A
Dear Sun Meng,
In your last email, you asked me what you should do when you are under stress and have worries. One good way that many students in my country find helpful is using a worry box. Let me explain how to make and use one.
Try using a worry box
1. Make a special box
Use colourful things and pictures to make your worry box.
Here is a picture of my worry-eating monster box!
2. Write down your worries
Take some pieces of paper and write down your worries.
3. Rate (评价) your worries and store (储存) them in the box
If you like, place each worry on a scale (等级) from 1 to 10. 1 means “a little worried” and 10 means “the most worried”. For example, today I put two worries into the box. I rate “losing my new bike” as a 2 and “getting bad grades in the maths exam” as a 7.
4. Talk it out
Be sure to make some time every day or week to talk about your worries with your parents. Together, you can find the ways to deal with them.
Remember that it’s not healthy to carry worries around in your head. The worry box provides a good place to “share” your worries. By using it, you’ll learn to deal with your worries.
Yours,
Anna

Growing Through Adversity (Adapted from Teen Ink, a popular teen magazine)
The teenage years are full of challenges, like academic stress (学业压力), self-doubt and unexpected failures. Many teens feel disappointed and want to give up easily when life does not go as they hope. Yet true personal growth never comes from staying away from difficulties, but from facing them with courage.
Last year, a girl shared her experience in our magazine. She failed a key math test and lost all confidence in herself. She stopped taking part in class and refused to put in her best effort. Luckily, her warm teacher noticed her change and told her that one failure could not decide her future.
With her teacher’s encouragement, she started to take small but meaningful steps. She went over her mistakes carefully, turned to others for help after class and kept practicing math problems every day. Slowly, she learned to see mistakes as helpful signs instead of shame.
Several months later, her math grades improved a lot. More importantly, she grew stronger and more hopeful. She finally understood that setbacks (挫折) are not punishment, but necessary chances to make us better. Growth does not appear in easy days. It comes when we stand up again after falling and keep walking toward our dreams.
