According to ABC News, since Europeans settled Australia in 1788,more than 9,000
insects have disappeared.Unfortunately, with the arrival of pesticides(杀虫剂),this trend
has increased over the past 30 to 40 years.
Clancy Lester,23,a master's student in biology, has loved nature documentaries since he
was very young. This love of nature has led him to take a lead role in trying to save more than
2,000 native Australian bee-species.Clancy joined the First Nations,a group of people concerned
about the reduction in their traditional honey harvests. What he learned led him to set up a
website that teaches people how to create their own bee hotels.
Not all bees live in hives()In fact, many of them enjoy being alone, and they need
places to shelter and lay their eggs. With a decrease in habitat, humans can step in by creating
structures with multiple "rooms"to serve as a home for numerous species of bees. These are
called bee hotels.
Clancy told Pursuit some nesting bees prefer materials such as bamboo reed.Ground
nesting bees, however, prefer mixtures of sand and soil built into earth blocks to nest in.
Some cities are using bee bricks to provide homes. But,no matter what type of bees, they all
require morning sun and food resources, such as flowers nearby.
In addition to building homes for native bees,Clancy said making use of grassy natural
spots around cities to help promote insect biodiversity is a good idea."We could transform
many of these areas we have everywhere into pollinated()gardens and create habitats
linking different parks,"he said.
Clancy's work as the Bee Man shows that even small acts can make a huge difference. For
a person,a bee hotel could be just a wood project of a few minutes, but for a bee it could be
the continuation of a species.
28.What speeds up insect disappearance according to the text?
A.Human settlement.
B.Pesticide use.
C.The lack of food.
D.The loss of hives.

Researchers at Hebrew University of Jerusalem(HUJI)developed a machine learning
model that can predict()the quality of tomatoes before they are harvested.
The study, published in the Computers and Electronics in Agriculture scientific journal,
found a new method that could make harvesting tomatoes easier, more cost-effective and
sustainable.
The HUJI researchers worked with researchers from Bar-Ilan University in Ramot Gan to
use hyperspectral imaging(高光谱成像)to develop the learning model that showed a high level
of prediction accuracy(准确).
This new method allows farmers to monitor quality parameters()that include firmness
and weight according to a press release from Hebrew University."We did the research with
the purpose of bridging the difference between advanced imaging technology,AI,and practical
farming needs,"Dr.David Helman from the Hebrew University's Robert H.Smith Faculty of
Agriculture,Food, and Environment, said in the press release.
"This work has the potential to change quality monitoring not only in tomatoes but also in
other crops. Our next step is to build a low-cost device(ToMAI-SENS)based on our model
that will be used across the fruit value chain, from farms to consumers."
With a growing world population and the need to grow 70 percent more food, using AI
could go a long way in meeting the challenge. There are many uses for AI in agriculture from
increasing crop output, automated weed control,as well as using satellites to predict droughts.
There are even robot pickers that know which fruit is ready to pick.
An Israeli startup Tevel Aerobotics Technologies developed flying autonomous robots
that can pick fruit.Founder and CEO Yaniv Maor used AI to teach the robots about each
fruit, the trees, how to access the fruit, and how to pick it.The startup's robots are picking
pears in Israel and other fruits in Europe and the US.
The potential uses for AI in farming are growing quickly. All of these advancements will
go a long way to feeding a hungry world.
32.What does the text say about the machine learning model?
A.It is time-consuming.
B.It is unpopular.
C.It is more accurate.
D.It is low-cost.
33.What do the researchers aim to do?
A.Connect AI to agricultural applications.
B.Help farmers plant the quality tomatoes.
C.Advance the quick development of robotics.
D.Widen the difference between AI and farming.
【高一第二次月考·英语试卷第5页(共8页)】
25-T-829A
34.Why does the author mention the startup in paragraph 7?
A.To praise several AI companies.
B.To show the uses of AI in agriculture.
C.To honour the experts of robot pickers.D.To emphasize the challenges in using AI.
35.What could be a suitable title for the text?
A.The History of Tomato Farming
B.Why Farming Is Important
C.A Guide to Growing Tomatoes
D.How AI Is Reshaping Farming

How to Use Less Plastic When You Are on the Road
Plastic can take many years to break down,so it's a matter of urgency that we all need to
reduce plastic use.The good news is that small changes in our travel habits can make a big
difference.36
Stop buying bottled water. This is important because understandably one of the main
concerns for travelers is access to safe drinking water. However, there are other solutions
that do not involve buying plastic bottles everywhere you go.37 That's because most
hotels usually offer boiled water.
38 It's really easy to find lightweight, reusable bags that can pack up small and go in
the pocket of your backpack on the road.If you always have a few with you wherever you go,
then you are sure not to need to use plastic bags.
Use a bamboo toothbrush.Bamboo is biodegradable(可降解的)and grows rapidly,making it
an ideal alternative to plastic.Adopting a bamboo toothbrush is a simple yet powerful step
toward sustainable travel.39 The great part about travelling with a bamboo toothbrush is
that everyone else will see you using it and might be inspired to reduce their plastic usage too!
Bring a camping bowl.40 However,the convenience often comes at a cost-single-use
plastic containers piled high in landfills. If you travel with your own camping bowl, you could
save a lot of that plastic going straight into the trash can.
A.Plan ahead for your travel.
B.Carry reusable shopping bags.
C.You can take a refillable bottle.
D.This is key for anyone's plastic-free journey.

第二节
One possible version:
The audience was completely silent as I spoke the first sentence. My voice trembled, but I pressed on,
determined to finish what I had started.I shared personal stories of honesty and its impact on my life, each word
slowly building my confidence.I glanced at the teacher, who nodded encouragingly, and my classmates, who
leaned forward in their seats, their expressions a mix of anticipation and support.I continued,my voice
steadying,as I delved deeper into the importance of honesty in everyday interactions.
When I finished the speech, allmy classmates stood up and cheered.I stood there, momentarily stunned,
as the reality of what I had accomplished sank in.The same classmates who had once made me shrink in the
back of the room were now on their feet, clapping and shouting my name.I felt a surge of pride and
accomplishment,a feeling I had never experienced before.I realized that moment was not just the end of a
speech but the beginning of a new chapter in my journey of self-discovery and growth.
