Correctly use the past continuous tense to describe actions that were happening at a specific time in the past.
Use when and while to connect two simultaneous actions and choose the appropriate conjunction according to the context.
Complete the grammar exercises in textbook sections 4a–4c, and accurately apply the target grammar in real-life contexts.

侧重:两个动作同时进行
技巧
后面是短暂动词(come/arrive/stop/see)→ 只能用 when
后面是延续动词(read/wait/study/work)→ when / while 都可以
口诀
when 接瞬间动作,while 接延续动作;
when 可长可短,while 只接长动作。
构成
肯定:was / were + 现在分词(doing)
单数(I/he/she/it) → was doing
复数(we/you/they) → were doing
否定:was/were + not + doing
一般疑问:Was/Were + 主语 + doing…?
过去进行时
二、用法
去某一时刻正在做某事
侧重过去具体时间点正在进行
I was doing my homework at 8 last night.
昨晚八点我正在写作业。
某段时间内一直在做They were watching TV all evening yesterday.

3. 一个长动作进行时,突然发生短动作(when)
He was walking in the street when it began to rain.
他正走在街上,突然下起雨。
4. 两个过去动作同时进行(while)
While I was reading, my mom was cooking.
我看书的时候,妈妈在做饭。

四、动词变化规则(doing)
直接+ing:work→working
不发音e结尾去e+ing:write→writing
重读闭音节双写尾字母+ing:sit→sitting,
ie结尾变y+ing:lie→lying
五、和一般过去时区别
过去进行时:强调当时正在做,过程
