They were insistent, unfolding in the blank spaces of her accounting textbooks as broken lines of poetry. The future had already been drafted by her parents: a degree in business, a stable job, security. Her writing was a “pleasant hobby,” a phrase that made her pen feel like a ghost in her hand. The conflict was not a single conversation but a quiet, constant pressure. Her father saw her notebooks as evidence of a dangerous, risky world. Her mother worried the stories were an escape from a real life that demanded practical things. Maya complied, studying spreadsheets by day, but at night, she fed a blog under a false name. That was her real voice, a whispered rebellion (反抗). Yet, the outside world offered no sanctuary. The comments on her blog felt like an X-ray. The other writers at the workshops she attended criticized her work with a tone she couldn’t bear. Rejections from magazines carried a sharper pain — they weren’t just rejecting a hobby, but the refined craft she’d worked so hard for! Then, a moment of recognition struck, though it came with its own cost. A literary journal accepted a story — but requested thorough revisions that would take apart its hopeful ending. For a week, Maya wrestled with it, feeling like refusing. Finally, she rewrote it. The new ending held both love and distance, ambition and sacrifice. It was published. After that, she began volunteering at a community center, not as a famous author, but as a fellow struggler. She showed teenagers her early drafts, full of red ink and doubt. “The conflict isn’t the obstacle to your dream,” she’d tell them. “It’s the material. Don’t write a fairytale. Write the storm. And then, write the person learning to stand in the rain.” Her ink was no longer just for dreams. It was for mapping the risky, beautiful, and completely unique territory of a real life being lived. 21. What is the root of Maya’s inner struggle? A. Choosing between two stable jobs. B. Living a double life between work and family. C. Balancing her dream with family’s expectations. D. Seeking a balance between reality and fantasy. 22. What does the underlined word “complied” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Obeyed. B. Panicked. C. Illustrated. D. Wondered. 23. What is Maya’s advice to the teenagers? A. Choose proper material. B. Turn storms into stories. C. Build castle before dreaming. D. Dream big and dare to fail. B In our fast-paced, stressful lives, we’re often turning to social media, online shopping, or gaming to escape daily pressures. However, the experience can often be the opposite, leaving us more exhausted. This begs the question: do we scroll because we’re stressed, or are we stressed because we scroll? To better understand the subtle (微妙的) relationship of stress and internet use, particularly how specific online behaviors influence stress levels, Belal’s team, from Finland’s Aalto University, conducted one of the first studies. They recorded real-world internet usage through tracking software installed on participants’ devices. Combined with a large sample size and a lengthy observation period, the findings offer especially valuable insight into how online habits tie in with stress. The study, published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, collected internet usage data from around 1,500 adults over a seven-month period, comprising nearly 47 million web visits and 14 million app sessions. When compared with participants’ self-reported stress levels from questionnaires, researchers found a strong link between internet use and increased stress, particularly among those who already experienced daily stress. Women consistently reported higher stress levels than men, while stress tended to decrease with age and wealth. Not all online activities were equal, though. The study found that extended time spent on social media, online shopping, and gaming platforms was associated with higher stress levels compared to activities like checking emails or reading the news. There are always concerns over internet life, especially increasing social media engagement, and some countries, such as Australia, banned social media for anyone under 16. The researchers hope that by gathering more detailed information about people’s internet habits, they can eventually develop concrete recommendations and tools that support healthier, more regulated online engagement. Juhi Kulshrestha, assistant professor at the Department of Computer Science, cautions against oversimplified solutions. She believes that blanket bans on internet use may overlook the emotional support certain online spaces provide. And it’s really crucial to study these issues further so the chicken and egg problem can be solved. The research team plans to explore how different types of news — political, entertainment, or sports coverage — affect stress, helping further clarify the internet’s complex role in mental health. 