七、阅读理解
A
[The following is an excerpt from Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. The novel talks about an AI “Friend” Klara who believes the Sun can heal her sick human friend.]
When we were new, Rosa and I stayed in the middle of the store, near the magazine table. From there we could see part of the window and watch the outside world—people passing by, taxis, tourists, Beggar Man and his dog, and the lower part of the RPO Building.
Later, after we got used to the store, Manager let us walk to the front behind the shop window. From there we could see how tall the RPO Building was. And if we were there at just the right time, we would see the Sun crossing between the buildings.
When I was lucky enough to see him, I’d move my face forward to take in as much of his nourishment (滋养) as I could, and if Rosa was with me, I’d tell her to do the same. After a minute or two, we’d have to return to our places and when we were new, we worried that because we couldn’t see the Sun from the middle of the store, we’d grow weaker. Boy AF Rex, who was next to us, told us not to worry. He pointed to the floor and said, “That’s the Sun’s pattern right there. If you’re worried, you can just touch it and get strong again.”
There were no customers then. Manager was busy, and I didn’t want to bother her. So I took a quick look at Rosa. When she looked back with no expression, I stepped forward, bent down and reached out to touch the Sun’s pattern (图案). But as soon as I touched it, the pattern was gone. I tried everything—patting (拍打) the spot, rubbing (摩擦) the floor—but it wouldn’t come back.
When I stood up, Rex said, “Klara, that was greedy (贪婪的). You took all the nourishment for yourself. Look, it’s almost dark.”
“I’m sorry,” I said. “I didn’t mean to.”
“Because of you,” Rex said, “I’ ll become weak by evening.”
“You’ re joking,” I said.
“I’m not. I could get sick right now. And those AFs in the back? They’re already not well. They’ll get worse now. You were greedy, Klara.”
“I don’t believe you,” I said, but I was no longer sure. I looked at Rosa—her face was still blank.
“I’m feeling sick already,” Rex said.
“But you just said the Sun always reaches us. You’re joking.”
In the end, I made myself believe Rex was joking with me. But I sensed I had made him bring up something uncomfortable – something most AFs preferred not to talk about. Not long after, that thing happened to Rex. It made me think that even if he had been joking that day, part of him had been serious too.
1. Why did Klara decide to touch the Sun’s pattern on the floor?
A. Because she wondered if Rex was right. B. Because Rosa asked her to do it.
C. Because Manager told her to do it. D. Because she wanted to play a trick on Rex.
2. What does the underlined word “blank” most likely mean?
A. Showing doubt. B. Showing worry.
C. Showing sadness. D. Showing no emotions.

A. She left her place without asking the Manager.
B. She took in all the sunlight for herself.
C. She touched the pattern without permission.
D. She made the Sun disappear from the store.
4. How did Klara’s attitude toward Rex’s words change during the story?
A. At first, Klara didn’t believe Rex, but later she thought some of his words might be true.
B. Klara always thought Rex was joking and never took his words seriously.
C. Klara went from being worried about Rex to not caring about him anymore.
D. Klara got really scared of what Rex said and stopped thinking about whether it was true.
5. What does the last sentence suggest about “that thing” that happened to Rex?
A. It was a fortunate event that Rex had been hoping for.
B. It was a common problem that few AFs experienced.
C. It was related to the unspoken fear of weakness that AFs shared.
D. It was a direct result of Klara taking the Sun’s nourishment for herself.

It was a week before I saw Captain Nemo again. Every morning, I noticed fresh air coming into the rooms and I knew that the Nautilus had come to the top. I would go out and see the sunrise.
Then I received a note from Captain Nemo. He invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island. Ned was excited because he thought there he could find a chance to run away. When I saw Captain Nemo the next day, I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. “I thought you preferred the sea.”
“I do,” replied the Captain. “But these forests are under the sea.” During breakfast, he explained, “I have made diving suits that used special air tanks before I sent you the note. These tanks would allow us to stay under the water for ten hours. Wonderful, isn’t it?” He said he had also made lights that worked in electric batteries. When Ned realized that we were not going onto land for our hunting trip, he decided not to come at all.
Conseil and I put on our diving suits, and so did Captain Nemo and one of his men. We stepped into a room and closed the door. The room was filled with water, and another door opened. We went through it, and we were on the sea floor. It was an amazing experience.
We were about ten metres under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We walked over the fine sand and enjoyed the colours of the shells, fish and seaweed (海草). Conseil and I followed Captain Nemo and his man as they crossed a large grassy area. We were going deeper and deeper.
As we were a hundred metres under the water, we could still see quite well. Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. The “trees” there were giant seaweed, and all their branches were vertical (垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest. Small bushes grew under the large seaweed trees.
Three hours later, we lay down to rest. I was not hungry, but very sleepy. We all slept, and when we woke up, we explored further.

