Five middle school students, all wearing “I choose kindness” T-shirts, sat around a table discussing how to turn that message into action.
It was a class called “Ready, Set, Give!” at West Suburban Summer School, Minnesota, US. For five days, from 8:30 am to 4 pm, Hannah, Annette, Adelaide, Allison and Ben designed activities that could bring more positive energy into the world.
They learned a lot about service projects. For example, after hearing about “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon”, a program that provides care to soldiers, the students made cards for soldiers themselves. They filled care packages (爱心包裹) with nuts, beef jerky (牛肉干), toothbrushes and even air fresheners (空气清新剂).
The best part, though, was choosing their own service projects. Adelaide is planning to set up a lemonade stand (柠檬汁小摊) to help the homeless. Annette is interested in protecting animals. She plans to create posters to help people understand the dangers of ocean litter, pesticides (杀虫剂) and pollution. Hannah and Allison are focusing on protecting the rights and health of young people. Ben wants to help people do a better job of recycling plastic.
The students also visited Prism, a social service agency in Minnesota. They worked for five hours, sorting donations (整理捐赠物), putting food on the shelves and doing some cleaning.
Sarah Bailey, the activity’s organizer, is confident that the students’ projects will be successful.
“These guys are ready to take action,” Bailey said. “It’s more than I hoped for.”
4. What did the five students do in the “Ready, Set, Give!” class?
A. They learned to design new T-shirts.
B. They planned activities to spread positive energy.
C. They sold cards to raise money for people in need
5. What was the best part of the class?
A. Picking their own volunteer service projects.
B. Making care cards and packages for soldiers.
C. Cleaning up city parks and streets around the school.
6. Which picture shows Adelaide’s service project?
A. B. C.
7. What does the underlined sentence “It’s more than I hoped for” mean?
A. Bailey is not satisfied with the students’ projects.
B. Bailey hopes the students will do more work later.
C. Bailey thinks the students did better than she expected.
B 5. A 6. B 7. C
第二段明确写道:“...students designed activities that could bring more positive energy into the world.”(学生们设计了能为世界带来更多正能量的活动。)
第四段首句:“The best part, though, was choosing their own service projects.”(然而,最好的部分是选择他们自己的服务项目。)
第四段提到:“Adelaide is planning to set up a lemonade stand to help the homeless.”(Adelaide计划设立一个柠檬汁小摊来帮助无家可归的人。)
最后一段Bailey说:“These guys are ready to take action. It’s more than I hoped for.”(这些孩子已经准备好采取行动。 “more than I hoped for”意为“比我希望的还要多”,即学生们做得比她预期的要好。

Science can help us better understand the world and develop our creativity. To bring students closer to science, a great science fair was held in Gaston County, North Carolina, US. 265 students from about 130 schools attended this event, according to a local newspaper. It offered a good chance for young students to turn their creative thoughts into real works.
Amy Page was a student from Stanley Middle School. She was crazy about rocket launching (发射). For the competition, she tried many soft protective materials. Finally, she built a rocket with foam padding (泡沫填充物) and a parachute (降落伞). She also put an egg inside the rocket. She planned to check whether the egg would remain safe when the rocket landed on the ground.
The rocket rose more than 600 feet, around 183 meters, into the air. A powerful engine and a well-designed rail system (轨道系统) kept the rocket steady when it was sent into the air. Amy tried the experiment (实验) three times, and the egg stayed unbroken every time. She explained that the soft materials and the parachute slowed down the falling speed and protected the egg well. “The egg is safe, and it shows that my rocket is successful,” said Amy.
The fair announced winners every day. Lots of projects were finished in teams. Students from every grade won prizes in seven different categories (类别).
“The fair was both meaningful and fun,” said Frank, a science teacher in Amy’s school. “Students not only learned new knowledge but also showed their creativity in amazing ways. We hope more students will take an interest in science and take part in such wonderful activities in the future.”
8. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. The world. B. The science fair. C. The newspaper.
9. Why did Amy put an egg in her rocket?
A. To make her rocket heavier.
B. To see how far the rocket could fly.
C. To show that her rocket could land safely.
10. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Frank praised the science fair.
B. All science projects were finished alone.
C. Amy’s rocket failed in this science fair.
11. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. It asks students to join in this science fair.
B. It tells us a student’s great rocket project.
C. It introduces a science fair and its great value.
B 9. C 10. A 11. C

根据第一段第二句“a great science fair was held ... It offered a good chance ...” 代词“It”指代前文提到的单数名词短语“a great science fair”。
根据第二段最后一句“She planned to check whether the egg would remain safe when the rocket landed on the ground.”以及第三段Amy所说的“The egg is safe, and it shows that my rocket is successful”可知,她在火箭里放鸡蛋是为了检查火箭着陆时鸡蛋是否安全,以此证明火箭能安全着陆。
根据最后一段Frank说的话“The fair was both meaningful and fun ... Students not only learned new knowledge but also showed their creativity ...”

