Two years ago, my friend and I were at college. With his birthday quickly approaching, he came to me with an unusual request: instead of receiving presents, he wanted to do some acts of kindness.
I was stuck for such an idea. Giving instead of taking for the birthday was really difficult. I asked him how he could come up with such a ___1___ idea. He told me about a TED talk he had watched on generosity, which had inspired him. So we started to ___2___ creative things we could do.
Our university employed some security guards to ___3___ its students. They have to work ___4___, keeping watch on every corner throughout the university. For the most part it’s a thankless job as most people grow ___5___ to seeing the guards all around and eventually barely notice their ___6___, let alone acknowledge their efforts. How could we show them our appreciation?
We decided to make a large pot of hot ___7___. We hired an Uber and asked the driver to take us around the campus where we knew the ___8___ would be and we poured them each a cup of hot chocolate. The Uber driver was ___9___ a bit doubtful to the entire plan but after a while he was helping us ____10____ the guards and our lively spirit had spread to him as well. Yang won the Nobel Prize in 1957 with Tsung-Dao Lee for their investigation of the so-called parity laws (宇称定律) that led to “important discoveries regarding the elementary particles,” according to the Nobel Prize website. They were the first Chinese-born Nobel Prize winners in physics.

According to a 2017 report by China’s official news agency Xinhua, Yang obtained American citizenship. He said at the time it was a painful decision, one that his father had not forgiven him for. Return To The Wolves
In January 2026, a short video from the documentary Return To The Wolves caused a heated discussion on Chinese social media. The hashtag (话题标签) Return To The Wolves soon got billions of views and comments, making the 16-year-old story of “Green” popular again across the country. For young people who were too young to remember the story when it first came out, this tale made them feel deep emotion and new interest.
The most important part of this event is the special connection between artist Li Weiyi and the wolf she named Green. Their story began in 2010 on the Ruo’ergai grasslands: Li saved a weak newborn wolf cub after its mother was killed by poachers’ poisoned food. She took him to her home in Chengdu, but as Green grew up, his wild character was not suitable for city life. Faced with a hard choice, Li made a selfless decision out of love: she would send Green back to the wild.
For seven difficult months on the grasslands, Li lived with Green, teaching him to hunt and to be afraid of humans — a very important skill for his survival. Their connection was shown through special care between different species: most notably, Green brought his own food to Li when she was sick. Their task ended with a mix of happiness and sadness when Green was accepted into a wild wolf group. Years later, local herders said that Green, who had become the leader of the group, brought back the red ribbon Li used to treat his injuries when he was a cub — a silent proof of a connection that lasted through time.
This new popularity on the Internet shows people’s desire for real connection in modern life. More practically, it shows that Chinese people are paying more attention to protecting the environment, which matches the stricter laws and stronger efforts to protect wild animals. The number of local wolves has started to increase.
Green’s howl, once a cry for survival, now becomes a call for living together in peace. His story tells us that true kindness is not about owning something, but about respecting nature’s freedom — and building a future where wild places and humans can live well together in balance.
44. What made the story of Return To The Wolves become popular again in 2026?
A. A new documentary about Green’s life now.
B. A short video from the old documentary on social media.
C. The release of a book about Li Weiyi and Green.
D. A report on the increase of local wolf populations.
45. Why did Li Weiyi decide to send Green back to the wild?
A. Green’s wild character couldn’t fit into city life.
B. She couldn’t provide enough food for Green.
C. Poachers were a threat to Green’s safety in Chengdu.
D. She wanted Green to become the leader of a wolf group.
46. What does the “red ribbon” event show?
A. Green forgot Li Weiyi after joining the wild wolf group.
B. Li Weiyi kept the ribbon to remember Green.
C. The connection between Li Weiyi and Green lasted for a long time.
D. Local herders helped Green recognize Li Weiyi.
47. What does Green’s story show?
A. It is hard to protect wild animals in cities.

The stunning victory of Zhang Xue Motor in the global arena is not merely a tale of a passionate teenager achieving his dreams; it is a profound story of Chinese manufacturing (制造) overcoming core technological barriers. Before establishing his current brand, Zhang Xue had already achieved commercial success with another company he co-founded.
However, he chose to walk away and start from zero in 2024. Why? Because he insisted on the independent research and development of engines.
“Without our own engines, we will always just be an ‘assembly plant’ and forever be choked by foreign brands,” Zhang explained. Against the advice of those who told him to make easy money by selling popular low-end models, he poured his entire fortune into developing high-performance engines. His team worked day and night, facing countless failures. Eventually, they successfully developed top-tier engines that could rival century-old international brands, equipping the 820RR-RS model that won the WSBK championship.
Interestingly, despite the massive surge in orders following the victory, Zhang Xue made a highly unusual business decision. He established a strict rule forbidding the sale of his new high-displacement motorcycles to any rider with less than one year of driving experience. He even offered a 5,000-yuan reward to anyone who reported a dealer breaking this rule.
“I am responsible for my users. This is not a toy; it is a machine capable of reaching 300 km/h,” Zhang stated firmly. From a commercial perspective, this “newbie ban” undeniably costs the company a significant number of potential orders. Yet, it highlights a rare and precious corporate quality: refusing to sacrifice safety for short-term profits. Zhang Xue proves that true industrial civilization is not just about speed, but also involves rationality, responsibility, and a deep reverence for human life.
48. Why did Zhang Xue walk away from his previous successful company?
A. He had irreconcilable financial conflicts with his former partners.
B. He planned to retire early and enjoy his wealth in his hometown.
C. He was determined to focus entirely on the independent R & D of engines.
D. He wanted to avoid the fierce competition in the low-end motorcycle market.
49. What does the phrase “being choked by foreign brands” in paragraph 3 imply?
A. China has to rely on foreign engines and be controlled.
B. China can’t produce popular low-end motorcycle models.
C. China is unable to export motorcycles to foreign markets.
D. Chinese racers are not supported by international organizations.
50. Which of the following best describes Zhang Xue’s “newbie ban” policy?
A. A smart way to increase motorcycle prices.
B. A sign of responsibility and respect for life.
C. A rule required by the local government.
D. A move to protect bikes from beginner damage.
51. What is the author’s primary purpose in writing this passage?
A. To criticize the profit-driven nature of modern commercial enterprises.
B. To introduce the technical specifications of a championship motorcycle.
C. To persuade readers to support domestic brands over international giants.
D. To highlight how Zhang Xue balances industrial progress with humanistic values.
【答案】48. C 49. A 50. B 51. D

