Last term, our class started a volunteer project at a community library. As a book lover, I was excited to join. Our main job was to sort (分类) returned books, help visitors find the right books, and read stories to kids on weekends.
At first, it was hard for me to remember the library’s classification (分类) rules. An old librarian, Ms Li, noticed my trouble and taught me a simple tip: “Group books by subject—storybooks with storybooks, science books with science books.” With her help, I got better soon. Every Saturday afternoon, a group of 5-year-olds would sit around me, eyes bright as I read. Once, a little girl told me, “Your story made me want to read more!” That made all my hard work worthwhile.
After three months, the library became tidier, and more kids started coming to the reading corner. I not only made new friends but also learned responsibility and communication skills. Volunteering isn’t just about helping others—it’s about growing together.
32.What was the writer’s main work at the community library?
A.Writing stories for kids. B.Receiving returned books.

D
Technology is everywhere. We see it any place we go and, in fact, almost all of us carry some piece of technology with us every time we leave the house. What I always forget, though, is just how useful and powerful technology can be when we want to help others.
There is not a single room in my house that does not have some electronic devices (设备) lying around in it. Whenever I am at home, I am almost always using at least one electronic device. If you walked into my living room on any given day, you would find that, first, I have the television on. At the same time, I usually have my laptop resting on my knee, or I will be using my mobile phone. Even when I’m not at home I am always using my phone, and at work or in cafés, I sit down and connect to the local wireless network on my laptop.
I must say that I waste a lot of time on the computer and the time I spend on it could be much better spent if I were to take up a little online volunteering.
The technology we carry about everywhere can have a great power to do good for the world and to help others and recently I discovered just how much online volunteering there is to do in the world. From using your language skills to do translations, to developing and managing projects and helping with IT work, there is so much that so many people can do to help people in their own countries and across the world. The United Nations, in fact, has a huge page with “Volunteers Recruited” on its website.
This work can support the poor and help charities who cannot pay for staff. Many organizations only require you to work an hour a week—some even less. And the support provided by online volunteers can really help make a difference to those in need.
35.From Paragraph 2, we can know that the writer .
A.uses technology a lot B.works in a café
C.is a computer engineer D.likes modern music
36.The underlined word “Recruited” in Paragraph 4 means “________”.
A.Ordered B.Wanted C.Visited D.Warned
37.In the writer’s opinion, people should spend more time ________ with technology.
A.working on computer programs B.keeping the Internet safe
C.inventing electronic products D.helping people in need
38.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.Website Design B.Internet Organizations
C.Online Volunteering D.Online Translation
【答案】35.A 36.B 37.D 38.C
35.根据第二段中的“There is not a single room in my house that does not have some electronic devices (设备) lying around in it. Whenever I am at home, I am almost always using at least one electronic device.”
36.根据第四段中的“there is so much that so many people can do to help”和 “The United Nations, in fact, has a huge page with ‘Volunteers Recruited’ on its website.”
37.根据第三段中的“the time I spend on it could be much better spent if I were to take up a little online volunteering”和第五段中的“And the support provided by online volunteers can really help make a difference to those in need.”
38.根据第四段中的“how much online volunteering there is to do in the world”和第五段中的“online volunteers can really help make a difference to those in need”可知,全文核心内容是介绍和倡导在线志愿服务。

“Excuse me, may I have a purple crayon, please?” five-year-old Leah asked a nurse. “I want to colour the butterfly.”
“Sorry, but I can’t find one,” said the nurse. “I’m afraid you’ll have to draw a grey butterfly.”
This conversation happened in a waiting room at Sunshine Hospital. The hospital provided colouring books for young patients. But there were never enough crayons. Why? Well, crayons may carry viruses and spread diseases. They can only be used once. Then they must be thrown away. The hospital had many new patients every day. It just couldn’t afford new crayons for every child.
Leah was born with a serious disease, and she made many hospital visits. “A lot of the time she’s in great pain,” her mum said. “But colouring has helped her get through it.” Leah didn’t want other young patients to feel her disappointment. “It can be boring to wait for X-rays and treatments. I want them to feel good,” she said. “There must be something for me to do.”
Leah planned to buy 500 boxes of crayons for the hospital. However, all her pocket money was only enough for about 40 boxes. Because of her illness, she couldn’t do chores for money, either.
It might sound impossible, but Leah didn’t give up. With the help of her family and friends, she held many activities to raise money. And she would always be there in her wheelchair. Word spread fast, and Leah’s story went public. So far, she has collected 2,675 boxes.
“She is a kind girl,” said one nurse. “She’s added colour to this hospital. The waiting rooms are now filled with happier kids and brighter pictures!”

54.a serious disease 55.hospital visits 56.asked for 57.colouring books 58.spread diseases 59.couldn’t afford 60.Solutions 61.held many activities /organized many activities 62.went public/became famous/… 63.helpful/clever/caring/warm-hearted/capable /…
54.第四段第一句“Leah was born with a serious disease...”
55.第四段第一句“…and she made many hospital visits.”
56.第一段“…Leah asked a nurse. ‘I want to colour the butterfly.’”,Leah向护士请求要紫色蜡笔,因此第三空应填asked for。
57.第三段“The hospital provided colouring books for young patients.”
58.第三段“Well, crayons may carry viruses and spread diseases.”,原文中“spread diseases”(传播疾病)与“carry viruses”并列,正好填入,因此第五空应填spread diseases。
59.第三段“It just couldn’t afford new crayons for every child.”,原文中的“couldn’t afford”(负担不起)直接对应空格,因此第六空应填couldn’t afford。
61.第六段“...she held many activities to raise money.”,原文中的“held many activities”(举办了许多活动)是核心动作,因此第八空应填held/organized many activities。
可以用went public/became famous/…
63.最后一段“She is a kind girl…She’s added colour to this hospital.” 虽然原文只说了“kind”,但根据她帮助别人的行为,可用helpful/clever/caring/warm-hearted/capable/…

C.Selling books to visitors. D.Sorting books and reading to kids.
33.Who helped the writer remember the classification rules?
A.A little girl. B.The writer’s classmate.
C.An old librarian. D.The library’s manager.
34.What did the writer learn from the volunteer experience?
A.Children are hard to please.
B.It’s difficult to work in a library.
C.Volunteering is only about helping others.
D.Volunteering helps both others and ourselves grow.
