By the time she got back, there was water all over the kitchen floor. We called a repairman, only to be told the dishwasher would have to be replaced. A new one was ordered but it would not arrive for more than a month. As my mother had a tight schedule, I had no choice but to take on the task of washing dishes by hand after dinner. I soon found myself faced with a pile of thankless dishes in the sink, urging me to get on with it and deliver on my duty. At the beginning, I was annoyed when doing the dishes. I was in a rush to be done with them since I had an endless list of things to finish as a high school student taking a tough course load. Gradually, I realized that, for about 15 minutes every day, I could slow down time and forget everything in the world as my mind, eyes and hands focused on a simple task that would always result in success. We did finally get the new dishwasher placed. However, I continued to wash dishes by hand after dinner, perplexing my mother greatly. Washing dishes by hand has been more educational than I could have ever imagined. I’m running around stressed most of the day. There are homework, projects, quizzes and tests competing for my attention and time. I’ve caged myself in a prison of my dreams and expectations, cut off from many aspects of the world. However, standing at the same spot every day in front of the kitchen window washing dishes has allowed me to recover some of it. My mind has taken snap-shots of the changing view over the yard outside the kitchen window and reflected on the passage of time in this sliver of the universe in front of me. 4. Why did the author start washing dishes by hand? A. His mother requested him to do so. B. The old dishwasher broke down. C. He attempted to please his father. D. The new dishwasher was extremely expensive. 5. What did the author think of dish-washing originally? A. It was a stress-reliever. B. It was stressful. C. It was tough. D. It was a money-saver. 6. What does the underlined word “perplexing” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Offending. B. Discouraging. C. Puzzling. D. Inspiring. 7. What can we learn about the author from the last two paragraphs? A. He regretted devoting too much time to study. B. He decided to give up some of his goals. C. He desired to move to a house with a larger yard. D. He grew more sensitive to the beauty of nature. C In the summer of 2021, an unseasonal event took place. More than 100 miles of Florida’s coast around Tampa Bay became an oxygen-depleted (缺氧的) zone containing dead fish along the nearby shoreline. Much of the conversation around our climate crisis highlights the emission of greenhouse gases and their effect on warming, sea-level rise and ocean acidification We hear little about the effect of climate change on oxygen levels, particularly in oceans and lakes. But water without adequate oxygen cannot support life. For the three billion people who depend on coastal fisheries for income, declining ocean oxygen levels are devastating. As ocean and atmospheric scientists focus on climate, we believe that oceanic oxygen levels are the next big victim of global warming. To stop the situation from worsening, we need to expand our attention to include the dangerous state of oceanic oxygen levels — the life-support system of our planet. We need to accelerate ocean-based climate solutions that boost oxygen. Examples include nature-based solutions such as those discussed at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) held in Glasgow. Enhanced monitoring of oxygen and the establishment of an oxygen-accounting system are a must. Putting oxygen into the climate story motivates us to do the work to understand the deep systemic changes happening in our complex atmospheric and oceanic systems. We celebrated the return of humpback whales in recent years to an increasingly clean New York Harbor and Hudson River. However, dead fish blocked the Hudson in the summer as warmer waters carried less oxygen. Ecosystem changes connected to physical and chemical system-level data may point the way to new approaches to climate solutions. It includes an enhanced understanding of the life-support system of our planet. Roughly 40 percent of the world’s people depend on the ocean for their livelihoods. If we do not save marine life from oxygen starvation, we starve ourselves. 8. What is the result of less ocean oxygen according to the text? A. A rise in the coastal fisheries. B. The warming of the atmosphere. C. The emission of greenhouse gases. D. An increase in deaths of sea animals. 