This summer I came face-to-face with three deep-rooted fears: heights, bears, and ageing.
Two friends joined me on a four-day wilderness getaway, and since we were all in our seventies, we decided we’d better go while we still could. Our adventure began with a scary drive up a winding mountain road.
On one hike, I found myself hanging onto a wire on a bridge made of two partly rotten (腐烂的) logs, suspended high above rushing rapids. I would never have attempted it without our guide ahead, mouthing encouraging words. Fixing my eyes on her boots, I inched along the shaky logs. Somehow, I made it across, flooded with a rush of intense excitement and huge relief.
Later, after spotting bear tracks, we were told to make loud noises, which soon became a game once the tension faded.
Until suddenly, time stood still.
We had just crossed a stream when the guide whispered, “There’s a bear.” I looked up in disbelief and saw not one, but two, about ten meters above us— the brown mother in front, her cub behind.
Though scared speechless, I couldn’t help noticing how beautiful they looked in their natural setting. I wondered if it would be my last memory. As they started towards us, we recovered enough to shout and wave our hiking poles. Taken aback, they stopped, and then slowly turned away. Another fear was overcome!
On our final morning, after a quiet, thoughtful walk through the forest, we were asked to bring back a “meaningful” stick, rock, and leaf to share what would “stick” with us, what “rocked,” and what we would “leaf” behind. The bond of friendship would stick with me. Women supporting one another truly rocked. And I hoped to leave some fears behind.
Our guide ended by expressing her admiration, praising not only our fitness but also our positive attitude, and saying she hoped to be like us in another thirty or forty years. Those unexpected words warmed my heart and eased my fear of being “over the hill.” Being valued for what we had accomplished felt like winning an Olympic medal — even if just for participation.
24. How did the author cross the bridge?
A. By taking mindful steps. B. By rushing across it bravely.
C. By using her sense of direction. D. By having the guide drag her over.
25. Why did the bears leave?
A. They were attracted by the natural setting. B. They were afraid of the noise of the rapids.
C. They were surprised at the group’s actions. D. They were threatened by the guide’s rocks.
26. Why did the guide ask them for a stick, rock, and leaf?
A. To pick up some souvenirs. B. To reflect on the journey.
C. To symbolize their teamwork. D. To check their observation skills.
27. What does the underlined phrase “over the hill” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Past the peak of youth. B. Too high to go down.
C. Out of place in society. D. Beyond physical limits.
A 25. C 26. B 27. A
根据第三段的句子“Fixing my eyes on her boots, I inched along the shaky logs.(我盯着她的靴子,小心翼翼地沿着摇晃的圆木慢慢挪动。)” 故选A项。
根据第六段的句子“As they started towards us, we recovered enough to shout and wave our hiking poles. Taken aback, they stopped, and then slowly turned away.(当它们开始向我们走来时,我们缓过神来,大声呼喊并挥舞登山杖。它们吃了一惊,停了下来,然后慢慢转身离开。)”可知,熊被作者一行人的呼喊和挥杖动作吓到,因此转身离开。故选C项。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段的句子“On our final morning, after a quiet, thoughtful walk through the forest, we were asked to bring back a “meaningful” stick, rock, and leaf to share what would “stick” with us, what “rocked,” and what we would “leaf” behind.(在我们旅行的最后一个早晨,我们在森林里安静而沉思地走了一段之后,被要求带回一根“有意义的”木棍、岩石和树叶来分享哪些会“留存”在我们心中,哪些“震撼”了我们,以及我们愿意“放下”什么)”可知,向导通过这些自然物品引导大家反思旅程中的收获与感悟。
结合前文提到的“we were all in our seventies(我们都七十多岁了)”以及“ageing(变老)”这一主题,“over the hill”指的是已过青春巅峰、年老体衰的状态。故选A项。
C
After being treated for an infection at the VCU Medical Center’s hospital, 81-year-old Robert Diegelmann completed his 10-day hospital visit, when his doctor suggested he continue his treatment at home, some 15 miles away. With nurses visiting twice a day, and round-the-clock access to a clinician via phone, he gained a quick recovery in his comfortable home.
Like Diegelmann, tens of thousands of hospitalized patients have received medical treatment in their own homes since the hospital-at-home program was carried out in some countries. It began in some regions of Australia in the 1990s, when the local government was under financial stress. Physical hospitals faced the great challenge of limited medical resources. So patients with certain medical conditions had to be hospitalized at home, which was seen as a quick fix for the great demand for hospital beds. The first hospital-at-home trial in the United States, however, had a different motivation. For some homebound elders with certain health problems, it was inconvenient for them to receive timely treatment. A medical research team at Johns Hopkins University set up a tiny pilot project for 17 patients. It turned out highly satisfactory and cost-effective for certain severely ill elders.
