The third year of junior high school is hard and busy. You may not have enough sleep. As we all know, being short of sleep is bad for health. What’s more, experts have found that it could let you have trouble making friends.
A study of a Tsinghua University research team showed people who don’t get enough sleep can be less willing to make friends. They are too tired to go out.
The researchers did a survey about 100 middle school students. When they had a good sleep at night, they could talk to strangers easily. When they stayed up late, all of them wanted to be alone in the next day.
Dr. Song, the leader of the team, said, “The less sleep you get, the fewer friends you will make. At the same time, people may think you are strange and stay away from you. This can make you feel lonely and cause you to sleep even less.”
So if you want to be in good health and make more friends, sleeping well may help. After a good sleep, you will be cleverer and more outgoing. So get enough sleep and be more popular.

Do you think automated (自动化的) kitchens only exist in science fiction shows like Star Trek? Well, think again! Nowadays, robots are already being used to do many things in the kitchen, like frying chicken, making pizzas, and preparing salads. And artificial intelligence (AI) can even create new recipes based on the ingredients (食材) available in a kitchen. There are also more advanced (先进的) ideas being developed to make high-quality restaurant kitchens automated.
There are some good things about AI kitchens. For example, cooks don’t have to do boring jobs like peeling potatoes or standing in one place for hours. This saves time and lets people do more important things. AI can also provide different kinds of special diets and tastes to meet personal needs.
However, there are also problems. Cooking is not just about making food. It’s a good activity that helps people communicate and express themselves. If we don’t need humans to cook anymore, these good things might disappear. Family relationships might not be as good without the time spent together in the kitchen.
Moreover, the kitchen is like a science lab at home. It’s important for kids to learn about materials, chemistry, and how to solve problems through cooking.
We also have to think about cultural problems. Sometimes, AI might change traditional recipes and cooking methods because it doesn’t understand cultural details well. This could make the dishes less diverse (多样的). If we rely too much on technology for cooking, the food might taste the same. It’s similar to how AI art images look alike in different apps.
In conclusion, while new technologies bring convenience, they also have a price. We need to think about the possible problems they might cause in our society, especially when it comes to something as important as food in our daily lives.
13. How does the writer start the text?
A. By telling a story. B. By showing a fact.
C. By giving an example. D. By asking a question.
14. What is one advantage (优点) of automated kitchens?
A. It makes family relationships better. B. It helps cooks do boring and tiring jobs.
C. It teaches kids to solve problems quickly. D. It makes all food taste different.
15. What can we infer from the text?
A. People will never use automated kitchens in the future.
B. Kids can learn a lot of useful skills through cooking.
C. AI can completely take the place of humans in all cultures.
D. The writer thinks technology only brings good changes.
16. What is the writer’s attitude (态度) toward the widespread use of AI kitchens?
A. Fully angry. B. Strongly against.
C. Careful and thoughtful. D . Uninterested.
