设计意图
Step 1: Lead-in & Warm-up (5 min)
Teacher’s activity:
Show the picture from “Look and share” (Chinese calligraphy, fan, paper cutting). Ask questions:
- What Chinese cultural elements can you see?
- Does the girl like Chinese culture? How do you know?
- If she learns from you, can you be a good teacher? What will you prepare?
Students’ activity:
Observe and answer. Discuss in pairs.
Step 2: Presentation – Greetings Around the World (10 min)
Activity 1 Learn new words
Show pictures and teach greetings in different countries:
Activity 2 Matching game
Match the greeting with the correct country.
Teacher asks:
If they meet for the first time and don’t know how to greet, how do they feel?
(Lead to words: surprised, embarrassed, confused)
Step 3: Listening Practice (12 min)
Activity 1 Pre-listening (2 min)
Students look at the pictures in 1a. Then match the words with the pictures.
Activity 2 While-listening
Task 1 Listen to three conversations at a party. Match the guests with their feelings:
Task 2 Listen again and complete the table (country + greeting):
Step 4: Language points (10 min)
Present three structures using sentences from the conversations.
1. surprised vs surprising ; embarrassed vs embarrassing
Rule:
-ed adjective → describes a person’s feeling (人“感到”)
-ing adjective → describes a thing/situation (事“令人”)
Examples:
• I was surprised at the news. The news was surprising.
• I felt embarrassed. The question was embarrassing.
2. as soon as (time clause)
Rule: 主句将来时,从句一般现在时 (主将从现)
Example:
• I will tell him as soon as I see him.
3 so … that (result clause)
Rule: so + adj./adv. + that + result clause
Example:
•It was so hot that we all went swimming.
4. unless (condition clause = if not)
Rule: 主句将来时,从句一般现在时
Example:
• You won’t pass the exam unless you study hard.
Practice: Do exercises on PPT slide 10 (fill in blanks, combine sentences).
Step 5: Role-play & Group Work (5 min)
Activity 1: role-play
In groups of 3, choose one conversation (1, 2 or 3) .
Read it aloud with correct intonation and emotion. Pay attention to the greetings.
Activity 2 Extension (if time allowed):
Students create a short, new dialogue at an “international party”. One student acts from Japan (bow), one from France (kiss), one from Korea (no kiss, embarrassed). Show feelings.
Step 6: Summary (3 min)
1.Greetings around the world are different.
2.Use -ed adjectives for feelings, -ing for describing things.
3.Use so…that, unless, as soon as correctly.
