When he was twelve years old, he went to Paris with an uncle. There, he finished his studies in marketing. After working as a casting director for nine years, Delilah got a job at Rue Dieulafoy. It is a popular place in Paris and many Parisian fashion designers like to go there. While working there and watching the customers, Delilah came up with the idea of making clothes for the European market. He wanted to give new life to the clothes that were sold in Africa. This idea started to become real. The England designer opened his first showroom. There, he began to sell his own brand of products. If you look carefully at the clothes in his showroom, you can see how special his design process is. He takes the clothes that come to Africa from Europe and the US through charities. Then he gives them a new look and sells them in France. Every year, a large amount of clothes are sent from Europe and the US to Africa. Just Italy sends more than 150 tonnes. The second-hand clothing market in Africa started because people wanted to help poorer countries. But it has two problems. First, many clothes can’t be used again. These clothes that no one buys make more waste. Second, since the late 1980s, too many second-hand clothes have come into the African market. This has made the African cloth industry face a big crisis and it is still having a hard time getting better. Delilah goes to Africa several times a year to buy second-hand clothes. In fact, 95 percent of the clothes he makes come from the markets in London. “We don’t want to teach people with fashion. Instead, we want to show them what they can do with what they have. Give me the clothes and I’ll show you how to wear them without having to buy new ones,” he said. The African designer’s words, which he said in an interview with the British broadcaster BBC, can show his idea. 24. What do you learn about Delilah from paragraph 1? A. He helped his uncle at Rue Dieulafoy. B. He worked at a nice place in Paris. C. He studied marketing for nine years. D. He became a casting director in London. 25. What is the idea behind Delilah’s clothing brand? A. The use of different clothes. B. The jobs of fashion designers. C. The importance of recycling. D. The value of good quality. 26. What can you infer about the second-hand clothes in Africa? A. They are a good way to help poorer countries. B. They have made the African industry grow fast. C. They have made clothes environmentally friendly. D. They have done no good to the African economy. 27. What is the main aim of this text? A. To tell the story of an excellent designer. B. To encourage more designers to be creative. C. To analyze the result of second-hand clothes. D. To help a designer’s fashion business grow. C Many people miss the sweet, rich taste of the tomatoes they ate in childhood and wonder why store-bought ones today have little flavor. The main reason is that modern farming has focused more on producing large amounts than on improving taste. But Chinese scientists have recently made an important discovery that may soon change this. A team led by Professor Hang Sanwen from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has found a way to bring back the delicious flavor of tomatoes without lowering production. They discovered how to genetically “release the sugar brake” in tomatoes, making them much sweeter while still keeping high production. This breakthrough solves a long-standing problem in farming — how to achieve both good quantity and good quality. The study began with taste tests of more than 100 types of tomatoes. Scientists identified 33 key compounds (化合物) that create flavor. They then examined these compounds in 400 tomato varieties from around the world and carried out detailed genetic research. In the process, they found 49 genes linked to tomato flavor, including two that control sugar levels. The key discovery is that turning off these two genes could raise sugar levels by up to 30%. More importantly, this change does not affect the tomatoes’ size, look, or production. “This result shows the possibility of using the great genetic diversity found in wild species, which has been partly lost in affected varieties, to improve modern ones,” said Christophe Rothan, a fruit biologist at the French National Institute of Agricultural Research. The study comes at the right time, as more people are asking for better-tasting vegetables. Thanks to this research, suppliers may be able to offer sweeter tomatoes without worrying about a drop in fruit weight or production. The team hopes that these improved tomatoes will hit the market in the near future, according to the study published in Nature. 