A. Gaining social support.
B. Focusing on broad goals.
C. Keeping the goals private.
B 18. A 19. B 20. A
To stay committed to your goals, try these strategies, Forbes, a Stanford professor, suggests starting with small, manageable habits. For example, practice an instrument for 30 seconds a day, or wash your hands before meals. These actions, though small, are more effective than goals like eating healthy food or getting fit, which can be hard to achieve without specific steps.
Another tip is to track your progress with a Scorecard. This could mean recording how far you run or how much time you spend studying a language. Besides, he advises keeping your goals to yourself. Announcing them implies a sense of completion. It might mean that you’re less likely to follow through. However, Victor, a New York University professor, opposed that. He thought you should tell your friends or family members. He added that having social support helps people achieve difficult goals. You could ask friends to remind you when you achieve a goal, you should throw a party to celebrate it with them.

There are many colors in nature. But do you think that a color has weight? I think you’ll say “no”. But I’m afraid you are wrong. If you don’t believe it, you may do a small experiment.
First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the boxes. Third, wrap one box with a red piece of paper, the other one with a white piece of paper. OK. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
Why do you think so? A scientist found that different colors have different weights in man’s mind. That is to say, every color has its own weight in our mind.
The scientist told us that colors also have smell. Can you smell the color? Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so? That is because every color stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength. It reaches our brain through sense organs.
According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colors they like, and refuse the colors they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colors you like. Or you’ll be nervous or even get ill. For example, you like blue and hate red. If you stay in a room with red windows, wallpaper and furniture for two hours, you’ll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you’ll feel you have been there for only an hour. And, if a person walks out of a blue room and into a red room, his temperature will rise. That means our body temperature will change with different colors.
24. From the experiment, we know that________.
A. the two boxes have the same weight B. colors can change the weight of an object
C. the red paper is heavier than the white paper D. colors have different weights in people’s mind
25. From the fourth paragraph, we can infer________
A. the smell of colors is changeable B. people can sense the light from colors
C. people can smell the colors through the nose D. all the colors have the same smell for the blind
26. We can infer from the last paragraph that________
A. red color is bad for our health B. people may get nervous in a red room
C. blue color can raise our body temperature D. colors can influence our mood and health
27. The passage is probably________.
A. a short novel B. a news report C. a science report D. an advertisement

When Ghanain photojournalist Paul Ninson initially pursued a career in photography, he found the challenge discouraging. Photography isn’t exactly valued as a career in Ghana, Ninson says, “If you tell your parents you’re going to be a photographer, it was like, ‘Yuck, what? Go be a lawyer.’”
But Ninson felt photography was his calling. Deeply influenced by the family history of storytelling passed down through his grandparents and later attracted by a friend’s images, he developed a love for photography. He sold his mobile phone, bought a camera and began studying photography.
Though Ninson began his journey with commercial photography, he soon shifted his focus to stories closer to his heart — those of African history and culture that he would capture as a photojournalist.
Ninson still sought formal education in photojournalism. Unable to find a suitable program in Africa, he left Ghana in 2019 to study in New York City. There, he read the center’s hundreds of photobooks. In Ghana, he only had access to five or six of such books.
As he ventured deeper into the city, he discovered more visual histories of Africa than he had experienced at home, such as documentation of Ghana’s first president at the New York Public Library. The libraries Ninson visited were unwilling to give him their archives (档案) to return to Africa, which led to his idea of creating a leading photobook library in Africa that held such stories. This idea has been realized with the creation of the Dikan Center in Accra, Ghana’s capital.
In Ghanaian artist Daniella Afful’s eyes, Dikan Center is a spark for the growth of Ghana’s creative community, “Dikan Center has magnified (放大) art and photography. Dikan Center has kind of given us the hope that we may soon have a music library and we could have a film library in Ghana — anything just to preserve our history and make history.”
28. How did Ninson's grandparents affect his career choice?
A. They bought a camera for Ninson. B. They asked him to consult his friend.
C. They carried on the storytelling tradition. D. They showed many photos of his family.
29. Why did Ninson go to America?
A. He desired for chances to better himself. B. He hunted for more approaches to culture.
C. He planned to sell hundreds of photobooks. D. He wanted to return to commercial photography.
30. Which of the following can best describe Ninson?
A. Optimistic and humorous. B. Generous and caring.
C. Innovative and hard-working. D. Brave and outgoing.
31. What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph?
A. Publicize Dikan Center.
B. Highlight the significance of Dikan Center.
C. Introduce the development prospects of Dikan Center.
D. Call on people to build more libraries in Dikan Center.
C 29. A 30. C 31. B
根据第二段中的“Deeply influenced by the family history of storytelling passed down through his grandparents and later attracted by a friend’s images, he developed a love for photography. (深受通过祖父母传下来的家族讲故事历史的影响,后来又被朋友的照片所吸引,他爱上了摄影。)”可知,Ninson的祖父母通过传承讲故事的传统影响了他的职业选择,使他爱上了摄影。故选C项。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Ninson still sought formal education in photojournalism. Unable to find a suitable program in Africa, he left Ghana in 2019 to study in New York City. (Ninson仍然寻求摄影新闻学的正规教育。由于在非洲找不到合适的课程,他于2019年离开加纳前往纽约市学习。)”可知,Ninson去美国是为了寻求摄影新闻学的正规教育,提升自己的技能,即他渴望有机会提升自己。故选A项。
根据第五段中的“The libraries Ninson visited were unwilling to give him their archives (档案) to return to Africa, which led to his idea of creating a leading photobook library in Africa that held such stories. This idea has been realized with the creation of the Dikan Center in Accra, Ghana’s capital.
根据最后一段“In Ghanaian artist Daniella Afful’s eyes, Dikan Center is a spark for the growth of Ghana’s creative community, “Dikan Center has magnified (放大) art and photography. Dikan Center has kind of given us the hope that we may soon have a music library and we could have a film library in Ghana — anything just to preserve our history and make history.”

