Passage 4
(2026·高三·浙江台州市·二模)
While ball games and chess dominate the spotlight, some unusual sports remain off the radar but they’re just as thrilling! These activities not only lift your spirits but also bring back the true essence of sports: FUN! Here are four fascinating examples:
Quidditch
Inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, this magical game is now a real international sport. Each team has seven players, and every player must keep a broom between their legs from start to finish. Combining elements of rugby and dodgeball, it’s called “Muggle Quidditch” since non-magical folks play it without magic.
Yubi Lakpi
This traditional Indian game resembles football, but with a twist — players use a coconut instead of a ball. Two teams compete to carry the coconut into the opponent’s goal area. To make the game more challenging, players apply oil to their bodies, making them slippery and hard to grab. Tough enough? Give it a try!
Zorbing
Imagine rolling downhill inside a giant plastic ball. That’s zorbing! It first originated in New Zealand in the 1990s and has grown into a popular outdoor adventure activity around the world. Usually done on gentle slopes or flat ground, it’s more about the joy of rolling than competition. Perfect for a fun day out with friends!
Toe Wrestling
Yes, it’s real and it even has a World Championship! Similar to arm wrestling, opponents try to pin each other’s toes down for three seconds. Matches alternate between left and right feet, with the best of three rounds deciding the winner. So kick off your shoes and socks. It’s toe-wrestling time!
1.What must Quidditch players do throughout the game?
A.Control the team with magic.
B.Pass a rugby ball to other folks.
C.Hold a broom between their legs.
D.Obey rules from the Harry Potter series.
2.How do players make it difficult for the opposing team in Yubi Lakpi?
A.By wetting the fields.
B.By oiling themselves.
C.By polishing the coconuts.
D.By blocking the opponents.
3.What do Zorbing and Toe Wrestling have in common?
A.Both take place on gentle slopes.
B.Both involve close-body contact.
C.Both qualify as championship events.
D.Both feature fun-oriented recreation.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.D

3.推理判断题。根据第四段“It first originated in New Zealand in the 1990s and has grown into a popular outdoor adventure activity around the world. Usually done on gentle slopes or flat ground, it’s more about the joy of rolling than competition. Perfect for a fun day out with friends! (它起源于20世纪90年代的新西兰,现已成为世界各地流行的户外冒险活动。通常在缓坡或平地上进行,它更多的是关于滚动的乐趣,而不是竞争。非常适合和朋友一起出去玩乐的一天!)”以及第五段“Yes, it’s real and it even has a World Championship! Similar to arm wrestling, opponents try to pin each other’s toes down for three seconds. Matches alternate between left and right feet, with the best of three rounds deciding the winner. So kick off your shoes and socks. It’s toe-wrestling time! (是的,这是真的,它甚至还有世界锦标赛!类似于掰手腕,对手试图将对方的脚趾压下三秒钟。比赛在左右脚之间交替进行,三局两胜制决定胜负。所以,脱掉你的鞋子和袜子。脚趾摔跤时间到!)”可知,滚球和脚趾摔跤都强调乐趣,是以娱乐为导向的休闲活动。故选D项。

Wander Tea Trails
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka equals tea in people’s minds. Now visitors can walk in the footsteps of historic tea planters on the new, nearly 200-mile Pekoe Trail, the country’s first long-distance walking route. Starting just outside Kandy, it follows the 19th-century tracks upon which workers transported freshly picked leaves. Hikers pass through hill towns and tea plantations and can stop to taste a cup of Ceylon tea.
Cruise (乘船游览) an Epic River
Colombia
About 80 percent of Colombians live in the river basin of the Magdalena, which flows for nearly a thousand miles from the Andes to the Caribbean. Ama Waterways’ new cruises on the river journey upstream during seven-night trips from Cartagena to Barranquilla. Performances of vallenato music and visits to a stilt-house village highlight the region’s culture along the impressive waterway.
Sleep on Water
Tofino, British Columbia
The newly reopened Tofino Wilderness Resort is a peaceful base from which to explore the western coast of British Columbia. Through guided whale-watching trips or visits to the Freedom Cove artists’ shelter, the Ahousaht share with guests their philosophy, hishuk ish tsawalk (“everything is one”), celebrating the interconnectedness of people and nature in a land they’ve occupied for thousands of years.
Explore Ancient Art
Algeria
Tassili n’Ajjer National Park in Algeria is known for its unique sandstone landforms and over 15,000 ancient carvings. Early humans created images of elephants, giraffes, and rhinos. These animals are more commonly associated with sub-Saharan Africa, showing the area was once a grassland. Guided tours take in the well-known works like “Crying Cows” which reflect early human life and beliefs.

