(1) put on 的其他用法:

The Torch(火把) Festival is a traditional festival celebrated among some ethnic groups(少数民族) in southwestern China, such as the Yi, Bai and Naxi. It usually falls on the24th or 25th of the sixth Chinese lunar month, with about three days of celebrations. People believe that fire can protect the growth of crops(庄稼). For some groups, it's a tradition for the old to share farming experience with young people and teach them how to take care of crops.
During the Torch Festival, every family needs to light a torch and hold it to walk on the farm. Big torches are made to appear in all villages. Small torches are simply placed in front of the door of each house. When night falls, the torches are lit and the villages are as bright as in the daytime. It's really fascinating. People walk around the farm and houses, holding small torches, and then place them in the farm corners. Inside the villages, young people are singing and dancing around the big torches. They don't come back home until very late.
