B Shared vegetable plots In recent years, shared vegetable plots have been popular in the districts of Minhang, Baoshan and Qingpu in Shanghai. Some people turn to farming to reduce the pressures (压力) of city life. Yang Rui is one of these people. At weekends, he drives his family from their home in downtown Shanghai to the All-Happy City, a shared farm in Minhang. There he has rented a 20-square-metre vegetable plot for 1,600 yuan per year. The family have planted some vegetables. When they are not around during the week, workers on the farm help them look after the vegetables. This farm has about 200 members. Some of them even raise chickens and ducks that walk in the fields. Founded by Chen Yougui in October 2022, the All-Happy City has an area of about 13.33 hectares (公顷) and comes with shared vegetable plots, barbecue pits and leisure areas (休闲区). The rental fees of vegetable plots can be from 199 yuan for a five-square-metre plot for six months to more than 10,000 yuan, depending on the size and services provided. According to Chen, the monitoring system (监测系统) covering the whole farm allows members to see their vegetable plots through their phones. Members can also ask the farm to send the ripe (成熟的) fruits and vegetables to their homes. At present, more than 50 types of fruits and vegetables are planted on the farm. The farm also improves its technology. It makes sure that the chickens and ducks raised by members don’t go missing or end up in someone else’s plot — each animal comes with its own QR code. Chen says that some of the members are parents. They rent plots mainly to teach their children about science and nature and how farming works. 19. The sight of girls flying around on poles interested her, but it wasn’t until she joined the training team that she came to realize how difficult and dangerous high-pole lion dance can be. Liang still remembers on the first day of training, how the coach asked her to stand on a high pole and jump from it to another pole 1.6 metres away. It is common to fall off poles during training. “When you hit the ground, you don’t know what is going on. You just feel great pain.” In addition to (除……以外) jumping, the daily training includes martial arts squats, running and weightlifting. It is very tiring. “The lowest pole was 1.4 metres high while the highest was three metres. I once hurt my left leg badly after falling off a two-metre-high pole. I was in pain for one whole month.” Liang still remembers the pain. That incident left scars (疤痕) on her leg, but in her heart the scars are a medal of honour. “Injuries can’t be avoided for an athlete, and every time I see those scars, I see my dreams,” she said. 22. What made Liang Jiali love the high-pole lion dance? A. Her family’s influence. B. Her dream in her childhood. C. Her study in primary school. D. The performances of high-pole lion dancers. 23. Today, Ya’an in Sichuan Province has seven nature reserves mainly to protect giant pandas. In 1998, the city didn’t allow cutting down trees in its natural forests, and since then, the home of giant pandas has become larger. In 2003, the Bifengxia wild animal park in Ya’an became the world’s largest semi-wild giant panda base. The local government and the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment in Chengdu suggested that a Giant Panda National Park covering Ya’an and neighbouring areas should be set up to protect giant pandas. In 2006, the 30th World Heritage Conference of UNESCO decided to include the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries in the World Heritage list. This is the world’s largest wildlife protection site, and the first of its kind in China to be included in the list. David Shepherd, the chief evaluation expert, said, “Our common goal is to protect the treasure of nature and of human beings, and create for giant pandas a good place to live in harmony with human beings.” In 2016, a plan for the giant panda national park system was approved (批准). B 6. B 7. D 8. C 9. A 10. D 11. A 12. B 13. C 14. B 15. but转折提示长途航行是缺点,good at“擅长”准确对应fine for的正面表达,not so good at“不那么擅长”符合语境。 “much cheaper”说明是价格上的变化,make the trip much cheaper“使旅行便宜得多”是make+宾语+宾补的结构,make符合语境。 “The key to...”“…… of“……的”、for“为了”、with“和”均不能构成key to的固定短语。 “for the long trip to Mars”需要大量水资源作为燃料,a lot of“大量的”修饰不可数名词water,符合语境。 “a kind of strong material”说明材料是构成飞船的物质,made of“由…… came from“来自”不能用于被动语态表示构造材料、carried out“执行”和set up“建立”均与材料无关。 very large和carry enough water为因果关系,and表示顺承,用and符合语境。 take a hot bath“洗个热水澡”是固定搭配,take符合语境。 “about one-thirtieth of a normal spaceship”说明是成本比较,cost“花费/成本”准确指价格上的金额,符合语境。 A Fred’s One Week Schedule (日程安排) Day Activities (活动) Time Monday Go to see Mrs King in the hospital 3:00-5:00 pm Tuesday Have a dancing class 8:00-10:30 am Wednesday Do a part-time (兼职) job 12:00-6:00 p.m Thursday See Dr. Brown Do a part-time job 10:30-11:30 am 12:00-5:00 pm Friday Meet Ann at the station 9:00 a.m Saturday Meet Tom 2:00-4:00 p.m Sunday Have a birthday party for Kate 5:00-8:00 p.m 16. 19. At home, I helped my mom with housework like washing clothes and cleaning the room, and we watched movies together at night. Besides, I read two English novels to improve my reading ability. This holiday made me really relaxed and I felt warm staying with my family. It also let me know how to balance study and rest better.
