
B. To make people laugh and be happy.
C. To earn money and support his family.
D. To encourage people to face their difficulties.
25. Which of the following is true about Asir?
A. Asir got to know Chaplin at the age of 25.
B. Asir wanted to be an actor when he was a child.
C. Asir began to perform after returning from Iran.
D. Asir played the Little Tramp and became popular.
26. What did Asir concern about while performing?
A. People may not like his performance.
B. He may encounter with dangerous attacks.
C. He might make mistakes in his performance.
D. People might feel afraid of being out in public.
27. What is the best title of this article?
A. Afghanistan: War and Peace
B. The Challenges of Being an Actor
C. The Story of the Afghan Charlie Chaplin
D. Charlie Chaplin: The World’s Greatest Comedian

Over the years, movies and books have used tornadoes to sweep their characters off to magical lands, to destroy entire cities, or to defeat a superhero’s dangerous super villain (恶棍). All of these tornadoes have one thing in common: They are incredibly powerful. They can have wind speeds over 300 miles per hour (mph), grow over a mile wide, and travel over 50 miles. They are incredibly dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.
Scientists can’t go inside tornadoes, which means that they are extremely hard to research. As a result, we know surprisingly little about them. In order to tell how powerful a tornado is, scientists look at how much destruction it causes. Scientists then rank the tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale (级别) (EF-Scale), which ranges from EF0 to EF5. For example, a tornado that only damages trees but doesn’t significantly damage buildings would be rated EFO with wind speeds between 65 and 85 mph. A tornado that blows away buildings and tears up sidewalks, on the other hand, would be rated EF5 with wind speeds over 200 mph.
The most powerful tornado in United States history occurred near Oklahoma City in1999. It had wind speeds over 310 mph, the highest wind speed ever recorded on Earth. A tornado with wind speeds that high can not only pick up and throw automobiles, but also knock over trains and tear up roadways.
Luckily for anyone living in an area that experiences the occasional tornadoes, they usually only last one to ten minutes. More powerful tornadoes can last over an hour in the right conditions, but they are very rare.
If you find yourself experiencing a tornado, find a safe place inside, like an interior hall, basement or closet. Stay away from windows and heavy objects that could fall on you, and lie on your stomach with your hands protecting the back of your head. Having a tornado emergency plan is extremely important as tornadoes can appear very quickly. Make sure to listen to the radio or television to stay updated on serious weather patterns in your area.

Research has shown that listening to music while showering, taking a walk or travelling to school could affect your ability to think outside the box and come up with artistic or creative things to do. Experts say being bored can lead to daydreaming plus the birth of new ideas.
While there is nothing wrong with listening to music, doing so when taking a shower or going for a walk takes away time that could be spent thinking about yourself and your life—the perfect time to let your creative juices flow. Happiness expert Gretchen Rubin said, “You need this open-searching time in order for new ideas to spring up. This is why people get ideas in the shower or in the middle of the night—it’s a period of time when the brain creates its own fun. It’s when I’m bored that I have big insights because my brain is open and trying to entertain itself.”
A recent study by psychologists showed the same process at work. In the research, two groups of people were expected to come up with proposals. They were then asked to complete the task in two backgrounds. One is in a quiet room while the other is with music playing. Researchers found, compared to participants who completed tasks in a quiet background, participants who listened to music performed less creatively.
So, is it best to throw away the bath-time tunes? Most people said the research was a real mood killer. One said, “Sometimes, I need the music to cover all the thoughts I don’t want to think.” Another commented, “Many people have too much going on in their heads. That’s why they listen to music in the shower, by which they can actually relax.” But other listeners said they liked having quiet time while travelling home at the end of the day.
In any case, striking a good balance and listening to music sometimes but being quiet at other times could be the best balance in our life.

33.How does the psychologists do the research?
A.By observing through daily life.
B.By referring to former reports.
C.By carrying out an experiment.
D.By filling up a questionnaire.
34.How do most people find the result of the research?
A.Unacceptable. B.Misleading. C.Confusing. D.Convincing.
35.What is the best title for the text?

Oh no. Coach Cafferty just said my name—for the event. The one-kilometer bicycle race for the upcoming sports meeting! Not the event I had wished and practiced for so long!
Beads of sweat popped out over my upper lip. Morgan, my best friend and fellow cyclist, pressed her elbow into my side, trying to offer some moral support. But even her encouragement didn’t help this time. My stomach felt like it was sinking into my knees, heavy and tense.
Morgan tried to convince me it would be fine. “Maybe Coach has more confidence in you than you think.” “Or maybe Coach Cafferty just wants to give the rest a laugh when I struggle through the track,” I thought desperately. I walked toward Coach Cafferty and told her about my worries and my desire to quit this event. She frowned and asked if that was what I really wanted. I hesitated. She smiled and urged me to go practice as much as possible.
The first practice was a disaster. I misjudged my speed, my legs burned halfway through the lap, and I even had to stop to catch my breath. A kilometer had never felt so long. I felt like everyone was watching, maybe even laughing at my attempts, and my stomach twisted with embarrassment. How could I get this right in just two weeks? But when I finally climbed off the bike, exhausted and frustrated, I spotted Coach Cafferty smiling at me. Even with only two weeks to prepare, I pushed myself to practice every single day. Each session, my legs felt a little stronger, and my speed improved bit by bit. Slowly, the kilometer didn’t seem as impossible as it had at first.
Finally, the big day came. The whistle blew, and we were off. I pushed down hard on the pedals, launching myself forward.
