He was in such a hurry to tell Alex something exciting that he didn’t look where he was going. He fell and Alex’s camera dropped from Alex’s hand. The lens (透镜) broke with a loud noise. Alex was very sad because it was special—a gift from his father for his thirteenth birthday. For two days, Alex stayed angry. His brother tried to say sorry, but Alex refused to listen. Leo walked around with his head down, feeling sorry for what he had done and thinking about how to make it right. Then one night, Leo brought his piggy bank and said, “I will help pay for the repair.” They took the camera to Mr. Chen, the repairman. After a quick check, he said, “This won’t be simple or cheap.” Hearing this, Alex and Leo went back home, feeling hopeless. That night, their parents knew about the accident and suggested that they do some chores around the house to get some money. What a good idea! The brothers worked hard and their effort was rewarded. They could afford the rest of the cost at last. They ran to Mr. Chen’s shop excitedly. There was only one day left before the school photo show, and Mr. Chen helped them repair the camera. “You can still see marks here,” he said, “but it works perfectly. Sometimes these give photographs more meaning.” Before the show, Alex was nervous. However, seeing Leo in the front row with his “Good Luck” sign made Alex calm down. As he took pictures, the camera even worked better than ever. After the show, he hugged Leo, realizing the broken camera had made them closer. 24.Why was the camera special to Alex? A.Because it was very expensive. B.Because it was a present from his father. C.Because it was a prize from the school show. 25.What did Leo do after he broke the camera? A.He bought a new one for Alex. B.He offered money to help repair it. C.He shared his own camera with Alex. 26.What do the underlined words “was rewarded” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.Handed out. B.Turned out. C.Paid off. 27.What is the main idea of the story? A.A broken camera made the brothers closer. B.A school photo show brought students together. C.An accident at a camera shop offered a lesson. 24.根据原文第一段“Alex was very sad because it was special—a gift from his father for his thirteenth birthday.”,可知相机对Alex来说很特别,因为它是父亲送给他的十三岁生日礼物。 25.根据原文第二段“Then one night, Leo brought his piggy bank and said, ‘I will help pay for the repair.’”,可知Leo摔坏相机后,拿出自己的存钱罐,表示会出钱帮忙修理。 26.根据原文第三段“The brothers worked hard and their effort was rewarded. They could afford the rest of the cost at last.”,兄弟俩努力做家务赚钱,最后终于凑够了修理费,因此“was rewarded”在这里意为“得到了回报,付出有了成效”,与选项C“Paid off(取得成功、得到回报)”意思一致。 27.根据原文最后一段“After the show, he hugged Leo, realizing the broken camera had made them closer.”,可知故事的主旨是:一次摔坏相机的意外,让兄弟俩的关系变得更亲密了。 C A lot of people drink bottled water in the world. A water bottle offers great convenience. It can be bought almost anywhere, carried around for a while, and then thrown away. The influence of bottled water on the environment, however, is very big. About 2.7 million tons of plastic is turned into bottles which are only used once each year. This requires a lot of oil and water. It also produces greenhouse gases. Bottled water is often carried for long distances to reach people who buy it. This uses even more fossil fuels (化石燃料) and creates more pollution. Although the bottles can be recycled, only small parts of them are. The US only recycles about 23 percent. The rest are part of a growing waste problem. Convenience isn’t the only reason for bottled water to become popular. Many people believe that it must be cleaner and healthier than tap water from public water systems. But this is not true. In developed countries such as the US and some countries in Europe, laws about safe water are often stricter for tap water than for bottled water. It may come as a surprise that nearly 40% of the water bottled in the US starts from tap water. Before bottling, some companies filter (过滤) it, and they might add some things for taste. What’s more, bottled water can cost from 240 to 10,000 times more than tap water. “Back to the tap” activities start around the world. In order to save money, use fewer resources, and create less waste, they support using tap water and reusable bottles rather than bottled water. San Francisco and other cities across the United States no longer allow their government departments to buy bottled water. Companies are trying to improve, too. They have reduced the use of plastic in their bottles. 28.What’s the second paragraph mainly talking about? A.The problem caused by bottled water. B.The ways to produce bottled water. C.The advantages of bottled water. 29.Why is bottled water popular? A.Because people think it is the water from nature. B.Because people think it is convenient and safe. C.Because people think it can prevent illnesses. 30.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A.Fossil fuels. B.Greenhouse gases. C.The bottles. 31.What’s the best title for the passage? A.“Back to the tap” Activities B.Bottled Water or Tap Water? 29.第三段提到“Convenience isn’t the only reason for bottled water to become popular. Many people believe that it must be cleaner and healthier than tap water from public water systems”,说明瓶装水受欢迎是因为人们认为它方便且安全。 30.第二段提到“Although the bottles can be recycled, only small parts of them are”,结合前文可知这里说的是瓶子的回收,所以“them”指代的是前文提到的“the bottles”。 31. You may know about “junk food” like French fries. But do you know about “junk sleep”? A British survey shows that there are many electronic products in teenagers’ bedrooms. They are influencing teenagers’ sleep badly. The survey was done among 1,000 British kids from 12 to 16. It is found that 50% of them got just 4 to 7 hours’ sleep every day. But doctors say they need 8 to 9 hours. Almost 25% of the kids said they often fell asleep while they were watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products. “This is very worrying,” said Dr. Chris, a British professor (教授), “We call it ‘junk sleep’. It means you don’t get enough sleep and the quality (质量) of the sleep is low, too.” The survey found that quite a few of the kids felt tired each day because of the junk sleep, especially girls between 13 and 16. Lots of teenagers have a phone, music player or TV in their bedrooms. And several of them even have all three. Dr. Chris suggested that parents should help their children keep away from electronic products, and that teenagers should spend less time on the electronic products. 32.How many hours of sleep do teenagers need according to doctors? 33.According to the passage, what were 25% of the kids doing when they fell asleep? 34.In Dr. Chris’ opinion, what should teenagers do? 35.What does this passage mainly talk about? (within 20 words) 【答案】32.They need 8 to 9 hours. 33.They were watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products. 34.They should spend less time on the electronic products. 35.It’s mainly about British teenagers’ “junk sleep” influenced by electronic products. 33.第四段提到近25%的孩子常常在看电视、听音乐或使用其他电子产品时睡着“fell asleep while they were watching TV, listening to music or using other electronic products”,答案是原文直接信息。 34. Chris建议青少年应该少花时间在电子产品上“teenagers should spend less time on the electronic products”,答案是原文直接信息。 35. It’s mainly about British teenagers’ “junk sleep” influenced by electronic products. Dear Future Self, How time flies! B.Turned out. C.Paid off. 27.What is the main idea of the story? A.A broken camera made the brothers closer. B.A school photo show brought students together. C.An accident at a camera shop offered a lesson. C A lot of people drink bottled water in the world.
