“What are you doing?” my fifth-grade teacher inquired as I leaned over the side of my desk, packing my backpack. “The bell rings in a few minutes,” I murmured. “Unpack your ___1___. You still have five minutes left. The more you do here in class with me, the less you have to do at home,” she said gently but ___2___. She was a very kind and sweet woman, but I knew she meant business, too.
___3___, I pulled my math assignment back out and worked slowly as the clock ticked. The bell finally rang, and I stuffed my homework in my backpack and rushed to my next class. I cannot remember how many times per day she would repeat, “Use your time wisely.” Yet her words ___4___: working until the bell became second nature.
In middle school, I continued the ___5___ she taught me. I worked on my tasks until the bell rang. And she was ___6___. The more I did in class, the more time off I had at home. The more time I had at home, the more time I had for projects and hobbies. I ___7___ this habit until my senior year in high school, having an entire year’s worth of college classes completed before I graduated. I used my time wisely. I followed that ___8___ in nearly every aspect of my adult life: my education, my career, and my family. At age ten, I didn’t understand. I do now. “Using time wisely” isn’t just about productivity. It’s about choosing what ___9___ — prioritizing what counts, treasuring the time spent with loved ones, and living life. In the large, unspoiled wide area of wilderness, Isla and her loyal golden retriever (寻回犬), Finn, moved together in perfect harmony. Together, they walked through many different kinds of land, from dark forests with old secrets to rough mountain paths that reached high into the sky. Their connection was not just by chance, but by shared dreams: Isla looked for peace away from the noise of the city, while every sound of the wild filled Finn with energy.
As the first light of dawn touched the earth, Isla put away memories of the night, while Finn, full of excitement, wagged his tail, looking forward to the day’s joys. Their journey was not planned by maps or compasses, but by the gentle feelings of their hearts, comforted by nature’s soft winds.
One evening at dusk, colored with deep red and light purple, a sudden storm surprised them. Heavy raindrops turned familiar paths into flowing streams. Trying hard to find a safe place, Isla was caught by the strong current. It was Finn’s natural courage that showed bright in that moment of hopelessness: he moved quickly, held her backpack tightly, and pulled her back to safety.
Huddled together on the rocks, they held each other against the storm’s anger. Isla whispered stories of past days and faraway places into Finn’s ears. In return, he moved slowly and made soft sounds, sharing silent stories with her.
When the storm died down, the world they knew looked strange. Paths they once walked on had disappeared, and familiar signs were unrecognizable. For the first time, Isla felt lost. But Finn, with firm confidence, stepped forward, trusting his instincts to find the way ahead.
As days turned into weeks, just when hope seemed far away, a small hidden village welcomed them warmly. Curious about their long and exciting journey, the villagers greeted them, and their story became part of the local legend. But the call of the wild was too strong to ignore. Rested and ready, the two set off again into nature, carrying the wishes of their new friends.
Through their colorful adventures, it was clear that their real strength was not in beating the forces of nature, but in their strong connection. The wild was just a place for their endless friendship and determination to shine.