24. Why did Belal’s team conduct their research? A. To compare job-related stress levels. B. To prove why internet use results in stress. C. To create apps to help lower stress in adults. D. To study how stress interacts with internet use. 25. What is a feature of the research method? A. Focusing on a specific age group. B. Collecting large-scale real data over time. C. Conducting nationwide online interviews. D. Using lab experiments to measure stress levels. 26. What does Juhi warn against? A. Painting everything with the same brush. B. Judging a book by its cover. C. Sacrificing tomorrow for today. D. Counting your chickens before they hatch. C Killer whales hunt fish with sounds such as clicks and buzzes — they choose and chase their prey with sound waves. But a common feature of modern ocean life may be like a salmon’s invisible cloak (鲑鱼的隐形斗篷), making the whales’ favorite meal harder to find. What is to blame? Boat traffic noise. Ocean noise has been increasing over the years, and an international research team recently reported in Global Change Biology that when the water got too noisy, whales spent more time looking for food but caught fewer fish. The study tracked every move and sound that individual killer whales made, as well as the sound reaching those whales. This is the first time scientists have linked noise reaching a given killer whale to their foraging (觅食) success, says lead author Jennifer Tennessen. The noise problem is one that Tennessen views as chronic (慢性的), yet possibly more straightforward to fix than declining fish populations or pollution — ships could simply slow down to make less noise. Fortunately, with the guidance of both governmental and nongovernmental groups, some ship operators are slowing down. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority in Canada reported in 2023 that 87 percent of ships slowed or moved over for southern resident whales in critical habitat, which led to a decrease of 4.2 decibels (分贝) compared to 2019, before slowdowns began. Washington ports and other local authorities join in a program of voluntary slowdowns in Washington waters called Quiet Sound, which offers information on killer whale locations. About 70 percent of ships follow Quiet Sound’s guidelines and voluntarily slow down in killer whale critical habitat. The talk about innovations in propeller (螺旋桨) technology is also positive. A propeller, for example, is based on a design for a quieter drone propeller. If claims of a more efficient and quieter boat propeller are true, that’s good news for both reducing fuel use and quieting traffic. Tennessen says increasing ship noise is a problem in oceans around the world. “We’re finally able to measure the impacts that it’s having on wildlife,” she says, “and we’re finding that the impacts are numerous.” 27. Why does the author mention a salmon’s invisible cloak? A. To introduce the feature of sound waves. B. To emphasize the invisibility of salmons’ cloak. C. To describe the environment in whales’ hunting. D. To demonstrate the characteristic of whales’ hunting. 28. What do the statistics indicate in paragraph 4? A. Noise reduction is ineffective. B. Ship operators ignore guidelines. C. Quiet Sound prioritizes noise monitoring. D. Voluntary slowdowns lead to noise reduction. 29. What is the significance of propeller technology innovations? A. To reduce fuel efficiency. B. To address noise issues. C. To follow Quiet Sound’s guidelines. D. To help measure influences on wildlife. 30. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Ships Slow Down for Whales. B. Killer Whales Battle Noise Pollution. C. Boat Noise Clouds Whale Foraging. D. Technology Innovations Silence Propellers. 第二节(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Street names help us figure out where we are. This can be understood both literally and metaphorically. Some names, like 125th Street, are just descriptions. But often, streets are named after people, which places us in a historical or political context too. Not far from where my brother lives in north London is a street called Kitchener Road. Just behind the lamp post was an old sign, made of thick iron, bearing the name. 31 That sign seems to say this person was and still is deserving of recognition. But Kitchener Road reminded me of Britain’s history of colonial (殖民地的) rule, as the Kitchener (1850-1916) was a cruel British military officer across Asia and Africa. Saying street names are markers of history attracts two types of criticism. One is that it’s nothing more than a storm in a teacup. Street names don’t really matter. 