The Qingming Scroll (清明上河图), painted by Zhang Zeduan (张择端) in the Northern Song dynasty, is a world-famous Chinese artwork. Painted on a 5-metre-long silk scroll, it shows life in Bianjing (today’s Kaifeng), the capital of the Northern Song dynasty in the 12th century. Now it is kept in the Palace Museum in Beijing; this scroll has survived through time and become a national treasure.
The scroll has three main parts. The first part shows a quiet rural scene near Bianjing, with farmers working in the fields. The second part presents the busy Bian River and the central bridge, where boats come and go, and people walk through the city gate. The third part describes the lively city life, with people from all walks of life—butchers, hairdressers, officials—doing their daily work. Together, these parts let us see the real life of Bianjing’s people.
Zhang used ink on silk to create realistic scenery, buildings and people. His precise brushwork and great skill in showing details make the scroll amazing. You can study it for hours and always find new things. The painting also reveals 12th-century Chinese customs, clothing and business practices. While it looks peaceful at first, some details show social and political problems and reflect the decline of the Northern Song dynasty.
Today, the original scroll is very delicate and seldom shown to the public. But people’s love for it never fades. It not only shows high artistic value but also helps us understand ancient Chinese life, making it a lasting gift to Chinese art and future artists.
1.How many main parts does the Qingming Scroll have?
2.Where is the Qingming Scroll now?
3.What does the whole Qingming Scroll show us?
4.Why does the scroll look amazing?
5.People’s love for the Qingming Scroll never fades, does it?
6.Besides visiting the Palace Museum, what else can you do to know more about the Qingming Scroll? Please list TWO ways.

About 20 years ago, Zhou Baokang noticed a small clay toy called taiping nijiaojiao (太平泥叫叫) at a temple fair in Huashan village, Zhenjiang. As someone who loves folk art, he was immediately drawn to it. Today, the 63-year-old Zhou is an inheritor (继承人) of this traditional art form and has spent years protecting and promoting it.
At first sight, taiping nijiaojiao looks like an ordinary clay toy. However, it can also be used as a whistle (哨子). This art form dates back more than 1,000 years to the Southern Dynasty (420–589). Many nijiaojiao pieces use traditional cultural elements that stand for good wishes, such as fish, animals and plum blossoms.
Anyone can learn to make taiping nijiaojiao. The most important step is shaping the clay by hand. Instead of using sketches (草图), artists use their fingers and imagination to turn a piece of clay into animals or plants. Simple tools like combs or spoons are often used to make patterns, such as creating the lines of a fish tail. For coloring, different kinds of paint can be used.
Zhou especially enjoys making nijiaojiao in the shape of animals. Every year, he designs pieces based on the Chinese zodiac sign (生肖), using simple and eye-catching parts to show each animal’s spirit. To pass on this skill, Zhou has taught children in schools for many years and opened a folk art museum. He also combines nijiaojiao with daily items like pen-holders and tea sets, helping this ancient art stay alive in modern life.
Task 1:
1.Where and when did Zhou Baokang first notice taiping nijiaojiao?
2.What is the most important step in making a taiping nijiaojiao?
3.How do artists shape the clay instead of using sketches?
4.What specific theme does Zhou Baokang use for his designs every year?
5.What has Zhou Baokang done to pass on the skill of making taiping nijiaojiao?
Task 2:
6.The passage says Zhou was “immediately drawn to” the clay toy because he loves folk art. Have you ever felt “drawn to” a traditional handicraft or artwork? What was it, and what made it special to you? Please share your ideas in about 30 words.
【答案】1.(He first noticed it) about 20 years ago at a temple fair in Huashan village, Zhenjiang. 2.(The most important step is) shaping the clay by hand. 3.They use their fingers and imagination to turn a piece of clay into animals or plants. 4.He uses the Chinese zodiac sign for his designs every year. 5.He has taught children in schools for many years, opened a folk art museum, and combined nijiaojiao with daily items like penholders and tea sets. 6.Yes, I have. I was drawn to Chinese paper-cutting. Its delicate patterns and hidden symbols of luck and happiness made ordinary red paper feel magical and full of meaning. (any reasonable answer will be acceptable)

