Step 1. Lead-in
Introduce the project: "We've learned to analyze stories and write about books. Today, we'll create a class reading log! We'll work in groups to choose great books, write detailed entries, and share our love of reading with the class."
Step 2. Presentation
Introduce the Project Goal
Explain the project.
Analyze the sample reading log entry for Hamlet in 4b, highlighting its key sections.
Step 3. Practice
Activity 4a: Group Brainstorming
Divide students into groups of 3-4.
Have them brainstorm English books to include in the reading log, using the list from 1a or their own choices.
Encourage them to discuss: "Why is this book great? Who would enjoy it?"
Activity 4b: Write a Reading Log Entry
Guide students to use the sample log in 4b to write an entry for their favourite book.
Provide sentence frames for each section:
Step 4. Production
Activity 4c: Present and Discuss
Each group selects one entry to present to the class, explaining their book choice and key points from the log.
Step 5. Summary & Reflection
Summary: Congratulate the class on their reading log. Highlight the diversity of books and the common love of stories.
Reflecting: Guide the class through the reflection questions in the textbook.
Step 6. Homework
Basic Level: Complete your reading log entry from 4b. Write a short paragraph recommending your book to a friend.
Intermediate Level: Revise your group's reading log entry based on feedback from the class presentation. Add a new "Why this book matters today" section.
Advanced Level: Create a detailed plan to read one of the books from the class log. Write a reading schedule for the next month and predict what you will learn from it.
To activate prior knowledge, transition from individual writing to collaborative project work, and energize the class for the creative task.
