expect to do sth.
“such a/an+形容词+可数名词单数+that...” 以至于……”,这里“a great day”是名词短语,所以用such。so 通常用于“so+形容词/副词+that...”结构;too一般用于 “too...to...”
根据“The rain is so...”,此处需要形容词来描述雨的大小,heavy“大的”符合语境。

Fifteen people died and 28 were missing after flash floods hit Yuzhong County and nearby areas in Lanzhou, Gansu Province. CCTV reported this news, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, according to the local flood control office.
Heavy rains from Thursday to Friday caused the disaster. The rain was very heavy. In some places, 220 millimeters (毫米) of rain fell in just 15 hours. That’s more than half of what the area gets in a whole year! The floods damaged many things: roads were washed out, power lines fell down, and some houses were destroyed. Over 30,000 people had to leave their homes. They couldn’t get clean water or electricity easily.
Two important roads were badly hit: the S104 highway and Xinghuang Road. Nearly 40 kilometres of these roads were damaged. These roads are very useful. People use them to carry food and other goods, and to go from one place to another. Now that the roads are closed, it’s hard for workers to deliver (运送) aid to those in need. It’s also difficult for people to go out daily.
But many people are working hard to help. By 6 p.m. on Friday, the provincial transport department (省交通部门) had sent more than 40 big machines, like diggers, and over 200 workers. They worked to fix the roads. So far, they have opened three parts of the S104 highway and four parts of Xinghuang Road again.
Other workers are trying to fix the power and water. Many companies are giving help too, like sending tents and food. The rescue and repair work is still going on. Everyone hopes things will get better soon.
33.How much rain fell compared to the area’s usual yearly rain?
A.Double the yearly rain. B.Over half of yearly rain.
C.About 1/3 of yearly rain. D.Exactly half of yearly rain.
34.What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.heavy rains B.the floods C.people D.power lines
35.What does the underlined word “diggers” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Tools cleaning water. B.Doctors saving people.
C.Machines fixing roads. D.Helicopters (直升机) finding people.
36.What is the report mainly about?
A.How many people were hurt. B.Why the heavy rain happened.
C.Money lost from road damage. D.The flood’s harm and help given.
37.Why does the writer give numbers of machines and workers?
A.To say help came too late. B.To compare different helpers.
C.To explain why power went out. D.To show how hard people are working.
33.第一段提到“In some places, 220 millimeters (毫米) of rain fell in just 15 hours. That’s more than half of what the area gets in a whole year!”,这直接表明有些地方15小时的降雨量超过了该地区全年降雨量的一半。
34.第二段“The floods damaged many things: roads were washed out, power lines fell down, and some houses were destroyed. Over 30,000 people had to leave their homes. They couldn’t get clean water or electricity easily.”
35.第四段“the provincial transport department (省交通部门) had sent more than 40 big machines, like diggers, and over 200 workers. They worked to fix the roads.”
37.第四段提到省交通部门派了40多台大机器和200多名工人去修路,结合前文道路损坏严重以及后文“So far, they have opened three parts of the S104 highway and four parts of Xinghuang Road again.”
At the start of this term, I made two money goals. The first was to save for a second-hand bike, because I wanted to ride to school in spring. The second was to give part of my pocket money to a class charity sale. My brother laughed when he heard this. He said it would be difficult to save for myself and help others at the same time. I knew he might be right, but I still wanted to 38 .
To begin with, I stopped buying snacks every afternoon. I also took a water bottle from home instead of buying drinks at school. The changes looked small, yet they made a real difference. Every weekend, I put the saved money into two boxes. One box was marked “Bike”, and the other was marked “Charity”. The labels helped me remember that money should be used with a clear 39 .
There were moments when I almost gave up. Once I saw a model car in a shop window and wanted it badly. It was not too expensive, and I had enough money in my pocket. Still, when I thought about my two boxes, I walked away. I knew that a small choice today could affect a bigger plan tomorrow. Self-control, I discovered, is not a talent people are born with. It is a habit that grows through repeated 40 .
Two months later, our class held the charity sale. I used the money from one box to buy some handmade bookmarks and sold them with my classmates. We raised more money than we had expected, and our teacher said every small contribution mattered. That day I felt a kind of happiness that shopping could not easily 41 .
A week after the sale, I counted the money in my other box. It was enough for the bike I had wanted. When I finally rode it home, I understood something new. Saving money is not only a way to get things. It can also teach us patience, responsibility and care for other people. The value of money does not lie only in what it can buy, but also in the 42 behind each choice.
My brother no longer laughs at my plan. In fact, he has started keeping a small savings box of his own. He says he wants to save for a football and also give money to an animal shelter. Maybe good money habits can spread from one person to another. Sometimes a simple plan is enough to 43 someone else to start.
38.A.hide B.try C.guess D.complain
39.A.purpose B.colour C.size D.price
40.A.choices B.mistakes C.classes D.gifts
41.A.describe B.fix C.offer D.invent
42.A.stories B.decisions C.numbers D.coins
43.A.force B.allow C.invite D.encourage
38.B 39.A 40.A 41.C 42.B 43.D

