Mr Dan Marcanruono, known as Mr Marc, teaches philosophy and moral thinking at a high school. Before becoming an educator, Mr Marc worked in healthcare consulting, drove a delivery truck for a laundry company and worked temporarily in business development. Teaching wasn’t something he had seriously considered until he joined the Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. As part of his scholarship, he was required to teach courses in creative writing to college students. “I don’t think I would have gotten into teaching if I hadn’t gone to that school.” he said.
From his teaching experiences, Mr Marc quickly realized that teaching requires more than just knowing the subject. One moment that reshaped his view of teaching occurred during his first year when a student lost his father. The experience made him realize how essential it is to create an environment that assists students facing personal challenges.
When transitioning from teaching college to high school, Mr Marc admitted that he struggled with constantly having to adapt and come up with new ideas. “Getting accustomed to the workload and curriculum when it’s all so new to me has been one of the biggest challenges so far,” he explained.
Mr Marc believes authority doesn’t come from simply having a title. “There’s a lot I can be doing to make students feel confident and capable in the classroom,” he said. By encouraging a sense of teamwork and mutual respect, he aims to create an environment where students feel valued. “I try to get to know my students and then take time during class to talk to them individually,” he added. This approach helps students feel noticed.
“My ultimate goal as a teacher is to help students start to question the things they take for granted or the things they just assume are true about the world,” said Mr Marc, who describes his teaching journey as a blessing. He acknowledges that his path to teaching was unexpected, but he’s grateful for the experiences he has come across.
4. What can we learn about Mr Marc before he became a teacher?
A. He worked in various fields. B. He specialized in creative writing.
C. He taught at a university full-time. D. He had always dreamed of being a teacher.
5. What made Mr Marc change his view on teaching?

C. Adapting to the new workload and curriculum. D. Making students feel valued in class.
7. What is Mr Marc’s ultimate goal as a teacher?

If you are a bean, nut, and seed lover, nutritionists say that you are on a good diet as these are some of the healthiest foods. Locally, nutritionists say these are very much affordable sources of protein, fibre, iron, and vitamins that offer many health benefits.
Gerald Ruzindana, a nutrition and wellness expert, says protein is a vital nutrient that plays a key role in maintaining and repairing the body, and legumes (豆科植物) are high in amino acids (氨基酸), the building blocks of protein. He says that people should consider consuming legumes on a daily basis. “With their presence of proteins, consuming legumes helps heal and make new tissues in the body,” he says. Legumes are also linked to significantly lower risks of heart disease, high blood pressure according to studies.
“It’s surprising how many people still don’t understand the benefits that come with consuming legumes,” says Erick Musengimana, a nutritionist at Rwanda Diabetes Association. He adds that legumes provide fibre, protein, carbohydrate, B vitamins, and because they are plant foods, they are cholesterol free as well, which makes them a perfect option. From studies, one serving of legumes, which is one-half cup, provides about 115 calories, 20g of carbohydrate, 7–9g of fibre, 8g of protein, and 1g of fat. It has also been established that legumes are an essential part of many healthy eating patterns, including the Mediterranean style of eating and vegetarian.
Along with being a highly nutritious food, evidence shows that legumes can play an important role in the prevention and management of a number of health conditions. Also, nutritionists say that a diet that regularly includes legumes may help with weight control, because of its fibre content and protein, as this means that it will slowly get digested after consumption, therefore, aiding in satiety.
8. According to the passage, what is an important nutrient that sustains and restores the body?
A. Vitamin. B. Amino acid. C. Fibre. D. Protein.
9. Why does the author mention the statistics in paragraph 3?

C. To prove the nutritional value of legumes. D. To compare legumes with other eating styles.
10. What does the underlined word “satiety” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. The state of being full. B. The state of being active.
C. The state of being nutritious. D. The state of being hungry.
11. What’s the main idea of the text?
A. Legumes are helpful to lower risks of heart disease.
B. Legumes are beneficial to people’s physical health.
C. Legumes are a key component of specialized diets.
D. Legumes are economical sources of various nutrients.

Imagine that you are in a crowded place. You do not notice, but someone is watching you and learns your iPhone password(密码). Then, they steal your phone. Suddenly, your photos, documents, financial information, and the rest of your digital life have been taken from you.
Apple, the iPhone maker, recently released an update to its iOS operating system. It has a new feature called Stolen Device Protection (SDP). The feature makes it a lot harder for phone thieves to open the device and access important functions and settings.
Apple says the feature adds extra security for users. It addresses a drawback that thieves have used to lock device owners out of their Apple accounts, delete their photos and other files from their iCloud, and take money from their bank accounts.
SDP keeps track of a user’s “familiar locations”, such as their home or workplace. It also reduces the importance of passwords. Instead, it favors “biometric”(生物识别的)features such as faces or fingerprints, which are a lot harder to copy.
If a thief tries to erase or reset an iPhone, the device will require a Face ID or Touch ID scan to confirm that the person is the rightful owner. The new feature does not let someone use the password or any other backup method.
Another part of the new feature is designed to slow down thieves trying to change security settings. For example, if someone tries to sign out of an Apple ID account, change the password or reset the phone in an unfamiliar location, they will have to authenticate(证实)by using Face ID or Touch ID, wait an hour, and then do a second facial or fingerprint scan.
Changing an Apple ID password, updating Apple ID security settings, adding or removing Face or Touch ID, and turning off the Find My device feature or Stolen Device Protection also will lead to this feature.
12. What is the function of paragraph 1?
A. To set a phone-stealing scene.
B. To introduce the following text.
C. To remind readers to be cautious.
D. To explain how password theft directly causes device loss.
13. What can SDP do to add security for users?
A. Stop iCloud files from being deleted.
B. Make it less likely to enter the phone.
C. Secure Apple accounts with remote locking.
D. Prevent thieves from accessing bank accounts.
14. What does SDP require for resetting a stolen iPhone?
A. Previous passwords. B. A new security setting. C. An Apple ID account. D. Identity recognition.
15. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. iPhone’s anti-theft measure. B. Apple ID security settings.
C. Usage of biometric features. D. Apple’s iOS operating system.
【答案】12. B 13. B 14. D 15. A