The Future of Driving
Every morning, millions of people around the world get into their cars and drive to work. But what if the car could drive itself? That future may not be far away.
Self-driving cars, also known as autonomous vehicles (AVs), use sensors, cameras, and artificial intelligence to navigate roads with little or no human input. Companies like Waymo and Tesla have already tested thousands of self-driving cars on public roads.
The benefits of self-driving cars could be huge. First, they promise to make roads much safer. According to studies, over 90% of car accidents are caused by human errors such as distracted driving or speeding. Self-driving cars don’t get tired, drunk, or distracted. They follow traffic rules strictly. Second, they could help people who cannot drive themselves——such as the elderly or people with disabilities——gain more independence. “For millions of people with disabilities, self-driving cars promise newfound freedom,” said one expert.
However, there are still many challenges. The technology is very expensive, and not everyone can afford it. Many people also worry about safety. Can we really trust a computer to make life-or-death decisions on the road? Moreover, if self-driving cars become common, millions of professional drivers——such as taxi drivers and truck drivers——might lose their jobs.
Some experts believe that fully self-driving cars will be on our roads within the next ten years. Others say it will take much longer. One thing is certain: self-driving cars will change the way we travel, work, and live. The question is not if they will arrive, but when.
1.What do self-driving cars use to navigate roads?
2.According to studies, what causes most car accidents?
3.Why could self-driving cars be especially helpful to elderly or disabled people?
4.What is the possible disadvantage of self-driving cars mentioned in the passage? (List ONLY ONE)
5.Is the author certain that self-driving cars will become common in the future?
6.Task 2: Do you think self-driving cars are a good invention? Please write down your own understanding. (About 30 words)

Robot Sharks Are Here to Help
Two sharks were swimming fast in West Lake. Their bodies were dark and shiny, and their fins (鱼鳍) cut through the water like knives. Wait a second—sharks in a lake? How could that be? They are not real sharks, but robots! Their job is to help visitors find lost phones and other things in the water. Let’s hear what their engineer has to say.
Why sharks? Sharks are great swimmers. About two thirds of their bodies can bend (弯曲) and twist (扭动). So they can swim fast and turn quickly. When a robot shark swims in a pond, goldfish often follow it. Because they think it’s their new friend!
Can it swim like a real fish? Not quite yet. Real fish are faster because of their soft muscles (肌肉). The robot shark’s body is harder. But scientists are still improving it. Maybe one day, it’ll swim just like the real fish!
Task One: Answer the questions. (回答问题)8%
1.What are the robot sharks in West Lake used for?
2.Why are sharks chosen to be the shape of the robots? List two reasons.
3.How long can the robot shark swim with its battery?
4.Is the robot shark faster or slower than real fish? Why?
Task Two: Writing (读后创写)6%
5.Think and write: If you can make a “robot animal” to help humans, what animal will you choose (a robot bird, a robot dog, or a robot…)? What can it do? (In 30 words.)
【答案】1.To help visitors find lost phones and other things in the water. 2.Sharks are great swimmers; they can swim fast and turn quickly. 3.For four hours. 4.Slower. Because real fish have soft muscles while the robot shark’s body is harder. 5.I would choose a robot bird. It can fly high to rescue people in mountains, deliver medicine to faraway villages, and watch over forests to stop fires.

Is it possible to live without money?
Everyone knows that money is important. We use it every day to buy food, clothes, and other things we need. But can a person live without it? Mark Boyle, a writer from Ireland, wanted to find out the answer. So, he decided to live without money for a time.
Mark found an old caravan (旅行拖车), repaired it, and parked it on a farm near Bristol, working as a volunteer so that he could stay for free. Since he couldn’t pay for electricity, he had to live without it. He used a wood-burning stove (火炉) to keep warm, made from parts he found in a rubbish bin.
Mark also built a simple stove using old olive oil cans so that he could cook food. Because it wasn’t safe to use indoors, he cooked outdoors—even in winter. At first, he didn’t like the idea. But later, he enjoyed cooking outside, saying it helped him feel more connected to nature.
Before starting, he bought solar panels to power a small light, his laptop and a phone—but only to receive calls. In winter, with little sunlight, he planned his online time carefully.
Food was his main concern (担忧) at first, but he managed by growing vegetables and collecting wild mushrooms, nuts and berries.
To keep clean, Mark built an outdoor toilet and used newspaper. He washed in a river or with a solar shower, but he didn’t use soap. He brushed his teeth with wild seeds.
Life without money took time and effort—washing clothes by hand and finding food daily, but Mark said, “We spend so much time getting and spending money. I’d rather spend time living.”
Task1: Answer the questions.
1.What did Mark Boyle decide to do?
2.Where did he live during his life without money?
3.Without electricity, how did he cook his food safely?
4.Why did Mark need to plan his online time carefully in winter?
5.What does the underlined sentence mean?
Task 2:
6.If Mark continues to live like this for a long time, what will his life be like? Write in about 30 words. (写30个词左右。)
【答案】1.He decided to live without money for a time. 2.He lived in an old caravan on a farm near Bristol. 3.He built a simple stove using old olive oil cans and cooked outdoors. 4.Because in winter, there was little sunlight, so the solar panels couldn’t provide enough power for his online activities. 5.It means that people usually spend a lot of time on earning and spending money, while Mark prefers to spend time on actually living. 6.His life will be simple and close to nature. He’ll keep growing food, using natural resources, and spending more time enjoying life rather than chasing money.
【导语】本文主要讲述了来自爱尔兰的作家Mark Boyle想要探寻不使用金钱是否能生活下去,于是他决定在一段时间内不使用金钱生活,详细介绍了他在不使用金钱情况下的生活状况以及他的感悟。

