Here are four of those kinds of parks. Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve Unlike any other national park, this large park is entirely above the Arctic Circle (北极圈). B At 102 years old, the American neurologist (神经学家) Howard Tucker, has lived a life so singular that it earned him a Guinness World Record as the oldest practicing doctor. Though he officially hung up his white coat at 100, he remains as active and engaged as ever. Today, he lectures future physicians at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and consults on medico-legal cases. “Retirement, I think, is the enemy of longevity (长寿),” Dr. Tucker recently told Today. “You have to have some purpose in life and get up in the morning and know what you’re about.” Even after the hospital where he worked shut its doors in 2022, ending his medical practice at 100, it hasn’t prevented Tucker from returning to clinical work. “If it weren’t for the closure, I’d absolutely still be seeing patients,” he said. “Nobody wants me at my age — but I’ll keep trying.” His enthusiasm for life has caught the public imagination, especially through What’s Next, a documentary about his life produced by his grandson. Dr. Tucker credits his longevity not just to his parents who lived to 84 and 96 but also to his lifestyle choices, including a sensible diet and a happy life. His daily routine reflects that philosophy. He snowshoes in the winter, walks on the running machine for at least four kilometers a day, and eats a mostly clean diet. Dr. Tucker also says it’s important to keep the brain motivated. “If you retire from your work, you should at least do something as a hobby,” he explained. “You need a motivation for the brain daily.” For a man who’s devoted his life to healing others, Dr. Howard Tucker’s greatest lesson might be how to truly live. 4. The underlined word “singular” in Paragraph 1 most probably means ________. A. regular B. simple C. common D. extraordinary 5. What do we know about Tucker after he turned 100? A. He opened a new clinic by himself. B. He focused on making documentaries. C. He quit his job in order to be a consultant. D. He was still engaged in medical-related work. 6. What does Tucker think of retirement? A. It is necessary for the old. B. It is beneficial to improving health. C. It goes against living a long life. D. It helps offer a clear life goal. 7. What helps Tucker live long according to him? A. Good genes and a healthy lifestyle. B. Public attention and daily exercise. C. Rich social experience and family influence. D. An active brain care and strong enthusiasm. C In Spain, children in the Eixample area of Barcelona have a new way to get to school on Fridays — they ride their bikes. The program is called “bicibus” or “bikebus”. The Eixample bike bus begins around 8:25 every Friday morning. The path it will follow is always posted ahead of time, so everyone knows where to join. The bicibus starts off with just a few students and parents, with more and more joining as it travels along. Most kids ride their bikes, and others ride scooters (滑板车) or use skates. Instead of riding in bike lanes (车道) or on sidewalks, the bicibus takes over the entire street. With music playing and bike bells ringing, the bicibus feels like a party. Nine-year-old Marfa Pitarch says, “The best part of the bicibus is that we ride along and pick up my friends and we ride together.” The Eixample bicibus goes to several schools. When students reach their school, they leave the bicibus and park their bikes. Some parents have made the bicibus the way they get to work on Fridays. Because these are busy streets, the local police are helping stop traffic by riding in front of the bicibus and behind it. Parents are hoping that the bicibus will help change ideas about how people can get around in the city. They want the city to create wider, kid-friendly bike lanes. They point out that the bicibus also helps cut down on pollution. Pictures and videos of the Eixample bicibus got a lot of attention when they were posted on social media sites. Many people point out what a simple idea it is, and how easy it is to get started. 8. What can we learn about the bicibus from the first two paragraphs? A. It runs every weekday morning. B. It is only limited to young children. C. Its path will be announced in advance. D. It needs all to start off from the same place. 9. What’s the nicest thing about the bicibus according to Marfa Pitarch? A. The music along the road. B. The freedom to ride scooters. C. The fun of riding with friends. D. The route of the bicibus. 10. What makes the bicibus go smoothly? A. The guard from the police. B. The participation of parents. C. The size of the bicibus. D. The requirements on riding. 11. Which can be the best title for the text? A. Getting around in the city B. Caring about our environment C. Creating more kid-friendly bike lanes D. Taking the “bike bus” to school D Repeated exposure (接触) to heatwaves, which are growing more frequent due to climate change, may speed up ageing, particularly among manual (体力) workers, a new study warns. Although previous research showed heatwaves had negative effects on the health of older people, it primarily focused on short-term exposure to constant heat. The new study, published in the journal Nature Climate Change, assessed the potential long-term impact of heatwaves on health and ageing. Researchers analysed data from 24,922 adult people with an average biological age of 46 years to assess how heatwaves influenced ageing. They defined rapid ageing as the difference between biological and actual age and assessed its association with heatwave exposure. Biological age shows how old your body seems based on its actual health and condition, which can be different from your age in years. If your body’s age is higher than your actual age, you are more likely to get sick. By analysing patient data from 2008 to 2022, the researchers discovered that the more time people spent in heatwaves, the more their bodies aged. Though the participants appeared to adapt to heatwave conditions over the 15-year period, the harmful health effects did not disappear. Manual workers, rural residents and people in communities with fewer air conditioning units were more likely to be impacted by heatwaves on ageing, the study found. The findings suggest people living in places that experience more days of high heat show greater biological ageing on average than those in cooler regions. “Here we analysed data from 24,922 adults and used linear mixed models (线性混合模型) to show heatwaves speed up ageing,” the researchers said. The above findings carry significant applications and can be used to inform practical actions. Thus, based on the research findings, researchers are urging governments to make sure everyone is equally protected from heatwaves and to help communities handle them better, especially among at-risk groups. 