9. What can we infer from Paragraph 3? A. Attention to oceans is necessary. B. Global warming effects are serious. C. Oceanic oxygen levels are dangerous. D. Ways to boost oceanic oxygen are urgent. 10. Why does the author mention humpback whales in Paragraph 4? A. To bring in an oxygen-accounting system in climate. B. To explain the urgency of oxygen levels in atmosphere. C. To call for more attention to oxygen starvation in waters. D. To show the achievements in reducing air pollution. 11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Save Marine Life B. Make Oceans Safe C. Let Oceans Breathe D. Keep the Marine System D In a world that feels increasingly complex and uncontrollable, a revolutionary psychological (心理学的) approach has attracted millions. Known as the “Let Them” theory, this concept, popularized by Mel Robbins in 2024, has since gone viral, gaining over 15 million views. The theory encourages a powerful form of acceptance, urging us to focus on our reactions and inner states rather than trying to control others or the outside, or what we call external world. Adopting the “Let Them” method can bring several psychological benefits. Primarily, it lowers stress and anxiety by reducing the effort spent on trying to manage the uncontrollable. In relationships, this approach can lessen conflict and build mutual respect, as it supports personal autonomy and self-control. The core of the theory is self-improvement and personal choice, which leads to healthier and more balanced connections with others. So, what happens in your mind when you practice “Let Them”? First, you quickly reduce the internal struggle that comes from fighting against reality. Instead of thinking, “This shouldn’t be happening,” you start asking, “This is happening, so what should I do now?” or “What is the best way for me to respond to this situation?” This change in thinking calms the body’s stress response. In professional psychology, this is known as “radical acceptance,” a skill for tolerating suffering. Therapies (治疗) based on acceptance can greatly decrease psychological stress and worry. Furthermore, allowing others to have their autonomy can improve how relationships work. It reduces defensiveness and increases mutual respect. When you consciously give up trying to control others, you create space for them to change voluntarily. Most people value feeling trusted and respected in their relationships. This shift in perspective reduces feelings of being pressured, trapped, and annoyed. When individuals feel supported and empowered to make their own suitable decisions, they often feel closer and more open to others. 12. What does the “Let Them” theory encourage us to do? A. Concentrate on how to react. B. Overlook the outer world. C. Accept the increasing complexity. D. Stay focused despite difficulties. 13. How does the application of “Let Them” benefit relationships? A. To limit personal autonomy. B. To build mutual respect. C. To push others to change. D. To erase all negative feelings. 14. What is the impact of radical acceptance? A. Refusing suffering. B. Strengthening stress response. C. Discouraging hard realities. D. Accepting what has happened. 15. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To explain a popular psychological theory. B. To persuade people to stop controlling others. C. To explain how a theory became popular online. D. To compare different methods of stress management. Do you have a hard time staying on task? That puzzled me. Charlotte loved to sing. She sang in the shower and the car and just about everywhere else, despite her struggles with high pitch (高音). Now she could carry a tune a bit better than last year, but I didn’t think she’d improved enough yet to sing a solo. Reminding myself that all things are indeed possible in grade school, I chose not to question her confidence. I soon learned that my two other daughters in 11th grade, Monica and Corina, were also to perform in a different Christmas program on the same night. They were skilled singers and piano players. This time, they were giving a piano performance that night, an hour later than their younger sister. The three girls practiced everyday at home, filling our room with singing, piano music and laughter. Sometimes the two teenagers would give Charlotte some tips on improving her pitch, and could even accompany her singing “Silent Night” on the piano in a