Passage1(2025·潍坊)
A well-known 75-year Harvard study shows
that children who do chores can become more
independent and successful when they grow up.In
fact, chores are very important to children's future
development,as they bring many benefits.
When children do chores, they can get a
sense of achievement because they can see the
results soon after finishing the chores.Especially
when their parents say thanks for their help and
tell them they've made the day easier, they will
know they are useful and able to help their
families.This experience can also encourage
children to be more active outside of the family.
What's more, they will learn that it is
everyone's duty to take part in the household
chores. It helps to stop them from growing up
spoiled(惯坏的).Life doesn't simply offer
everything on a plate. It takes much effort to turn
what we want into reality.
Besides, they will learn how to manage their
time through chores.Doing chores from a young
age helps children to get used to them.Children
learn to include them in their day with all other
activities such as studies and play.Time
management is a useful skill, too. When they
grow up,they need to balance different parts of
their life like work and family.
Chores also teach important life skills.
Chores are usually related to household tasks-
washing dishes,sweeping the floor,making the
bed, etc. These are all life skills that children
need to develop. The only way to learn is by
doing.

Passage3(2025·北京)
We do everything in a hurry-finishing our
meals,completing our tasks,running to the
gyms...We choose fast living because we think
we have no control of time.We try to do as much
as we can each day, checking off tasks on our to-
do lists.Living in a rush feels like we are always
pressed for time.
Our way of thinking that is focused on speed
values doing more over doing things well. For a
long time,we believe that speed means being
productive and successful,and therefore,we keep
rushing here and there in doing everything.Yet
from time to time,we find ourselves in a
predicament(困境)that no matter how fast we
go,we never seem to be quick enough to catch up
with our endless tasks and goals.
The Slow Movement thinks that the answer to
our predicament is not to live faster, but to learn
how to live slower. The movement began with the
Slow Food Program, which was set up in 1986.It
believed that we should fight against fast-food
restaurants,protect traditional cooking,and
encourage people to enjoy preparing and eating
food.
The belief finally spread from the Slow Food
Program to other parts of life.In 1999,it helped
create Cittaslow-a group focused on slowing down
life in cities. This belief about slowing down
quickly began to influence areas like work, travel,
fashion,and living in general.
The main idea of the Slow Movement is to
value quality over quantity ()Slow living is
a lifestyle based on the Slow Movement. Its goal is
to free us from endless rush that stops us from
enjoying moments of rest.Slow living encourages
us to live each moment whole-heartedly and give
everything the time it needs, rather than try to do
as many things as possible in every minute of our
lives.Today, more people are drawn to the idea of
the Slow Movement, thanks to social media
sharing the many benefits of living slowly.
1.Why do people choose fast living?
2.What is the answer to our predicament,
according to the Slow Movement?
3.What is the main idea of the Slow Movement?
4.【开放性问题】Which lifestyle do you prefer,
fast living or slow living? Why?(Please give

Passage4(2025·成海)
Clear out the mess
Have you heard of the saying "Tidy space,
tidy mind"?Summer vacation is coming. It's time
to clear out all the things you don't need anymore
As well as freeing up space,it clears your mind.
Maybe you've been given new clothes, toys or
books for some special reason and haven't yet
found a place to store them. When you spend time
indoors taking things out to use or play with, your
bedroom gets messy.
"Clearing out the things you don't want or use
anymore makes you feel good.Messy environment
can take your attention away from things you need
to focus on,"said Dr.Roberts,a psychologist(
理学家).When your room is clean and tidy, you
don't need to spend ages searching for missing
socks or schoolbooks. This frees time and space
for the things you enjoy.Tidying up takes more
time, energy and effort, but the results make you
happy, relaxed and can help you sleep better.
"Having a clean and tidy room clears my
mind and makes me feel calmer, says The Weck
Junior reader Harry, aged 13."I like tidying up.
At the same time,it can make places for my books
and games and help me to keep them in order and
know where they are.”
When you start tidying up,set easy tasks,
such as cleaning one surface or drawer at a time.
If time is allowed, put everything on the floor or
bed and sort(分类)into four kinds:
★_:useful things you have good
memories of.
Donate:things you don't want but can give
away,like books,toys or clothes.
Sell:have a tabletop sale or ask an adult to
help you use an online marketplace.
Throw away or recycle:if it's broken or
worn out, then bin or recycle it.
1.Please explain the saying "Tidy space, tidy
mind"in Paragraph 1 in English.
2.How many reasons can cause mess according to
Paragraph 2?
3.According to Dr.Roberts,how does messy
environment influence us?

【跨学科】Leaves fall off trees. But have you
ever thought of picking them up and making art
with them?
Students at the Hefei 168 Taochonghu School
have done this. They used different leaves to make
pictures that describe how they feel about fall.
They also added some drawings or short lines of
text to their works.
This project was a task given by their English
teacher Zhou Yanfang. She had an open class
about fall based on an article titled Fall Brings
·133·
Creativity.Since the story talked about famous
writers'descriptions of fall,Zhou wanted her
students to create their own "fall"through leaves.
She said her students'creations amazed her.

and“wintry(寒冷的)”fall described by American
writer Ernest Hemingway in his book A Moveable
Feast(《流动的盛宴》).In Tao's picture,aboy
stands alone against a background of falling
leaves.Tao used some leaves to make trees and
drew the boy and an empty chair to show sadness.

romantic..“It makes me think of roses,”thel5-
year-old said.He created a yellow rose with
ginkgo(银杏)leaves. It was regarded as the best
picture in his class.Qiu spent a whole morning
picking leaves of different sizes. Then he placed
them one by one to create the rose.Similarly,
Wang Han,15,turned ginkgo leaves into a
beautiful dress for the girl in her picture.
Some students added other elements(元素),
·134·
too.Zhu Zihao,15,drew a Beijing Opera facial
mask.He put a big maple leaf next to the face.
He wanted his picture to stand for the words,
"One falling leaf can herald the coming of fall(
