Do you like walking? Walking around your neighbourhood is nice, but have you ever tried hiking? Hiking means walking for a long distance in the countryside, usually on paths or trails. It is a great way to exercise and enjoy nature at the same time.
Zhang Jie, a 13-year-old student from Changsha, went hiking with his father last spring. They chose a trail in a nearby mountain. "We started early in the morning. The air was so fresh," Zhang Jie said. "My father pointed out different birds and plants along the way. I learned many things that I never learned in school."
The hike lasted about four hours. They stopped halfway to have a simple lunch they had brought with them. "We sat on a big rock and ate our sandwiches. From there, we could see the whole valley below. It was the best meal I had ever had," Zhang Jie said.
Zhang Jie said hiking is different from walking in the city. "In the city, you walk past buildings and cars. But on a mountain trail, you see streams, trees, and wildflowers. Every step brings something new," he said. He now goes hiking at least once a month. "It is my favourite way to spend a weekend," he added.

What do you do with your old textbooks at the end of the school year? Throw them away? Sell them as waste paper? A group of middle school students from Nanjing found a creative way to give their old books a new life.
Last summer, fifteen students took a special trip to a small village school in Guizhou. Their backpacks were full of old textbooks, storybooks, and dictionaries that they had collected. "We noticed that our books were still in good condition after we finished using them," said Li Nan, one of the students. "We wanted to share them with children who needed them more."
The trip took about six hours by bus. When they arrived, they were surprised by what they saw. The village school had only three classrooms, and the bookshelves were almost empty. The children there had very few books to read.
"We spent the whole afternoon with the village children," Li Nan said. "We read stories to them, played games, and taught them English songs. They were so eager to learn. When we gave them the books, their eyes lit up. Some children even hugged the books like they were treasures."

An Unforgettable Journey
Of all the trips I have taken, the most unforgettable one was my trip to Mount Huangshan last summer. I went there with my parents.
We got up very early to watch the sunrise on the top of the mountain. When the sun finally came out from behind the clouds, the whole sky turned golden. It was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. We also saw the famous pine trees and strange rock formations. I took many photos to remember these moments.
This journey was unforgettable because it showed me the power and beauty of nature. Standing on the top of the mountain, I felt so small but also so free. I will never forget that feeling.