3.第三段表明“Mark also built a simple stove using old olive oil cans so that he could cook food. Because it wasn’t safe to use indoors, he cooked outdoors—even in winter.”,即他用旧橄榄油罐做了一个简易炉灶并在户外做饭,这是原文直接信息。
4.第四段提到“In winter, with little sunlight, he planned his online time carefully.”,结合前文他靠太阳能板供电,可知冬天阳光少,太阳能板无法为他的上网活动提供足够电力,所以答案是基于原文信息的合理推导。
5.最后一段“We spend so much time getting and spending money. I’d rather spend time living.”
Who really owns the lucky money?
A 12-year-old boy recently refused to give his 20,000-yuan lucky money to his mother. It started a heated discussion online.
The mother said the lucky money was just a return gift between families. Parents usually give red envelopes to other children first, and the money their child gets is part of the exchange. So she thought ____2____.
But the boy said the money was a personal gift to him. He should have the right to control it.
I agree with the boy. Lucky money is given to me, not to my parents. It is my own money. I can save it or buy what I need, like books and stationery (文具). If parents take all the money away, we can never learn to manage money.
I don’t agree. Lucky money is not a free gift. It is part of our family culture. When my parents give red envelopes to others, the money I get is just the exchange. If I keep too much money, it will bring pressure to my parents. Also, many teenagers may waste money on games or snacks.
We should talk about financial education, not just who owns the money. We can open a bank account in the child’s name. The money can be divided into savings and daily costs. In this way, children can learn to plan money, and parents can still help and guide them.
Task 1 Answer the questions (回答下列问题)
1.What did the mother think the 20,000-yuan lucky money was?
2.What do you think might be the mother’s opinion? Complete the sentence.
3.According to Li Hua, how can children deal with their lucky money?
4.Why doesn’t Jia Xing think children should keep too much money?
5.What does Professor Li suggest doing with the lucky money?
Task 2 Express your own ideas (表达你自己的想法)
6.Who do you agree with, Li Hua, Jia Xing or Professor Li? Share your opinion and give two reasons in about 30 words.
【答案】1.She thought it was just a return gift between families /part of the exchange when parents give red envelopes to other children. 2.the money should belong to the family /she should have the right to take the money /the money is hers to control. 3.They can save it or buy what they need, like books and stationery. 4.Because keeping too much money will bring pressure to parents, and teenagers may waste money on games or snacks. 5.Open a bank account in the child’s name, and divide the money into savings and daily costs, so children can learn to plan money and parents can help guide them. 6.I agree with Jia Xing. Lucky money is part of our family cultural, and teenagers may easily waste the money on games or snacks without parents’ proper guidance. (答案不唯一,回答合理即可)
【导语】本文围绕“压岁钱归属权”展开讨论,呈现了不同角色的观点,并给出了理性处理建议。