On March 27, 2025, China’s National Health Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation, two key departments in charge of public health supervision and market regulation, jointly issued revised food safety standards that are targeted at helping consumers make more scientific and safer choices in their daily diet. These new standards, which have been polished after repeated discussions and field investigations, introduce a series of significant changes to food label regulations, aiming to eliminate misleading information on packaged food surfaces.
A core adjustment in the new standards is the official prohibition of misleading phrases such as “no added” and “zero added” on the labels of all packaged foods. Although these terms have long been frequently adopted by food producers to attract consumers who show a strong preference for natural and additive-free products, they often cause serious misunderstandings among the public due to their incomplete and inaccurate expression. For example, a carton of juice marked “no added sucrose” may still contain a considerable amount of natural sugars naturally present in the fresh fruits used for production, which easily leads consumers to mistakenly believe that the product is completely sugar-free and thus ignore its sugar content.
The new standards are mainly designed to make food labels more accurate and transparent, guiding consumers to focus on the complete ingredients lists and detailed nutrition facts printed on packages instead of being tricked by exaggerated (夸张的) marketing slogans. It is clearly specified that common allergens (过敏源) in food, such as peanuts, milk and soybeans, must be highlighted in bold or underlined font, so that people with food allergies can quickly identify potential dangers and avoid eating harmful food. In addition, a brand-new “digital label” system is launched: by scanning the QR code on each package, consumers can easily obtain comprehensive information, including the origin of raw materials, standard production processes and proper storage methods.
Meanwhile, the previous complicated expressions for expiration dates are simplified into direct “use by” dates, and some specific food products are allowed to be labeled with a “best before” date, a measure taken to effectively reduce unnecessary food waste caused by ambiguous expiration information. All food enterprises across the country are given a two-year transition period to use up their existing stock of old packaging and fully adjust their production and labeling procedures to meet the requirements of the new standards.
Relevant industry experts point out that these new standards not only effectively protect the rights and interests of consumers by preventing them from being misled by false labels but also urge food producers to shift their focus from relying on misleading promotions to continuously improving the quality of their products. These important changes fully reflect China’s continuous efforts to enhance the transparency of the food industry and firmly safeguard the public’s health and safety.
28. Why are “no added” phrases banned on food labels?
A. They are useless for marketing.
B. They mislead consumers about ingredients.
C. They fail to meet the allergen highlighting rule.
D. They misguide consumers and conflict with digital labels.
29. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Digital labels help people with poor eyesight.
B. A majority of food products will use “best before” date labels.
C. Some firms may face difficulties in the two-year transition period.
D. Consumers used to overlook detailed ingredients lists on packages.
30. What does the underlined word “transparency” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Timely product update. B. Strict quality inspection.
C. Information openness. D. Rapid market expansion.
31. What is the main topic of the passage?
A. Issuing new food safety standards. B. Regulating misleading food label terms.
C. Introducing digital food information labels. D. Protecting public food consumption rights.
【答案】28. B 29. D 30. C 31. A
【解析】
【导语】本文主要讲的是2025 年我国两大部门联合发布新版修订版食品安全标准,重点规范食品标签管理。
【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“A core adjustment in the new standards is the official prohibition of misleading phrases such as “no added” and “zero added” on the labels of all packaged foods. Although these terms have long been frequently adopted by food producers to attract consumers who show a strong preference for natural and additive-free products, they often cause serious misunderstandings among the public due to their incomplete and inaccurate expression.(新标准的一项核心调整是,正式禁止在所有包装食品的标签上使用“无添加”和“零添加”等误导性用语。尽管这些术语长期以来被食品生产商频繁采用,以吸引那些对天然、无添加产品有强烈偏好的消费者,但由于其表述不完整、不准确,它们常常在公众中引起严重的误解。)”可知,食品标签上不能使用“未添加”这类表述是因为它们在成分方面误导了消费者。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“The new standards are mainly designed to make food labels more accurate and transparent, guiding consumers to focus on the complete ingredients lists and detailed nutrition facts printed on packages instead of being tricked by exaggerated (夸张地) marketing slogans.(新标准核心目的是让食品标签更准确、透明,引导消费者关注包装上完整的配料表和详细营养成分表,不被夸张营销标语误导。)”可知,新标准引导消费者不再被营销话术骗,转而关注配料表和营养表,说明以前大家都忽略了包装上的详细成分列表。
【30题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段“The new standards are mainly designed to make food labels more accurate and transparent, guiding consumers to focus on the complete ingredients lists and detailed nutrition facts printed on packages instead of being tricked by exaggerated (夸张地) marketing slogans.(新标准核心目的是让食品标签更准确、透明,引导消费者关注包装上完整的配料表和详细营养成分表,不被夸张营销标语误导。)”
通读全文,尤其是第一段“On March 27, 2025, China’s National Health Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation, two key departments in charge of public health supervision and market regulation, jointly issued revised food safety standards that are targeted at helping consumers make more scientific and safer choices in their daily diet.(2025 年 3 月 27 日,负责公共卫生监管和市场监管的两大核心部门 —— 国家卫健委与国家市场监督管理总局,联合发布修订后的食品安全标准,旨在帮助消费者在日常饮食中做出更科学、更安全的选择。)”可知,本文主要讲的是2025 年我国两大部门联合发布新版修订版食品安全标准,重点规范食品标签管理,因此主要话题是“Issuing new food safety standards(发布新版食品安全标准)”。
D
Life, it could be argued, is like a long game of blackjack. In one common version of this, each person is dealt with two playing cards. The aim is for your hand to add to 21, or as close to this as you can get. Player can either “stick” with their existing hand or “twist”— asking to be dealt another card to add to their total. The risk, of course, is that you exceed 21 and are eliminated.
This may sound far removed from everyday choices, but many of our most important life decisions boil down to such dilemmas. Should I stay put or take the leap and move house? Should I remain in my job or start my own business? The inherent uncertainty leaves many of us ending up staying in the status quo, never giving ourselves the chance to win big.
Perhaps we can learn a trick from “maximisers”: individuals with a strong urge to find the optimal(最佳的)outcome for every situation. They would be more willing to”twist” if their current options aren’t working. And this approach to life certainly has some advantages. For example, among a sample of students looking for work, maximisers ended up getting a 20% higher salary compared with “satisficers”, people who tend to choose the first acceptable option.
Nevertheless, in reality there are simply too many options to weigh up the pros and cons of every choice. Natural maximisers can feel so overwhelmed with the options, and they are troubled by the doubt that a superior option might be among those they did not evaluate. Perhaps as a consequence, they tend to suffer badly from feelings of regret and”fear of missing out”, which affects their overall life satisfaction.
Fortunately, a technique appears to tackle the problem. The strategy is known as psychological distancing, which is akin to taking a fly-on-the-wall view of things. There are many ways to apply it. You might imagine you are advising a close friend in a similar dilemma, for example, or you could try to predict how you would view the decision and its consequences at some time in the mid-to-distant future.
Previous research has shown that psychological distancing techniques contribute to greater intellectual humility, which encourages people to consider more sources of information before coming to a judgement. This approach can also help us deal with the consequences of our big decisions. When using psychological distancing techniques, people are better able to regulate their emotions— which we must do to process the choices we have made. In addition, discussing life’s disappointments from such a distanced perspective helps us extract meaning from our experiences. That should prevent you becoming immersed in the feelings of regret that can follow stick-or-twist decisions.
As everyone knows, Lady Luck won’t work in your favour all the time, no matter how smart your decision making has been. Nevertheless, by applying this psychological research, you can make the most of your hand— and take greater pleasure in the thrill of the game.
32. The author mentions “maximisers” mainly to _______.
A. highlight the advantages of maximisers
B. bring out a sound way of making choices
C. illustrate the difficulty of decision making
D. emphasize the value of informed decisions
33. What can be inferred about psychological distancing?
A. Intellectual humble people can optimize psychological distancing.
B. The increased psychological distance may expose people to a feeling of regret.
C. Increasing psychological distance assists in forming a proper view of negative moods.
D. Emotional regulation is crucial in the application of psychological distancing techniques.
34. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The first choice should be prioritized.
B. Resolving a dilemma ensures the chance to win big.
C. Stick-or-twist decisions are vital in reshaping people’s future.
D. Looking at the bigger picture results in better decision making.
【答案】32. B 33. C 34. D

