Visit the Security Council Chamber (会议厅), the Trusteeship Council Chamber, and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber. Learn about how the United Nations addresses issues such as climate change, peace and security, human rights, and how you can support the Sustainable Development Goals.(有导游带领的参观活动提供了一种引人入胜的方式来探索联合国总部。 故选A项。 根据For entry中“For security reasons, children under 5 years of age are not permitted on tour.(出于安全原因,5 岁以下儿童不得参加参观。)” 根据Rates for 2025中“Adult:$26.00 Student (Ages 13+):$18.00 A 10% booking fee will apply.(成人:26 美元;学生(13 岁及以上):18 美元;将收取10% 的预订费。)” 故选A项。 B During the summer, Kun, a 19-year-old diagnosed with congenital (先天的) deafness, received offers from seven universities, through years of determined efforts. Born in 2005 in a village, Kun lost his father at five and later lived with his grandparents after his mother remarried. Supported by his family, he was admitted to a school for hearing-impaired children. “Adapting to life in a group was tough,” Kun sighed. “When I first started school, everything felt frightening. I couldn’t hear anything, completely lost. I had to get used to the new environment, follow new rules, and learn how to interact with others. But over time, these challenges became easier to manage.” Kun recalls how his teachers used tailored techniques and tools to aid learning. These included multimedia lessons, hearing aids, speech recognition devices, and other assistive technologies. After middle school, Kun attended a specialized high school in a nearby city. For students with hearing and speech impairments, learning English proved particularly difficult. While many of his schoolmates had some basic knowledge of the language and were exposed to English through songs, movies, and everyday conversations, Kun had no prior exposure (接触), making the task even more challenging. “My key is reading, writing, and translation,” Kun signed. He created a detailed study plan and performed extremely well. This year, Kun took the national college entrance examination, or gaokao. His hard work paid off. Since May, Kun has received offers from all seven universities to which he applied. Ultimately, Kun decided to learn product design at his dream school, TJ University of Technology. With ambitions of becoming a 3D designer specializing in product modeling, he is now focusing on mastering various modeling software, such as 3ds Max and Adobe Illustrator. “I’m deeply thankful to my grandparents and everyone who has supported me,” Kun signed. “I will continue to work hard in my studies and, in the future, use my skills to inspire and assist others.” 4. What was tough for Kun to adapt himself to group life? A. His inborn disability. B. His fear of challenges. C. His hearing aids. D. His lack of talking skills. 5. Why does the author mention English learning? A. To recommend the key to learning. B. To highlight the importance of English. C. To show the challenge Kun faced. D. To compare Kun with his schoolmates. 6. How did Kun achieve success in gaokao? A. By focusing on English reading practice. B. By following a well - planned study method. C. By relying on his teachers’ patient help. D. By using advanced learning software. 7. What can be a suitable title for the passage? A. “Deaf” Teenagers in a World of Silence. B. “Silent” but Not Silent: Kun’s Sad Story. C. Kun’s Inspiring Journey: From Deafness to College Success. D. A Teenager’s Battle Against Silence: From Struggle to Survival. A 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第一段中“During the summer, Kun, a 19-year-old diagnosed with congenital (先天的) deafness (今年夏天,19岁的Kun被诊断为先天性耳聋)”和第三段中“When I first started school, everything felt frightening. I couldn’t hear anything, completely lost. 根据第五段中“For students with hearing and speech impairments, learning English proved particularly difficult. While many of his schoolmates had some basic knowledge of the language... Kun had no prior exposure (接触), making the task even more challenging. 根据第六段中“He created a detailed study plan and performed extremely well. This year, Kun took the national college entrance examination, or gaokao. His hard work paid off. Since May, Kun has received offers from all seven universities to which he applied.(他制定了详细的学习计划,并且表现得极其出色。 通读全文,结合第一段“Kun, a 19-year-old diagnosed with congenital (先天的) deafness, received offers from seven universities, through years of determined efforts. C In 1947, a group of famous people from the art world decided to hold an international festival of music, dance and theatre in Edinburgh. The idea was to seek a stage for artists. It quickly attracted famous names such as Alec Guinness, Richard Burton, Dame Margot Fonteyn and Marlene Dietrich as well as the big symphony orchestras It became a fixed event every August and now attracts about 400,000 people yearly. At the same time, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (the Fringe) appeared as a challenge to the official festival. Eight theater groups turned up uninvited in 1947, believing that everyone should have the right to perform, and they did so in a public house that had been disused for years. Soon, groups of students firstly from the University of Edinburgh, and later from the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, Durham and Birmingham were making the journey to the Scottish capital each summer to perform plays by little known writers in small halls. Today the Fringe, once less embraced, has far outgrown the festival with around 1500 performances of music, dance and theatre on every one of the 21 days it lasts. And yet as early as 1959, with only 19 theatre groups performing, some said it was getting too big. A paid administrator was first employed only in 1971, and today there are 8 administrators working all year round and the number rises to 150 during August itself. In 2004, there were 200 places housing 1695 shows by over 600 different groups from 50 different countries. More than 1.25 million tickets were sold. 8. What was the original idea behind the Edinburgh Art Festival? A. To provide a platform for artists to perform. B. To have a yearly gathering of famous artists. C. To challenge the established festivals. D. To focus on big symphony orchestras. 