28. What can we learn about modern tomatoes according to paragraph 1? A. Their quality has declined in terms of taste. B. They are cheaper owing to mass production. C. Their popularity increases for their large size. D. They are grown in traditional farming methods. 29. What was the core finding for the scientists? A. Conducting massive taste tests. B. Identifying 33 key flavor compounds. C. Analyzing global genetic variations. D. Revealing two sugar-controlling genes. 30. Which statement may Christophe Rothan agree with? A. Modern varieties are difficult to improve. B. Genetic diversity in tomatoes is decreasing. C. Cultivated tomatoes are better than wild ones. D. Wild species offer valuable genetic resources. 31. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To advertise a new type of tomato. B. To criticize current farming practices. C. To introduce an advance in agriculture. D. To explain the genetic makeup of tomatoes. D At any bus stop or while waiting in line, most people will have their heads down scrolling (滚屏) on their phones. But studies suggest if you resist that urge and let your mind wander instead, there could be some serious benefits. Social psychology professor Erin Westgate compares mindless scrolling to “brain candy” — momentarily pleasurable but lacking in meaning. She adds human achievements largely come from higher-order thinking. So next time you have a few minutes free, put away your phone and let your mind wander. Many people fear boredom, but this fear is often overblown. In a 2022 study, people predicted they would hate 20 minutes alone doing nothing, yet afterward reported greater enjoyment than expected. According to researcher Kou Murayama, the ability to mentally wander — to reflect on past experiences, and consider others’ viewpoints — is a distinctly human capacity that boosts learning and helps understand others. Mind-wandering is also key to problem-solving. People often find solutions better after unfocused thinking than intentional effort alone, especially during routine tasks like driving or showering. Even when people are not actively thinking, their brains remain active in a so-called default mode (默认模式), allowing ideas to connect in new ways. It’s especially helpful for complex problems. Beyond cognitive (认知的) benefits, daydreaming also boosts social and emotional connections. A study found imagining pleasant interactions with loved ones made people feel closer. Social daydreaming allows individuals to practice conversations, reflect on past interactions, and prepare for future social situations. As psychologist Poerio says, our ability to mentally “time travel” helps us better handle the social world. Murayama says he now tries to resist checking his phone during short waits and let his thoughts wander. He finds simply entertaining oneself mentally can be both satisfying and meaningful. 32. Why does Erin Westgate compare mindless scrolling to “brain candy”? A. It brings quick but shallow enjoyment. B. It replaces deep thinking in daily life. C. It helps people to avoid boredom. D. It does harm to people’s health. 33. What is the 2022 study used to demonstrate? A. Phone addiction is avoidable. B. Self-reflection defines humans. C. Being alone promotes learning. D. Daydreaming is undervalued. 34. What does the default mode suggest? A. Intentional effort brings new ideas. B. Unfocused thinking fuels creativity. C. Routines involve little brain activity. D. Complex tasks require active minds. 35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. Maintain Focus in the Digital Age B. Discover the Joy of Being Truly Alone C. Unlock the Power of Your Wandering Mind D. Explore the Benefit of entertaining How to Stop Laughing at Inappropriate Times Although laughing at inappropriate times can be embarrassing, it’s actually a natural reaction for some people when they’re facing a highly stressful situation. It can help you relieve stress and release your own tension. ___36___ Here are some ways to stop laughing. Maybe you laugh because you have a lot of energy or have trouble finding the words you want to say. Whatever your reasons for laughing, write down when your laughter is causing you issues. Consider the