Passage 14
(2026·高三·山东泰安肥城市·二模)
Subida Impossível: Portugal’s “Impossible Climb” Motocross Event
Subida Impossível is one of the world’s most extreme annual motocross hill-climb events, held in Silves, Algarve, Portugal. It tests riders’ skill, courage, and machinery against a rocky hill that lives up to its name.
Basic Facts
- Location: Sítio do Enxerim, near the M502 road in Silves, southern Portugal
- Date: Held every November
- Organizers: Moto Clube de Albufeira + Silves City Council
The Course:
- Length: 110 meters
- Gradient: Average 38.7°, with sections reaching nearly 42°
- Surface: Loose limestones, narrow path, minimal traction (附着力)
Rules & Scoring
- Riders attempt to climb as high as possible on a motocross bike
- No time limit — victory goes to the rider with the maximum height reached
- A rider’s attempt ends if they fall, touch the ground with their feet, or go outside the marked course
- Retries are allowed, but only the best attempt counts
Why It’s “Impossible”
The complexity of the hill pushes the riders and machines to the limit, forcing riders to balance machinery control and gravity; too much power causes loss of control, too little means failing to fight the pull of gravity efficiently. In over two decades, only a tiny number of riders have ever reached the top. Most winners claim victory by climbing just a few meters farther than their competitors. For example, last year, João Lourenço managed to cross the finish line, but he ended up being disqualified for going outside the lines, so first place went to Luis Romão, who climbed 72 meters and 50 centimeters before falling off his motorbike.
1.What do we know about the “Subida Impossivel” event?
A.It takes place every year in summer. B.It is held on a tough course.
C.It is organized by a local body. D.It is located in northern Portugal.
2.How is a rider’s performance judged in the competition?
A.By the time taken to reach the top. B.By the distance of successful climbs.
C.By the number of good attempts. D.By the style and speed of riding.
3.Why was João Lourenço unable to win the event last year?
A.He didn’t reach the finish line in time.
B.He gave up at the last minute of the race.
C.He went outside the clearly defined lines.
D.He fell off his bike because of carelessness.
【答案】1.B 2.B 3.C
【导语】文章介绍了葡萄牙“不可能攀登”极限越野摩托车赛事的一些信息,包括基本事实、赛道情况、规则、复杂性等。
1.细节理解题。根据文章第一段“Subida Impossível is one of the world’s most extreme annual motocross hill-climb events, held in Silves, Algarve, Portugal. It tests riders’ skill, courage, and machinery against a rocky hill that lives up to its name.(“不可能攀登”是世界上最极限的年度摩托车越野赛之一,在葡萄牙阿尔加维的锡尔维什举行。
根据文章“Rules & Scoring”部分提到的“No time limit — victory goes to the rider with the maximum height reached(没有时间限制——胜利属于达到最高高度的骑手)”以及“Retries are allowed, but only the best attempt counts(允许重试,但只有最好的尝试才算数)”可知,比赛没有时间限制,胜负取决于选手攀爬的最大高度,且允许多次尝试但只记最好成绩。这表明选手的表现是通过成功攀爬的距离来评判的。
3.细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“For example, last year, João Lourenço managed to cross the finish line, but he ended up being disqualified for going outside the lines...(例如,去年,João Lourenço设法越过终点线,但最终因越线而被取消资格……)”可知,去年João Lourenço因为越线行驶而被取消资格,导致无法获胜。
Passage 15
(2026·高三·湖北孝感市·二模)
Want to encourage connection between team members but never seem to have enough time? Below, you’ll find tried and tested 5-minute activities used by experienced facilitators and team leaders.
Icebreaker Questions
Needing almost no set-up, icebreaker questions are a simple but powerful way to kick off a team meeting or group session. You can separate team members into small groups and simply ask them to respond to questions you share with the group. For best results, have these questions relate to the topic of the session to help prepare the group for what comes next.
Group Order
Group Order is a simple exercise that supports the getting-to-know-you process. It requires nothing more than asking your group to line themselves up in an order based on a criterion such as birth date or number of different countries visited. You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to get people talking and sharing when in pursuit of a common goal.
Two Truths and One Lie
In this game, each person will present three statements about themselves: two statements must be true while one will be a lie. Give your members a few moments to work out what they want to share about themselves, and to make their lie a smart one.
Sync Claps
Sync claps is a fast-paced exercise that helps create focus and presence in a group. Get started by getting your team into a circle and ask them to move a clap around the room quickly by having two members clap at the same time. By asking your group to clap together and move quickly, Sync Claps is a fun way to help your group feel more connected.
1.What is key to making Icebreaker Questions most effective?
A.Instant responses from members. B.Sufficient time for discussion.
C.Relevance to the meeting topic. D.Simple yet powerful questions.