very short time. Knowing them well-prepared, I looked forward to the Christmas programs this year. The big day finally came, and I came to school to watch Charlotte’s performance with delight. However, things went wrong. Shortly after dropping her backstage, she found me in the hall, eyes filled with tears. Her teacher explained there had been a misunderstanding — Charlotte was not picked to sing a solo. Heartbroken, she asked to leave. Though upset, I focused on comforting her. Teenagers notice everything. When we arrived at their auditorium earlier than scheduled, Monica and Corina quickly realized something was wrong. When I explained the situation, they showed sincere sympathy. “Come with us, Charlotte. You can see backstage and meet our friends.” The invitation beat any flavor of ice-cream, and Charlotte gladly accepted and went with them. I sat with the audience and waited, until the host announced my girls’ names. Monica and Corina walked onto the stage, gesturing Charlotte to join them. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I went to the backstage and found the three girls chatting happily. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高一年级下学期期中考试英语卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题:每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. B 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段中“We called a repairman, only to be told the dishwasher would have to be replaced. A new one was ordered but it would not arrive for more than a month. As my mother had a tight schedule, I had no choice but to take on the task of washing dishes by hand after dinner.(我们电话联系了维修人员,却被告知必须更换洗碗机,新的已预订但是至少要一个月才能到位。我的母亲日程满满,我别无选择只能在每日饭后手工清洗)”可知,作者开始手洗碗是因为旧的洗碗机坏了。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“At the beginning, I was annoyed when doing the dishes. I was in a rush to be done with them since I had an endless list of things to finish as a high school student taking a tough course load.(一开始,我洗碗的时候很恼火。作为一名课业繁重的高中生,我有无穷无尽的事情要做,所以我急于完成洗碗的任务)”可知,作者一开始认为洗碗很有压力。 【6题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段中“We did finally get the new dishwasher placed. However, I continued to wash dishes by hand after dinner, perplexing my mother immensely. (我们确实更换了新的洗碗机,但是我继续坚持饭后手洗碗筷,这perplexing我的妈妈)”可知,作者继续手洗碗的行为让母亲很困惑,所以perplexing的意思是“使困惑”,Puzzling意思一致。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“However, standing at the same spot every day in front of the kitchen window washing dishes has allowed me to recover some of it. My mind has taken snap-shots of the changing view over the yard outside the kitchen window and reflected on the passage of time in this sliver of the universe in front of me.(然而,每天站在厨房窗户前的同一个地方洗碗,让我重新找回了一些。我的脑海中闪现出厨房窗外院子里不断变化的景色,并思考着我面前这片宇宙中时间的流逝)”可知,从最后两段中可以了解到作者对自然之美变得更加敏感。 C In the summer of 2021, an unseasonal event took place. Keep the Marine System 【答案】8. D 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第二段中“ In the summer of 2021, an unseasonal event took place. More than 100 miles of Florida’s coast around Tampa Bay became an oxygen-depleted (缺氧的) zone containing dead fish along the nearby shoreline.(2021年夏天,发生了一件非季节性事件。佛罗里达州坦帕湾周围100多英里的海岸线变成了一个缺氧区,附近的海岸线上有死鱼。)”可知,海洋氧气减少会导致海洋生物死亡数量的增加。故选D项。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“As ocean and atmospheric scientists focus on climate, we believe that oceanic oxygen levels are the next big victim of global warming. To stop the situation from worsening, we need to expand our attention to include the dangerous state of oceanic oxygen levels — the life-support system of our planet. We need to accelerate ocean-based climate solutions that boost oxygen. (随着海洋和大气科学家关注气候,我们相信海洋氧气水平是全球变暖的下一个大受害者。为了阻止情况恶化,我们需要扩大我们的注意力,包括海洋氧气水平的危险状态——我们星球的生命维持系统。我们需要加快以海洋为基础的增加氧气的气候解决方案)”可知,研究提高海洋氧气含量的解决方案迫在眉睫。故选D项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“We celebrated the return of humpback whales in recent years to an increasingly clean New York Harbor and Hudson River. However, dead fish blocked the Hudson in the summer as warmer waters carried less oxygen.(近年来,我们庆祝座头鲸回归日益清洁的纽约港和哈德逊河。然而,在夏季,由于温暖的海水携带的氧气较少,死鱼阻塞了哈德逊河)”可知,文中先介绍哈德逊河座头鲸的回归,再指出由于水中氧气含量的减少,大量的死鱼阻塞了哈德逊河。作者暗示虽然座头鲸回归,但也可能因为中氧气含量的不足而死亡,作者借此呼吁人们更多关注水中缺氧问题。故选C项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“But water without adequate oxygen cannot support life. For the three billion people who depend on coastal fisheries for income, declining ocean oxygen levels are devastating.(但是没有足够氧气的水是无法维持生命的。