Introduce the learning objectives of this period.

Activity 2 Practising using words learned in this unit
1. Revise the meaning and usage of the words in the box, complete the news report using the correct forms of the words, and then check the answers and make a news headline for it.
1) Check the answers.
Answers: mechanics, disabilities, consultant, instability, contracted, criteria, shared, tune, input.
2) Now read the passage and answer the questions to reconstruct the text.
(1) Why does Liu Fei determine to volunteer to work in Africa and want to engage in AIDS prevention?
Because many Africans have suffered from AIDS and he thinks it’s important for mankind to build a shared future.
(2) What kind of difficulties would the volunteers meet in Africa?
Instability and violence.
(3) How would they overcome those difficulties?
By sharing their knowledge and skills.
3) Make a news headline for it. When making a headline for a passage, we should take the following three aspects into account: the main idea of the passage, the writing purpose and the type of the passage.

2. Find out what elements should be included in a poster for volunteer work.
A poster introducing a volunteer project should include: Name, places, participants, purpose, activities, time length, tips, attentions, pictures, diagrams, etc.
3. In groups, decide on the volunteer work that you would like to do. Discuss the following questions.
1) In what way could you help others?
2) How could others participate in your activities?
3) What business could you set up to help others?
4. Show a sample poster for volunteer work.
5. Create a poster to explain more about your volunteer work (in class or after class), and then present it to the class. Take a class vote on the best three posters.
