One report by Ember, a global energy group, says the world’s solar and wind farms produced more electricity than coal power plants for the first time. The world produced nearly one-third more solar power in the first half of 2025 than in the same period last year. The growing solar power met 83% of the increase in world’s electricity demand (需求). ▲ Together, they filled nearly all of the global growth in electricity demand.
“This milestone is an important turning point,” says Malgorzata Wiatros-Motyka, the writer of the report. She thinks the growth of clean power has finally caught up with demand. “Solar and wind power are now growing fast enough to meet the world’s growing needs for electricity,” she said. “This marks clean power is developing at the same speed as the growing electricity demand.”
According to Ember’s report, China added more renewable (可再生的) energy than the rest of the world together. And another report by the International Energy Agency shows China has been the world’s biggest growing market for renewables. The following explains the success:
● In 2023, China spent about $ 700 billion on clean energy — almost the same amount as that of all other countries together.
● In 2024, China added 356.61 gigawatts (千兆瓦) of new wind and solar power capacity, which is more than Germany’s total power capacity.
● In 2024, China’s coal use increased by 1.7%, while its share (份额) of total energy use fell by 1.6%, compared with that of 2023.
● China makes 80% of the world’s solar panels and is the No.1 seller of wind turbines and batteries, helping many countries change to cleaner energy too.
However, in the U. S., electricity demand grew faster than renewables growth, leading to a 17% rise in coal power. And in the E. U., a weather-related drop in wind and hydropower caused more use of gas and coal, even though solar power was developing rapidly.
56. Which sentence can be put in ▲ in Paragraph 1?
A. Besides, wind power grew by over 7%.
B. In fact, solar panels have become much cheaper than before.
C. As a result, many countries stopped building new power plants.
D. However, coal power still remained the main source of global electricity.
57. What does the underlined word “This milestone” refer to?
A. Solar and wind power have replaced the use of gas and coal.
B. 83% of the world electricity was from wind power in 2025.
C. The world’s coal power plants are developing at a rapid speed in 2025.
D. Rising wind and solar power nearly met global electricity growth demand.
58. Which picture shows coal use and its share of total energy use in China (2023-2024)?
A. B.
C. D.
59. How did the U. S. deal with its growing energy demand?
A. By producing more solar power.
B. By increasing the use of coal power.
C. By raising the output of wind and hydropower.
D. By controlling the growth speed of energy demand.
60. Which would be the best title for the text?
A. Global Renewables: Wind Stands Out
B. Global Energy: Renewables Share Rises
C. World Energy Increase: Gas & Coal Go Up
D. World Electricity Demand: Solar Panels Lead

Teamwork: Together We Can Achieve More
Teamwork means working together with others to achieve a common goal. It is an important skill that helps us in school, at work, and in life.
Why is teamwork so important? First, teamwork allows us to combine different strengths. When we work together, we can do things that one person cannot do alone. Second, teamwork helps us learn from each other. Third, teamwork teaches us communication and cooperation skills.
Research shows the power of teamwork clearly. A recent study compared how much work was finished in the same amount of time. The results are shown in the bar chart below:
Work Output in 8 Hours (Tasks Completed)
Individual: 5 tasks
Pair: 12 tasks
Small team of 4: 27 tasks
As the chart shows, we can safely conclude that working in pairs or small teams completes much more than working alone. However, good teamwork doesn’t happen automatically. Here are some tips for being a good team member. First, listen to others carefully. Everyone’s opinion matters. Second, do your part of the work on time. Don’t let your team down. Third, be respectful even when you disagree. Finally, celebrate success together and learn from failure together.
Many great achievements are the result of teamwork. The Great Wall of China was built by thousands of workers. Modern technology is created by teams of engineers, designers, and programmers. Even in sports, no single player can become a champion without the support of a team.
Remember, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” By working as a team, we can achieve more than we ever imagined.