32 But honoring people responsible for killing through street names preserves a celebratory view of that past and normalises it in daily life. So what should we do? 33 Another option is the Amsterdam approach. There, a street honoring anti-apartheid (反种族隔离) leader Albert Luthuli has a sign noting: “Formerly: Louis Botha street,” named after a prime minister of colonial South Africa. Where such names remain, people are creating walking tours to provide full context. In Glasgow, a tour was organized to make people know about the city’s role in the enslavement of people. 34 It builds thoughtful ways forward locally. Walking away from Kitchener Road, I thought of a different Kitchener: the legendary Trinidadian calypso musician. Upon arriving in England, he sang London is the Place for Me. If Kitchener Road must keep its name, I’d prefer to imagine they honor the “King of Calypso,” not the colonial butcher. 35 A. Residents rarely notice the street names. B. My view is that such streets be renamed. C. Perhaps we should consider the evidence. D. Perhaps that is a take-back we can all adopt. E. Another, changing these names erases history. F. This kind of practice is creative response to damaging histories. G. To name a street after a person is a way of honoring their achievements. Some people were born gifted, but I wasn’t. I showed her the bag. I was hiding behind my back and followed her to her bedroom — all to herself, unlike the one I shared with my sister. But envy struck when I saw the newest doll on her shelf with a stylish wardrobe (全套服装). To me, Reba was the luckiest girl. Yet I wanted to level the playing field with one of the birthday presents I was expecting. Settled on the floor, I presented my hand-me-down doll — a figure with unbiased (不直的) legs, dated hair, faded fabrics, and mismatched shoes. Meanwhile, everything about Reba’s doll, from its silly hair to cool sunglasses, said young and free. With a click, Reba folded its knees, settled it behind the wheel of its tiny convertible (敞篷车) car and rolled it away with a goodbye wave to mine. As night fell, it was time to head home. We parted with a promise to compare our dolls another day. I knew a convertible was a fantasy, so my birthday wish was simple: a genuine, store-bought fashion set for my doll, anything brand new. My parents always did the best they could for my sisters and me, and I knew my mom would take my request to heart. Finally, the big day arrived. Mom offered her gift — a humble shoebox. I lifted the top carefully. The shoebox was full to the top, but as I pulled out the top piece, my heart sank. It wasn’t a store-bought set. I knew that fabric — it was from my own outgrown clothes. “Brand-new and never been worn by a doll!” Mom said. “I made these outfits just for you!” She was so proud of her accomplishment. I swallowed my disappointment and ran over to hug her. She must have been secretly working at her sewing machine for weeks, carefully cutting out patterns, choosing fabrics, adding tiny details with her needle and thread and an abundance of patience. All so my doll could look her best. But they were not what I had desired, after all. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Reba invited me over to play a few days later. “Lucky you!” Reba said, her eyes shining with envy. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 唐山一中2025-2026学年第二学期期中考试 高一年级 英语答案 卷Ⅰ(满分85分) 一、听力(每小题1.5分,满分30分) 1-5 ABACC 6-10 ABACA 11-15 ABBCC 16-20 BBCAC 二、阅读(每小题2.5分,满分25分) 21-23 CAB 24-26 DBA 27-30 CDBC 三、七选五(每小题3分,满分15分) 31-35 GEBFD 四、完形填空(每小题1分,满分15分) 36-40 BCADA 41-45 BDCAB 46-50 ADABC 卷Ⅱ(满分65分) 语法填空(每小题1分,满分10分) 51. has been referred 52. curiosity 53. successfully 54. to go 55. the 56. that 57. becoming 58. when 59. achievements 60. I put my shoebox under my arm, knocked on the door and prepared to be envious. “Look! I got three fashion packs!” she announced, spreading them on the bed. And I hesitantly opened my shoebox. Reba peered in, then carefully lined up a couple of my outfits beside hers. “They’re … not store-bought,” I said quickly before she could point it out. “My mom made them.” Reba grew quiet, studying each piece and holding some up to the light. Her curiosity slowly melted into a different expression-one I recognized deeply, because I’d worn it myself not long before. “Lucky