2.文中提到“Parents usually give red envelopes to other children first, and the money their child gets is part of the exchange.”,说明这位母亲的观点是这笔压岁钱应该归父母所有。
3.文中提到“I can save it or buy what I need, like books and stationery.”,说明根据李华的观点,孩子们可以存起压岁钱,或购买自己需要的东西,比如书籍和文具。
4.文中提到“If I keep too much money, it will bring pressure to my parents. Also, many teenagers may waste money on games or snacks.”,说明贾星认为孩子保留太多钱会给父母带来压力,且青少年可能会把钱浪费在游戏或零食上。
5.文中提到“We can open a bank account in the child’s name. The money can be divided into savings and daily costs.”,说明李教授建议以孩子的名义开设银行账户,将压岁钱分为储蓄和日常开支两部分。
6.本题为开放性试题,答案不唯一,回答合理即可,注意字数在30词左右。
Read the passage and complete the tasks.(根据短文内容完成任务。)
Louis, a cheerful boy from the French countryside, became totally blind by the age of five. The accident happened when he tried to make a hole in leather with a sharp tool, which slipped and hurt his left eye badly and lost its sight. Soon after, his right eye also lost its sight due to an infection of optic neuritis (视神经炎). Eventually, he became completely blind. At first, life was scary and challenging for him, but with his family’s love, he soon learned to feel his way around the house and memorize the positions of everything with his hands. His father, Simon-René, encouraged him not to give up on reading and made a special nail board with alphabet bumps for him to touch and recognize letters.
Later, Louis was sent to the world’s first school for blind children in Paris. There, he was excited to read books with stamped letters (凸印文字) and quickly finished every book in the school library. When Captain Barbier visited the school and showed a dot-based writing system for soldiers and the blind, Louis found its 12 dots per symbol too complex and realized it lacked numbers and musical notes, so he decided to improve it.
During the summer holidays, Louis worked diligently on a new system under a shady tree in his backyard. He simplified the design to 6 dots, arranged in two columns of three (两列三行), which fit perfectly under a fingertip and could represent letters, numbers and various symbols. At 15, he proudly presented his creation to his teachers and Captain Barbier, who were all amazed by his clever idea.
Louis’ 6-dot system was an immediate hit among his classmates. They happily used it to write poems and dreamed of reading novels printed with these dots. Little did Louis know that his small invention would one day change the world for blind people everywhere. He smiled softly, thinking to himself, “________”
Task 1: Answer the questions.
1.Why did Louis become totally blind?
2.What did Louis’ father make to help him learn to read?
3.What was the problem with Captain Barbier’s writing system?
4.How many dots did Louis use in his new writing system?
5.What’s the main idea of the passage?
Task 2:
6.Based on Louis’s story, write down what he was thinking to himself. Write sentences in about 30 words.
【答案】1.Because a sharp tool slipped and hurt his left eye when he was three, and soon after, his right eye also lost its sight due to an infection of optic neuritis. 2.His father made a special nail board with alphabet bumps for him to touch and recognize letters. 3.It had 12 dots per symbol, which was too complex, and it lacked numbers and musical notes. 4.He used 6 dots in his new writing system. 5.It tells how Louis, a blind boy, created a simple dot-based writing system that would help blind people around the world. 6.If this dot system helps blind people read easily, I hope it can bring the pleasure of reading to every blind person around the world.

Long ago, in a village in the Netherlands, lived a hot-tempered princess. She loved running wild in the woods, returning with tangled hair that made her nurse struggle to comb. The king, who adored his daughter, worried she couldn’t be a good ruler without controlling her temper.
One day, the king wandered to an old oak tree he’d saved years before. The rustling leaves seemed to speak, “Make a wooden-barrel skirt for the princess to teach her a lesson.” A grateful bull also told him to use its horn to make a fine comb.
Lightning soon struck the oak, and the bull lay still. The king followed their words—he had the oak made into a skirt and the horn into a comb.
Later, a blue flower named flax (亚麻) grew where the oak fell. Villagers learned to weave flax into soft linen (亚麻布). When the princess became queen, she wore twenty linen skirts instead of the wooden one. The village became famous for its linen, and even centuries later, brides there still wear twenty skirts as a tradition. But one day, a young girl from a neighboring village visited and asked the queen about the wooden skirt. The queen smiled, took out the well-kept wooden skirt, and said, “This is not just a piece of wood. It’s the start of our village’s fashion story. And do you know, this story also has a special secret that connects fashion with kindness?”Task 1: Answer the questions.
1.Why did the king worry about his daughter?
2.What did the oak tree’s leaves tell the king to do?
3.What was the comb made of?
4.What did the villagers weave into linen?