细节理解题。根据第二段“However, he chose to walk away and start from zero in 2024. Why? Because he insisted on the independent research and development of engines. (然而,2024年他毅然选择抽身离开,从零重新创业。为何如此?因为他坚持要自主研发发动机。)”可知,张雪离开的原因就是决定将全部精力投入到发动机的自主研发中。
【49题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中“‘Without our own engines, we will always just be an ‘assembly plant’ and forever be choked by foreign brands,’ Zhang explained. (张雪解释道:‘没有属于我们自己的发动机,我们永远只是一个‘组装工厂’,始终会being choked by foreign brands。’)”可知,没有自主发动机,中国企业只能做组装工厂,可推测,being choked by foreign brands的含义就是“受制于外国品牌”,对应A选项。
【50题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“From a commercial perspective, this ‘newbie ban’ undeniably costs the company a significant number of potential orders. Yet, it highlights a rare and precious corporate quality: refusing to sacrifice safety for short-term profits. Zhang Xue proves that true industrial civilization is not just about speed, but also involves rationality, responsibility, and a deep reverence for human life.

For most 12-year-olds, any free time after school is spent hanging out with friends, competing in sports, or playing video games. But Alejandro Buxton has another dream: making all-natural candles that he sells online and at a local mall.
The idea was inspired by his mother, who had to give up many of the scented (有香味的) candles she’d filled their home with after realizing the chemicals within them were worsening her allergies (过敏), causing her frequent headaches.
So in 2019, at just 9 years old, the boy started experimenting with making his own, mixing ingredients like soy and coconut waxes with essential oils. He called his first work “Jurassic Orange,” for its color and pleasant smell. Though his mother was a big fan, and the scent didn’t cause her head to ache, Buxton wanted to improve upon his work.
Within the next few months, he’d developed a line of six uniquely scented candles. By the following year, during the worldwide lockdowns, he’d created his own online shop.
Soon after, Alejandro began selling his products on his own website. “Smell of Love Candles”, where shoppers can find offerings with creative names like “Sage the Day!” and “Alexa, clean the house.” He also lists other products such as room sprays for sale.
According to the site, his younger sister Valentina serves as assistant of operations while his mother takes the role of assistant to the CEO.
Now, he is operating his business in a local mall as well. This past September, he opened a stand in D.C.’s Tysons Corner shopping center — making him the youngest leaseholder (承租人) at the mall.
Besides inspiring fellow kids with his entrepreneurial (创业者的) spirit and talent, Alejandro is also a positive role model for giving back and making a difference: He donates part of his profits to a local charity.
With the experience and knowledge he’s gaining from running this business at such a young age, Alejandro hopes to one day go on to create an engineering business.

Chinese Nobel Prize-winning physicist Chen Ning Yang, one of the most influential scientists in modern physics, died in Beijing on Saturday. He was 103.
The prestigious Tsinghua University, where he studied and served as a professor, said in a statement that Yang died of an illness, without sharing further details. “Professor Yang is one of the greatest physicists of the 20th century, having made revolutionary contributions to the development of modern physics,” the statement said, praising his contribution to China’s scientific and educational developments.
In his speech at the Nobel Banquet at the time, he said he was as proud of his Chinese heritage as he was devoted to modern science, a part of human civilization of Western origin. “I am heavy with an awareness of the fact that I am in more than one sense a product of both the Chinese and Western cultures, in harmony and in conflict,” according to his speech, shared on the Nobel Prize website.
Yang, also known as Frank or Franklin, was also famous for his Yang-Mills theory developed with American physicist Robert Mills.
Born in 1922, Yang was brought up surrounded by the Tsinghua campus, where his father was a math professor, the website said. After finishing his undergraduate degree, he obtained his master’s degree from Tsinghua.
He enrolled in the University of Chicago in the United States to pursue a doctorate in 1946 and was strongly influenced by Italian-American physicist Enrico Fermi, who had won the same Nobel Prize in 1938, the website said. He later became a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
In 1986, he became a distinguished Professor-at-large at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, to which he generously donated many of his awards and articles, including the Nobel Prize. Starting from 1999, he served as a professor at Tsinghua.
According to a 2017 report by China’s official news agency Xinhua, Yang obtained American citizenship. He said at the time it was a painful decision, one that his father had not forgiven him for. He renounced his U.S. citizenship in 2015, saying it was a beautiful country that gave him good opportunities in studying science, the report said. The Nobel Prize website said Yang had three children.

B. The number of wolves is decreasing because of poaching.
C. It is impossible to build a connection between humans and wolves.
D. China is paying more and more attention to environmental protection.
