It’s only a statue,” the man says. “Come on. I’ll open the case. You look for the gold medallions.” While Bert tries to open the case, Dacty flies down and grabs Eric. Then he looks up and sees his friend high above on the statue. Just then Dacty flies down again and grabs the second thief. He lifts him in his beak and carries him up to the statue. Maybe because they can understand our words much better than we thought, according to a study in Hungary. It found that dogs understand not only what we say, but also how we say it. “The results were very exciting and very surprising,” said researcher Attila Andics, from Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest. For the study, the researchers first trained 13 dogs for months. The dogs had to sit quietly inside machines, so that the researchers could check their brain activity. Then the researchers put headphones on dogs and played people’s voice s to them. There were four different voices: some were positive words, such as “well done”, or neutral (不带感情色彩的) words like “however”. The words were also in different tones (音调): some were positive and some were neutral. Brain scans (扫描) showed that the dogs could recognize (辨认) words, as well as the tone of words, much like people do. The positive words with a positive tone brought the stronger activity in their brain’s reward centers (反应中枢). “It shows that for dogs, a nice phrase can work very well as a prize, but it works best if both words and tones match,” said Andics. They also found that dogs deal with meaningful words with the left side of the brain and tones with the right. Human brains work in the same way. “It gave us a new understanding of language,” said Andics. “That is, not only do humans understand the meaning in words, other species (物种) do too.” 36.What was found according to the study in Hungary? A.Dogs can’t understand people’s words. B.Dogs can only understand what we say. C.Dogs can understand what we thought better than our words. D.Dogs understand what we say as well as how we say it. 37.Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the study? A.Researchers worked with the dogs. B.Researchers made dogs sit inside machines. C.Researchers scanned the dogs’ brains. D.Researchers played people’s voices to the dogs. 38.Dogs think _______ as a best prize. A.neutral words with a neutral tone B.neutral words with a positive tone C.positive words with a neutral tone D.positive words with a positive tone 39.According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE? A.Human brains don’t work in the same way as dogs’ do. B.Researcher Attila Andics was surprised at the results of the study. C.The researchers trained the dogs for years to check their brain activity. D.Dogs deal with meaningful words with the right side of the brain. 40.What is the main idea of the passage? A.Dogs are as clever as humans. B.Dogs are good at learning humans’ language. C.Dogs can understand the meaning in words. D.Dogs can do what humans do. 【答案】36.D 37.A 38.D 39.B 40.C 【导语】本文主要讲述了狗理解我们说话的能力比我们想象中要好得多,它们不但能理解我们说的什么,也能理解我们说话的方式。 36.细节理解题。根据“Maybe because they can understand our words much better than we thought, according to a study in Hungary. A.neutral words with a neutral tone B.neutral words with a positive tone C.positive words with a neutral tone D.positive words with a positive tone 39.According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE? Different from long summer and winter holidays, the spring break is a short but meaningful vacation in spring, usually lasting for two to three days. This year, in many areas of Jiangsu and Sichuan, there was a longer holiday of up to six days because of the Qingming Festival. During the break, students are encouraged to get close to nature, go on family trips, read more books or develop hobbies. Teachers often give light or no homework, allowing students to relax both body and mind. Some schools also design special spring-themed tasks, such as studying plants, recording spring scenes or drawing pictures. They change the outdoor world into a lively classroom. However, the spring break also brings new problems. Many working parents are too busy with their jobs to look after their children during the break. To solve this problem, some schools organize volunteer programmes, sports activities and interest clubs. More schools invite teachers or experts to provide professional (专业的) courses for students. In fact, the spring break is designed to help students keep their study and rest balanced. People hope it can reduce pressure (压力) from heavy study and make school life more colourful. It lets families avoid crowds of people when travelling. Therefore, people can enjoy a better travel experience in a more comfortable way.