Advice to the Hard-working Girl
You are not a superwoman. No matter how much you think you could handle, sometimes you need to take a step back and realize when you’re taking on too much. No one wants to be the one to quit, but sometimes taking a break is necessary to get work done effectively.
Practice the following things to help you accomplish this:
___36___
In order to please everyone, you try to say “yes” and be nice, not knowing that you’re hurting yourself in the long run. Saying “yes” to everything adds pressure. You always need to make sure not to let anyone down and forget that you have to take care of yourself, too. ___37___.
Take on what you can handle
Look, everyone knows you have the power to take on whatever you put your mind to, but don’t let that make you feel like you have to take on everything at once. ___38___. For example, if there are twenty things you need to do, do ten today and ten at another time.
It’s all about balance
___39___. Taking on too much at times makes you forget that there is a life to live. Everyone is proud of the work you’ve done but they miss you, too. Take a day to hang out with friends and family. The work will still be there, and balancing work with fun will actually make you more efficient.
Sleepless nights are awful
When it comes to not being able to sleep, it should be a wake-up call. ___40___. Usually, when your mind is restless, it’s a sign that something is wrong. Over stressing could be the reason why you're losing out on sleep and not sleeping makes you have a bad day. No one wants that, so don’t do it to yourself.
A. Take a deep breath
B. Stop saying “yes” to everything
C. You should learn to break things up
D. Work is good, but make sure to save time for fun
E. Keep that in mind when you try to be there for family
F. You should know you can say “no” when you feel overloaded
G. It means your body is off and you need to get it back in order
B 37. F 38. C 39. D 40. G
根据下文“In order to please everyone, you try to say “yes” and be nice, not knowing that you're hurting yourself in the long run. Saying “yes” to everything adds pressure(为了取悦每一个人,你试着说“好的”并且表现得友好,却不知道从长远来看你正在伤害自己。对所有事情都说“好的”会增加压力)”可知,上文说的是对所有事情都说“好的”会增加压力,可推理出本段主要讲的是不要对所有事情都答应,B项“Stop saying “yes” to everything(不要对所有事情都说“好的”)”能作为该段的小标题,故选B项。
【37题详解】
根据上文“You always need to make sure not to let anyone down and forget that you have to take care of yourself, too.( 你总是需要确保不要让任何人失望,并且不要忘记你也必须照顾好自己)”可知,上文提到了不要忘记你也必须照顾好自己,可推理出空处应陈述要在感觉任务过多、不堪重负时,学会拒绝,照顾好自己,F项“You should know you can say “no” when you feel overloaded(当你感觉不堪重负时,你应该知道你可以说“不”)”是对上文的合理延伸,故选F项。
根据上文“but don't let that make you feel like you have to take on everything at once(但是不要让那种想法让你觉得你必须一次性承担所有事情)”和下文“For example, if there are twenty things you need to do, do ten today and ten at another time(例如,如果你有二十件需要做的事情,今天做十件,另找时间做另外十件)”可知,要学会把事情分解开,C项“You should learn to break things up(你应该学会把事情分解开)”符合语境,故选C项。
根据下文“Taking on too much at times makes you forget that there is a life to live. Everyone is proud of the work you’ve done but they miss you, too. Take a day to hang out with friends and family. The work will still be there, and balancing work with fun will actually make you more efficient(有时承担太多事情会让你忘记还有生活要过。
根据上文“When it comes to not being able to sleep, it should be a wake-up call(当涉及到无法入睡时,这应该是一个警示信号)”可知,当无法入睡时,这应该是一个警示信号,由此推知,空处应解释这个警示信号是什么。G项“It means your body is off and you need to get it back in order(这意味着你的身体出了问题,你需要让它恢复正常)”是对上文“警示信号”的具体解释,故选G项。

Protecting the Environment
Environmental problems are becoming more and more serious all over the world. For example, cars have made the air unhealthy for people to breathe and poisonous gas is given off by factories. Trees on the hills have been cut down and waste water is being poured continuously into rivers. Furthermore, wherever we go today, we can find rubbish carelessly disposed. Pollution is, in fact, threatening our existence.
The earth is our home and we have the duty to take care of it for ourselves and for our later generations. Fortunately, more and more people have realized these problems. Measures have been taken to cope with these problems by the government. Laws have been passed to stop pollution. I hope the problem will be solved in the near future and that our home will become better and better.