考查主语从句。句意:张兰平教书已有33年,但让她与众不同的是她的一对拐杖。空处需用连接词引导主语从句,从句缺少主语,表示具体的内容,所以空处需用连接代词what引导主语从句。

【答案】One possible version:
Dear Alan,
During the National Day holiday, I watched an episode of Natural Legend, and I couldn’t wait to share it. The programme focused on the unique wildlife in Australia, showing how kangaroos care for their joeys in pouches and how colourful parrots build nests in eucalyptus trees. It also introduced the great efforts Australians have made to protect the endangered platypus.
This experience really touched me. I learned every creature plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance. It also made me realize protecting nature is not just a slogan but something we all need to act on in daily life. I hope one day I can visit Australia and see these lovely animals in person.
Yours,
Li Hua

第二节 (满分 25 分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Thanksgiving Day was just around the corner, and as a first-grade teacher, I was excited to give my class a heartfelt homework: draw a picture of something they were grateful for. I expected to see drawings of turkeys and pumpkin pictures, symbols of the holiday they might enjoy.
Most of the children did draw exactly that — scenes of feasts and family gatherings. Bright colours filled their pages, showing smiling families around dinner tables laden with food. But among this festive atmosphere, there was Lucas, a quiet and sad boy who often stayed by my side while others played at recess (课间休息).
Lucas was different from the other children. His eyes, always filled with a sadness I could only guess at, seemed to carry the weight of the world. I often found him standing close to me during recess, his small hand sometimes slipping into mine as we watched the other children play. “Take my hand, Lucas, we’ll go outside,” I’d say gently, and he’d follow, his trust obvious in his grip (紧握).
When it was Lucas’s turn to share his drawing, he held up his paper, showing a big hand. Just a hand, with nothing else around it. The simplicity of it stirred the imagination of his classmates. Whose hand could it be?
One child guessed it was the hand of a farmer, explaining that farmers raise turkeys and provide food. Another suggested it was the hand of a police officer, symbolizing protection and care. The discussion went on and on, each child offering a different interpretation (解读).
As the children moved on to other assignments, the image of the hand remained in my mind. I couldn’t help but feel there was something more to Lucas’s drawing, something deeper and more personal. I approached his desk, my heart heavy with curiosity and concern. “Whose hand is it, Lucas?” I asked softly.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

During storytime, I let him turn the pages as I read.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】参考答案
“It’s yours, Miss White,” he whispered, looking away shyly. I froze for a moment, all those little moments with Lucas rushing back to me: the recess when he stood quietly by my side and slipped his small hand into mine for comfort. It turned out that Lucas was most thankful for my hand, the hand that had comforted him and shown him that he wasn’t alone. Tears welled up in my eyes. I was so moved. I never realized my casual daily care could be such warm light for this lonely little boy.
During storytime, I let him turn the pages as I read. When he slipped his hand into mine, I gave it a gentle squeeze. His eyes met mine, and for the first time, I saw not sadness, but happiness. After that, I encouraged him to play with peers. Little by little, soft smiles appeared on Lucas’s face more often, and he even began to join his classmates’ games during recess. I finally understood that the true meaning of Thanksgiving lies in the small kindness we give without expectation, which can warm a person’s whole world.

A. His scholarship requirement. B. A student’s personal tragedy.
C. His Master’s program in creative writing. D. The difference between college and high school teaching.
6. Which of the following is a challenge Mr Marc faced when teaching high school?
A. Building authority among students. B. Helping students facing personal challenges.
C. Adapting to the new workload and curriculum. D. Making students feel valued in class.
7. What is Mr Marc’s ultimate goal as a teacher?
A. To help students develop critical thinking. B. To make students feel confident in class.
C. To encourage teamwork among students. D. To get to know each student individually.

A. To illustrate that legumes are popular. B. To explain why legumes are cholesterol-free.

How to Stay Focused
Staying focused can help you complete a variety of professional and personal tasks, from studying for a test to finishing your work an hour early. There are various practical steps you can take to help yourself focus better.
Make a to-do list. Making a to-do list at the beginning of every day or week can make you feel more focused and positive to continue your work. You will feel more fulfilled when you check those tasks off your list and move on to the next one. ____16____
Organize your workspace. Having a clean space can help you focus and get your work done with much more concentration. ____17____ Clean off your desk to include only the things you need to work on, leaving just a few photos or souvenirs to help you relax a bit.
Give yourself a time limit for each task. ____18____ Next to each item on the list, write about how long it’ll take you to complete each task. Be realistic about this judgement. Then, try to complete each task within the range of each time limit.
Make time for breaks during the day. ____20____ Many people incorrectly think that multi- tasking is great because it allows you to deal with a variety of tasks at the same time. To the contrary, multi-tasking actually confuses your brain and slows you down, keeping you from being fully engaged in any one task.