Traditional Chinese culture is coming to life in a new way—not just in movies or museums, but also in science fiction stories. Many Chinese sci-fi writers are now drawing on ideas from ancient times to create stories about the future.
One of these writers is Wu Yan. He is a sci-fi writer and also a university teacher. His story, Dad’s Sticky Notes (《爸爸的记事贴》), won a top sci-fi award in China. In the story, a boy named Zhu Xiaoguo uses time-traveling sticky notes, invented by his dad, to go back to the year 2100 BC. He visits the Taosi site in Shanxi, where he discovers the secrets of an ancient astronomical observatory (天文观测台). The story mixes the beauty of history with the wonder of future inventions. Through the story, Wu hopes to make more people interested in ancient wisdom (智慧) and come up with new ideas. For him, Chinese culture is not just something from the past—it’s full of great ideas for the future.
Other famous sci-fi writers, like Liu Cixin, also use Chinese history and ideas in their works. Liu’s Three-Body Problem books have become popular all over the world. They deal with the subjects of space, survival (生存), and what it means to be human. Another book of his, The Wandering Earth (《流浪地球》), shows how Chinese people care about their home—they choose to save the Earth by moving it, rather than leave it.
Experts say Chinese sci-fi tells stories in a Chinese way—bringing together 5,000 years of culture and today’s big questions. These stories are not just fun—they inspire people to think about the future in a whole new way.
1. How does Zhu Xiaoguo go back to 2100 BC in Dad’s Sticky Notes?
2. What does Wu Yan hope more people will become interested in?
3. How many books by Liu Cixin are mentioned in the passage?
4. Are Chinese sci-fi stories fun without any deep meaning?
5. What word(s) will you use to describe Chinese sci-fi stories?
【答案】1. He uses time-traveling sticky notes (invented by his dad). 2. Ancient wisdom. 3. Two./2. 4. No, they aren’t./No. 5. Creative/Meaningful/Educational/Interesting. (合理即可)

1. 第二段明确提到“a boy named Zhu Xiaoguo uses time-traveling sticky notes, invented by his dad, to go back to the year 2100 BC”,直接给出了Zhu Xiaoguo穿越回公元前2100年的方式,答案为原文直接提取信息。
2. 第二段末尾直接说明“Through the story, Wu hopes to make more people interested in ancient wisdom”,因此答案为原文直接引述的 “Ancient wisdom”。
3. 第三段提到了Liu Cixin的两部作品:The Three-Body Problem和 The Wandering Earth,文中明确提及的共两部,答案为对文中信息的直接计数。
4. 文章最后一段指出“These stories are not just fun—they inspire people to think about the future in a whole new way”,说明中国科幻故事并非只有趣味,还有深层意义。

Do you know the “lost city”—Atlantis? Some people say it was an ancient civilization that disappeared into the sea. 1 And perhaps they still live here (“mer” is the French word for “ocean”). Do you think Atlantis is a real place? Do you think it still remains on the ocean floor somewhere?
Many people now believe that there is a place on Earth that has the connection with the famous story of Atlantis. It is a small island called Santorini (圣托里尼).
Santorini is an island of wonderful beauty. 2 At the other end of the island, it becomes very tall and has high, sharp cliffs. When you stand on the high places and look out, you can see another smaller island. This island’s unusual shape is special because the island had a huge volcano (火山) on it. 3
Experts have found something meaningful from an ancient town on Santorini. Every year, thousands of tourists come here to see the old culture. There are many walls and steps of ancient buildings. 4 Maybe these things are signs of Atlantis. They remind us that people lived on this lovely island many years ago.
5 But one thing is sure: this beautiful island has a long and amazing history. It tells us that the past is always full of stories. And we can still learn a lot from them today.
A. It has lovely beaches at one end.
B. But what do you know about Atlantis?
C. If you go there, you can enjoy them by yourself.
D. It broke the island into many parts when it broke out.
E. No one knows for sure if Santorini is the real Atlantis.
F. Others say it was a place where real-life “merpeople” lived.
【答案】1. F 2. A 3. D 4. C 5. E
F“Others say it was a place where real-life ‘merpeople’ lived.”起到了承上启下的作用,既承接了上文关于亚特兰蒂斯居民去向的猜测,又引出了下文关于“mer”这个词的解释。
2. 空格后一句提到了“At the other end of the island”,这暗示了空格处应该是在描述岛的一端。选项A“It has lovely beaches at one end.”与后文形成了完美的对应关系。
3. 空格前一句提到了“huge volcano”。选项D“It broke the island into many parts when breaking out.”中的“It”指代的就是前文的“volcano”,并且解释了火山爆发对岛屿形状的影响,逻辑通顺。
4. 空格前一句提到了游客可以看到“walls and steps of ancient buildings”。选项C“If you go there, you can enjoy them by yourself.”中的“them”指代的就是前文提到的古迹,鼓励读者亲自去体验。
5. 空格后一句以“But”开头,表示转折,意为“但有一件事是肯定的……”。这说明空格处应该是一个表示“不确定”或“未知”的句子。选项E“No one knows for sure if Santorini is the real Atlantis.”正好表达了这种不确定性,与后文的转折关系相符。

3. According to Boy AF Rex, what was Klara’s mistake in this situation?