9. How did the Edinburgh Festival Fringe start? A. As the local government’s cultural policy. B. With permission from the official festival. C. As an invitation for students from Universities. D. With 8 theatre groups performing uninvited. 10. What does the underlined word “embraced” mean in paragraph 5? A. investigated. B. allowed. C. accepted. D. controlled. 11. Why are the numbers mentioned in paragraph 6? A. To show administrators are busy in August. B. To show the festival has grown rapidly. C. To prove the tickets for the festival sell well. D. To prove different groups have come to the festival. A 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第一段“The idea was to seek a stage for artists. 根据第三段“Eight theater groups turned up uninvited in 1947, believing that everyone should have the right to perform, and they did so in a public house that had been disused for years. 根据第五段“Today the Fringe, once less embraced, has far outgrown the festival with around 1500 performances of music, dance and theatre on every one of the 21 days it lasts. 根据最后一段“A paid administrator was first employed only in 1971, and today there are 8 administrators working all year round and the number rises to 150 during August itself. In 2004, there were 200 places housing 1695 shows by over 600 different groups from 50 different countries. More than 1.25 million tickets were sold. D I get that parents worry about screen time. But speaking as a researcher studying the effects of screen-based experiences, screens can be a great tool for reading. Digital books give children unique opportunities to learn and improve skills through literacy apps. To that end, I am one of many researchers in this field who believe that digital reading should not be considered screen time in the traditional sense. What makes a digital story beneficial for children’s learning? Over the past 20 years, researchers have found design features and reading scenarios that make some digital books more educational. Firstly, high-quality personalized reading experiences are crucial. Digital books with AI-based text generators enable children to become multimedia creators. Secondly, digital books can greatly enhance parent-child reading. Questions in these books can guide parents, improving the quality of their reading-related conversations. But as much as I support digital reading, the commercial (商业的) turn in the development of ed (education) tech worries me, particularly in relation to profit-driven design and misuse of children’s data. Similar to social media, subscription libraries commodify children’s attention through automatic book recommendations. These recommended books often feature low literary value and are tied to advertising. Moreover, the lack of content oversight allows anyone to publish, potentially leading to the creation of harmful materials. Although generative AI expands content creation, it also raises quality concerns. Thus, digital books need strict quality checks and closer collaboration (合作) between researchers and developers. Digital reading has opened up new research frontiers. Real-time data can help personalize children’s reading learning. AI can support adults in selecting reading materials for children, provided it’s trained appropriately. As governments and funders respond to calls for evidence-based ed tech, I’m hopeful that all children can benefit from digital books. In conclusion, screens are remarkable reading tools for teaching children to read. 12. What is the author’s attitude towards counting digital reading as screen time? A. cautious B. disapproving C. supportive D. neutral 13. According to the passage, digital books contribute to _______________. A. quality parent-child interaction B. more open-ended questions C. personalized design features D. changes in kids’ reading habits 14. What are the major threats to digital reading? A. Low literary quality but high prices. B. The strict checks on the content. C. The great number of advertisements. D. Profit-driven design and data misuse. 15. What is the purpose of the passage? A. To highlight the risks of screen time. B. To offer another view on digital reading. C. To introduce some advances in ed tech. D. To present the benefits of reading online. B 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第一段中“To that end, I am one of many researchers in this field who believe that digital reading should not be considered screen time in the traditional sense. B During the summer, Kun, a 19-year-old diagnosed with congenital (先天的) deafness, received offers from seven universities, through years of determined efforts.