Advocates say home hospitals are particularly beneficial to some immunocompromised (免疫功能低下的) patients. They are less likely to get exposed to infections common in traditional hospitals. Despite the enthusiasm from supporters, more people need persuasion. “When a patient is home, things like changing and bathing do shift onto the household caregiver. It is quite tiring,” says Megan O’Reilly, a vice-president in the Medical Affairs Unit. And the Center for Economic and Policy Research notes that the government has not developed regulations (规则) for home hospitals equal to those that apply to regular hospitals. It also questions the reliance on telemedicine and remote monitoring.
For the future of home hospitalization, it is expected to see more in-depth studies. But even then, hospital-at-home programs must win over patients, who have a choice between traditional and home treatment.
28. Why does the author mention Robert Diegelmann in paragraph 1?
A. To express concern about elders’ health. B. To present a new form of medical service.
C. To predict the future of medical technology. D. To show the demand for professional doctors.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. How home hospitalization was started. B. Why physical hospitals were questioned.
C. What challenges home hospitalization faced. D. When patients accepted home hospitalization.
30. What does Megan O’Reilly think of home hospitalization?
A. It weakens the patients’ trust. B. It reduces the efficiency of treatment.
C. It breaks medical regulations. D. It increases the load of patients’ family.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Putting Effort into Medical Service B. Upgrading Home Medical Facilities
C. Bringing the Hospital into the Home D. Programming Home Service for Elders
B 29. A 30. D 31. C

Traditional robotic systems lean heavily on satellite-based GPS, whose signals are unstable in extreme geographical conditions. However, future robots will independently conduct search-and-rescue missions or explore dangerous environments with a level of reliability. Yet the most significant barrier to this autonomy is navigation (导航).
In response to this challenge, researchers have turned their attention to nature. Nature has spent hundreds of millions of years evolving the art of navigation. The first inspiration comes from insects’ ability to track their own movements relative to a starting point. The second mode is based on birds’ multisensory capabilities to integrate information from several sensory channels. The other one draws inspiration from rodents (啮齿类动物), whose brains enable them to build maps of their surroundings. Rather than adopting a single biological strategy, researchers have built a unified framework that combines them together. Each contributes a different form of spacial awareness and solves a different aspect of the navigation puzzle, and together they provide a system capable of supporting long-term autonomy.
To determine whether the system could withstand real-world conditions, researchers have conducted extensive field experiments in challenging environments — from abandoned mines to thick forests where GPS signals fail entirely. The results are striking. The robots stay on course significantly longer with accuracy and the system demonstrates up to 60% higher energy efficiency. The most impressive achievement is its resilience to sensor failure. The moment the robots’ primary sensors break down, multiple subsystems will step in, ensuring continuous performance without human intervention.
The emerging era of autonomous exploration begins with a simple insight borrowed from nature: This capacity is not the product of a single perfect system but the harmony of multiple ones. In this sense, robots will become more than machines. They will become partners capable of operating independently in the most demanding environments on Earth and beyond, guided by the evolutionary genius of the natural world.
32. How does the author present the issue in paragraph 1?
A. By giving an example. B. By defining a concept.
C. By making a contrast. D. By explaining a theory.
33. What is a feature of the newly-built navigation framework?
A. It employs combined biological strategies.
B. It contains a single form of spacial awareness.
C. It enhances animals’ multisensory capabilities.
D. It solves the same aspect of the navigation puzzle.
34. What does the underlined word “resilience” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. The effort to increase efficiency. B. The ability to function normally.
