The Ride of a Lifetime — ZXMoto (张雪机车)
In March 2026, the-World Superbike Championship (WSBK) in Portimão, Portugal, witnessed a historic moment. A relatively new Chinese brand, Zhangxue Motorcycles, won the championship — the first time a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer had claimed victory in this top-tier international racing event. The winning margin was nearly four seconds, a remarkable lead in a sport where races are often decided by milliseconds.
Behind this victory stands Zhang Xue, the brand’s founder. Born in 1987 into a poor family in a remote mountain village in Hunan Province, Zhang grew up in a leaky mud-brick house. At 14, he rode a motorcycle for the first time and immediately knew he would never leave it. Soon after, he dropped out of school and became an apprentice at a repair shop. There, he started with the most basic tasks — cleaning parts, then disassembling and rebuilding engines. By age 20, he could assemble a complete engine from a pile of parts, even blindfolded.
However, Zhang quickly realized that becoming a top racer was not a realistic goal. Injuries, lack of funds, and fierce competition blocked his path. So he made a decisive shift: “If I can’t ride the fastest bike, then I’ll build the fastest.” In 2013, he moved to Chongqing, China’s “Motorcycle Capital”, with only 20,000 yuan. The city’s highly integrated industrial chain — where all necessary parts can be sourced within 40 kilometers — allowed Zhang to efficiently turn his vision into reality. Today, Chongqing is home to 51 motorcycle manufacturers and over 410 parts suppliers.
Zhang founded Zhangxue Motorcycles in April 2024, focusing on high-performance products and self-developed engines. The winning bike, the 820RR-RS, features a self-developed 819cc engine. Crucially, more than 90% of its parts are produced domestically, with the engine, electronic controls, and frame achieving 100% Chinese autonomy.
“This victory means more than a win for one company,” Zhang said. “It will make our entire industry more confident in what we’ve been pursuing. And perhaps more importantly, people abroad may have to look at us with a new perspective.”
41. What can we learn about Zhang Xue’s early life?
A. He received formal education in mechanical engineering.
B. He developed mechanical skills through hands-on experience.
C. His parents financially supported his racing dreams.
D. He started riding motorcycles at a very young age.
42. Why did Zhang Xue move to Chongqing in 2013?
A. To receive better medical treatment for his injuries.
B. To benefit from the city’s well-developed industrial chain.
C. To compete in a major motorcycle racing event.
D. To find investment for his own motorcycle company.
43. What does the underlined word “integrated” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A. Complicated. B. Separated. C. Combined. D. Expensive.
44. According to Zhang Xue, what is the broader significance of his victory?
A. It proves that Chinese products are cheaper than foreign ones.
B. It may change international perceptions of Chinese manufacturing.
C. It will encourage more young people to drop out of school.
D. It shows that European brands are no longer competitive.
45. Which of the following best describes Zhang Xue according to the passage?
A. A talented racer who succeeded through natural ability.
B. A determined person who overcame difficulties to chase his dream.
C. A wealthy businessman who achieved success through investment.
D. A well-educated engineer who designed motorcycles in college.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) (脑-机接口) are no longer just a concept from science-fiction novels. They are rapidly evolving technologies that establish a direct communication pathway between the human brain and external devices. By detecting and interpreting the electrical signals generated by the brain, BCIs hold the potential to revolutionize various aspects of our lives.
At the core of BCIs is the ability to measure brain activity. Electroencephalography(EEG) (脑电波) is one of the most commonly used methods. EEG devices consist of electrodes placed on the scalp, which pick up the tiny electrical signals produced by neurons in the brain. These signals can be classified into different types, such as alpha, beta, theta, and gamma waves, each associated with specific mental states like relaxation, concentration, or sleep.
One of the most promising applications of BCIs is in the field of healthcare. For patients with severe motor disabilities, such as those suffering from spinal cord injuries or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS) (肌萎缩侧索硬化), BCIs offer a new way to communicate and interact with the world. By simply thinking about a movement, patients can control external devices like robotic arms or wheelchairs, restoring a degree of independence that was previously out of reach.
In the field of gaming and entertainment, BCIs are also making waves. Imagine being able to control a character in a video game just by thinking about the actions you want it to perform. This not only provides a more immersive gaming experience but also opens up new possibilities for game developers to create innovative gameplay mechanics.
However, the development and widespread adoption of BCIs are not without challenges. One major difficulty is the complexity of interpreting brain signals accurately. The human brain is an incredibly complex organ, and the electrical signals it generates can be influenced by a variety of factors, including emotions, tiredness, and individual differences. Another challenge is the issue of privacy and security. Since BCIs collect highly personal and sensitive information about a person’s brain activity, protecting this data from unauthorized access becomes crucial.
Despite these challenges, researchers around the world are actively working to overcome them. New algorithms are being developed to improve the accuracy of signal interpretation, and strict security protocols (协议) are carried out to safeguard user data. As technology continues to advance, it is likely that BCIs will become more accessible, reliable, and user-friendly in the near future.
In conclusion, BCIs represent a concentration of neuroscience and technology. With their potential to transform healthcare, gaming, and many other fields, BCIs are set to play a significant role in shaping the future.