对于依靠沿海渔业获取收入的30亿人来说,海洋含氧量的下降是毁灭性的)”、第三段中“We need to accelerate ocean-based climate solutions that boost oxygen. Examples include nature-based solutions such as those discussed at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) held in Glasgow.(我们需要加快以海洋为基础的增加氧气的气候解决方案。 D In a world that feels increasingly complex and uncontrollable, a revolutionary psychological (心理学的) approach has attracted millions. A 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第一段中的“The theory encourages a powerful form of acceptance, urging us to focus on our reactions and inner states rather than trying to control others or the outside, or what we call external world.(该理论倡导一种强有力的态度——即接纳。它鼓励我们关注自身的反应和内心状态,而非试图去控制他人、外部事物或者我们所谓的外部世界。)”可知,“Let Them”这一理论鼓励我们关注如何做出回应。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“In relationships, this approach can lessen conflict and build mutual respect, as it supports personal autonomy and self-control.(在人际关系中,这种做法能够减少冲突并增进彼此的尊重,因为它支持个人的自主性和自我控制能力。)” 根据第三段中的“Instead of thinking, “This shouldn’t be happening,” you start asking, “This is happening, so what should I do now?” or “What is the best way for me to respond to this situation?” This change in thinking calms the body’s stress response. In professional psychology, this is known as “radical acceptance,” a skill for tolerating suffering.(你不再会想“这不该发生”,而是会开始思考“这已经发生了,那我现在应该怎么做?”或者“对于这种情况,我最好的应对方式是什么?”这种思维方式的转变能够平复身体的应激反应。在心理学领域,这种转变被称为“彻底接受”,是一种应对痛苦的技能。)”可知,彻底接纳的影响是接受已经发生的事情。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,结合根据第一段中的“Known as the “Let Them” theory, this concept, popularized by Mel Robbins in 2024, has since gone viral, gaining over 15 million views. The theory encourages a powerful form of acceptance, urging us to focus on our reactions and inner states rather than trying to control others or the outside, or what we call external world.(这一理论被称为“放手让他们去做”理论,由梅尔·罗宾斯于2024年推广,此后迅速走红,获得了超过1500万次的观看量。 Do you have a hard time staying on task? In response to the appeal for opinions on lunchtime TV programs, I am writing to offer my recommendations./ As a student who spends lunchtime in the canteen every day, I’d like to share my thoughts on this issue. In my view, nature documentaries with English narration are a good choice. For one thing, given the requirement of students keeping themselves away from academic stress during lunch break, the nature documentaries don’t demand intense concentration, enabling students to pick up vocabulary and pronunciation in a relaxed, stress-free context. For another, they can open a window to the natural world, which not only broadens students’ horizons but also provides a feast for their eyes. I look forward to seeing the improvements in the canteen programs and hope that everyone can have an enjoyable dining experience. In my view, nature documentaries with English narration are a good choice. I think that nature documentaries with English narration are a good choice. 1】 For another, they can open a window to the natural world, which not only broadens students’ horizons but also provides a feast for their eyes. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Monica and Corina walked onto the stage, gesturing Charlotte to join them. Charlotte stood there in shock, her eyes still wet with tears, too shy to move forward. The two sisters waved at her warmly and nodded encouragingly, and the audience also clapped gently to urge her on. Finally, she took a deep breath and stepped onto the stage nervously. As the soft piano tune flowed out, Monica nodded at her, and Charlotte opened her mouth to sing Silent Night. Her voice was small at first, then became steady with her sisters’ gentle accompaniment and harmonious backup singing. When the last note faded, the auditorium erupted into thunderous and lasting applause. I went to the backstage and found the three girls chatting happily. Charlotte was talking animatedly, her face glowing with joy and pride, no trace of sadness left. Monica and Corina were listening with smiles, occasionally pinching her cheek and praising her for singing wonderfully. I walked over and hugged the three tightly, my heart filled with warmth and moved. Charlotte looked up at me, her eyes bright, and said softly, “Mom, I sang my solo, and it was amazing!” That Christmas night, the warm sisterly love turned a regret into the most precious and unforgettable memory in our hearts. 词汇激活 行为类 ①前进:move forward/step forward ②拥抱:hug/embrace ③使感动:move/touch 情绪类 ①害羞的:shy/timid/reserved ②快乐:joy/happiness/delight 【点睛】[高分句型1].