C. The intention to explore actively. D. The capacity to analyze situations.
35. What does the author want to convey in the text?
A. Humans can exist in harmony with nature.
B. Nature remains humans’ greatest engineer.
C. The application of navigation is widespread.
D. Autonomous exploration regains popularity.
C 33. A 34. B 35. B
根据第一段“Traditional robotic systems lean heavily on satellite-based GPS, whose signals are unstable in extreme geographical conditions. However, future robots will independently conduct search-and-rescue missions or explore dangerous environments with a level of reliability. Yet the most significant barrier to this autonomy is navigation (导航).(传统机器人系统严重依赖卫星GPS,其信号在极端地理条件下不稳定。然而,未来的机器人将以一定的可靠性独立执行搜救任务或探索危险环境。但这种自主性的最大障碍是导航。)”可知,作者将传统依赖GPS的机器人系统与未来需要自主导航的机器人进行对比,引出导航这一核心问题。故选C。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Rather than adopting a single biological strategy, researchers have built a unified framework that combines them together. Each contributes a different form of spacial awareness and solves a different aspect of the navigation puzzle, and together they provide a system capable of supporting long-term autonomy.(研究人员没有采用单一的生物策略,而是构建了一个将它们结合在一起的统一框架。每一种都提供了不同形式的空间感知,解决了导航难题的不同方面,共同构成了一个能够支持长期自主性的系统。)”可知,新导航框架的特点是采用了多种生物策略的结合。故选A。
根据第三段“The moment the robots’ primary sensors break down, multiple subsystems will step in, ensuring continuous performance without human intervention.(当机器人的主传感器发生故障时,多个子系统会介入,确保在无人干预的情况下持续运行。)”
根据最后一段“The emerging era of autonomous exploration begins with a simple insight borrowed from nature: This capacity is not the product of a single perfect system but the harmony of multiple ones. In this sense, robots will become more than machines. They will become partners capable of operating independently in the most demanding environments on Earth and beyond, guided by the evolutionary genius of the natural world.(自主探索的新时代始于一个从自然界借鉴的简单洞见:这种能力不是单一完美系统的产物,而是多个系统的和谐统一。从这个意义上说,机器人将不仅仅是机器。它们将成为能够在地球乃至太空最苛刻的环境中独立运行的伙伴,由自然界的进化智慧所引导。)”可知,作者想传达的核心是自然界一直是人类最伟大的工程师,为技术研发提供了灵感。故选B。

When students come to school dressed in their own clothes, they may feel pressure to keep up with the latest trends or worry about what their peers might think. This can lead to feelings of anxiety and social exclusion. ____37____ No one child is better or worse off because of what they are wearing. This removes the constant comparisons and competition that can be stressful for some students, and instead, establishes a sense of belonging and community.
Wearing a uniform also simplifies the lives of parents and teachers. There is no more worrying about what to wear or stressing about finding the perfect clothing for a special occasion. Parents can distribute more time and resources to their children’s education, and teachers can focus on teaching, rather than policing students’ dress codes. ____38____ Sustainability and reusability are their main characteristics.
When students wear the same uniform, they feel a sense of belonging and identity with their school. ____39____ Uniforms reflect the values and principles of a school, such as teamwork, discipline, and respect, which are essential for a positive and productive learning environment.
____40____ It requires careful consideration of the benefits and drawbacks, as well as consultation with all interested parties. By weighing the pros and cons, schools can make an informed decision that prioritizes the well-being of all students.

Sumi’s daughter Anna had always been called “Number 23.” Every time the school released exam results, Anna would always end up in 23rd position among 50 pupils. Always 23, regardless of topic or term. Every time Sumi heard that nickname, it caused her concern.
When Sumi stayed with her friends, their discussion nearly always turned to their children. You know how it goes-one parent discusses their child’s piano honors, another boasts about math olympiads or leadership responsibilities. While others were honoring these “great youngsters,” all Sumi could think about was Anna and her unpleasant nickname, Number 23.
Sumi had done everything to help Anna with school-hired professional tutors, bought fancy stationery, even packed brain food. And Anna tried. She gave up sketching, paper cutouts, and many others. She moved from one class to another, endlessly trying. But then the indicators started showing-she lost her appetite, couldn’t sleep, and sweated all the time. Eventually, she got terribly sick. That was when Sumi gave in. She stopped pressing and Anna bounced back to being the cheery little child they knew.
One day, Sumi and her friends went on a weekend trip with their families. During lunch, two kids got into a heated quarrel over a single slice of dessert. No one could calm them down. Then Anna stepped in. “Let’s flip (抛) a coin,” she said. Simple as that. Boom-problem solved. Everyone was astonished.
Later, on the journey back, they got delayed in traffic. The kids were getting restless. Anna? She started delivering jokes like a big sister. Even the adults laughed. Then she took the leftover candy boxes and started changing them into animals-paper elephants, lions, and birds. Before everyone said goodbye, she presented one to each youngster as a gift. The other parents were shining with appreciation. For the first time in years, Sumi felt something well up in her chest-pride.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Not long after, Sumi got a phone call from Anna’s class teacher.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
That afternoon, Anna returned home, the Class Star certificate in hand.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
Not long after, Sumi got a phone call from Anna’s class teacher: The teacher’s voice was filled with warmth as she said, “I’m just calling because I have some wonderful news about Anna.” She then explained that Anna had been selected for the Class Star award for her exceptional social skills and creative talents. Almost every kid voted for her. Sumi felt her eyes moisten as she listened, remembering all the times she had focused solely on academic rankings. “Anna was a genuinely remarkable child and I’m really proud of her,” the teacher added.
Paragraph 2:
That afternoon, Anna returned home, the Class Star certificate in hand. She smiled brightly and told her mother, “I think my friends voted for me because they like my paper animals and jokes.” Sumi hugged her tightly and said, “You’re a beautiful angel, Anna. I didn’t realize my little girl was a real-life hero.” Looking at Anna’s happy face, Sumi now realized that every child has their own unique strengths that cannot be measured by grades alone. Being Number 23 didn’t define her daughter’s worth-it was simply one small part of the wonderful person she was becoming.
①选择:select/choose
②拥抱:hug/embrace

B
D