time, location, occasion, and people who could be causing your laughter. These are called your triggers. ___40___ A. Create a plan for replacing your laughter. B. Choose replacement behaviors for the laughter. C. You can also look for a certain color in the room. D. Tell yourself, “The next time I feel awkward in a work meeting, I will click my pen.” E. She planned to sell her grandma’s hand-made scarves (围巾), which were kept in a wooden box with a rose on the top — grandma’s favorite. “These scarves will surely get a lot of money for the disabled kids,” she said softly, touching the soft wool gently. In the afternoon before the sale, Lily spent hours smoothing each scarf and putting them in order. Her classmate, Mia, who was responsible for the sale’s arrangements, stopped by her desk. “Lily, could you help me get some tables from the storage room tomorrow morning? I have to take my little brother to the hospital,” Mia asked, her eyes full of worry. Lily thought for a second — she had promised to come early to set up her scarf stand — but nodded. “Sure, no problem.” The next morning, Lily hurried to the storage room. She put her box near the storage room door and began to take some tables out of the storage room. When she finally pulled the heavy tables to the playground, the sale had already started. However, to her great surprise, her wooden box was nowhere to be seen. She looked for it in every corner, her heart feeling heavier as time went by. Just then, she saw Anny standing beside a stand full of hand-made scarves, talking to customers. They were like grandma’s! Lily walked over quickly, tears burning her eyes. “Anny, how could you? Those are my scarves!” Anny looked very surprised. “What are you talking about? These are mine.”Hearing that, Lily came over to check the box. There was no rose on the top of that box. Lily’s face turned pale (苍白的), “But where is my box?” she said, tears running out of her eyes. As she was walking around, a familiar voice came from behind: “Lily, your box is here!” Lily turned around and saw Mia holding her box. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When the sale ended, Lily walked up to Anny and her head hung low. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $第一节听下面5段对话。 The weather is really nice, the Sunny shining and there's a gentle wind. yeah. In fact, some of the best lessons in life come from china era. Take Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bube, as an example. He tried thousands of times before finding the right material that worked when asked about his failures, he said, I have not failed. I've just found ten thousand ways that won't work in my own knife. I've learned a lot by trying and fAiling. In my first year of high school, I joined the debate team. I was nervous and forgot my lines during my first debate. IT was embarrassing, but IT showed me the importance of confidence. I also remember signing up for a school speech contest the next year. 25. 24. B 25. C 26. D 27. A 29. D 30. D 31. 根据第一段“Many people miss the sweet, rich taste of the tomatoes they ate in childhood and wonder why store-bought ones today have little flavor. The main reason is that modern farming has focused more on producing large amounts than on improving taste.(许多人怀念小时候吃的番茄香甜浓郁的味道,疑惑为什么现在商店里买的番茄几乎没有味道。主要原因是现代农业更注重高产而非改善口感)”可知,现代番茄在口感品质上有所下降。故选A。 根据第三段“In the process, they found 49 genes linked to tomato flavor, including two that control sugar levels.(在此过程中,他们发现了49个与番茄风味相关的基因,其中两个控制糖分水平)”以及第四段“The key discovery is that turning off these two genes could raise sugar levels by up to 30%.(关键发现是关闭这两个基因可使糖分含量提高30%)”可知,科学家的核心发现是找到了两个控制糖分的基因。 根据第四段“This result shows the possibility of using the great genetic diversity found in wild species, which has been partly lost in affected varieties, to improve modern ones(这一结果表明,可以利用在野生物种中发现的丰富遗传多样性来改良现代品种,这种多样性在已改良的品种已部分丧失)”包含两个并列分句,前后语义一致,均在说明野生番茄的基因资源具有重要利用价值。 通读全文,尤其是根据第二段“A team led by Professor Hang Sanwen from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has found a way to bring back the delicious flavor of tomatoes without lowering production. Explore the Benefit of entertaining 【答案】32. A 33. D 34. B 35. She adds human achievements largely come from higher-order thinking.( 社会心理学教授埃琳·韦斯特盖特将这种无意识的滑屏行为比作“大脑糖果”——短暂的愉悦但缺乏意义。她补充道,人类的大部分成就都源于高阶思维。)”可知,埃琳·韦斯特盖特将无意识地浏览网络内容比作“大脑糖果”是因为它能带来快速但肤浅的愉悦感。