Is it possible to live without money?
Everyone knows that money is important. We use it every day to buy food, clothes, and other things we need. But can a person live without it? Mark Boyle, a writer from Ireland, wanted to find out the answer. So, he decided to live without money for a time.
Mark found an old caravan (旅行拖车), repaired it, and parked it on a farm near Bristol, working as a volunteer so that he could stay for free. Since he couldn’t pay for electricity, he had to live without it. He used a wood-burning stove (火炉) to keep warm, made from parts he found in a rubbish bin.
Mark also built a simple stove using old olive oil cans so that he could cook food. Because it wasn’t safe to use indoors, he cooked outdoors—even in winter. At first, he didn’t like the idea. But later, he enjoyed cooking outside, saying it helped him feel more connected to nature.
Before starting, he bought solar panels to power a small light, his laptop and a phone—but only to receive calls. In winter, with little sunlight, he planned his online time carefully.
Food was his main concern (担忧) at first, but he managed by growing vegetables and collecting wild mushrooms, nuts and berries.
To keep clean, Mark built an outdoor toilet and used newspaper. He washed in a river or with a solar shower, but he didn’t use soap. He brushed his teeth with wild seeds.
Life without money took time and effort—washing clothes by hand and finding food daily, but Mark said, “We spend so much time getting and spending money. I’d rather spend time living.”
Task1: Answer the questions.
44.What did Mark Boyle decide to do?
45.Where did he live during his life without money?
46.Without electricity, how did he cook his food safely?
47.Why did Mark need to plan his online time carefully in winter?
48.What does the underlined sentence mean?
Task 2:
49.If Mark continues to live like this for a long time, what will his life be like? Write in about 30 words.
44.He decided to live without money for a time. 45.He lived in an old caravan on a farm near Bristol. 46.He built a simple stove using old olive oil cans and cooked outdoors. 47.Because in winter, there was little sunlight, so the solar panels couldn’t provide enough power for his online activities. 48.It means that people usually spend a lot of time on earning and spending money, while Mark prefers to spend time on actually living. 49.His life will be simple and close to nature. He’ll keep growing food, using natural resources, and spending more time enjoying life rather than chasing money.
44.第一段明确提到“So, he decided to live without money for a time.”,所以答案是原文直接信息。
45.第二段指出“Mark found an old caravan (旅行拖车), repaired it, and parked it on a farm near Bristol, working as a volunteer so that he could stay for free.”,说明他住在布里斯托尔附近农场的一个旧旅行拖车里,这是原文中的具体表述,直接提取。
46.第三段表明“Mark also built a simple stove using old olive oil cans so that he could cook food. Because it wasn’t safe to use indoors, he cooked outdoors—even in winter.”,即他用旧橄榄油罐做了一个简易炉灶并在户外做饭,这是原文直接信息。
48.最后一段“We spend so much time getting and spending money. I’d rather spend time living.”

To make our school life more colorful, our class held a classroom fashion show last Friday.
First, we brought our favorite clothes to the classroom. Second, we introduced our clothes and described the colors, styles and why we liked them. Then we held the fashion show right in our classroom. We cheered while models were walking on the runway between the desks. After the show, everyone wrote a short passage about the fashion show. This helped improve our writing skills, too.
The fashion show not only made English learning fun but also brought our class closer together. I hope we can have more activities like this in the future!
