五、阅读表达
Having a good memory is the key to learning effectively. But if you’ve ever found it hard to remember information even after reading your notes repeatedly, perhaps you’re not studying in the best way.
While there are many methods that can help you remember things better, the most effective ones involve making meaningful connections between pieces of information. This idea is called the Baker/baker paradox (贝克悖论),and it was proved in an experiment.
In the experiment, researchers divided people into two groups and showed them a photo of a man’s face. The first group was told the man’s name was Baker, while the second group was told the man worked as a baker.A few days later, the researchers asked both groups about the man’s identity (身份).
The result was surprising.People remembered the man’s job more easily than his name, even though both words were the same. Why did this happen? After all,the word “baker” was the same for both groups.
Here’s the reason:When you hear that someone works as a baker, your mind connects this fact to a network of meaningful ideas. You might picture someone baking bread, wearing a tall white hat,or smelling of freshly baked goods. These connections create a story in your brain, making the information easier to recall.
In fact, the name “Baker” doesn’t form the same kind of meaningful connections. It’s only linked to the man’s face, which is a weak connection. If you forget the face, you may also forget the name completely.
The Baker/baker paradox shows that memory works best when new information is tied to meaningful stories or images. So,if you want to remember something better, try linking it to a story or something familiar. This simple trick can make all the difference.