Passage 2
(2026·高三·广东茂名市·二模)
There are a lot of factors that affect how long milk is good for after the sell-by date. The biggest is whether the milk has been through pasteurization (巴氏杀菌法), which is defined as “the process of heating every drop of milk to destroy all human pathogens (病原体)”.
How long raw milk lasts
“Because raw milk has not gone through a heat step to reduce the bacterial count, it will break down and go bad more quickly,” says Amit Shah, senior director of quality at Maple Hill Creamery in New York. According to Alex O’Brien, a food safety and quality organizer at the University of Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research, it’d be lucky to get seven days of drinkability with raw milk. Until the early 1900s, milk was frequently the vehicle for foodborne illnesses. That’s why selling raw milk to the general public is illegal in many situations and states.
How long pasteurized milk lasts
Pasteurized milk generally lasts three weeks to a month after processing, provided it’s properly refrigerated. That’s regardless of whether it is nonfat, low fat, whole or without milk sugar. Experts say unopened milk will last two to five days past its sell-by date, though it might be fine for a week. They recommend drinking an opened container of milk as soon as possible (say, within a few days) for the freshest taste.
How long long-life milk lasts
Buy long-life milk, and your container will last even longer — anywhere from 30 to 90 days when stored properly and unopened. This type of milk goes through ultra-high temperature pasteurization and is packaged in clean containers. “Long-life milk is shelf stable and does not need refrigeration until opened,” an expert says.
1.What is a problem with raw milk?
A.Its potential health risks. B.Its high cost of production.
C.Its unusual taste and mouthfeel. D.Its limited nutritional value.
2.What is a unique feature of long-life milk?
A.It is packaged in traditional ways. B.It requires no cooling before opening.
C.It is processed at low temperatures. D.It has a strict shelf life of seven days.
3.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To show benefits of drinking different milk.
B.To explain nutrition standards for milk products.
C.To illustrate factors influencing the shelf life of milk.
D.To review the history of milk processing techniques.

A great workshop can create innovation, connection and transformation for both companies and individuals. If you’re interested, you’re in the right place!
What a workshop is
A workshop is a structured and interactive session designed to engage participants and foster their active involvement in the process. They are not training sessions where one person teaches everyone else. Nor are they meetings where people give one another updates but rarely cooperate on a task with a structured approach.
Workshop examples
Workshops come in all shapes and sizes, but you might be wondering what they look like in practice and how they are put together.
Ideation
Decision Making
Retrospective
When to Use
You have a complex problem without an obvious solution.
Your team needs to make an important decision together.
You finish a week-long event or a longer project.
How It Works
Team generates many ideas around a topic, then analyses and selects the best ones by sharing them with each other.
Team explores many options, discusses thoughts, and decides on a final decision.
Team reflects together, discusses what went well and what could be improved, and then chooses actions for future skill development.
Key Outcomes
Carrying out innovative ideas quickly .
A team consensus (共识) including all voices.
Team growth and better preparation for next projects.
Workshop best practices
Plan carefully and create a specific agenda to meet the goals of the session, coming up with innovative solutions, building team culture or developing skills.
Bring a facilitator, who will not only design an effective agenda, but help guide the group through the process and release collective intelligence.
Get the right people in the room. Workshops tend to work best with small groups of people (8-15) who are invested in the topic of the session and have insights that can help with the cooperative work.
Design for interactivity. Selecting input from the group and using directly interactive games is a hallmark of an effective workshop.
1.What are participants expected to do in a workshop?
A.Listen carefully and take notes.
B.Report their individual work to others.
C.Evaluate the effectiveness of the session.
D.Get involved in cooperative tasks actively.
2.If you have just finished a project and want to learn from the experience, which one will you choose?
A.Ideation. B.Decision Making.
C.Retrospective. D.Training session.
3.Which of the following is considered a workshop best practice?
A.Planning a flexible agenda. B.Playing games independently.
C.Inviting more facilitators. D.Limiting participants to a small group.

