Hi there! I’m Hannah Finn, and I started One Wish Project when I was 14. I wanted to do something meaningful that would help others.
I live close to one of 1 poorest cities in Massachusetts, and many families there don’t have enough money to have birthday parties for their kids.
2 I made the decision to use my love for baking (烘焙) to bring a little happiness to these kids. I started 3 baking cakes for eight kids in one shelter (收容所). It was a small start, but it felt so good to see the look of joy on 4 (they) faces. Then, I thought they should also get gifts. So, I bought them gifts, letting them choose what they 5 (want).
Since then, One Wish Project has grown so much. We now have over 250 6 (volunteer), and we celebrate with kids in many shelters every month. Our goal (目标) is to make kids feel special and loved on their birthdays. It also makes their parents feel good because someone 7 (care) for their child.
I’ve learned that even at a young age, you can make a(n) 8 (different). You don’t have to start big. Sometimes, it’s as simple as 9 (open) a door for someone, helping a parent at home, or just being kind to others. I hope my story helps you find your own way to make the world a better place, one small act of 10 (kind) at a time.

Just as the saying goes, “Roses given, fragrance in hand.” Volunteering is good for people in need and for our society. Volunteers have played an active role in many things. So do you want to be a volunteer? Here is some 1 (advice) for you if you want to volunteer.
First, there are so many people in need—the old, the young, 2 sick and the poor. If you are good with children, you could teach them how 3 (read). If you care about the homeless, it is a good idea to help make and give out food. 4 you are outgoing, go to the hospital and cheer 5 the sick people. In a word, there is always something for you.
6 (two), it’s not difficult to find that volunteers are needed in many 7 (difference) places. Communities, libraries, old people’s homes, local animal centers, sports teams and after-school programs are all good choices for you.
Third, you don’t need to spend all your time 8 (volunteer). In fact, the study shows just two to three hours each week can be good for you and your future job. The important thing is to volunteer only the amount of time that you feel comfortable to help others.
Volunteering should be a fun and 9 (mean) hobby. It is not another chore on your to-do-list. Since you spend your time, it’s important that you learn something from your volunteering. Try to find a right voluntary job. If you find a job you dislike, don’t push 10 (you) too hard to take it. Instead, look for another one.

Last month, I joined a volunteer group called “Home for Stray Animals”. At first, I didn’t know if I could do the work well, because I had never looked after animals before. My friend told me 1 was not difficult if I put my heart into it.
The first day I went to the animal shelter, I 2 (feel) very nervous. But the workers there were very kind, and they taught me how to look after the sick and homeless animals. It’s our duty 3 (give) food and clean water to them every day, and we also play with them to make them feel happy.
Many volunteers think 4 very meaningful to help these little animals. Some of the animals were hurt by bad people, and some were abandoned by their owners. It’s cruel 5 people to leave these animals alone on the street. We hope more people can know that it’s important 6 us to treat every life kindly.
Now, I 7 (work) in the shelter for a month. Every weekend, I go there to help. I even make small toys for the little animals. It’s happy 8 (see) them get better day by day. Many of them have found their new warm homes.
This volunteer experience teaches me a lot. I learn that if we want to do something well, it’s necessary 9 us to keep trying. And it’s kind 10 everyone to give a helping hand to the small lives around us.
