learn to do sth.
根据时间状语when I was a child可知,该句时态为一般过去时,所以动词teach要用过去式taught。
“At first, I couldn’t make well”和“she never blamed (责备) me”之间是转折关系,所以用连词but。

主语Dumplings和动词invent之间是被动关系,且时间是the Eastern Han Dynasty,时态为一般过去时,所以要用一般过去时的被动语态,结构是“was/were+过去分词”,Dumplings是复数,be动词用were,invent的过去分词是invented,故填were invented。

Are you good at remembering what you’ve learned at school? Is it an easy process for all people? No one’s memory is perfect. Even the smartest people forget things. This does not mean a person has a bad memory. It means he is not using his mind to his advantages.
The brain has short-term memory and long-term memory. When we learn something new, it stays in our memory for around 20-30 seconds. This is our short-term memory. It can hold a small amount of information. If we repeat it and use it often, this information can move from short-term memory to long-term memory, which is the place where memories are stored for a long time.
The skill for remembering is moving information from short-term to long-term memory. No one knows exactly how this happens. But one thing is for sure—practising, or making repetition of information, is one of the most popular methods of remembering. And scientists say that long-term memory will never fill up completely with memories in one’s lifetime.
Then why do we forget things? Forgetting things that are not important helps our brain to remember things that are important. Our brain is always “cleaning out” useless information to make room for something more useful.
If you are interested in improving your memory, there are lots of simple things you can do, like eating healthily, sleeping well and exercising daily. Besides, it’s also important to challenge your brain. You can play mind games, learn a musical instrument or study a new language. All you need to do is to keep your brain healthy and active.
36. How does the writer begin the passage?
A. By listing numbers. B. By comparing facts.
C. By asking questions. D. By giving examples.
37. What is one of the most popular ways to remember information according to the passage?
A. Listening or writing. B. Practising or asking.
C. Listening or speaking. D. Practising or repeating.
38. The last paragraph mainly talks about ________.
A. the ways to eat healthily
B. the ways to improve our memory
C. the reasons for playing mind games
D. the reasons for studying a new language
39. According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?
A. Forgetting unimportant things is harmful to our brain.
B. Long-term memory will get full easily as people grow older.
C. Repeating information helps move it into long-term memory.
D. Short-term memory can store information for a very long time.
40. Where does the text most probably come from?
A. A guide. B. An ad. C. A story book. D. A magazine.
C 37. D 38. B 39. C 40. D
文章开头第一段通过“Are you good at remembering...?”和“Is it an easy process for all people?”
第三段明确指出:“practising, or making repetition of information, is one of the most popular methods of remembering”,因此最流行的方式是“练习或重复”。
最后一段(第五段)提到“improving your memory”以及“lots of simple things you can do”,并列举了具体方法,因此主要讲“提升记忆的方法”。
第二段明确说明:“If we repeat it and use it often, this information can move from short-term memory to long-term memory”,因此C项正确。A项与第四段“Forgetting unimportant things helps our brain”矛盾;B项与第三段“long-term memory will never fill up completely”矛盾;D项与第二段短期记忆“stays for around 20-30 seconds”矛盾。
A 22-year-old British student has invented a mobile fridge that could save millions of lives across the world.
Will Broadway’s “Isobar” is designed to keep vaccines (疫苗) at the ideal temperature. And Will doesn’t plan to make money from his creation. His purpose is to get vaccines to people who need them, which is why he won’t be trying to get a patent (专利). Will’s Isobar has won him the James Dyson Award that challenges young people to “design something that solves a problem”.
Present methods of transporting vaccines can lead to the vaccines freezing (冻住) before reaching their places in developing countries, but the Isobar keeps a temperature of 2 to 8 degrees for 30 days.
Will’s invention is expected to save 1.5 million people across the world, a number he says is “amazing”. Having now finished college education, he is making an effort to take the Isobar into production. “I would be hands-on, all the way through it, knowing that it works,” he says. “It’s amazing to just give it a go, even in my back yard, and see the potential (潜能) of the technology.”
The product has been designed to transport vaccines, but already Will sees the possibility of other medical uses in the developing world and beyond. “You can also use it to transport blood donations, organs (器官) if they get trapped (被卡住) in traffic.”

There are over 230 different kinds of lanternfish in the world. Most lanternfish are just as long as your fingers. Even the biggest lanternfish are only about 15 centimetres (厘米) long. They are not large in size.
However, each lanternfish has about 100 small round lights on the lower part of its body. The fish use their lights to help them catch food.
D. A magazine.