Get ready for the 2026 Graceful Envelope Contest — this year’s theme is Courage and Creativity. Please note that your submission includes two parts: the entry envelope and the carrier envelope.
Requirements for the Carrier Envelope: We ask that all contest entry envelopes (≤7×9 inches, with original artwork and calligraphy) be placed inside a plain carrier envelope (any size, no external art) that is clearly marked on the front with the contest address (see below) and with correct postage (邮资).
Stamps: The 2026 contest will continue to require at least one stamp on the contest entry envelope (preferably one that integrates with the design), but it need not have the full correct postage. For student entries mailed together by a teacher, postage on the contest entry envelope is not required. However, integration of at least one stamp into the design does strengthen a submission.
Information:
Write your name, address, email, contest division (Adult, Grades 9-12, Grades 5-8) and Instagram account (if you wish, for winner publicity) on the back of the Entry Envelope. Incomplete information will cause disqualification.
Submission & Evaluation
Deadline: All carrier envelopes must be submitted by May 31 or they will be disqualified.
Address: The Graceful Envelope Contest, P.O.Box 3688, Merrifield, VA 22116.
Judging Criteria: Entries are judged only on the FRONT based on the contest theme, calligraphy, design, and stamp use.
Prizes: Winners receive certificates and online publication.
A Judge’s Perspective
My advice to entrants is to think outside the box regarding the theme — reject the most obvious ideas! Really let yourself go in thinking of different approaches to the subject. I see each entry envelope as a natural integration of three parts: solid lettering; creative design or illustration; and stamps relating to the theme.
1.What can a carrier envelope be like?
A. B.
C. D.
2.What will definitely disqualify a student from the contest?
A.Mailing the entry on May 30. B.Leaving out the participant division.
C.Lacking the Instagram account. D.Turning in an unstamped entry envelope.
3.What does the judge suggest the participants do?
A.Integrate natural elements. B.Adopt traditional ways.
C.Highlight innovative thinking. D.Explore diverse subjects.

A New Way to Travel to the Canary Islands
This winter, a rail tour company called Byway has introduced a new flight-free package from London to Lanzarote, an island of the Canary Islands in Spain. The journey is a creative combination of train and ferry (轮渡) travel, offering a slower but more environmentally friendly alternative to flying.
The journey can be done in 4-5 days but Byway recommends as an 18-day tour. The trip will involve the Eurostar to Paris then changing trains and riding the rails, before crossing into Spain and via Madrid, down to the coastal city of Cádiz. From there, an overnight ferry takes them to Lanzarote. Byway estimates this trip produces 78% less carbon emissions than a similar trip by plane.
Once in Lanzarote, the package includes a six-night stay in the capital, Arrecife. The city is a perfect base for travelers to explore the island’s unique attractions.
●Hike in a Volcanic Park: Timanfaya National Park features a dramatic landscape formed by volcanic eruptions.
●Visit an Artist’s Legacy: See the work of local artist César Manrique. His influence on the island’s architecture can be seen at sites like Jameos del Agua, a cultural center built inside a lava tunnel.
●Taste Local Wine: The island’s volcanic soil gives its wine a unique flavor. Visitors can tour vineyards and enjoy tastings with local cheese.
●Explore an Underwater Museum: Museo Atlántico is Europe’s first underwater museum. Its statues, placed deep in the ocean, are designed to encourage coral growth and marine life. Guided dives are available for all skill levels.
The trip is customizable, but the core idea is to enjoy a relaxed pace of travel. Prices for the 18-day tour start from £2,915 per person.

The Silk Road city of Khiva in Uzbekistan is often described as a living museum. The Itchan Kala, the inner city, was the first place in Central Asia to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Despite its rich history, Khiva has long been relatively difficult to access due to its remote location and limited transport connections. But 2026 is the year when that changes. A new bullet train service is launching.
Anticipating a rise in visitors, Khiva is expanding its tourism offering. Most attractions are concentrated in the Itchan Kala, a historic walled city rich in the spirit of the Silk Road.
Islam Khodja Minaret: Rising 187 feet, as the second tallest tower in Central Asia, it is in the southeast of the Itchan Kala. It is well worth climbing the 175 steps to the top for bird’s-eye views.
Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum: It is a historic monument, just next to the tower, in memory of a famous poet and folk hero in the 13th century.
Juma Mosque: Located at the centre of the walled city, it is a forest of 213 individually carved wooden poles with complex and unique patterns, some of which date from the 10th century.
Nurullaboy Palace: Unlike the other landmarks, it is to the northwest of the walled city. This palace combines architectural styles and technologies from Khiva and Russia.
In addition to its rich history and newly improved accessibility, Uzbekistan’s national dish, plov, has earned UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status. As for the weather, the best time to visit Khiva is spring or fall, with March 20-21 marking Nowruz - a national holiday filled with concerts and activities.