46. How do EEG devices measure brain activity in BCIs?
A. By analyzing the chemical composition of neurons.
B. Through electrodes placed on the scalp to pick up electrical signals.
C. By monitoring the blood flow in the brain.
D. Through sensors implanted in the brain to detect neural impulses.
47. In which field can BCIs help patients with severe motor disabilities regain some independence?
A. Healthcare. B. Education. C. Manufacturing. D. Transportation.
48. What is one of the challenges in the development of BCIs?
A. The inability to detect brain signals.
B. The high cost of manufacturing EEG devices.
C. Difficulty in accurately interpreting complex brain signals.
D. Lack of interest from the scientific community.
49. It can be inferred from the passage that in the future, BCIs will ______.
A. remain the technology only used in specific research labs
B. encounter even more unconquerable challenges
C. be widely used in various aspects of life after overcoming challenges
D. replace traditional input devices completely
50. What is the author’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To discuss the moral issues related to BCIs.
B. To compare different types of BCIs.
C. To persuade readers to support BCI research.
D. To introduce the concept, applications, and challenges of BCIs.
D
Lao Zi once said, “Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner.” People-pleasing, or seeking self-worth, through others’ approval, is unproductive and an exhausting way to go through life. Why do we allow what others think of us to have so much power over how we feel about ourselves? If it’s true that you can’t please all people all of the time, wouldn’t it make sense to stop trying?
Unfortunately, sense often isn’t driving our behavior. For social beings who desire love and belonging wanting to be liked, and caring about the effect we have on others, is healthy and allows us to make connections. However, where we get into trouble is when our self-worth is dependent upon whether we win someone’s approval or not.
This need to be liked can be traced back to when we were children and were completely dependent on others to take care of us: Small children are not just learning how to walk and communicate, they are also trying to learn how the world works. We learn about who we are and what is expected of us based on interactions with others, so, to a four-year-old, if Mommy or Daddy doesn’t like him or her, there is the danger that they will abandon them. We need to understand that when we desperately want someone to approve of us, it’s being driven by that little kid part of us that is still terrified of abandonment.
As you become more capable of providing yourself with the approval you seek, your need for external validation (认同) will start to disappear, leaving you stronger, more confident, and yes, happier in your life. Imaging how much time we lose every time we restrict our true selves in an effort to be liked.
If we base our worth on the opinions of others, we cheat ourselves of the power to shape our experiences and embrace life not only for others but also for ourselves because ultimately, there is no difference. So embrace the cliche (老话) and love yourself as it’s highly doubtful that you’ll regret it.
51. What can we conclude from Lao Zi’s quotation?
A. We should see through others’ attempt to make a prisoner of us
B. We can never be truly free if taking to heart others’ opinion of us.
C. We can never really please others even if we try as hard as we can.
D. We should care about others’ view as much as they care about our own.
52. What will happen if we base our self-worth on other people’s approval?
A. Our desire to be loved will be fulfilled.
B. Our life will be unfruitful and exhausting.
C. Our identity as social beings will be affected.
D. Our sense of self will be sharpened and enhanced.
53. What may account for our need to be liked or approved of?
A. Our desperate longing for interactions with others.
B. Our understanding of the workings of the world.
C. Our knowledge about the pain of abandonment.
D. Our early childhood fear of being deserted.
54. What can we do when we become better able to provide ourselves with the desired approval?
A. Enjoy a happier life. B. Exercise self-restriction.
C. Receive more external validation. D. Strengthen our power of imagination.
55. What does the author advise us to do in the last paragraph?
A. Embrace life for ourselves and for others.
B. Base our worth on others’ opinions.
C. See our experiences as resources.
D. Love ourselves as we are.
第Ⅱ卷
五、(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
In Sichuan Province, long-time resident French artist Vincent Cazeneuve, is integrating traditional Chinese lacquerware (漆器) skills with techniques taken from Western modern art into his creations.
Born in Toulouse, Vincent has been living in southwest China for more than a decade. With the influence of French artists Jean Dunand and Gaston Suisse, his journey to unravel the secrets of Chinese lacquerware and his fascination for lacquer art started. “I studied their artworks and often wondered why they used Chinese lacquer. In those days, lacquer could not be found in France.” said the artist.
Native to Asia, lacquer trees are planted and tapped for their liquid. It is almost impossible to find lacquer trees in Europe. So, instead of continually transporting lacquer back to France, Vincent chose to send himself to China.
Having explored his connections with lacquer over the years, the artist also learned a range of techniques, which he integrated into his own artworks. To dive deep into the art of lacquerware, Vincent traveled to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture (自治州) in Sichuan Province, where lacquer craftsmanship is famous. In fact, he actually met two lacquerware craftsmen, who taught him almost everything they knew.
“I used to know about lacquerware of Yi just by looking at it. But I had never seen the Yi people before. I have never heard their language. I've never seen their villages. It’s only when I came here that I felt the power of their culture.” said Vincent.
This field trip gave the artist new inspiration for his exhibition. After seeing Vincent’s exhibition, Liu Guanzhong, a professor at the School of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University said, “What he presents is China in his eyes. Vincent has explored a path: the ideas of a modern artist, but rooting the ancient skills in modern life. He finds new soil for an old seed to bloom into a new flower.”