Rivers are very important. Humans rely on them for food and water. But rivers can destroy things, too. They can flood, or rise over their banks, making the water run into the nearby land. Floods can also kill humans and wildlife. However, floods are not always bad. Some ecosystems need them every once in a while.
Flooding can not only drown animals but also destroy habitats. For example, a flood in India in 2012 killed many one-horned rhinos (单角犀牛). Flood waters can pick up dirt from riverbanks, which blocks rivers and streams and prevent them from flowing. Sometimes flood waters can carry pollution to the sea and harm marine life. In addition, flood waters can carry disease, including hepatitis A (甲型肝炎) and cholera (霍乱).
However, not everything about floods is bad. Sometimes they bring new life to ecosystems. Flood waters carry nutrients to the nearby land. Over time, the water dries up and leaves behind particles (微粒) of dirt and mud. The particles are called sediment (沉淀物) which can be good due to its ability to improve the dirt and help plants grow. Floods are important to some animals as well. For instance, some animals see floods as a sign that it is time to mate or migrate (繁殖或迁徙). Floods leave sediment on river beds where baby fish can grow and carry nutrients for small animals in the water to eat. Moreover, in dry seasons, water might dry up, but floods help refill the wetlands. keeping the ecosystem going.
Floods are a part of nature. They can destroy living things and the environment. But some ecosystems need floods to survive.

A. The urban noise. B. Circumstance and shared dreams.
C. The untouched expanse of wilderness. D. Shadowed forests echoing with ancient secrets.

C. Isla and Finn’s exciting journey. D. Finn’s confidence and intuition.
27. What can we learn from the passage?

B. Finn failed to pull Isla back to the safety of shore.
C. The villagers wove Isla and Finn’s journey into local legend.
D. Isla and Finn’s real strength lied in conquering harsh environments.