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“So next time you have a few minutes free, put away your phone and let your mind wander. According to researcher Kou Murayama, the ability to mentally wander — to reflect on past experiences, and consider others’ viewpoints — is a distinctly human capacity that boosts learning and helps understand others.( 所以,下次你有几分钟空闲时间时,把手机收起来,让思绪自由飘荡吧。 根据第四段中“Even when people are not actively thinking, their brains remain active in a so-called default mode (默认模式), allowing ideas to connect in new ways. It’s especially helpful for complex problems.( 即使人们并非在积极思考,他们的大脑仍处于一种所谓的“默认模式”中,从而能够以新的方式将各种想法联系起来。这对于解决复杂问题尤其有帮助。)”可知,“默认模式”表明了不专注的思考有助于创造力的迸发。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及第一段“At any bus stop or while waiting in line, most people will have their heads down scrolling (滚屏) on their phones. But studies suggest if you resist that urge and let your mind wander instead, there could be some serious benefits.( 在任何公交站或排队等候时,大多数人都会低头盯着手机屏幕不停地滑动。 How to Stop Laughing at Inappropriate Times Although laughing at inappropriate times can be embarrassing, it’s actually a natural reaction for some people when they’re facing a highly stressful situation. It can help you relieve stress and release your own tension. ___36___ Here are some ways to stop laughing. Distract yourself from your urge to laugh.  It takes time to learn how to curb your tendency to laugh, but distraction is an easy way to stop yourself, in the meantime. For example, you can pinch yourself. The slight pain will distract you from your urge to laugh. ___37___ Choose any color and see how many places you can spot it in the area. This small goal will shift your focus from laughter and your emotions. ___38___ What can you do instead of laughing nervously? For example, nod, lick your lips, exhale slowly, or click a pen. What you decide to replace your laughter with depends on the circumstances that are causing your laughter. For example, you may laugh nervously during work meetings. ___39___ If you tend to laugh at serious moments, take a deep breath at moments when you’d typically laugh. Identify what makes you laugh inappropriately. Do you laugh out of nervousness, or do you laugh to cope with painful feelings? Maybe you laugh because you have a lot of energy or have trouble finding the words you want to say. Whatever your reasons for laughing, write down when your laughter is causing you issues. Consider the time, location, occasion, and people who could be causing your laughter. These are called your triggers. ___40___ A. Create a plan for replacing your laughter. B. Choose replacement behaviors for the laughter. C. You can also look for a certain color in the room. D. Tell yourself, “The next time I feel awkward in a work meeting, I will click my pen.” E. Once you know what they are, you can begin to address your habit of laughing. F. But the inappropriate laughter may negatively affect your life. G. If this is the case, click your pen instead of laughing. 36. F 37. C 38. B 39. G 40. It can help you relieve stress and release your own tension(尽管在不合适的时候笑可能会让人尴尬,但这实际上是一些人在面临高度压力时的自然反应。 F选项“But the inappropriate laughter may negatively affect your life.(但不恰当的笑可能会对你的生活产生负面影响。)” 【37题详解】 根据本段段旨“Distract yourself from your urge to laugh. 可知,本段主要介绍的是分散注意力的途径;同时根据后文“Choose any color and see how many places you can spot it in the area. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Lily turned around and saw Mia holding her box. “I’m so sorry!” Mia explained. “I just got back from the hospital. I found your box by the storage room door. I thought you’d forgotten it, so I brought it here.” Lily’s eyes lit up with relief. She hugged the box tightly, tears of joy running down her face. “Thank you so much, Mia! You’re a lifesaver.” She quickly opened the box and was happy to find all the scarves safe and sound. When the sale ended, Lily walked up to Anny and her head hung low. “Anny, I’m so sorry I made a big mistake. I was just so worried about my grandma’s scarves. Please forgive me,” she said sincerely. Anny smiled and patted her shoulder. “It’s okay, Lily. I understand how you felt. Your scarves are beautiful. They sold really well, too.” Lily felt a warm feeling in her heart. She realized that sometimes misunderstandings can happen, but with honesty and kindness, they can be solved. 词类激活 行为类 ①发现:find/notice ②流下:run down/stream down ③意识到:realize/recognize/be aware of 情绪类 ①宽慰:relief/comfort ②担心:be worried about/be concerned about 【点睛】【高分句型1】Lily’s eyes lit up with relief.