Natural disasters are powerful, but humans are not completely helpless. By working together and using technology, we can reduce the damage they cause and protect ourselves. Here is how we fight back.
First, we use technology to get early warnings. Scientists use special tools to watch the earth and sky closely. They can often tell us when a big storm, flood, or earthquake might be coming. For example, before a typhoon hits the coast, weather stations send out warnings. This gives people time to prepare, such as moving to a safer place or storing food and water.
Second, we build stronger and smarter structures. Engineers design buildings that can stand against the power of nature. In places with many earthquakes, buildings are made to sway a little instead of breaking. In coastal areas, strong walls can help to keep the ocean waves away. For instance, Japan has built high sea walls to protect its towns from tsunamis.
Third, community cooperation is the key. When everyone works together, we become stronger. People practise evacuation drills regularly so they know what to do when a disaster really happens. Neighbours check on each other, especially the elderly and children. After a disaster, rescue teams and volunteers from the community and beyond work day and night to help those in need.
Some people think we cannot win against nature’s power, and it is true that we cannot stop disasters from happening. However, by preparing well and helping each other, we can greatly reduce the harm they cause. Our best “weapon” is knowledge, preparation, and unity.
In short, with early warnings, strong engineering, and community spirit, we can build a safer world even in the face of natural disasters.Task 1:
1.How many main ways to fight against natural disasters does the passage mention?
2.What is the purpose of early warnings before a typhoon?

Task 2:
5.Imagine you are the leader of your school’s Safety Club. Your town has just received an early warning for a coming typhoon. Based on the passage, write a short speech to tell your schoolmates what they should do to prepare for it. (Use your own words at least 30 words.)
【答案】1.Three main ways. 2.To give people time to prepare, such as moving to a safer place or storing food and water. 3.They are made to sway a little instead of breaking. 4.Because when everyone works together, people become stronger. They can practise evacuation drills, check on each other, and help those in need after disasters. 5.Hello, everyone! A typhoon is coming. First, please stay calm. We should help our families prepare an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight. Also, remember to stay indoors when the typhoon comes. Let’s check our classrooms to make sure all windows are closed. Finally, listen to the latest news. Let’s work together to stay safe! (Any reasonable answer is OK.)

Read the passage and complete the task.
An earthquake is dangerous. But this doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. Your choices can help save your life.
_______________________. The first several seconds are important.
If you are inside during an earthquake, hide under a table or desk. Protect your head. Keep away from windows and things that could fall on you.
If you are outside, move away from buildings and street lights. They could fall and hurt you.
If you are in a crowded room away from the door, don’t rush to the exit. You will find too many people trying to get out at the same time. Instead, hide under a desk or table. Don’t use an elevator. You may get trapped.
Stay in a safe place until you are sure it’s OK to leave, Some aftershocks (余震) may follow an earthquake. These are as dangerous as the earthquake.
If you are in debris (废墟), try to free your hands and legs. Shouting will use up your energy. Try to find some water and food. They are important for you if you aren’t rescued in a short time. Wait for help.
Mary, a middle school student, once experienced an earthquake. Finally, she successfully escaped from the 3rd floor of a tall building. In an interview, she told the journalist about her way of escape.

An eight-year-old boy, Alex, has a plan to help his best friend, Lily, live a more independent life. Lily was born with spinal muscular atrophy, a rare disease that makes her muscles (肌肉) very weak. She cannot walk or move by herself and must use a wheelchair. Her present wheelchair is old and uncomfortable, and it does not meet her daily needs, which makes it difficult for her to go to school or play with friends.
Alex decided to take action. He set a challenge for himself: to run a total of 22 miles over six weeks in order to raise enough money to buy Lily a new wheelchair. His father encouraged him from the beginning. “Helping others is important,” his father said, “and it makes you feel strong inside.” Alex trained carefully every day, even when the weather was cold or rainy.
Lily was very touched by his efforts. “I’m proud of Alex,” she said. “He runs so fast and raises money for me. I feel really happy. Every time he runs, we cheer together, ‘Go, Alex, go!’”
The new wheelchair costs £2,000, but Alex is already close to reaching his goal thanks to donations from neighbours, friends and schoolmates. When asked why Lily is such a good friend, Alex explained, “She is always kind to me. We play together, talk about everything, and share secrets. She’s my best friend.”
Alex also described how he finds strength during his runs: “Sometimes it’s really hard to keep running, and my legs feel tired, but I think ___________________. That thought keeps me going.”

(写30个词左右。)
5.What tradition has been kept in the village for centuries?
Task 2: Writing.
6.Based on the passage, write down when the princess wore the wooden skirt and what changes happened to her after wearing it. Write sentences in about 30 words.