you!” Reba said, her eyes shining with envy. She gently took one of them, her fingers tracing the fine needlework. “May I?” she whispered, holding it up to her doll. “Look,” she breathed. “It fits perfectly.” She then tried each piece on her own doll. “Fashion packs are common,” she whispered, “but your shoebox holds stories.” Reba’s words hit me like a second chance to see. W: Oh, I’m afraid there aren’t, but we expect some to come in very soon. Text 5 W: Tom, you’re late. M: Sorry, I actually woke up early to catch the first bus as usual. W: Then what happened? M: I went back home to fetch my homework halfway to the bus stop, so I only caught the second bus. Text 6 M: Can I borrow your phone? Mine is dead, and I can’t find my charger. W: Sure. M: Thanks. Hey, what’s wrong with your screen? It’s all dark and the colors look strange. W: Oh! I’ve been using an app called “Sunset” to help me sleep at night. M: Really? How? W: Well, studies show that too much blue light from screens can make sleeping difficult. So, in the evening, the app puts a red shade over the screen to cancel it out. M: Oh, interesting. Does it help? W: Yeah, I think so! I also listen to white noise, which helps me fall asleep, too. Text 7 M: Fenny, if you’re in London tomorrow, I’ve got two tickets for the American Ballet Theatre! Would you like to come? W: Thanks, but I’ll be busy tomorrow. M: No problem. Maybe another time. Do you have plans? W: Yes, I’ll meet Katie at the Olympia Exhibition Centre. Remember her? We went to the same art school. Some of her designs are going to be exhibited there. She is hoping one of the big clothing companies might buy them. M: Setting her sights high, isn’t she? W: Yeah, she is aiming high. But she has what it takes to get there. Text 8 W: Hey, Dave! What’s your major anyway? M: Hotel Management. W: Well, what do you want to do once you graduate? M: Uh…I think I’d like to work for a hotel or travel agency in this area. How about you? W: Well, when I first started college, I majored in French, but I realized I might have a hard time finding a job using the language, so I changed my major to Computer Science. With the right skills, landing a job in the computer industry shouldn’t be as difficult. M: So, do you have a part-time job to support yourself through school? W: Well, fortunately, I have received a four-year academic scholarship that pays for all of my school fees and books. M: Wow. That’s great! Text 9 M: What’s wrong? W: Oh, it’s just this news story I’m reading. M: What’s it about? W: It’s about an animal shelter in Kraków. A few weeks ago, the weather forecasts were predicting temperatures of around - 20℃. M: That’s cold … W: True. But the shelter didn’t have enough indoor space. Many dogs were being kept outside, and there was no way they would have survived. M: So, what did the shelter do? W: They called for local people to take the dogs in, just until the weather warmed up again. And they received amazing responses. All 123 dogs found homes for the time being. M: Wow, that’s great! W: Even the police, who came to issue parking tickets to cars around the shelter, ended up taking a dog back to the station! M: No way! W: Better yet, after the weather warmed up, only 30 dogs were returned to the shelter. Most people decided to keep them. M: Well, I’d call that a happy ending. So… why are you crying? W: I don’t know! It’s just so lovely when people all pull together to help those in need. Text 10 M: Hello, everyone. In today’s program, we’ll get to know the characteristics of some states in the United States. Florida has a lot of amusement parks and tourist spots. The sunshine state is also known for its oranges. So whatever you eat for breakfast, there will be a tall glass of delicious orange juice. Having the country’s largest population of Cuban Americans, Florida features Latin American cuisine. If Disney World is out of your price range, you can still get an excellent meal in Florida. Anyone looking to eat healthily on their next vacation should consider the beaver state Oregon. Oregon has gained a hearty reputation for its organic food. It serves up fresh fruit and vegetables. Of all the produce, the pear should be at the top of your list. It’s the state’s official and best-selling tree fruit. It produces nearly 800 million pears yearly. Oregon’s food isn’t just varied but also perfect for eating on the go. You can enjoy a plentiful meal while exploring the state’s natural wonders. In next edition, we’ll talk about the yellow hammer state Alabama and the potato state Idaho. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