Adventures Through the Gorge
We put the raft in the calm, cold water.I looked down. The water was like a mirror. It was a foggy morning,so I could barely make out what was down the river. When we took our places in the raft,I was in the back with my dad right across from me.Our tour guide was telling us the basics of rafting, and it seemed she was patronizing us!I was terrified.Since I was in the back,I was sure I would be the one to fall out.But I have always been an optimist,so I thought it would turn out okay.
Then I looked up and saw a big, gray cloud.I looked down at the river, and it started to get louder and closer to us;soon raindrops pelted us.Once we moved out of the rain, the clouds faded away, and the sun was shining down on us for the rest of the day.As I looked around,I saw the monstrous, green trees standing over me.It was beautiful.
As we moved farther down the river,I heard the water flowing gracefully. When we moved deeper into the gorge,it got louder and louder. This was our first rapids. It seemed that we were approaching the rapids slowly, but we were at the top of the rapids in the blink of an eye.It felt like time frozen.I was so excited and nervous;I thought I was going to die.It was a bumpy ride down.Getting splashed with water,we raced up and down the rocks. There was not a patch of dry skin on us by the time we hit the bottom.
After we got through the rapids,I was so excited!Going down made me feel I could do anything. Our tour guide told us we were going to approach Category V rapids. It was more intense than the Category I rapids, and I got a little more nervous. It took us a little while to get to the rapids because we had to go down a long river. We were allowed to jump off the raft and swim down the river until we had to get back in.
Paragraph 1:
About three minutes later, the Category V was coming.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
After racing down all of the rapids,I was no longer scared.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
About three minutes later, the Category V was coming. The raft raced down the rapids.Water was splashing on the rocks, letting out louder noise.Screaming all the way down,I saw white water all over.I was so nervous because there were five big solitary rocks sticking out.If a little careless,we might hit one and get turned upside down.In the blink of an eye,we turned around the last huge rock, entering a small calm ride. When we settled at the bottom,I wanted to go back up and do it all again.
Paragraph 2:
After racing down all of the rapids,I was no longer scared.“What did you think about that Category V rapids?” my dad asked.“I was super nervous at first. But when we hit the bottom,I wanted to do it once more.” “Would you say you become more confident of yourself?” he continued.“Yes,I would say I become much more confident of myself.” I smiled. We walked towards our campsite.

C

Electric Vehicles(车辆) in China
With the increasing focus on environmental protection and the need to reduce carbon emissions(排放), electric vehicles have gained significant popularity in China. The Chinese government has been actively promoting the development and adoption of electric vehicles to address air pollution and dependency on fossil fuels. This article explores the current state and future prospects of electric vehicles in China.
One of the key advantages of electric vehicles is their zero-emission feature, which helps to improve air quality and reduce the negative impact on the environment. In addition, the government provides generous subsidies(补贴) and incentives(激励) to encourage consumers to choose electric vehicles, making them more affordable and attractive. The growing charging infrastructure(设施)network also facilitates the widespread use of electric vehicles.
However, challenges such as range anxiety, high initial costs, and charging time remain. To overcome these obstacles, continuous technological advancements are necessary to improve battery technology and charging infrastructure. Additionally, raising public awareness and changing consumer perceptions are crucial for wider acceptance of electric vehicles.
Looking ahead, the future of electric vehicles in China appears promising. As technology progresses and costs decrease, electric vehicles are expected to become more mainstream. The government's determination to achieve a greener transportation sector and the increasing consumer demand for sustainable options will drive the further growth of the electric vehicle market in China.
32. Why have electric vehicles become popular in China?
A. To reduce air pollution. B. To increase carbon emissions.
C. To depend more on fossil fuels. D. To make transportation more expensive.
33. What helps the widespread use of electric vehicles?
A. The growing charging infrastructure. B. The lack of government subsidies.
C. The long charging time. D. The high initial costs.
34. What are the challenges of electric vehicles?
A. Zero-emission. B. Affordable prices.
C. Widespread acceptance. D. Range anxiety and charging time.
35. What is necessary for the wider acceptance of electric vehicles?
A. Improving battery technology. B. Decreasing charging infrastructure.
C. Lowering public awareness. D. Changing consumer preferences.

Paragraph 2:
After racing down all of the rapids,I was no longer scared.