12. What makes the new study different from previous research? A. It has a larger and diverse research team. B. It studied a much larger group of participants. C. It examined heat’s immediate effects on people. D. It focused on the long-term impact of heatwaves. 13. Who is most affected by heatwaves in terms of ageing according to the study? A. Office workers in air-conditioned buildings. B. People living in cold northern regions. C. Those who do physical work outdoors. D. Young adults with good medical care. 14. How did researchers prove that heatwaves speed up ageing? A. By asking people how old they felt. B. By testing new cooling technologies. C. By tracking biological age changes in adults. D. By measuring body temperature during heatwaves. 15. What’s the author’s attitude towards the study’s conclusions? A. Dismissive. B. Critical. C. Doubtful. D. Favorable. First Aid for Choking (窒息): The Heimlich Maneuver Choking occurs when food or an object blocks the airway. I was a boy who hid in the library, believing that reading was the only thing that made sense. The noise of a group, the closeness of others — these things made me uncomfortable. My music teacher, Mrs. Wills, did not scold me for my refusal. Instead, she just looked at me with a kind of quiet patience and said, “A single note is beautiful, but it is lost in the air. A harmony gives it a place to live.” I did not understand her words then. To me, singing in a group meant losing myself. I thought my voice would be covered by the louder, better singers. I was afraid of sounding weak. I was afraid of standing in a crowd. So, every Tuesday afternoon, while the others gathered in the music room, I stayed in the empty library, listening to the distant sound of their warm-ups echoing through the hall. Then came the announcement of the annual winter concert. Mrs. Wills came to find me again. This time, she did not ask me to join. She handed me a letter. “This is for you,” she said. “Read it, and then decide.” I opened the letter in the quiet corner of the library. On it was a short note: “We are missing one voice. The sound is not complete. We are not asking you to sing for the audience; we are asking you to sing for us — because a choir is not a collection of stars, but a constellation (星座). Without you, we are just a broken circle.” At the bottom of the letter were signatures — messy, small, but sincere. It was signed by every single member of the choir. That night, I couldn’t sleep, the letter lying on my bedside table. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The night of the concert arrived, and as we stood backstage, I was trembling. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 哈九中2024级高二下学期期中考试 英语试卷 (时间:120分钟 满分:150分) 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分20分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1分,满分5分) 听下面5段对话,每段对话读两遍。 1. Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve中的“Unlike any other national park, this large park is entirely above the Arctic Circle (北极). In the northern park during winter, the sun doesn’t rise for nearly a month; in summer the sun doesn’t set for nearly two months. (与其他任何国家公园不同,这座大型公园完全位于北极圈以上。在北方的公园里,冬天有近一个月太阳不升起;夏天有近两个月太阳不落下。)”可知,北极门国家公园的特别之处在于其北极气候(冬季近一个月极夜、夏季近两个月极昼)。故选A项。 根据Indiana Dunes National Park中的“With its 15 miles of shore under the constant forces of Lake Michigan’s wind and waves, Indiana’s only national park has high sands from which visitors can see the skyline of Chicago across the lake. D. Taking the “bike bus” to school 【答案】8. C 9. C 10. A. Dismissive. B. Critical. C. Doubtful. D. Favorable. 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. C 15. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 That night, I couldn’t sleep, the letter lying on my bedside table. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The night of the concert arrived, and as we stood backstage, I was trembling. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Paragraph 1: That night, I couldn’t sleep, the letter lying on my bedside table. The moonlight turned those messy signatures into silver promises. I kept reading the line: “We are missing one voice.” For the first time, it struck me that my silence wasn’t protecting me; it was hurting them. I imagined the choir practicing without me, that “broken circle” Mrs. Wills had mentioned. Overwhelmed by a strange courage, I sat up. I looked at my reflection in the dark window and hummed a single note. It sounded small and shaky, but it was real. At that moment, I decided I would rather be a small part of something complete than a whole lot of nothing alone. Paragraph 2: The night of the concert arrived, and as we stood backstage, I was trembling. The lights felt too bright, and the crowd sounded like a dangerous ocean. I wanted to run. Just then, Emma, the girl who stood next to me, reached out and held my cold hand. “Don’t worry,” she whispered. “We’ve got you.” When we walked onto the stage and the music started, something magical happened. As I opened my mouth, my weak voice did not get lost. Instead, it was wrapped in the warmth of the others. I was not a solo star, but I was a vital note in the chord. When the song ended, I realized I had not lost myself. I had finally found my place in the constellation. 阅读:read/browse ②. 哼唱:hum/sing softly ③. 握住:hold/grip 情绪类 ①. 触动:strike/touch ②.伤害:hurt/harm 【点睛】[高分句型1].