You may have seen online headlines (头条) about “raising a Lobster (龙虾)” recently. But this “lobster” is not the kind you find on a dinner table. It's a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool called OpenClaw, developed by Austrian programmer Peter Steinberger. It uses a red lobster as its symbol, and many users in China jokingly call it “raising lobster” after setting it up on their computers.
For years, we’ve used AI tools like ChatGPT. They can give advice and answer questions, but they can’t take action in the real world for us. What’s more, they only respond (反应) when we ask them something. OpenClaw, however, is very different. It can actually do real things for users, such as sending emails, buying plane tickets, and even managing daily tasks. It works in chat apps, so you can talk to it just like texting a friend.
OpenClaw also has an amazing long-term “memory”. Over time, it learns your preferences and follows your schedule (日程). For example, you might wake up to a message listing your top three tasks, even though you never asked the AI to do that. This feature (特征) is powered by something called a “heartbeat”, explained by US AI expert Claire Vo. A heartbeat is a regular timer that tells the AI to check for new tasks automatically (自动地).
But every coin has two sides, and OpenClaw comes with serious risks. The biggest problem is that it collects a huge amount of personal information. In February, researchers found that some important user data from OpenClaw had been shared online without any warning. Hackers could use this stolen information to take control of users’ computers. On March 8 and 10, the Chinese government issued (发布) its first official warnings about this kind of AI, telling people to stay careful while using such tools.
12. What makes OpenClaw different from AI tools like ChatGPT?
A. It can talk to users in chat apps.
B. It can answer users’ questions quickly.
C. It can take real actions without being asked.
13. Which of the following is one of OpenClaw’s special abilities?
A. It can remember users’ needs and plans.
B. It can help people cook seafood at home.
C. It can create new computer games easily.
14. What is the main risk of OpenClaw?
A. It costs users too much money.
B. It may leak users’ personal information.
C. It cannot work with other AI programs.
15. What will the writer probably talk about next?
A. How to use OpenClaw safely.
B. Steps to develop new AI tools.
C. The history of raising red lobsters.
C 13. A 14. B 15. A
文中指出“They can give advice and answer questions, but they can’t take action in the real world for us. What’s more, they only respond when we ask them something. OpenClaw, however, is very different. It can actually do real things for users... even though you never asked the AI to do that.”,ChatGPT等工具只能给出建议、回答问题,且只有在用户提问时才会回应,而OpenClaw可以主动为用户执行实际操作,无需用户主动询问。
文中指出“OpenClaw also has an amazing long-term ‘memory’. Over time, it learns your preferences and follows your schedule. For example, you might wake up to a message listing your top three tasks, even though you never asked the AI to do that.”,OpenClaw的特殊能力是可以记住用户的需求和日程安排。
文中指出“The biggest problem is that it collects a huge amount of personal information. In February, researchers found that some important user data from OpenClaw had been shared online without any warning. Hackers could use this stolen information to take control of users’ computers.”,OpenClaw的主要风险是可能泄露用户的个人信息。

So far(到目前为止)是现在完成时的标志词。
May 22nd is the International Day for Biological Diversity It calls on people around the world to realize the importance of protecting different lives on Earth. Rich biodiversity offers a safe home for thousands of wild creatures (生物), keeps our nature balanced and helps our society develop healthily.
The Yangtze River, China’s mother river, is a key living place for many endangered creatures (生物), among which the Yangtze finless porpoise (江豚) is one of the most famous.
The cute porpoise is known as the “smiling angel” because of its special mouth shape. It is also called “the giant panda of the water” and lives only in the Yangtze River. Years ago, it faced terrible living conditions: serious water pollution, noisy river traffic and endless overfishing made its population drop quickly. By 2017, its number fell to a low level and faced the danger of dying out.
To repair the broken river ecosystem, our government has taken actions. On the one hand, polluting factories along the river were closed or moved away. On the other hand, new green technologies were widely used to improve water quality. Besides, a ten-year fishing ban started in 2021 to prevent unreasonable fishing.
Thanks to long-term protection, great progress has been made. The number of Yangtze finless porpoises has grown gradually, and more native fish have returned to the river. 例文
Dear teachers and classmates,
Good morning, everyone. I’m Li Hua. It’s my pleasure to talk about “Holiday Self-management”. During holidays, many students have problems with self-management. Some spend too much time playing games, while others stay up late.
I used to have the same problem. I often wasted time watching TV and didn’t finish homework until the last minute. To solve this, I made a strict plan. I set an alarm clock to get up early and divided my time carefully for study and exercise.
From this experience, I have learned a valuable lesson. Self-discipline is the key to success. Only by managing ourselves well can we make our holidays meaningful.
Thanks for your listening.

More importantly, as these protective measures continue, more companies are setting up along the banks of the Yangtze River. The Yangtze River Economic (经济的) Belt is growing in a greener way. Our mother river has come back to life.
Behind this progress is a simple idea: Protecting the river is protecting our home. The experience of the Yangtze River tells us that we can share a better future with all living things by ________.
